This suggestion doesn't necessarily force the piano into your ears. It just makes it optional.
-
I get that people might not like instruments, but let's be real here. The piano is an iconic part of the bar, and of SS13, whether it's controversial or not. Every time I want to put the piano in the bar I have a dumb checklist and goose chase. I have to bother cargo and have magical, borderline metagamey knowledge of where one is kept in maintenance. It gets on my nerves, and I feel like maybe I'm not the only one somehow. Either way, for the people who do want the piano, the piano could be left in the backroom with a wrench. Given an option to install it, rather than having it shoehorned into the bar. Perhaps it could have something similar to a permit as well, where it is only allowed in the bar. Bottom line is to have it be optional and attainable, without going way out of your way and being made to do ridiculous things every round while still keeping it to the side for those who dislike it.

A handkerchief. Can be added to loadout. Good for catching sneezes(preventing mucus drippings), or wiping up small amounts of blood(drips and maybe just one splat). After a few uses(balanced), it will require a rinse in the sink. Handkerchiefs are pretty common in real life, and are good for these purposes in-game.

The adult section should be removed for consistency within our server. Just look at the Discord and OOC, where we cannot even discuss some adult topics without getting a warning or cease-and-desist. Why does a workplace have an adult section in its library? We've even resprited women to not have breasts, with their bras being more sexual than their chest. Really, it's just weird to keep it here with the way staff and everyone acts about such topics. Why bother?

I don't think you're serious. Why did you bother commenting? It's not useless. Do you think it's good that we literally throw perfectly good plates and so on down disposals?
-
I feel like we need dishes that actually get dirty and need to be washed. Wiping your plates down with a rag and so on just doesn't cut it, and the bartender/chef don't really have chores anyway. It's another minigame to their job that I feel would be welcome and not only believable, but could theoretically be used to traitor. More on that in the last paragraph, and it's optional. Once glasses have been sipped from a few times, give them an appropriately unappealing description and sprite. Plates that have their meals consumed and are empty could be renamed to dirty dishes with a change from "this is rubbish" to "this needs to be washed." Give the kitchen and bar a dishwasher and also the ability to stack dirty dishes in a sink before washing them with soap and a sponge. Sponges become filthy after a few loads, and it would require you to manually sit a moment whereas the dishwasher is automatic and comparable with the time of a microwave. The dishwasher requires equipment electricity, also. Give them a few sponges and detergent tabs. Once those run out of those, they can get more from cargo or something. Poisoning would be balanced with simple division. More glasses means a weaker end result per dish. You also must still have a detergent tab to also insert into the dishwasher, on top of whatever you mix in. The cups still have to be clean, after all. Only an invisible coating will be applied. How the coating is traced back is open to discussion. It's just an idea for traitoring.

