Heads of Staff should no longer be able to take a non-command role within their respective department. Why? Let's take the most obvious, abused example, Security. We've seen multiple rounds where the Security Roster is made up of a Head of Security running the department, the Detective is a HoS the next round, and the Warden was the HoS last round. This is ridiculous. Firstly, it prevents other, newer players who want to play these roles from getting them, taking away variety from the crew roster, and making Security look more like a group of power-playing valid-hunters who want nothing more than to "keep the peace." I can't be the only one who goes "wait, really?" when I see three HoS's in security. Secondly, there are few reasons to actually taking a non-command role as security; you're essentially accepting overtime for less pay than your contact is for; a HoP is paid thrice the wages of their bartender, so why would they ever accept the role? Security officers will get in trouble for playing cadet if they don't get their officer slot. This should be the case for Heads too. While this is mostly an issue within the security department (for obvious reasons), we should expand the rules to all heads of staff for fairness and to better respect the IC motives of it. If you do not get your Head role, why not play a different character? It doesn't have to be a different department: I have three separate characters for different security roles, and each only fills their specific slot. New characters open the way for new experiences, new relationships and stories, don't feel like you HAVE to play your command character.

[1 dismissal] Add lethal shotgun ammunition to the armory
IAmCrystalClear replied to Nantei's topic in Archive
Shells. High damage, short ranged, low AP, shrapnel damage. Slugs. High damage, long ranged, high AP, (This does less "AP" than more "you just got hit with a giant ass metal brick travelling at breakneck speeds"), breaks bones. Beanbags. Low damage, long ranged, low AP, breaks bones. Tasers. Low damage, short ranged, high AP, HALOS damage. Shells are now an effective "street sweeper" for dealing with that vampire that's sucking your cadet to death. Slugs are now punch-packing single-shot rounds for nailing that RIG-suit merc. Beanbags are now an effective way to hurt rioting crew from the safety of your shield-wall. Tasers are now a non-lethal takedown on that asshole miner RIG charging you with his pickaxe. The shotgun is now a versatile weapon that is deadly in the right hands, but has several glaring drawbacks, filling a specific niche in most situations. @SHODAN @Nantei -
The suggestion as a whole is a brilliant concept. I myself can see Azka operating as a scout, while other members of security would transition into the guard roles. There are obvious flaws, such as that of the military RP aspect, but they are easily avoided by several things. They are park rangers and colonial explorers, and if lead by a squad leader who is under authority of the RD, they are simply tools for xenoarchs and other science staff to utilise for protection on various outings. By keeping their loadout simple, we can avoid them having access to weapons that can be considered "military". Replacing the 15-shot wall-charged laser rifle into a 5-shot crank-loaded rifle prevents the scouts from engaging in active warfare but still gives them the strength to defend their homes and crew. The key issue with the the scouts is also their key strength; firepower. The Scouts shouldn't particularly possess major firepower, the should be superior in their mobility. Also, reducing the number of non-lethal tools they have access to would, ironically, reduce their involvement with attempting to be "the law": shooting the chef with a blaster rifle for stabbing a customer would lose you your job. My suggestion for this is giving the scouts a variety of tools that are niche, and clearly designed for hunting: A machete or knife for utility and close-range self-defence, a e-pistol for code green, a cranked, low-power rifle for expeditions and defence, and binoculars for general utility. I'd also suggest their voidsuits/armours have little defence, but let the wearer stay mobile and fast.

