Command Application - Equairio
Tomixcomics replied to Equairio's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I play CMO Mako Wu and I've interacted with Kimura, Rana and Ka’Akaix’Kiiix C’thur, they all seemed pretty competent at what they do and were fun to RP with. I support this. +1 I've also had a a chance to guide Rana a bit as a CMO in the workings of what it entails. Looking forward to seeing her in more advanced positions on the station. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint Kobi Goldman
Tomixcomics replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Okay, here's my two cents, as the person playing Mako, the CMO during that shift. 1. The fact you wanted to destroy the Golem is already a bit iffy because, because while I understand and can accept the IC logic of wanting to harvest the biggest diamond you've ever seen, especially as a lawful evil character - OOCly That is still another player character, and as neither of you are antags or hurting the station, it typically shouldn't be your goal to take out other player characters from the round. Removing a player from the round doesn't promote RP, it removes it. Especially in an already low-pop round. A better way to handle that might've been to make the decision that at the end of the shift it would be smelted down or something. That was the first thing that made me think you might be an antag. The fact you also made it another crew member's direct order to perform this killing, which they did not want to do, in what could've ended up being a canon extended round, was another. 2. Just to give some context to how it happened - The idea to make the Golem the captain's bodyguard was my idea, because I walked into science, saw you have a gun pointed at you and figured "hey, you know what's stronger than a bullet? diamonds. And you know what's made of diamond and needs to prove it's usefulness to the captain to avoid being destroyed? The golem" so I called it over in a hurry and told it to guard the captain. 3. You say "Goldman just tells engineering to block off the blob with walls to stop it from expanding. Goldman largely ignores the blob because engineering is SUPPOSED to be on it, in his mind, they can handle it." - Both Mako and Engineering have repeatedly told Goldman that this will not work and that blobs eat walls. Mako even compared it to holding acid in a paper cup. To which Goldman replied "Then make the cup out of metal!", to which, I think Mako responded "Blobs eat metal!". Any time he was asked HOW they are supposed to hold it when blobs eat walls, there was radio silence. He also mentioned on at least one or two occasions that he is the only person working Medbay and he can't keep up with the influx of patients coming in and urging him to reconsider because he wouldn't be able to keep patching them up if another person came in while he was treating someone else. He also mentioned to Goldman that any time the engineers or the security officer that eventually showed up - are in medbay getting surgery - that's time that the blob is growing without these people fighting it. And therefore, the fact that they are eventually getting patched up does not mean the situation is under control. 4. I don't want to attack Goldman too hard, I will say this - I fully agree with his motive that some things are more important than the station. This is why it took Mako a long time to agree with the HoP's request to ignore the Captain's orders and declare him unfit, and he tried to convince him with words or understand what is happening. Mako agreed that if the disk contained information that is immensely deadly and widely dangerous- it should not be allowed to get out of the station by any means. The issue is this: Mako, on several occasions, asked the captain how delaying the evacuation was supposed to help us obtain the disk, and was met with no response. People were dying from a blob that was inching towards the engine (which the Captain was made aware of), Medbay was one person working at capacity, and Goldman didn't want to call for an ERT because he didn't want to involve outside sources. In general, the captain was not very communicative with the rest of command staff and only mentioned that an important disk was stolen after the HoP was already trying to declare him unfit for service. If he had actually given a decent enough reason as to how having innocent crew members not evacuate an exploding station with ONE sec member on board and a golem - was supposed to help retrieve something from a burglar who, for all anyone knew - could've flown off ages ago - was supposed to help RECOVER this theft, he would not have been mutinied. But Goldman wasn't explaining his logic to anyone, he was ignoring most things he was being asked, not filling anyone in on what was happening, not asking anyone who could actually help for help, etc. I don't feel like there should be actions taken against the player OOCly - it was just a round, and an interesting one at that, and he acted how he saw was right. The only thing I'd argue was iffy OOCly is trying to destroy the golem. I would argue that ICly - Goldman did not behave the way a captain should and some things should be changed about the way he acts if similar situations pop up again. Lawful evil or not - if the entire station is telling you "we can't contain the emergencies", repeatedly telling them "contain the emergencies!" without elaborating on how is not very captainly. -
Okay apparantly I have been sitting on an absolute treasure trove of these. And now... the moment you've all been both waiting for and fearing...
-
A part of me agrees, but another part of me feels like ever since all these annoying issues have become a part of surgery, doing surgery requires more knowledge and attention to what you're doing, which makes it complicated and difficult like... well... surgery! Injuring someone while cancelling an action is not unlike botching a complicated surgery a bit. And I think it adds a minimal level of skill and attention to detail to the job that, frankly, feels appropriate for what the job is supposed to be. And let's be clear, I say this as a surgeon/CMO main who has had his own fair share of fucking up.