Below are some concepts that I want to discuss. Not all of them are mine, but I figured this is something everyone could pitch in on. If something is there that you painfully disagree with, explain why. If you like a concept, do not hesitate to expand upon it. Some elements could be used, while others are abandoned for their unbalance or tedium. This is for us to all talk about it, not shoehorn in everything as is. What's key here is strategy and situational awareness, as well as racial bonuses for being more RPG like. Create gaps in your enemy's defense and exploit them for a counter attack. No longer will people spam disarm or grab, no matter the situation. A weak tajara trying to wrestle an unathi will be at a disadvantage, because they cannot block the oncoming blows so well, for example. Disarm or grab can be countered or SOMETHING, if you're the right race or know what your opponent is doing. RANGED ACCURACY(CAN APPLY TO MELEE) So that positioning matters. Enemy and you face each other. 75% on chest and groin, 50% on limbs, 25% on head. Side shots depend on how you're both facing. 75% to relevant limbs, 25% head, 50% chest. If you're behind and they're facing away, ~75% across all targets. MELEE COMBAT More options that depend on race and additional strategies. Disarm and grab intents help when under attack, but in different ways. Depending on your race, you will either be balanced at this or biased towards one technique. INTENTIONS HELP INTENT: No buffs or penalties in combat. You are relaxed but able to react with default percentages on a miss. You do not want this on if you're in a fight or being shot at. HARM INTENT: Attacking stance. Hit enemy with your weapon or fists. You are easier to hit in this stance. Bonus to accuracy. DISARM INTENT: Disarm intent parries or dodges(raising enemy miss chance by a percentage). GRABBING INTENT: Attempt to block opponents, again based on your race and armor. BLOCKING, DODGING, RACE AND ARMOR ARMOR FOR ARMS OR LEGS/JOINT PADDING: Armor reduces limb damage further, depending on its defense rating for each damage zone. Shields will negate all damage if you block with it, and additionally stagger your opponent.(*Joe Bob blocks Rick McRick's kick with their armored left leg!*) (*Rick McRick's arm/leg/Kitchen Knife bounces off Joe Bob's shield!*) DODGE/PARRY: Use your body or weapon to redirect or dodge an attack. Upon success, avoid the attack completely. In a melee, the aggressor will stagger and be open to a counter attack because of your success(THIS IS BEYOND MERE ACCURACY IN MELEE COMBAT. YOU TRIPPED UP YOUR OPPONENT.) Special logs for parrying(eg. Joe Bob parries Rick McRick's Kitchen Knife with their Stun baton!) BLOCK: Upon successfully blocking an attack, you will take less damage than you would have and only to an arm or leg. You will force the enemy to hit a limb and avoid stuns if you block, while protecting your torso, groin, and head. RACIAL BONUSES: No brainer, here. Decide what races are balanced or biased for yourself. Some races will be bad at one intention but good with another. This is to avoid samey combat, while providing counter-strategies to something like disarm spam. Use common sense and decide. Would a bulky unathi have trouble tripping up an agile opponent? Would a lithe tajara struggle to block that same unathi's punches? Etc. AFTERWORD: God, that's a lot of bad grammar. I pity the fool who reads this.

That's not the case for all pills. There are sprites and stuff that chemists can pick to change what they TECHNICALLY appear to be. There could be limits based on how many units you can split, by hand. If you want to get technical, we do have values of units that are less than 1. Like 0.50.
-
I don't see a reason at all for requiring any cutting thing. I mean, snapping a pill isn't that hard, especially if the pill has an indentation for it.
-
A surgical tweak would be good, in my opinion.
-
You would have difficulty speaking without some sort of device. All it takes is removing the device from your gloves slot, at least with how I'm suggesting this. Your ability to talk relies solely on this being equipped and activated, I suppose. Another thing is that the computer voice could be generic locally, and not really just "John Jamar says," and more like "Synthetic voice states." Anyone could use it, after all.

As the person who suggested slippery blood in the first place, as well as the mechanics of it, I've decided to leave my input on this thread. I too have played changeling and was annoyed by this mechanic, but appreciated it everywhere else. Sprinting through blood and gore that is still wet on a tile floor is just asking to slip and fall. But changelings aren't ordinary people. They are like beasts, aliens. They shouldn't be able to screw themselves over by just using their basic abilities in a chase.

There are some roles that could technically do everything they're supposed to despite these handicaps, or with text-to-speech tools. Imagine if your PDA came with a feature that allowed Text-To-Speech, so you could answer calls on your headset and more. Or if they had a wrist-mounted device(takes up hands slot) to broadcast what they wanted either over the radio channel or locally. Some ideas are below, and I think that some restrictions could be discussed. This device could also take audible language, locally, and display it like subtitles on the screen. I still do not think anyone with these handicaps should participate in any management or counseling positions. [*]Librarians can still take book orders and returns without saying a word. They could even search for a book or lead someone to a bookshelf for other requests. All they technically need to do is give a nod or shake their head. Sign language, handwriting, or a voice synthesizer can be used for more specific questions, but all the mandatory responsibilities are possible. Perhaps allow the librarian to be mute, but not completely deaf? [*]Chemists, chefs, and bartenders are other roles that could presumably function without much dialogue. A synthesizer could be used for more wiggle room in places, like journalists or miners.

