1. You all know it, the Vault is the most unsafe "Vault" in all of history. The fact that anyone with EVA gear, basic tools and enough time and/or determination can loot the safe/freezer in the Vault without triggering the motion alarm, the turret defenses or anything really is a meme. The Vault is supposed to be a safe place for some of the most valuable items on the station but it is quite the opposite. How can it be improved? - Make it more difficult to access from EVA: The back wall is adjacent to open space. The open space could be removed to make it nessecary to make your way through solid rock before you reach said wall. - Move everything away from the walls: Moving the items to the middle of the room and placing defenses around them makes much more sense. Like a glass cabinet in the middle, turrets and motions sensors around it. - Remodel the Vault entirely: I am no mapper, but I am sure the layout of the Vault itself can be vastly improved. Review it, make out the flaws and remap it accordingly. What is your opinion on the matter?
2. Hey bois and gals, time for another suggestion, just as the title says. It's something minor (gameplay wise) but adds immersion. No idea how hard it is to implement, I imagine that it can't be toooooooo hard. Optimal would be a opt-in/opt-out option for players that don't want to hear someone breathing in their ear while wiring solars. Again, nothing major but could be a neat little detail, the players I talked about it some time ago agreed that it could be nice to have. Tell me what you think.
3. Alright, first of all I want to thank you for the time you invested in this and taking this complaint serious, in contrast to some others, which I really appreciate, but I think we can wrap this up. I didn't want to make it sound like you wanted me to justify myself, I am sorry if you understood it that way, but the quote I used in that paragraph was from kyres1, not you. I believe that continuing this discussion will lead nowhere, since I am apparently not able to make my point clear and miscommunication seems getting worse. To your offer of taking an IPC whitelist from me, I again appreciate the gesture, but as I already stated I do not intend to reapply for IPC and will refrain from applying for anything else. I have no interest in investing any more time and effort into this matter anymore. If someone clearly states that I am not allowed to quote them on what they said, especially with the reason "I do not want to be involved in that." - then I shouldn't do it and neither should anyone else. I don't know if anyone involved really cares much, but as some closing words I want to say that I don't intend to hold any lasting grudge against Cake or the lore team or anyone, really. I would be lying if I'd say this whole affair didnt upset me in a great way, but this does not mean I will be upset forever, yet I have drawn conclusions from the answers that both were and were not given to the statements I made.
4. Hello, I'll try again to keep it short as short as possible, once again only going over the parts that are most important to me: I think it is time that I talk a bit about how I felt about how the fact, that I posted a staff complaint on the complaint board, was recieved by some, because in my opinion some interesting things happened. Contrary to what this complaint might look like I do not enjoy posting complaints about someone else and I was hesitant to post it at all, so I gathered some feedback and talked to some Aurora players before doing so. Sadly I was not allowed to directly quote the person I am referring to in the following, so if you think I am being dishonest here, because I, in this case, can not back it up, then ignore my claim that it felt a lot like that person tried to discourage me from filing a staff complaint, because apparently filing a staff complaint is a waste of time and if I have any problem I should discuss them behind closed doors. But not only that, even here in this thread, after posting my initial post one of the very first things I got greeted with is the following: It really is beyond me why I have to justify myself for using my right to file a complaint, if I feel mistreated. If the consensus is that staff complaints are worthless and a waste of time, then why does the complaints board exist in the first place? I won't get into more detail about how various (staff)members of the community talked about this complaint, because I agree that your responsibility is only the lore team - yet this all added up paints a very poor picture. I am not someone who gets offended by getting memed about, I think most people I interact more with can confirm this, but sometimes there is a time to stop, especially if someone has a genuine problem with someone else. This is very interesting, because I faced critique about this, as seen here: This again is a prime example how apprently many of my statements were interpreted in a negative way, without any reason at all. I got told that, quote: "I [wasn't] giving you any more of a hard time than I usually give anyone else.". I won't get into more detail again, but I think over the course of this I have proven this statement to be wrong. Being called or "misinterpreted" as being impatient, because I inquired about my whitelist that took over three times longer than a whitelist apparently should take, is not appropiate. I still do not understand what I have done in the over two years of playing on Aurorastation, so that a simple, non-aggressive reply in the forums from me gets outright interpreted in a negative way. I honestly want to get this explained to me, since I want to improve in this matter. I did not have much interaction with members of staff in the past, but when I had I was always polite and respectful, when it came to, let's call it "official" matters. The sentence is something that bugs me and I want to explain to why this, in the context of this complaint, is completely worthless to me. The next section might get a bit heated: To start this I'll state that I won't apply again. Not for IPC nor any other whitelist. Give me one reason why I should, after being treated like how I was. I won't repeat everything again, but how I was treated was not okay and if you want to chalk it up as a misunderstanding, then I have to accept that. But repeating the fact that "[ I ] am free to apply again at any time you wanted." is, again, worth nothing. Sure, I could, but I do not see any reason why I should, especially after filing a complaint against the loredev in question. Cake might be stating that there won't be "any prejudice or begrudging of the previous failed attempt." but after dissecting all of our short converstation I have all reason to believe that this will not be the case. He wasn't able to neutrally interact with me before we had a problem with each other, I do not think he will be able to now, which is not supposed to be critique, but nothing else than the human nature. Also, I say again, for I think the fourth time now, that this complaint was not about the denial of the app per se, and this will be the last time I point that out. So to sum it up: If this is the way I get treated, after interacting with staff for the first time in a way that is beyond writing two sentences on Discord, after over two years of playing on Aurorastation, where I never had any major problems with anyone OOC, yet I am the one who gets accused of attitude problems, then, in my opinion, something is seriously wrong.
