As a mechanical point, we already have this: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1728 Having Jackboot assign a person (or two to three) to manage stuff like that on the forums might also be a good idea, as extra oomph.

No response from the person appealing the ban, appeal denied.

We'll make this a top priority.

Iiit's because of radiation mechanics having been remade to be infinitely more lenient than they used to be. So, it's basically a bug. Will bw reviewing and adjusting this week.

Nikolai The Beast - Forced Round End, Faked Sing Release
Skull132 replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Here's my question to Nikolai. What were the considerations made that led to the shuttle call? I don't really care about what happened afterwards, but the thought process and assessment that led to it. -
Good form for SS13 roleplay is that if someone experiences SSD while conducting action, you wait for them to come back in, unless you actually have a live situation. You did not, as it was only you and the officer. Their internet crashed, so good sportsmanship would have been to wait for them to come back and continue from there. Rules state you don't touch SSDs. If they would have actually left you in permabrig for 48 minutes with nothing to do, then you could have adminhelped it.

Inverted Rectum's weekly head whitelist application.

Application judgement retroactively turned over with the account of this complaint: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1765&start=10#p16844 -
The only ability which I would want to, and have wanted to touch, is magic missile. Perma stunlocking is a bit shit. But beyond that, there are ways to subdue a wizard properly. You just can't do it alone, as security. There are at least two departments which have supplies to assist security in the capture of a wizard. Also, if the wizard keeps raising the bar to the point where security is forced to attack it with lethal force, then it's his problem. Just don't get complacent and don't take this as green light to deduce a wizard's capture to "Yaaay, we got him. Yaaay, he escaped. Yaaay, we get to shoot him now." There have been many wizards captured in the past, it can be done again.
-
No, but see, they should. An antagonist should have directly countering mechanics to their opposition. In this case, a Wizard should have the abilities that give him the opportunity to evade capture. As simple as that. Also, consider the following: once cuffed and captured, a wizard loses a minimum of his staff. That already draws away from his potential. If he escapes, he'll have to double his efforts of play, or seek his staff back. So it is not a, "Get out of jail free card." It's more like a tactical smoke screen where he pulls out to lick his wounds, and continue with what he has left.

Security staff logging for the round in the briefing room.
Skull132 replied to ForgottenTraveller's topic in General
Psst. Cryo exists for a reason. The briefing room should ideally just be used to go AFK for like half an hour max, when you have a definite time of return. When you don't: please stow your gear and go to cryo. -
I. Do not see the issue in this being a thing. Not one bit. It can't be salvaged? Yeah, okay, but that doesn't exactly matter. It's an option that actually makes a meaningful difference in the game. Also, it's a conscious choice. So you can't just accidentally end up with it. And machinery generally isn't expected to malfunction to the point of it needing to get wrecked, what you speak of is not a standard occurance. I'ts a choice. A nice one that has an effect on IC without being too stupid. So why not?

The three distinctions of mobile synthetic assistants aboard the station: Cyborg An MMI-d cyborg, where the hunam brain is used as a core processor. Android A cyborg equipped with a positronic brain as a core processor. Robot A robot equipped with neither: all processes are spread out to individual controllers. Why does this choice exist? Well, because when you choose to be a robot, you accept the handicap of, "Once I die, that will be it." Where as with a cyborg or an android, your core processor can be extracted and you can carry on with your life, being a happy little (annoy) brain in someone's satchel. If you come across one such thing where you need to extract the processor and scrap the body, then, well. Find another option. I think it's actually quite neat, and presents variety.

Lifted. Will be under review with future antaggy goodness.

Okay. So, the admins had a bit of a discussion about it. We would like to see it tested. Even if it purely ends up as being, "We tested this, doesn't work," we still want to have the experience and confirmation. The basic idea for the testing is to have it in two phases. Phase one will be where you need an active HoS to transfer over for one round. This will also be reliant on active feedback. So, the basic premise is: HoS wants to assist with testing, so they load up, and at the start of the round use some mechanic to outfit sec with ballistics. They play through the round, and then file a feedback report on how it went. Once we get enough feedback reports, we'll move onward. Phase two will be completely replacing the existing tasers with ballistic and less than lethal alternatives, regardless of an active hosses status. This is a less controlled environment, more akin to day to day usage. Phase one will effectively serve to prepare and familiarize. Just dumping new weaponry onto folks will make the results skewed. It will also offer a more controller environment in which to address issues and so forth. Phase two will be the actual test in active operation. Thoughts?

It has the sprites showing as diagonal, but the projectiles would still be forced to move as they do. Unless I am proven otherwise.

