  1. Should absolutely be able to convert that hyperpower cell's juice into good old beanjuice for a plentiful supply of coffee. I'd absolutely play a clerical bot if it was a walking coffee machine as well.
  2. +1 from me as well, Dr Powers and Cowart are great characters that put up with me coming in all sorts of states while maintaining character, would love to see how ya play a Skrell. Verdigris is also great to have around and pretty sure I've met Remei, Carter and Hayden! All are very friendly and good at their jobs. Give this man a whitelisting! I enjoyed the backstory for this one, though don't know all that about skrell to be honest, felt like I learned from it either way.
  3. Hitting Replay should still work if it's still up, unless of course if you last played on another server.
  4. Basically, bringing slow pain to an animal to death for your sick amusement as @keinto stated, for instance... 1. Burning the animal slowly to death 2. Slowly gassing the animal to death. 3. Stabbing slowly / Draining blood slowly 4. Performing human centipede experiment or any other pain experiments on animals. 5. To electrocute slowly. 6. To remove an animal's eye or other body parts. Now you're basically describing science but if that were anywhere other than science (or even in science without any application of the scientific method) and not carried out with a professional attitude with no explanation or reasoning then yeah, it is totally animal abuse. I'd expect a health analyzer and some of the data to be collected or extrapolated upon to at least prove it wasn't all done in the name of sadism. Hell even eye-ball overall health loss with a hud if you don't want to pester medical for an analyzer! The difference between science and fucking about is writing down some data! Data pays the bills, otherwise they're just wasting company resources.
  5. I'm sorry I just know you as the odd chemist, of which you were fine enough. Will hopefully see ya in action in cargo soon enough! Though remember Sharp is right, it's only if you were an antag would it be non-canon. To be a chemist you have to have the right character qualifications in your employment history which is "At least 28 years of age, applicable DPh from accredited school, 2 years Residency at accredited hospital or clinic.".
  6. Yep, my bad. Sorting it just now! Sorry! EDIT - So yeah, that happened. It said it was invalid and couldn't post, so I tried clicking it again a few times and turns out they all posted. Dunno what happened there. Anyway, off to a good start!
  7. BYOND key: DrHobo2k15 Character names: Joe Anders, Frank Chaplin, Jack Chaplin, Joel Chaplin, Marvin Huey, Muriel Schmidt, Jim Fresco, Bob Dodie, JOEBOT and Ka'Akaix'Ziim Zo'ra How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 4 months pretty solid as a dedicated Auroran but I've been on and off of SS13 for the past 8+ year though was finishing university and work so didn't really have the time to get into it. Yeah, I was probably banned on another account for being a greytider a long time ago. For 2 years I've played the occasional rounds on my current ckey but never really established a proper character. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to progress Dr Anders to research director and help teach people how to science. Why did you come to Aurora?: Well I was originally a Yog and TG'er, with occasional forays into Bay and Goon, but I didn't like how such a simulation was just a joke when it could be a lot more serious. This (SS13) is actually one of the finest computational science accomplishments of simulating a space station full of intelligent agent-based cellular automata and chaos, it deserves respect and gives out so much enjoyment in return. One day I decided to move my more serious Yog character over and after a bwoink, had them made into a real character. Joe has been in science ever since. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Absolutely, many many times. It's been a long time debating whether or nae I should actually fill one of these out. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is assuming the role of a character within a predefined universe and engaging in how that character would behave rationally and emotionally given any given situation they may find themselves. It's also about how these characters develop in the world and the relationships they form, be it bad or good, with other characters. It's fun and keeps the mind occupied in one of the most productive ways. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: As a head you take on responsibility of your staff's actions and behaviour, you have to keep tabs on them and make sure the Rules are being abided and most importantly they are behaving as you would working aboard an absolutely amazing spacestation in the year 2459 depending on who they choose to be. Really the head is there to assist their staff as much as they are there to assist the head and ultimately make everyone feel included in the everyday capers aboard Aurora. I do understand the IC command structure of the heads to security as well as when the Internal Affairs should get involved if someone is really be out of line, and also how the moderators and admin come in after all other IC avenues have failed. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: As a whitelisted player you should set an example of what is expected by Auroran standards, you are to know the lore and rules and abide by them and not just act like a metapowergamer and focus on just the mechanics. I strive to follow the rules and keep up to date with the lore, teaching or helping others to learn fun new things whenever I'm given even the remotest of chances. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Dr Joe Anders BSc MSc PhD PhD Character age: 74 (but shhh, he's still down with the kids and all hip and cool) Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): (ok, squashed a combination of Joe's employment history and that as best I could into 2 paragraphs, so might seem a bit messy; Joe has a very long life story most ya can find out by asking) Joe was born in Scotland, Earth, Sol, in the year 2385. He was an early savant and went to a local university at 16 (only a month from his 17th birthday) where he took on multiple degrees in Exobiology, Virology, Genetics, Organic & Biological Chemistry which were completed by the age of 23 which was followed by a masters in Systems Biology and soon a doctorate in Computational Systems & Synthetic Biology. This was followed by a postgraduate in Experimental & Translational Medicine which was completed by the age of 29. He went on to get a scholarship with the New Carnegie Institute working on novel methods of detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms and laid down a groundwork for xenogentic analysis of ribosomal structure and polymerase function. He went to an industrial placement with Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals working on neuroprotein plaque formations as a result of the cloning processes, he continued his work at Zeng-Hu on building and upgrading the cloning systems to competitive industry standards for over 14 years. During this time he had a supervisory position in a lunar pharmaceutical lab developing analogues of cryoxadone, peridaxon and some lesser known or failed drugs like Tridexiper and Tramazine. He has claimed that during this time some coworkers infected him with a form of viral progeria which caused him to deteriorate in health, though he was awarded compensation. He left the pharmaceutical industry to get back to his studies in xenobiology. Dr Anders spent a fair few years researching the emergent glomping order of xenobiotic slimes and published a study on slime ecology and origin for Nanotrassen. This work is considered an esoteric work on the practical origins of life but is contemporary reading for any unfortunate but serious xenobiologists. He never acquired any fame or fortune from his work and took to his own lab back on Earth, funded by his compensation, where he developed hundreds of patents and papers, the vast majority were never brought further than development but few were sold to Nanotrassen and Zeng-Hu. Dr Anders was offered a permanent placement with Nanotrassen to continue his work which of course was accepted, anything to get him out of Sol and off seeing the universe! The rest, I'm sure you know. What do you like about this character?: Joe has a fair history aboard the station and has come to know more than a few other characters, I've got Joe's routine down to muscle memory but still every shift is different. He's old and disabled, not the fastest of folks but he doesn't care, though he's still shat his kilt and ran on a fair few odd occasions. He's incredibly intelligent (and horrendously over qualified) but still smokes like a chimney and enjoys a good pint of beer and glass (or pint) of whisky. Very much a friendly dude who's ready to help anyone despite how busy he is with his crazy workload. I've come to love Dr Joe, the auld science bastard. What do you dislike about this character?: Well he's no linguist (Scottish accent in Tau Ceti cause ALBA GU BRATH!!) and can often confuse people as much as a Vaurca. To restrict his skills, Joe loses out on telescience, xenoarcheology, complex devices (all this new IE wonders, have to throw that under the bus for balance) and surgery on the living (funny story...), he's no engineer either. He's not a combat character or a weapons expert. Also he's too trusting despite thinking he wasn't born yesterday. He's got 2 incident reports for "Neglect of Duty" and "Infiltration" that are actually ridiculous to have been made IRs but even they are quite funny stories. Actually these dislikes aren't all that bad, I've come to like his flaws and failures. I dislike how he can be disabled by an EMP with all his prosthetics but what can ya do. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Joe acts like a RD when there isn't one (or even when there is but they're busy) and has rallied the science department when they need to rally, he's like a glue that can keep the department together and working with the station as a whole. Though he's not exactly a bureaucrat he knows the paperwork (using it rarely to be a bastard), he knows the ins and outs of every science division and has fought and died (and got cloned to fight and died again) countless times to keep it together more like a dysfunctional family/team. He's taught and lectured many assistants how to run the research lab and engage in scientific pursuits (making grenades or machines) and will continue teaching many more regardless. Now don't get me wrong, Joe is not planning to be RD all the time, this is for the rare to occasional times where there isn't one already, it's far too much responsibility all the time and he's still gotta have a chief (Latham, Cortez, Winters, Neba...eh.. you know the female human with the white hair that stands by the window and lets us smoke. Y'all the chiefs <3). As RD I'd be able to co-ordinate some really cool projects across the divisions when folks get bored with that access and actual authority (and an office) I could even interview folks and get to know other characters better, and would also get Lamar out more often to represent Science like the mascot he really is. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I'd refer to my Vaurca application for a good answer but I'd rate it Straight and not Zap on the Paranoia scale of roleplay, and 3/5 Gary Gygaxes. If my laptop wasn't a slow piece of shit then maybe I'd be better at emoting and the like. Extra notes: Also I have no interest in ever being Captain, HoS or chief engineer, though I would down the line develop Frank Chaplin into a CMO but even that would be months from now because he's a barely developed character (though I am actually fully versed in all the medical game mechanics) that is filled in to be Jack & Joel's father. It's 3am, why am I doing this now. Be gentle. <3
  8. I'm a bit confused, I've seen Cohen go about a few times but they were a chemist and another time was working in security? I might be thinking of someone else but pretty sure you were a chemist?
  9. Ermagerd! Thanks folks! Didn't expect a response this fast! Literally just went to the kitchen for a beer and came back. Yeah you've nailed it Conspiir, start as a gardener begging for mutagen and slowly working up to the science department as a lab assistant to beg for avowal for xenobotany! Over many rounds much like how I developed Jack as a sec cadet, which was a great campaign to fully fledged officer and sometimes friendly warden. Yeah I wasn't entirely too sure about how they picked up language or whether it would have just been downloaded early in life from the Hive's internet but Ziim was never intended to really meet other species other than plants. Thanks MFalco, I really got into the backstory there, started with just the concept of some bug out in the middle of nowhere following a trail of k'ois bar crumbs into the back of a shuttle then just went from there. Also the name absolutely came from Invader Zim!
  10. BYOND Key: DrHobo2k15 Character Names: Joe Anders, Frank Chaplin, Joel Chaplin, Jack Chaplin, Marvin Huey, Muriel Schmidt, Jim Fresco, Bob Dodie, JOEBOT Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 131 0 0 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: A few times now but keep finding myself going back over it and referring to it. There's a lot to take in but I love it. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always loved insects and amateur entomology, and from playing on Aurora have just found them adorable (yes, I find them more adorable than the kitty-faced Taj'ers). Their lore is strange and alien but I love it, when I used to play WH40K (a long, long time ago) I collected and played 'Nids so love all the Alien Hiveminds and Broodmother concepts. Also there totally needs to be more bugs in general if the company is really using them as slave labourers. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Vaurca are especially plagued by prejudice not from just being generally considered detestable creatures by most but in their low social standing to menial work with meager income. They are dependent on phoron and k'ois, without which they suffocate and die, but also due to the inorganic organs needed to phoronate the air, they are a challenge to clone by all but experienced medical staff. On top of all this, they must abide an insectoid speech impediment and a general lack of total comprehension of human ways. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Ziim Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Ka'Akaix'Ziim Zo'ra of Ta'Akaix'Zoleth'akeh Zo'ra was initially an agrotech developer trained in xenobotany and molecular biology; working on new strains of nutritional k'ois, medicinal fungi and even potential bioweapons. An avid bioengineer that was free to travel and collect new specimens to benefit their hive when initially picked up by a human shuttle. Naively lured by processed k'ois bars into the cargo hold, they were sold by the humans to some slavers to work as a miner but eventually found an escape opportunity aboard a cargo ship. This was a long and isolating period of Ziim's life, as they hid and stole from the phoron cargos and cultivated fungal samples in pipes and vents of the decrepit vessel to survive before eventually leaving the ship to follow the familiar sounds of the Zo'ran hivemind. They found themselves aboard a bustling market station, unable to speak Basic but had made contact with their own kind. Though their kind was refugees and slaves, he was happy and welcomed with their company and taken in by them. They taught Ziim what Basic they knew and the ways of the Humans, in exchange he taught them the frugal techniques he'd developed to survive alone in secret. This didn't last long before they were eventually found and arrested as an illegal and was shipped as a refugee to a processing facility far from their new friends. Ziim had long since developed a mistrust of the Humans and the machines they used but had become stoic to the difficulties of survival alone in the alien worlds, their docility was recognized as well as their calming effect on others of their kind was noticed and they soon found themselves indentured by a Nanotrassen representative at the facility. From there, they find themselves aboard Aurora still with their Prime Directive of developing useful xenoflora specimens to benefit their kind and to one day return to their hive with their discoveries and many stories of life out there. What do you like about this character? Well I like how they're stoic and determined but totally immersed in the alien worlds they'd never have imagined but still remain hopeful that they'll return home without any idea of how far they've ended up travelling from it. They value their kind and company as they know what it's like to be totally isolated for a few years. They may even have the equilivant of Vaurcan PTSD, who knows! I'd be quite excited to see how they develop. How would you rate your role-playing ability? After over 15 years of playing and running everything from AD&D, 3E, 3.5, Pathfinder, Paranoia, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, World of Darkness, Traveller, Babylon 5 (the RPG), Red Dwarf (also the RPG), Dark Heresy, WFRP, Neverwinter Nights and many, many other weird and wonderful others like Og where ya have to work with an incredibly limited vocabulary; I'd like to say experienced and also most probably addicted to all the simulated immersions of developing characters in all manner of settings. Notes: I've added 20 to R for colour to reflect on them being slightly lighter after hiding out on the cargo ship, though could change that back. I couldn't tell the difference between 111 and 121, I'm not exactly making it pink but was hoping for a bit of discoloration to reflect the squalor conditions before Aurora. As for speech I'm aiming for the vh and double z's, will need a bit of practice but should have it hammered out in a couple shifts.
  11. Aye it's hard when ya come in late and all the acetone has been used or stolen by some shitty SSD chemists before that ended up making JUST a shitload dexalin plus or spilling it all over the floor and setting themselves on fire or whatever they've gone done with it other than make actual meds. In matlab as well, it can be quickly used up. If someone uses over 1k acetone and more is needed then they most probably shouldn't be a chemist, but still cargo needs all the chemical cartridges including things like carpotoxin!
  12. Yeah there's no chemical cartridges so once all the acetone's gone, chemistry's pretty fucked.
  13. Giving xenoarch more airlock access means giving scientists in general more airlock access, so that may be a problem. Maybe harass the HoP for more access? I main a scientist pretty much and I'd be all for more access generally but there's a lot of barely qualified folks that end up in science that would exploit the extra access and probably ruin it for everyone else. A guaranteed artifact is a good idea, I've seen many round where xenoarcheologists are out for an hour and longer without finding jack shit. It's not even like they can gather ores without a smelter (mini-smelter for xenarch would be absolutely awesome for the vast majority of the time when mining/cargo never pull through, but that may be a separate suggestion). Other than that, I don't think I've ever actually explored the construction level other than for one mad drug party but even that was just a corner. Though I can imagine the faffing about setting up a temporary airlock just to get an artifact in.