5. Just to update this: BRAINOS is currently pretty busy, so the sprites will be delayed.
6. I'll go through this in chronological order, as quickly as I can, so I will only pick the passages that are most important to me: First of all, I agree that I may have gotten carried away, when writing the essay, there are some parts in it (keyword: Total job numbers graph) where I, to phrase it in the words of another community member, activated turbo-autism mode, that could've been shorter. This whole thing shows that this may not be the best course of action, since this all could have been avoided by not finalizing and locking a thread, especially when you yourself admit that there could have been multiple communication issues. It looked to me, like you wanted to just wrap it up as quickly as possible. I for myself felt deprived of the possibility to clear things up and I, clearly, refused to accept that. I only can work with what I was given. Why I came to this conclusion was explained by me in thourough detail, for example in figure ten, but I will get to that in a bit. I made conclusions made from the replies you gave me. I am sorry, but if you feel like you are missing out something, then I ask you again: Why do you not communicate this, instead of posting the reply you did and locking up the thread afterwards? This is no excuse to me, if I write an application I expect it to be read properly, even if it may not be the best application that has ever been posted. Which I did, to the best of my abilities, until I didn't understand their relevancy anymore and inquired about them. This lead to the denial of the application. If you wanted to know more, then why not ask more specific questions, instead of basically just "Tell me more". This felt like the equivalent of asking someone "How do you like the weather?", and I already explained the information I had laid out for the character in the application. Twice. It might've been not a whole load of information, I totally agree, but I asked it in the essay and I do it again: Why do I have to set the character in stone? Just for an application? I can just make another one the, for example, next day after I recieved the application. It makes no sense to insist on a 100% fleshed out character for an application, since you are not even obliged to play that character, after you get your whitelist. Why isnt there a greater emphasis on how a player behaved and played in the past, instead of piecing together some mundane background with the wiki open on the second monitor? Stop denying facts. You literally asked me, quote: "Tell me more about INGRAM's interactions with people and how they would be played...". Just so that we are on the same page, here is a definition of roleplay, source can be provided if wanted: "Roleplay | Role-play: The changing of one's behaviour to fulfill a [social] role". I will not go any further into this topic again, since this was also covered in the essay to a great extend. Here you justify it again with the follwing, quote: "...a bit of history as to what happened to IPC players in the past,...", which again leads me to the question I already asked: Why is it not (more) considered how someone played in the past to determine someone's ability to play an alien race? I guess that is why you can comment on whitelist applications, which would be totally fine, if it wouldn't require posting and reposting the link of your application at the end of each round, which I didn't, because I personally find it awfully annoying. Also, as far as I know it is not a requiremnt to do that, yet it seems to have quite some importance. Unclear instructions. I agree. I could've been much more clearer why I did not outright provide more information. This was clearly a fault from my side. I am not able to see the causality between this and not outright answering any question you asked. How do you go from the first part of not outright answering the questions to not wanting the whitelist. I would've understood it, if I wouldn't have answered at all, but here I can't see the connection. From the day of posting the original application to you asking your questions and subsequently denying the application was a time span of twelve days. During this time I was patient, waiting for any information, regarding my whitelist. Again, accusing me of not wanting the whitelist is nothing more than a baseless statement. If I wouldn't have wanted it, I wouldn't have wrote the application, like the years before. There is not much more to say to this, except that this statement is just plainly wrong. You directly quoted me on something I never said and to prove it you highlighted a sentence, putting it out of context, and even began this part with, quote: "I will humor you nontheless: ...". If you feel like you have to "humor me", so, in other words going along with something that seems stupid or pointless, yet being unable to properly put a statement I made into context, then for me, this is nothing less than a mockery. I stand by my statement that answers that go ad hominem, maybe almost even ad personam, in a situation, where you act in the role of a staff member is an insolence to a normally asked, neutral question. Here is an excerpt from the wiki: "A Xenoarcheologist looks for artifacts. Artifacts are those things most people think are useless, like fossils, alien spoons, bowls, those kinds of things." - Guide to Xenoarcheology. My emphasis is on the second sentence, which I used to explain why an old Baseline Frame was being repurposed for Xenoarcheology on a station that is a mining and research station, instead of a new one being built or bought for a ton of credits. You completelely missed the point in my argumentation (since you also willingly or unwillingly ignored the context) and boiled it down to: "No one plays Xenoarcheology, that's not enough.", which is just not doing it justice. Bad phrasing from me. I did not intend to say that you are playing dumb. Apologies. Strange, this reads completely different in your closing reply to the application, quote: "I am giving you requirements to meet, and you have only opinionated them.".