[1 dismissal] Research starts with levels
IAmCrystalClear replied to GreenBoi's topic in Completed Projects
A lack of interest in jumping through hoops in RnD is what sources my dislike for playing the role. What if we changed it for a more optional, expedition-based system? Give everything a base starting level, more levels can be gained through finding relics/alien tech/materials accessed via the away shuttle and deconstructing those. -
CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: IAmCrystalClear Character names: Ihuru Azka, Alice Gough, Ilika Ohlu, and several other, lesser used characters, including Baron, Rebecca Moore, Qiao Mei Rong, and more. Age: 19 Timezone: GMT What times are you most available?: I usually play late evenings, and am often seen playing late into the early morning (against my better judgement) on weekends. Experience How long have you played SS13?: About two years now. How long have you played on Aurora?: Aurora was my first server, making it roughly two years. How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I am moderately active on the Relay discord, I have activity spikes on the forum, and I am quite active on the server itself. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have been banned a few times, once to valid-hunting, once to accidentally blowing the SM as a malf AI, and as of this post, I have been banned from playing antag for stealing TC from an SSD player. The valid-hunting ban was then turned to a warning after a discussion with the banning staff, the SM-ban was an accident, and lasted two days, and the antag ban has been permanent for roughly two months. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I currently moderate the Villagers Dream Discord server, and have both run admin and moderated for several other non-SS13 servers. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: I do not as of yet. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: I have applied out of a passion for both paperwork and the server. It's important to me that people on the server can enjoy a fully immersive experience, and CCIA Agents play an integral role in this, acting as a consistent HR department. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Several abilities are important for CCIA Agents to possess, the main one being that the role requires that you stay impartial under all circumstances; you are playing a role that makes big decisions for players, sometimes even handing down permanent punishments to characters. Thus, it is important to be able to detach yourself from whatever emotions you might have, both as a player on the server, and as other characters you might have in relation to the person in question whilst still remaining empathetic to all sides of the story. The second key ability for an Agent is the ability to take concise, clear notes, detailing the events that are transcribed in a non-biased way that are easy enough to read, organised efficiently, and have obvious conclusions drawn from them; this ability is important as there are multiple agents working together on cases, and different agents have different ways of taking and reading notes. Notes tailored explicitly for yourself are useless when presented to other parties, making the ability to discuss outcomes and approaches with other agents far more difficult. Communication is key. Finally, the last key quality of an Agent is to never crack under pressure. In a role primarily focused on dealing with other people, from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures, it is easy to find yourself lost in a sea of information and opinions. Agents should be able to stay calm whilst in this sea, keeping a level head so that they may sort and process as much information in short spaces of time and produce results that remain unbiased and logical. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: Within a round, the primary role of a CCIA Agent is to interview crew who have filed, or are involved in an Incident Report. Otherwise, CCIA Staff are used to ICly host and run events, alongside offering options for antagonists to interact with a high-authority figure. The Agents are the representatives of Central Command, and are used for exactly that in all manner of things, from writing faxes to the station, visiting the station for inspections, and helping to organise the Odin staff (Namely the Odin Troopers.) What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: Outside the server, Agents primarily deal with the logistics of Incident Reports. They analyse data, process interviews, and hand down punishments or praise, contacting players' characters through Discord and other social media in an ICly manner to aide in these tasks. Furthermore, CCIA Agents are known for organising canon events for players to take part in and enjoy, working tirelessly to organise things such as the Staff Calendar, Staff Beach Party, Staff Halloween Ball, and Staff Picnic, all of which are or were events that are in the official Aurora Canon. How do you handle stress?: I work in a UK Postal Office. This line of work is notorious for being one of the most difficult environments to work in, with queues often forming of twenty to thirty people in a matter of moments and customers being quick to cogitate and anger over the smallest things. My coworkers have denoted me as the member of staff who always seems to stay positive, often giving them the inspiration to continue on with their day. I always try to keep a smile on my face, and I'm even difficult to tilt despite being stuck in Bronze on LoL. How well do you work autonomously?: Working autonomously is something I need to improve on. I have been noted to struggle to keep focus on the task at hand at work, and mostly excel when interacting with people. Despite this, I believe I can produce the level of self-motivation required to fulfil this role as I truly do have a passion for working with and for people. Additional Notes: Antag ban has been lifted as of this edit.

BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Total Ban Length: Perma Banning staff member's Key: @Alberyk Reason of Ban: Taking a ghosted merc uplink to buy ammo for their am rifle, instead of waiting on staff to find a replacment. Reason for Appeal: I've taken a hiatus from the server for a short while, and recently came back. Rediscovered the joy of playing a non-antag role and I've not had any tickets at all since the ban (that I can think of). I'd love to be able to have the option to play traitor, merc, or raider occasionally as well as ERT/TCFL.