  14. DrHobo

    Dalek Gamemode

Ok so I'm all for dismissing this and re-submitting as a random dalek mech artifact for xenoarch and or a separate Dr Who roundtype
  15. I'm all for this as I'd usually have to mute the whole game which has obvious disadvantages cause my girlfriend would actually murder me if I left it on even though I do love Randy Newman's 'You got a friend in me' on the violin as well as some other tunes. She barely tolerates the sound of doors as is. The violin (and instruments in general) gives her visions of smashing this laptop so +1.
  16. I'm all for this even though they have stingers and could fuck someone up, however I've still had my ass kicked by a goat but they could be made a bit docile or only docile to vaurca. They are cool creatures and would be a lot of fun to study in science or as a source of vaurca organs (if evolved in a DIY genetics lab). +1 from me!
  17. I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing that Joe was like the only non-pussy douche, other than ARCH ofc, in this story. 10/10 *****
  18. Today I learned the difference between Ka and Za as well as a bit about vaurca physiology. Good guide!
  19. Wow, that was a better story than anything written by Uwe Boll. I would literally watch that if it was a live action sci-fi Rampage 4, even how it was written up had me doing the Jack Bauer 24 boop boop noises inbetween the time lapses or maybe I'm just "listening to too much Steve Miller", either way cool story. I'm happy to be part of it. I already said I rushed so that's all cool, was just angry (cause research was deleted) and tryin to protect my nerd homies from who I thought was the rev head. Anders would normally never attack first especially being an old ass man but deleting research makes scientists do funny things. Darion shoulda gave ya a shout about all us in Science if anything and we coulda all easily taken the station but sounds like a happily ever after with Sam which is a much better ending. (PRE?)EDIT - Just noticed there's a second page. I'm in agreement with Schev, very well said. Logs look legit and agree with Turtles analysis, don't call for security if there's a heavily armed potential psychopath within earshot; screaming for help gonna get a bitch slapped, I had already been held up at gun point that round by 2 others which was well done and they woulda gunned me down at the start if I'd shouted while they were still there - that was another good encounter of the round. If someone shouted Victory or Valhalla then it's probably either you or them that's ever breathing again cause that a crazy fucker. That clown mask did inspire the fear of hell in both Anders and the Shaft Miner when we first saw ya in Robotics but that's because of general SS13 PTSD not Aurora lore as far as I'm aware, honestly I do like seeing the very occasional killer clown in outer spess. Don't get me wrong, if it was a total murderbone or otherwise against the rules then I'd have ahelped and have on the couple rare occasions which was generally migrating goons but I tried to go head on with an energy pistol with like 3 shots or less left and ended up an hero, was no surprise to me how it went down. There was a bit of the finest dialogue ever at the end which was like a fucked up Star Wars ending; I called him a bastard and told him he killed Jack then he told me he was a loyalist and that I was on his team so when I died I was totally OMGWATDAFAQLOLOOPSGG. I actually thought I was gonna get pulled up for shooting a fellow loyalist which I had no idea about til the end, what a twist.