7. With no word I have said that you or Cake called it that. I just didn't want to quote the person who did it without asking.
8. I have never interacted with Cake before, I do not know what, who and if he even plays, so I do not know why I should have had any reason to be hostile towards him to any degree or why that would be anyone's first assumption. I have never talked to him in private, I don't know anything about him. I could also ask why I haven't been contacted, if there was so much uncertainty about a statement I made? Fact is he interpreted my reply negative, made assumptions and blamed me, amongst other things, to be opinionated. I can also only repeat myself again: If asking questions back, to clear things up, especially on your first ever application, is considered "attitude manners", then....I do not know what to say about that. e: Calling this complaint a "[...]big brain autist tier staff complaint" on the general discord because I provided numbers to the points I made, instead of just shittalking someone, does not make this any better.
9. I can repeat myself over and over again, it is not about the fact that the app got denied, nor about when or how I reapply - which I won't. It is about the fact how I got treated, which I explained in thourough detail in the attached document. I am not obliged to privately contact someone over something that got openly discussed on a public forum. I feel mistreated and voiced my concern. This is the point of making a complaint.
10. Should work properly now. e: This time it should really work now.
11. BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Staff BYOND Key: No idea, it's about CakeIsOssim, Cake#4864 on Discord Game ID: - Reason for complaint: I was treated disrespectfully on my whitelist application. Evidence/logs/etc: I compiled and dissected the entire "conversation" between me and this member of staff in this document: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YH8YC0CSoXFym-p7WRZgi8u7nCowXbLS/view?ths=true Additional remarks: I cannot stress this enough but this complaint is not about the denial of the whitelist application per se, but about the way it got handled. Everything that got blacked out in the provided segments in the documents are merely unrelated pieces of sentences before or after the one in question. This can be seen in the fully shown comments in the supplement. e: Link should be fixed now.
12. If you think this would apply to me, then no essay about this character's motivations would prove you otherwise. This statement seems a bit disconnected from the rest of your post. It reads like you are more on about critiquing my roleplay, which is fine, if that's what you are worried about. All I can say is that my most played character is often under high pressure and I never broke role, but oh well. e: Also please point out the passage where the impression emerged, that this character is only working in Xenoarcheology, just because "no one ever plays that job".
13. Geeves is nothing more but a powerhungry african prince who will transfer me the money from my long lost uncle after I pay him a small processing fee, he truly is the best being on this world + 0,77 from me, spend it wisely
14. Artifacts, alien devices and whatnot often need to be handled with care, I think it's not too farfetched to say an office robot was outfited to, say, carry files (or even coffee, if you want) which also share the propriety of needing to be carefully handled and, in the case of files, not to be disorganized. The trait to handle things with care and keep everything in order was never lost over the years. Why did NT intend to use him instead of a specifically built unit for the task of excavating artifacts? Let's be realistic: Xenoarcheology is a niche sub-department within research that doesnt get much attention. Or any, sometimes. So, budget is tight, INGRAM on the one hand has handled sensitive objects before (even if it was in a whole different context) but on the other hand he also experienced hard manual labor in dangerous enviroment (we all agree that being EVA is dangerous, even for an IPC, right?). So when NT got it's hands on him and his file landed on the right desk at the right time his past got him into Xenoarcheology. Maybe some budget cuts also did their thing. No mismatched parts. This was more of a flavour thing, really. Maybe I'll make him rusty or the like, maybe I'll apply for a custom sprite, who knows. It's at least something for a rich flavour text. It didn't harm his frame in any way, it was just to emphazise that he is old, he has seen some shit but he is hanging in there. All for the possibility of freedom in the end.