Rework the way the game selects heads of staff vs. antags.
Tomixcomics replied to Tomixcomics's topic in Archive
That wasn't what I suggested, though. I was saying it would be nice to have the option of being either head of staff or antag, but usually having one enabled means you can never have the other. Really? Huh. Weird, feels like it hasn't happened in ages. Ah well. If you say it's still possible then I guess that's fine. Still a shame about station-based antags though. -
Right, so my (basically only) character is a CMO. I also have surgeon enabled as a possible proffession for it. I also have various antags checked to "on". And on several times now I've readied up, only to have a round fail to start because "Unable to start [round type I have enabled on my antag list]. Not enough antagonists, 1 antagonist(s) needed" This, combined with the fact I haven't been randomly selected to be an antag in forever, made me realize the game has been actively skipping me since I started playing head of staff. Now, I can understand why heads of staff aren't allowed to be antags, I guess. I mean, I don't LIKE it, I certainly remember a time when it was possible for heads of staff to be antags and I feel like as long as a person roleplays something interesting out of it (which heads of staff are supposed to be whitelisted specifically for that dedication), it's fine, but... I have a different issue with this. I like playing head of staff, I like playing antag, but because apparently the game first selects heads of staff and only then assigns antag roles, this system basically forces me to choose to ALWAYS have one enabled and one disabled. There is no way where I can play either one or the other. If I have Head of Staff as an enabled option, I will ALWAYS be skipped over for antag roles, and if I want it to be possible to get antag roles, I have to disable being Head of Staff. Now, I'm not saying you should let me be both of those things in the same round (though I wouldn't complain if that was possible), what I'm saying is - it should be reversed. Where it first selects who the antag is, and THEN selects what roles to place people in. That way a person can play either one or the other instead of having to choose between the two. It's a real bummer finding out that I basically have to choose between demoting my main character canonically and no longer playing head of staff in a department that is frequently in need of one, or giving up the concept of antagging on every shift except ones where someone happens to have the head of staff role in a higher priority than I do.

Medicine supplies "left over from previous shift"
Tomixcomics replied to Tomixcomics's topic in Archive
I always felt like cargo was it's own seperate thing, like incoming supply shipments to the Aurora that just haven't been sent to their departments yet. That's the way I've seen it get played off by other characters, as well. I don't see why the cleanup crew would remove gear like advanced scalpels form the Operating Rooms and bring them to cargo. (I mean, obviously some suspension of disbelief has to be in play with ANYTHING involving the cleanup crew and shift transfers and all that, I realize that, but still... I feel like there's more mental gymnastics involved in how Medbay "resets" itself than there is with other departments). Plus, while there are exceptions to this, more often than not, Medbay only gets a shipment from cargo about halfway into the shift, if at all. If a mess has already hit the fan by then, it might take until the end of the shift to even realize a shipment arrived or get around to seeing what's in the crate in the firstplace. I feel like having at least a small handful of items spawn in Medbay itself would help give the feel of things left over from previous shifts, help players during lowpop, and help cause discussion and variety between medical and science. (I really feel like it's become a meme to have someone from science come to Medbay, drop off some stuff and walk off without saying a single word). And if the amount of randomly spawned items is small enough I don't think it will detract from the contributions that pharmacy, science and cargo have in these regards, while adding value to both realism and resource managment. -
Right, so, I feel like this idea could work well for several departments, but I'm mostly gonna focus on it in the context of medical, since I feel like that's where it would apply best. I think medical should have random things left over "from previous shifts" when a round starts. Namely meds. (To clarify: This doesn't actually have anything to do with what medbay had last shift, I'm talking about randomly generated items) It always feels a bit weird to me how everything about medical "resets", arguably more than other departments do, between shifts. There are never any meds in the fridge at the start of the shift even though there's usually plenty at the end of the shift (assuming there was a chemist). And even though almost every shift ends up with Medical getting something like a medibot, or special scalpels, or some other "boons", they're always gone by the time the next shift rolls around, yet all the characters know what they are. I think it would be nice if, at the start of a shift, medical would start with a certain (SMALL! I don't want to take ALL the challenge out of it) number of randomly generated supplies, as though they were left over from previous shifts. Maybe like... 3 or so bottles of random chems in the chemistry fridge, or like, a %5 chance of there being a lazer scalpel in the OR, or a medibot, etc. Maybe you have like a %1 chance of rolling a mech parked in the EMT bay! Mostly, the chems idea, though. I feel like this is mostly important in the context of leftover chems. Now, obviously, I'm not saying we should just start fully kitted out. I don't want to take the job away from the pharmacists, roboticists and cargo techs who usually supply this stuff. But having just a FEW randomly spawned supplies at the start of the shift would... 1. Increase realism, because medbay wouldn't have to keep resetting and pretending nothing happened and that items just vanish between shifts for no reason like it was a bad sitcom, and science would actually need to check what medbay needs instead of just assuming all their gear disappeared again, leading to more interaction between departments. 2. Have a chance of helping you out at least a little on lowpop shifts where there just isn't anyone to make you the stuff you need 3. Add an interesting aspect of resource managment. ("We only have one half-empty bottle of X! Use it VERY sparingly! Wait... Who took it?!?! YOU'RE A SURGEON WHY ARE YOU TAKING OUR ONLY BOTTLE OF ALKYSINE?!")