  20. Haha wunderbar but I can't take all the credit, we were a solid team and I was for throwing him in a phoronic death chamber but since we were in telescience, might as well space the poor bastard. The moral of that story is never ever ever delete research or an angry nerdmob will hunt you down and shit all over your day. We will rapidly get research back up but will be uber-pissed about it. Now before this comes up to bite me in the ass, I did engage the clownfaced killer in combat with full belief that they were the rev leader and not a fellow loyalist. This is the 2nd time I've shot at someone in my own "team" but they didn't have a loyalist icon and ICly I had no communication with or from them before hand other than seeing them with another known rev in robotics where both Zeke and Jack were found murdered. This may be a bug but it's led to some interesting rounds of questioning everything. I don't think everyone on my team was actually a loyalist but in HRP it is more than Red Team/Blue Team or Us vs Them, there is a grey area and you may find yourself in some moral dilemmas (like the 1st time where Cherry was trying to execute then kidnap a restrained woman Olivia while in Custody, Chaplin ain't gonna stand for that regardless but there was no icon showing they were a rev let alone a head rev). While we may have mobbed together regardless of formally being loyalist, it's good that we worked together as it can also lead to the most beautiful backstabbing, betrayal and bromancing as non-converts see us get martyr'd helping them. The loyalists at the round end were few but we were many. I shot "The Captain" with an energy pistol we'd found in the science lobby twice before going in to rescue Zeke and Jack who were both dead. Alice Archer was with Anders in Robotics Surgery when The Captain said they should leave and Anders should stay, they then threw in a pepperspray grenade and I fled blinded before they beat me to death with an extinguisher and dragged me to outside the kitchen. Now I'm ok with that (maybe not so much the chemist and janitor that just searched my body and left me there, though from what I hear the chemist was a douche anyway) but at no point was I aware they were a loyalist, from what I'd seen they were the head of the revs that had attacked science and the very face of death itself. Anders, an old ass man wasn't gonna let the poor science kids get murdered on his watch. I have no idea what happened in medical, I barely left science, but it sounds brutal as fuck. Though I don't think an Unathi would go on a killing spree as a loyalist wearing a clown mask, from what I know of the Unathi they are quite a serious and honor-bound folk much like klingon reptiles. I wouldn't think an Unathi would belittle themselves with a clown mask of all things, if it was a tactical mask then sure it's an unathi with bloodfever but a clown mask is the mask of a fool, far from honorable. As for the loyalists of the round, we were primarily protecting science from corrupt security (though Noir was cool as always). Overall a great round; much roleplay, much paranoia, much fun. My only problem (which it isn't really) is an Unathi being clownfaced but I am no expert on the intricacies of their customs other than literally "What Would Worf Do", and also having a loyalist potentially murder members of the hardworking and loyal science team (great team, love y'all) which has yet to be verified. I, like Han, shot first but I hope I've explained why. Oh and for the record I never ahelped when I died, just took my death like a pro as a chance to grab another beer and finally go to the much needed toilet.
  21. I'm conflicted as an actual organic chemist and an avid chemist in-game aboot this, as I have become aboot fleshing out the chemistry system with emote flavour. See traditional synthesis methods like reflux, distillation, separation, sublimation and the like of what we know to be the pyrex equipment of Hollywood and 2nd year uni chem courses is actually grossly outdated anyway. Automated chemistry is pretty much or just becoming the industry standard with the likes of Beckman Coulter Liquid Handlers or the Chinese equivalents: http://www.aurorabiomed.com/automated-liquid-handling/?gclid=CLmZ6YjW4tYCFdRAGwodCvwA5Q http://liquidhandlersbybeckman.com/?pi_ad_id=83259466462 https://www.beckman.com/liquid-handlers So the current ChemDispenser is just an automated liquid handler rather than a traditional chemistry lab. These are used at the moment by the likes of Sigma-Aldrich, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline, to name only a few chemical giants. They allow rapid drug development, prototyping and testing. Same goes for the ChemMaster, this automated chemistry paradigm is good now and should be better in 2459 after automation has been generally mastered. However, chemical kinetics usually does need heat and or a catalyst, and reactions may still take hours. I imagine the ChemDispenser actually uses lasers and or microwaves for the quick reactions, slowing it down will mean that random cargo techs, assistants, botanists and other non-chemists that have managed to sneak their way to a chemdispenser will still probably not get caught, unless they ain't up to date with the change, because they'll leave it to finish reacting on the run unless the beaker is locked in and reaction stops outside the dispenser if quickly ejected, which will be a pain to actual chemists who mix outside the chemdispenser. Ultimately the slowing reaction reaction by halving thus curving the reaction time is alright and will just need a bit of patiences (IRL it takes hours anyway, 3 seconds is like an hour a second if not better and reflects how efficient the dispenser is). If it means ChemHeaters to cook up some Chlorine Trifluoride down the line then great but I'd rather see a ChemiCompiler and ChemFuck ported and actually put some fun complexity into chemistry! tl;dr I'm for the curving reaction rates that I know and love IRL, but still sad there's no chemfuck. As for the round-off, that's why in chemistry we never have anything 100% pure. This will open up to better uses of catalysts down the line for faster reactions.