Spider's Command Whitelist Application
IAmCrystalClear replied to Spider's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
-1 Don't have an issue with the player. The character proposed promotes several issues, and my own character has had to nearly arrest them several times in canon rounds. It is nearly every round that Armstrong will ignore regulations to go and drink on shift. This would be picked up on ICly and the promotion would be held out of reach until the psychological issues are resolved. -
A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
Firstly, apologies for the hiatus from this thread. Secondly, I won't change my mind in this matter, I vastly dislike cloning for both mechanical and lore-based reasons. I have a personal belief that death should be more punishing, and that antags should have more options to be creative with how they can take people out the round. The robotics department is currently underused, which I personally believe leads to a lot of robotics players creating things such as mechs and rigs whenever they get the chance and excuse to, promoting validhunting and powergaming. Cloning is currently also underused, due to the immense complexity it requires to actually perform the cloning process. If we did have my way, death would be an in-round final end to a character, and cloning facilities would not exist full stop. This is another option that addresses multiple issues at once, and will indubitably come packaged with it's own. The merge itself would clearly have to be rigorously tested beforehand and use temporary merges along the way. A part of this thread is to get feedback, while another part of the thread is to find if developers are willing to make such a large change to the game on a whole without the promise of it being added. -
BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: Alberyk Reason of Ban: Taking a ghosted merc uplink to buy ammo for their am rifle, instead of waiting on staff to find a replacement. Reason for Appeal: I was being rash, the ban reason was stupid because I was being stupid. It's hard to really validate a "how have I improved" essay simply because it was a spur of the moment, and I am fully aware that everyone makes mistakes. I don't want to be unbanned immediately, but rather have the ban set to a timed ban of a reasonable amount. I was told that the ban would not be appeal-able "for a while" and I'm asking for a second judgement on when "a while" will have passed, as I believe it to be soon, but not today. It'd be nice to say that the Xth of Y will be the final day before being able to try out the gimmicks I have dreamt up.

A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
A major, key point of this system is that it makes death truly punishing, with different types of death having a real impact on the character in a way that can have long-term implications on them. The argument of "Unathi cannot be revived if missing a leg" is not only untrue, but also it allows for development of both the race and the character on a whole in a long term way; give them a leg anyway, as a mad scientist; maybe they are revived and tradition goes out the window, and the entire character is reformed; perhaps they go on to retire, bound to a wheelchair. Whatever, they are all RP options. This is also untrue. The mechanics behind the method of cloning should not be your sole drive to play a race of character. You play the race you play because the aesthetic appeals to you with their lore, design, and style. Remember that when an IPC body dies, the body is often in a state in which it cannot be repaired, but you do not see IPCs not being played because of this fact; people play the races they play because they enjoy them, not because of whether a certain mechanic is OP or not. -
A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
I, personally, believe that (arguably) the least played species being able to be revived more is totally acceptable over the current RNG you're deaf/mute/paralysed/randomly falling asleep every thirty seconds system we have in place. It's far easier to RP with out a leg or arm than it is to RP whilst randomly being unable to move, walk, talk, see, or hear. I'd rather have no legs and sit on a chair than be under fire from hallucinations all round. Remember that deaths, by the rules, are typically considered non-canon and thus, if you die and are revived, but your race/religion/species is against prosthetics, then you simply should sit through the round and return to full function in the next. All players who choose to have their characters be against prosthetics are doing just that; choosing. It is their choice, in it's entirety, that they will not be able to function fully on revival, and thus they need suffer the consequences. If you do not like that, don't impose that rule on yourself, or, even better; avoid dying and conflict that leads to dismemberment like any sane person should. -
A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