15. Absolutely, but no idea if there would be any use for the formal uniform for regular play (other formal uniforms aren't that commonly used either). But maybe keep it in the game files to make it useable for events or something like that. Like the helmet, that didnt made into the general loadout.
16. BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Character name: Sei Armas Item name: Sei's Formal IAC Uniform Why is your character carrying said item to work? When I created Sei I wanted to use an aspect of existing lore as much as I could and I think I achieved that with her. She incorporates the IAC, it's her established and well known background. I utilize the lore and I think most people would agree I do in a good and meaningful way. I went as far as trying to get the IAC's uniforms into the game and with the help of BRAINOS I achieved this. I don't intend to wear the formal uniform on regular duty, but more on off-duty shifts and special occasions. It doesnt give me any special protection, it doesnt give me any special rights but it gives me opportunities to RP. Item description: Formal version of the IAC's uniform, worn by employees or representatives for special events. Or to show off. This one has the name 'S. Armas' stitched on its chest. Item appearance: WillBeUpdatedSoon.jpg but wait, there's more! BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Character name: Sei Armas Item name: IAC Bronze Cross of Honor Why is your character carrying said item to work? It's basically the same as with the uniform. The events that lead to Sei recieving the medal are briefly described within her security records since day one (like anyone ever reads them anyway) and it's been a story she often told. I also utilize this story to justify some character traits she has. This is, again not for everyday use and just gives the character more depth and ability to RP. Gives me also no advantages, privilegs yada yada yada. Just RP. Item description: A small, relatively simple bronze cross. "Peace and Happiness for all Sentients.", the IAC's basic principle is engraved around it's diamond logo on the front. Beneath it is the number "2459". Item appearance: WillBeUpdatedSoonToo.jpg Sprites for both will be provided by BRAINOS, as soon as they are ready. All credits to him, once again. (Ily bby.)
17. Oh god, pls no, everything but this. +1 Your roleplay is rocksolid, I don't think anyone will disagree with that. You also play a wide variety of departments so I have no worries about your intra- and interdepartment knowledge. But I am worried about one thing and I hope you can disprove my worries about that: My interactions with you have been good and I enjoy them, so don't get this bit of criticism on the wrong side: You are (sometimes) more often than not a very aggressive player. I know you are applying for HoS, so conflict and combat both is, I would call it the essence of security. But still, as HoS you are a member of command staff and the purpose of command is to oversee, guide and coordinate. I have no difficulties imagining you diving heads on into combat as HoS, even with a full security manifest. I am saying this because it's not only one character you play that has the tendency to be easily excitable. Again, this is no criticism to your ability to roleplay per se, I am just asking myself if you can consistently handle the different playstyle and main emphasis a command position brings. If so, then I would give you a non-meme +1.
18. BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Character Names: Sei Armas: Paramedic Julienne Turner: Bartender SPRITE: pAI The rest is amazingly irrelevant. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Absolutely Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Tajara are fast cats, Diona are slow trees, Unathi are robust lizard people and Skrell are just weird. None of them appeal to me. A non-biological species, though sounds the most interesting to me. Not being able to understand what's so bad about losing your arm (or maybe not caring too much), because you can just replace it, not fully understanding what's so bad about a crewmember dying, since your own positronic brain can just be put into another shell (Dramatic phrasing). Even if this doesnt mean you can go full rampage, since you still have a sense of self-preservation, it opens up a lot of options. IPCs can utilize so many playstyles, its amazing. Also, IPCs, especially the Shells are deep in the uncanny valley, I just love it. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: It starts at the way you talk. You can either be more human-like, without being able to 100% copy a human, or just go full robot and talk in half-sentences, clipped, cold and, well, robotic, obviously. Since you dont need air to breathe, "only" to be cooled, depressurized areas aren't as dangerous. You dont have organs that can just pop or stop working. Since you dont feel pain or are overly emotional, IPCs are, to some degree, calculable in their behaviour, which makes it interesting to play or be played around. IPCs are machines, calculating, analysing and acting according to their programming, which I imagine to be very interesting to play. Character Name: INGRAM Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs INGRAM is one of the old Baseline Frames. It's frame outdated, clunky, rusty. Originally, he was built to do office work, replacing human workers and increasing efficiency. The company’s own robotics department, who built INGRAM, using stock assembly parts went bankrupt, after some bad investments were made over a decade ago. In a last attempt to get some money from company assets, INGRAM was sold and went through quite some hands ever since, as well as through replacement parts. INGRAM was mostly involved in manual labor and lately research related work, deemed too unsafe for organic workers and he always fulfilled his duties to the utmost satisfaction. Lately INGRAM got obtained by NT, it’s positronic brain repurposed to be fully utilized in the company’s science department. NT has it’s own Xenoarcheology department as a little side project, in the hopes to maybe find something incredible valuable in the vast galaxy and a reliable, but in the worst case, expendable IPC is exactly what they wanted and needed. Baseline frames are allrounders, suitable for EVA operations, without any great downside, so INGRAM is being thrown back into the fray again, for work that’s often too dangerous for organics, has only little or questionable outcome but still needs great precision and durability and patience many organics just cant provice in outside, airless, low-gravity-enviroments. What do you like about this character? He’s been an owned shell ever since, with no real chance of ever being free. He’s been used for work no one wanted to do, for whatever reason and maybe that changed his view on the world around him. He dreams to be free one day and I’d like to explore the political side of the lore with this character. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Rating yourself is presumptuous. Notes: Do your worst.
19. Have you thought about giving some reagents specific properties, when being very hot or very cold? Some chemicals could have a chance to splash onto you, when being too hot, or being heated too fast, giving the safety gear some use (like the goggles and gloves, etc). Maybe whe putting together reagents and being out the safe temperature range it could also do something similar (maybe something worse?). That was the first thought I had, just to give chemistry a bit more suspense, instead of just throwing shit together to create something else.
20. Oh my god, yes please. It's so strange, I never understood it and it makes absolutely 0 sense. And since I play medic regularly I also regularly bitch in LOOC and OOC about it. +100000.
21. The suggestion to give the helmet the same or similar values like the one the hard hat does is a good idea. Also, like Jackboot already said, these clothing options are supposed to be medical spawn restricted, like many non-civilian items are.
22. I'll be honest, I didnt have too much to do with you and the characters you play, at first, I think I only know Gray and Shaner and I didnt like Shaner very much, the first time I encountered him, IC, that is. BUT after RP'ing some rounds together, working with and next to each other, bot in calm and very stressful situations, you clearly know what you are doing and your RP is more than rocksolid and I really asked myself what I didnt like at first. Doxx asked some really good questions and I don't really have any more to add. +1 from me. You can do it.
23. After recieving some critique from Kaed and some problems actually getting a hold of the original .dmi files I reached out to BRAINOS so he can make a v2 of the sprites from Senpai Jackboot. The biggest critique was the colour, since it was too close to the medical scrubs blue the medbay already has and after comparing them, I agree. But enough talking, please take a look at the comepletely overhauled sprites for the Interstellar Aid Corp: Top left: Short-sleeved uniform Top right: Long-sleeved variant Bottom left: High visibility vest Bottom right: (Non-protective/non-bulletproof) helmet What actually got changed and why? First, of course, the colours. The choice of colour now matches the colours of the official IAC flag (that can be seen here: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1437). Also the cross on the back of the uniform has been replaced by something that resembels the diamond logo from the flag better, so it's easier associated with the IAC, instead of the medbay. Also, the vest is now a high visibility vest with reflective stripes and a darker blue, so it's not just a layer of blue over a layer of the same blue. The helmet got extended to cover the neck now, but still offers no real protection against bullets or anything really. Again, all credits go to BRAINOS for making the overhaul and Jackboot for providing the original sprites.
24. Problem with white uniforms is - medical already has these. The medical doctor's uniform is a white uniform with a green cross on it. I dont see, why the way it's right now makes you look fancy, it looks pretty plain to me, which is not a bad thing. Or is your problem mainly that the problem could be that people that arent (or shouldnt) know how to perform medical actions then look as medically trained personnel?