Just integrate these objects so that they're as readily available for the occupation as their human parts.
-
Either or. Prescription especially, but it's tackling a problem that exists for all forms of human eyewear being smooshed on a xeno's face.
-
With the addition of toeless boots and such, I worry for the padding of a tajara's sole after they slip into one and forget about it. Could we not make it so that the cloth footwraps function as socks rather than a footwear? They could slip that into some boots, y'know. Or wear it with their sandals, like the freaks they are.
-
It could be under the same occupation, but be a subcategory. Like surgeons, but any doctor can technically do surgery. Optional, really. The stuff to do this would be nice in itself, without the extras.
-
That's it. Just more. There's only three, for crying out loud! People can copy my signature without even trying, technically. And we sign papers all the time, on Aurora. More customization would be appreciated, at least by me. For instance, some that actually look like handwriting or stuff that's actually sloppy.
-
Sure, that works. I'm not suggesting that they are prescribed, but their own separate thing. I'll clarify this.
-
Ability to give people vision tests before using special equipment to make individualized pairs of eyeglasses. The additional role/subcategory is not necessary for this suggestion. Merely individualized glasses, vision tests, and creation of eyeglasses, in general, are what counts. [*]You can no longer share or magically find eyeglasses that work perfectly for you. [*]If you are not wearing eyeglasses and yet have the disability, you will have headaches until you put your individualized pair back on. Not game-breaking, but an annoyance you must tolerate. [*]Clones' best friend. Through the process of cloning, a clone's eyes could change and so they may require eyeglasses. An alternative to surgery that promotes roleplay in the medbay for something as trivial as eyesight. [*]Removal of medications or tweaking of medication that heals eyesight. Magical curealls. Pff. [*]Any doctor could use the equipment, but a subcategory could be added. Optional. I am willing to discuss this suggestion for more detailed features and so on.
-
Imagine wearing your eyeglasses without your ears, they'd be falling off all the time! I propose that we create prescription goggles for these species to look through, as it is much more realistic and practical. Someone could even make special sprites for these to appear more elegant and stylish than utilitarian. [*]Prescription eyegoggles and shaded goggles. [*]Xeno species unable to wear eyeglasses. Humans or other races with similar ears only. [*]Humans can technically wear goggles. But why would a human want these? Possibly restrict loadout, but allow them to wear if found. Even then, that's a big stretch. Eyeglasses or eyegoggles that are made for a specific person shouldn't work for everyone, but I digress. [*]Separate containers and places on the station to acquire the goggles. [*]Able to order them from cargo. [*]Goggle adaptations for all forms of HUDs. These will not be prescribed, as they are technology.
-
So that you can ration your medicine or share it with someone else. For that moment when both you and your buddy are suffocating or in pain, for example, but you only have one pill left. I'm sure you could think of other useful applications of this. [*]You can only break the pill in half one time. [*]Requires two hands. [*]Interact with the pill in your primary slot, and it will split into both hands. [*]Optional snapping sound and chat log. [*]Can be used on all pills. [*]If you snap a pill in half, it could split into two different sprites that are available for any pills. All pills share the same appearance when broken, to set them apart from regular pills. [*]Half the dosage of the original pill, obviously.

But then...maintenance access?

Are you against this idea despite you and I having the same intentions? Of course, the barista needs a separate role if they get their own spot in the bar. Switch the booths to be somewhere else if they're so important. The suggestion is for the barista to have their own area, wherever it may be. The bar is just the first place I could think of because it has tables and chairs everywhere, and is the designated spot for food and drinks. The merchant's area next to the bridge is hardly ever used, in retrospect. Then there's the area beside the bar that's for smokers, which could be repurposed into a small room as well. So many places.
-
Remap the bar so that the Barista has their coffee shop set up on the bottom of the room, replacing the booths. Rearrange tables to accommodate their workspace. Now a barista is not forced to operate as a bartender under any circumstance and doesn't have to overlap. Give them only what they need to brew and serve coffee, with a seating area. The bar is very spacious, and could stand to be changed for these purposes. This is a suggestion, so take it with a grain of salt. It's really to spark discussion and maybe change things if anyone sees this as a problem.