These are valid suggestions, however, many unathi are also against cloning in general. I, myself, play a Unathi who is against cloning, robotic limbs, and prosthetics in general and I simply think this'd deepen her character. Should she die and lose an arm, she will have to live with that, but can still be brought back. As far as I know, the most common way to die are by guns, ling horror forms, and cult swords. Two of those methods typically leave the body totally destroyed, and the other doesn't typically sever limbs. -
Staff Complaint - Alberyk
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
This is exactly the case. I walked up to them, took the radio, and used the TC. I would have gone the round without the AMR if needed, but a moment of stupidity made me use someone else's radio. The only complaint here is that the reason for the ban is inaccurate, and should be changed to a more accurate version, so it can be more truthful when I eventually appeal proper. -
BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Staff BYOND Key: Alberyk Game ID: Unknown. Reason for complaint: Reason for ban factually incorrect. Evidence/logs/etc: The quoted reason for the Permanent Antag Ban is "Taking a ghosted merc uplink to buy ammo for their am rifle, instead of waiting on staff to find a replacment", and while I can agree with the ban's reasoning, it is incorrect. The ban is for theft of TC, in order to buy AMR rounds for my rifle. I had, at this time, spent a total of 4 TC, and while this was from another player's radio, my radio was still full of TC, and I would have simply submitted four of my own for it had I been asked. A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
The initial mentioning of the method is "electro-shock revival". Autopsies would simply become rarer, and direct witness reports would be used more often as the victim is more likely to remember what happened. What I propose instead of the memory disorder in this case would be a traumatising where adrenaline and the pain of dying would lead to the victim being unable to remember the exact details of who attacked them, much like how an assaulted victim would be unable to remember the exact details of their death. Autopsies need a rework anyways, as they are extremely buggy and more often than not will only state the time of death. Currently the meta is that, if you want someone perma dead, you either gib them in a single shot, or remove the head and run off with it, so not much changes there. Bisecting people is rarer than being beheaded, but is now just as effective. Another thing, this suggestion also allows space for crew who have lost their lungs/heart/kidneys/etc have new, mechanical, implants. -
For a long time now, cloning has been a highly contested subject; many would like to see it gone, and many would like to see it made easier. I had a vision in my dreams, and it was a glorious vision of a new cloning system. First, I shall address the main gripes I've seen with cloning as is. I believe, after talking through with multiple players, cloning has the following issues. Currently, cloning requires a psychologist and a surgeon to be present due to the current trauma system, and is thus rarely used. This is particularly prevalent on lower pop rounds. For something so... Advanced, expensive, and new, it seems extremely commonplace, and just about anyone can be cloned, for free, on station with little regard to the actual lore. Contrary to the first mentioned point, the entire cloning system is capable of turning a complete recovery in less than a round, with the possibility of releasing a patient, fully functioning, in twenty minutes or less, depending on the case. Again, contrary to the third point, the cloning process can entirely remove someone from the round, preventing them from doing much more than be buckled to a bed and dragged around by an MD, sometimes unable to see or hear, stuck in a sort of limbo well-known to station-bound mains, broken and forgotten whilst still in the round. Cloning works for LRP. It means people can jump back in after death and keep playing. We are not LRP. We are a HRP server and cloning has been shoe-horned in, like many other features, and been adapted ghetto-style to fit the scene and thus, death has very little weight; a person can be turned into a gibbed mess, as long as the brain is fine they are able to be walking and talking within fifteen minutes. Now. My dream was of a world where there is no cloning, instead replacing it with a simpler system utilising a combination of the cryo-tubes currently used for genetic damage; it's weird how these tubes can regrow an entire person faster than they cure a ling-sting, and electro-shock revival. The general idea here is to not only increase the punishment for death, but also have more reason for bio mechanical engineers, make a more logical solution to reviving people than simply reprinting them, whilst also having a canon reason for why this is no longer the case. The steps would be as follows: The victim is slain, and the body recovered by medical. A triage is performed, records are checked for a DNR/DNC, and the body is inspected to see the cause of death, and what stages of revival are required. Provided the body has taken minimal damage, the body is revived via defibrillation, and the victim is treated of their wounds much like normal. If this is not possible, or if excessive damage has been