+1 out of me, Ostrov is a good character and always fun to have around and I haven't spoken to Jose as much but he certainly seems like a deep and engaging character. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Lordnesh
Tomixcomics replied to Haydizzle's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hey! Sorry for being late to the party, happened to be looking up Mako's name and came across this thread. I didn't look into everything ELSE that was discussed, just wanted to add my two cents specifically about the matter with Mako in the surgery room, since other people seemed to be discussing it: I had no real issue with it, personally. There wasn't MUCH RP but there still was at least some, and I definitely got the impression that I am getting the choice of leaving and not being hurt, or staying and risking it. I also told the admins as much when they BWOINKED me. I didn't feel like he just popped outta nowhere and ganked me without giving me a chance. I felt like I had a choice, and picked what felt right for Mako (he's worked here a while, he's seen some WILD, borderline supernatural shit, learned to be cool under pressure, and has a strong sense of responsibility for what goes on in the OR, which explains why he wouldn't just freak out and run away screaming at the sight of a skeleton, even if he is afraid, especially since, if I remember correctly, he still needed to stop the patient's bleeding from the incision he just caused himself). I could've, theoretically, had him run out when told to, and survived. It just didn't feel right for his character so I *chose* to stay. So as far as Mako's death that round goes - I have no issues with it! More RP would've been ENJOYABLE but I don't feel it was NECESSARY for the purpose of having RP and also giving me a choice, because I did get that. Having said that, I'm not sure the same can be said for an unconscious person who is currently sedated on a surgery table, but, that would also involve RP that happened prior to the surgery scene, I'm assuming, which I was not part of. So I might not be the best person to ask about that, specifically. -
DAMMIT you beat me to posting that one xD I think that's a "Screenshots that make you go hmm" though

The respawn was 20 minutes. I distinctly remember it saying I had 19:xx minutes left before I could respawn when I tried to. I also found it weird because I remembered it being 5 from previous games, but assumed it was one of the things that got changed while I was away from the game.

BYOND Key: Tomixcomics Staff BYOND Key: MattAtlas Game ID: b7B-cheu Reason for complaint: I logged in and wanted to play a rat. I spawned in the AI chamber(or some similar place) and was immediately shot dead by turrets before I had a chance to do anything. I ahelped explaining the issue and asking politely if I may please be respawned, and was answered with a harsh "No" followed by immediately closing my ticket within the second, without any further explanation or time for me to reply. I already felt this was strangely harsh, given that I asked pretty politely. It's not like I was killed while playing a rat and wanted an immediate respawn so I can pick up where I left off. I legitimately just didn't get a chance to play because of where my spawn point was. I didn't understand why not, seeing as it wasn't explained, so I ahelped again asking "why?" The response was "Because you're not getting a respawn, since it'd also mean you'd be able to respawn as a human". I had no intention of spawning as a Human, nor did I see why it would be an issue if I did respawn as one, after all, if I waited 20 minutes I could respawn as one anyway, so why would this be an issue? I informed MattAtlas about this, and asked them why me respawning as a Human would be an issue? Their response didn't answer my question, and felt pretty accusatory. "Because respawns are not a right, and it is up to us to give it to you, not the opposite", followed immediately by another abrupt ticket-closing that gave me no chance to respond. I felt like I was being treated pretty aggressively while also getting no answer for my questions. I messaged a final, third time, to try and resolve the issue, expressing that I was bothered by the abrupt closings and replying to what was said. I was once again answered with a harsh answer and a ticket closure. At this point I realized there's no room for discussion here and did not ahelp again. I waited out 20 or 30 minutes before eventually respawning. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: I want to clarify: My issue here has less to do with the fact I was not given a respawn, but moreso with how rudely I felt it was handled, and the fact my questions weren't answered, and the fact I felt like I was getting the "phone" slammed in my face when I tried to be nothing but polite. I honestly feel like the closest thing I did to being impolite was maybe ahelping a 3rd time, because I was confused, hoped this was just some miscommunication and was hoping we could resolve this amicably. If I was not allowed a respawn but it was at least handled politely, I would not be writing this thread right now.

What would you do if you woke up as your aurora character?
Tomixcomics replied to NoahGoldFox's topic in General
Seconded. I'd probably just wait the shift out in the library then get the fuck home and never go to work again. -
Hmm. Well, while this does not affect my martian character specifically (Besides the fact he now grew in a dome, I guess, rather than a terraformed area, and is in the capitol now), I do think this seems to take out an interesting element of mars. I thought that it having had a large struggling population made it more interesting seeing how earth is already post-war enough to be doing fairly well and New Mendell is a thriving economy. Gave characters a central and commonly-enough known location that offers a lower class background.
