As a note, I have no intent on punishing anyone concerning the matter outlined in my earlier reply. Presedence was unset, ergo, administrators and moderators conducted actions based on what seemed best for the round, in that specific, isolated case. That's how these things go. I checked the adminhelp logs for 09FEB today, and the matter is nothing more than the administrator in question conducting as they saw fit for the round, and not managing a punishment on an issue up for debate. That's just about it. With the presedence now set, all members of staff will be advised on how to manage future cases like this. EDIT: if anything, you are dealing with a failure of management and institution: a failure of my own in letting this matter persist for this long. Well, I'm here now, so let's manage this.

I'm against IPCs with binary: it's a secure channel not accessible to employees who are unbound by the synthetic laws of the corporation, and information there can be used maliciously. Ergo, NT would want to keep you off that network. Also, the reason why I'm effectively suggesting trying to mess around with the present system, instead of introducing another language, is that right now, every race has its own language. It's become a mold, and I'm trying to see if we can maybe break that mold a little. Also, read carefully: they'd have all human languages, minus sign language, plus one alien language of their free pick. It's about half-way on par with what the cyborgs have.

Okay, Regarding the usage of monkeys from the cargo bay to feed a changeling. I wish to further the following point: action described bypasses intended mechanics of the gamemode, and the escalation it brings with it. By that point, it becomes powergaming, and is also seen as behaviour with intent to win, as opposed to involve people in a round. The excuse of, "I do not wish to remove people from the round to gain power" further proves this point: the gameplay style is not aimed towards creating conflict, but instead to gain access to an arbitrary number of genome points and powers. Consider that any actions taken with the highest level powers will usually include severly harming, if not killing someone. If that is not your intent, then what meaningful conflict do you expect to bring into the round as an antag with such great powers? And as a final argument: should the presedence be set the other way, and this deemed acceptable behaviour, then any changeling playing cargo bay would not only circumvent the build up in the round, but also receive a very distinct, if not damning advantage over other lings. This would become acceptable and spread MO, and thus remove the frail and careful changeling phase that is present in a round. Ultimately, had this been kept to single occurrences, I would not mind. But for the reasons above, I do not want to see this as an acceptable and thus spread MO. Presedence set, future offences would be punished. And regarding the Moderator clearing that. I have a name, so I'll look into the matter.

Except, on principal, whitelist applications are no longer a popularity contest. And while the system present on ye olden forums proved useful, I have yet to find a decent PHP plugin that enables this functionality, without being terribly obtrusive about its existence. I did look.

The way you phrased yourself was perceived as willfully abrasive and condescending. From what I can manage, you're not a native English speaker, so that's probably why.
-
I advise you gentlemen check your attitude, there's little need to get condescending and childish about this. On target: two challenges are present with this. First, how to actually check automagically whether the server is up or not. I know it can be done, I just have not invested time into looking around. Second point is where to shove the indicator. Well, actually, no, I have an answer in the works for it. But it won't be the forums, purely due to the fact that it's more difficult to modify the lump of already present PHP as opposed to creating a new piece. We'll see, this is an area of coding I don't know very well.

The IP and CID tied to a ban are selected automatically, as they are tied to the client entity that is banned. So the entry was not an erronous/manual one. The ban was applied during the summer, I do believe I was there for that; the bantime is a fetch from the database, the date when we migrated the banlist over. I'll modify the original ban so that it should no longer attempt to nab your CID. Let me know when you are able to access the server again.

Initially, both situations are acceptable. Let's expand, though, because just a "yes" answer would be shitty in this thread. Situation one, I would expect the nuke operative to have the capacity to overpower the virologist. Let's say, instead of complying with the virologist, the nuke operative arms himself with an alternate weapon and overpowers the virologist. This would, in my honest opinion, be a legitimate move in that situation as well. Here is the why: The virologist is expected to be untrained in weaponry, ergo, the amount of control he has over the situation is minimal. Further more, virology itself is a very confined space, any actions taken with a firearm there can be very easily countered with melee. So, was the nuke operative to lose distance and disarm, I would also count it as legit. Wins he who does, but I would not take any action against either side. Acknowledge the following fact: the virologist in that situation became a combatant knowingly, and willingly. He could have opted to leave the weapon, and run. He did not. He picked up the weapon. He equipped it. Raised it on another, hostile combatant. He is now a combatant, and as such, he may be killed as a combatant. Situation two. Initial encounter: if the Security Officer is in possession of equipment, intelligence or otherwise means that land him an advantage in that situation, or at the very least, permit him to engage the nuke operative on equal terms, he is in the right to take the opportunity. Alternative one: call for backup, and assault then. Would still be a surprise attack, however, and would still catch the nuke operative "unaware." Now, here is why I don't take issue with the initial arrest: the nuke operative broke one of the foremost rules of combat: you always have security up. His inability to ensure in his own safety should not cause trouble for other players, they do not have to be "fair" to him, they can use any holes he leaves for them. Well, guess what. He left a massive fucking hole in his own personal security. Well done, never play nuke op again learn and avoid making the same mistake again. Actions following the arrest, however, they're shitty. Once secured, hold for backup, ensure that they are restrained and have no armaments on them. This does mean you strip them to an extent, because you are not forced to be dumb enough to give someone a chance like that. If you do, that's on you, but you won't be forced to.

It's a grind, Hackie. We have a tracker and assigned personnel, but it's going to be a grind until the backlog is cleared. Wer6, you'd have to talk to an admin, get them to share your vision and go from there. Basically, it's as often as people are willing to try and learn.