  22. I already thought Officer Halloway was a HoS, surprised he's nae already. Great dude. +1
  23. "If I can't smoke then what can I do?" - Albert Einstein, a non-teenager from an older time period who actually knew the dangers of smoking and was warned constantly but still chose to smoke and was never pressured by his "peers". It wasn't even from stress that he and many smoked. Trying to reduce the will to smoke to such schoolhouse psychology is just naive at best. It's an over-a-billion dollar industry with decades of investments in biotech, GMOs and health science. Smoking isn't gonna just disappear even 400 years from now just because it's "unfashionable", that's kinda like saying it's for tribals because ancient American Indians smoked and nobody goes about with feathers in their hair and loin clothes. I think smoking isn't some sort of clothing accessory but an abused vector to the bloodstream via lung physiology. It's aesthetics, tastes and smells will change sure but recreational smoking will never stop unless there was some neofascist health laws to totally ban it and seize all the tobacco industries land and assets, which is highly unlikely in a corporate future. With pollution and increasing CO2 levels as well, we're gonna adapt and be more robust to diverse atmospheric parameters, different aliens breathe different atmospheres. We are hardier creatures than you'd think, a pack of cigarettes won't kill ya anymore than greasy cheeseburgers but years of hundreds or thousands of packs will.
  24. Fun fact, in 2005 an oxidative resistant version of alpha-1-antitrypsin was found which would stop proteases from breaking down lung tissue (S.B.Primrose, Principles of Gene Manipulation & Genomics). So a gene therapy that would stop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema isn't far off (from being publically available, cough cough). Cuba has lung cancer vaccines under way and with the likes a vaping (#vapelife) there's no need for it to be that dangerous. We're adapting to overcome the harm cause the tobacco industry invests in biotechnology and genetic engineering, they have plenty of medical doctors and deep pockets. Lungs are just like air stomachs for gases anyway, smoking ain't that bad. Here there's ryetalyn for genetic damage and I'm assuming cancer as well and the likes of dylovene for toxin damage with a COPD vaccine, it'll have been a few hundred years since smoking became safe. On the subject of fancy smoking, I'd say we need those red packets of Robust cigarettes instead of those beige Dromedairy packs. Would be great if there was something to inject a cigarette before lighting to make a proper smoke cloud.
  25. Yeah I call my HoD chief regardless and the captain heid chief or chief gadgie. I use boss or their last name or any title like director, professor, doctor. I totally think a security commander in a corporation doesn't sound very PC for a corporation. As Schev said it ain't a military but it also isn't really a police force unless there's been a full blown cryptofascist Corporate Sovereignty Act been enacted otherwise they're just office security guards, space mall cops, station bouncers, all with like delusions of militaristic grandeur and have somehow missed out on sensitivity training day while they did the 4 week course. Again I agree with Schev that it sounds ridiculous calling HoS a commander instead of just boss, that's an extra 5 letters that ya gotta type and makes ya sound either sarcastic or a bit intense. Loh's solution is hilarous, kudos! Though I'm sure a little text to src would work as well, less work for the janitors as well. Nod ya sound like a troll and overall rude af, I'm nae even gonna do a point by point bullshit analysis and quote all your posts instead of putting it in a spoiler so ya gotta scroll a lot. Schev is right, use boss for that cool Metal Gear Solid soft-reference. Praise Schev, our forum commander.