For clarity's sake. This is Skull talking as a player. Not as a representative of the Admin Staff. What you read below are my personal beliefs and understandings, which do not match the rules, and are thus not enforceable. But. I was taught something a few years back. Actually, it's a lesson that keeps popping up no matter where I go. So I have taken it to heart. Much like I have with other teachings and lessons. It goes something like this: the moment you fall to the same level as the person you are complaining about, both of you will either be punished or ignored. Now, this isn't how the staff operates here, but. Why is it like that in general? Well. It's mainly the fact that your opponent being a destructive dick doesn't give you the excuse for being a destructive dick. You may and probably should get slammed for it, as the excuse, "He broke the law, so can I!" does not hold water. Anywhere. In doing so, I also personally expect the initial issue, and the subject of my complaining, to be ignored. Drastically more than were I to not violate the rules, and go through the proper channels. Let's use an example to illustrate. Let's say a player joins our server. He gets testy over adminhelps with me. I have two options: - Retain my composure and follow through with a series of neutral responses and see whether or not they cross the line. If they do, punish them. - Drop my composure and engage them in a verbal duel, thus violating the very rules I am here to uphold, but more importantly, meant to adhere to as well -- acting like a dick towards them goes against the rules. Let's say I choose the second option, against better judgement. And note that this has actually happened to a few minor degrees, usually when I find myself lone modding at like, 5 in the morning. Or my judgement is impaired in another fashion. Anyways, I return fire and thus act like a dick towards them. By doing so, I willingly step away from any grounds on which I could punish them. I can non longer do that. Further more, I open myself up for a staff complaint and reprimanding action. This all means that the initial issue of that player being a butt is more likely to be ignored. So yah. I dunno. Player complaints if you feel like someone's gone over the line, even if it ends up with the situation just being cleared up, it's still better than you muddling your own point through inappropriate action, don't you think?
-
I don't think this is possible. At all. Ever notice how everything moves like this? In a cardinal direction, and through a series of left/right/up/down movements is the only way to it appears possible to achieve diagonal movement. So, unfortunately, this is an engine limitation of BYOND.
-
You gentlemen and ladies do realize that this basically turned into a place to vent and call people out? Which is by no means constructive anymore, and just serves to offer personal satisfaction, no actual solution to be provided. Please, consider filing player complaints and actually maintaining a constructive effort towards this? Because, shouting at people does not do anything. It just creates a larger mess to walk out of.

Staff Complaint, Dea Tacita, TishinaStalker.
Skull132 replied to a topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I am of mind to give him a whitelist, by basically over turning the decision made on the last one as the points made against him, which were the items that effectively caused it to time out, have been explained here. However, do understand that I need to coordinate this with the other staff, as we've never had a case like this before. I would still like to know whether or not he considers the rest suitable or not. -

You'll have to pardon the eccentricity of my mind, however, I see communicating much the same as a dance: a step forward, one to the side, a step backwards. Maybe a little twirl, as you and your partner feel like it. It's a lot of cues and knowledge, if you're communicating when someone you know. If you're talking with someone you don't know, you'll usually end up doing one of two things: either a slow dance with small movements, or taking control over the dance and forcibly driving it to where you intend it to end up at. I would put shitposting as falling under the second option. But the beauty of it is, it's still dancing. With that said, I am willing to say that I can see a part of your argument. I still do not condone shitposting, as I have managed to solve a whole lot more issues through one on one conversations, regardless of community, and I know for a fact that it works here. Now. Here's what I propose. Dea Tacita and TishinaStalker have both been tracking this thread, and I am certain that they are capable of unravelling the ball of yarn you've tossed out here. Would ensuring in that be sufficient? And as for apologies. You'll have to excuse me, I never really cared for them, and until quoted otherwise, I won't really ask for one. Words are completely useless until actions provide reinforncement to them. So, I will manage the staff by that mantra, and should we fail that end, our end, that is grounds for more publically visible action. Thoughts? -

Skull132 replied to a topic in Staff Complaints Archive
You'll have to excuse me, I do not see this as an issue minus one count. It should be, in my mind, permitted for a staff member in charge of applications to raise concerns regarding the application and applicant. This is what happened, and it is normal. If equal weight is given to similar issues, regardless of who raises them on an application, then it is just par for the course and another day at the office, no? The only issue here I see is the fact that the person raising the complaint chose to also deny it. However, this was not due to the fact that they were subjectively dissatisfied with your answers, but simply because the application went inactive for 7 days. A better practice would have been TishinaStalker deny it, however consider that they had already denied one of your applications, so that action also could have lent towards the argument of bias being raised (in my mind, it is a show of better form that Dea managed your application, instead of Tishina doing it again). And as noted, your ingame conduct was not the issue. What I was trying to, and still am trying to get at is the fact that as a head of staff, your actions will be scrutinized by other players regardless of round type and your official antagonist status. You need to be capable of remaining collected in a situation where a decision made in game, a decision which appeared valid at the time, is filed up as a complaint by a player. The complaint does not even have to be objectively valid: it can still be submitted and discussion about it to a degree is required (barring straight up outlandish things). I do not think who was right and who was wrong was raised as a concern. More so your conduct and the way you held yourself in the arguments in question raised concern. Of partial mind to agree with you here. It's easier to contact people directly, in my mind, as then you don't need to worry about external noise, and can manage your tone better. But this is my opinion and my preferred MO. -
For the time present, as Soundscopes said: traitor and ERT items. We may look to incorporate these into RnD in the future, but I'd like to do something special for that. Instead of just: get level -> make thing -> kill nuke ops. Sound funzies?