sustained, perhaps from the vacuum of space or similar, the body is placed into a cryo-regenerative vat where a chemical mixture works to stabilise the body, where the body is capable of being revived. The victim is informed of the situation, and a psychological and physical review is performed. A key part here would mean that being killed in such a way that leaves a major organ of your body missing would mean you are unable to be revived, this means antags would no longer have to cut off the head of the hydra and run with it to keep someone out the round. This would also mean that losing limbs is suddenly far more of an issue: an engineer who passes in a freak accident involving their hand or arm being fried off now carries this wound even post-death. The officer with a pistol would be far less dangerous in the long-term than the ninja who is about to remove your arms with an esword, but the ninja who does this now suddenly involves robotics AND medical, should the victim fall dead. This can be easily explained in canon as a more economical method of resurrection than flat-out cloning, which was deemed simply too expensive in comparison to other, simpler methods. Cloning would thus be reserved for only the most extreme cases, and still be relevant in the meta lore. In my discussions with other players, @GreenBoi suggested an alternative, in their own, glorious image. In their version, the cloning bay is reworked into a sub-department of medical, and begins the round with a digital "DNA Vault" of every crew member on shift. The cloning system is then based on this database, and crew are able to be cloned, without a body, from the database, provided they have an active blood sample from the deceased. This would need to be obtained at the start of each round from high-risk crew, for a reason similar to the blood sample deteriorating too quickly to be held across multiple shifts. This means, with the exemption of crew who are deemed high-risk, including miners, security, and science teams, crew would become unclonable without a body to sample the blood from. They also suggested that the cloning vat, when emagged, be capable of producing malformed clones with reduced health every X minutes, despite the sample of the clone still being alive, requiring a ghost to possess them lest they collapse in a heap of guts and goop, similar to summoning apparitions, or creating golems. They proposed that the trauma list be kept, but reduced down to the following possibilities; -Bluespace Prophet -Split Personality -Hallucination -Headache (not concussion) -Phobia -Imaginary Friends -Colorblindness -Tourettes. To finalise their suggestion, they summarised with the following quote.

BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Game ID: b1J-aEF1 (Complaint made about round before) Player Byond Key: Azazy (Playing "Longshot") Staff involved: N/A Reason for complaint: This was the third raider round in a row, so we unanimously decided that we'd do a peaceful visitor round. After some ideas are thrown around, @kyres1suggests we be a shuttle hailing from the Scarab fleet, taking a shortcut to regroup with the primary fleet, and that we are landing to eat/drink/resupply with the intent to have individual stories to drive, for example, myself, "The Hammer", and his partner "The Anvil" being fleeing Guwan from Moghes due to an unapproved relationship. We arrive, and security agrees that we can keep our weapons provided they are kept holstered at all times, and that we store our only "primary" weapon, an e-rifle held by "Longshot", back on our shuttle, we agree. However, despite agreeing to these terms, Longshot now proceeds to leave the area, and wander off on his own, totally unheard until later on in the shift, apart from in reports about him breaking and entering into the science department, asking suspicious questions, and refusing to stow the gun. We now RP with security and crew alike, trading resources and talking, as we prepare for our next jump. Suddenly, an announcement is made over the PA system, that multiple BS Signatures had been detected headed our way. This is when "Longshot" finally talks over comms, saying that he has "called in the fleet", and that they will be with us shortly. We play along, and security is now obviously on edge. At some point, it's now assumed that "Longshot" has made open hostilities against crew, and security is, obviously, blaming the rest of our shuttle's crew for their actions. About a half hour after the first BSS announcement, a new one is made. It has now been decided, with no prior AOOC talk, discussion, or even mentioning, that the BS Signatures enroute are actually hundreds of highly armed warships, and that the Odin is attempting to engage. At this point, an inter-galatic war has now broken out, the Scarabs are now openly at war with Tau Ceti, with no escalation other than "security is trying to pick fights" being said over the radio. They now, while we are trying to defuse the situation, and succeeding, speed past on a space bike, flank security, throw a grenade, and open fire on them. They then flee, and return, throwing an EMP grenade this time, emping all of security and the entire crew of their own shuttle, disabling everyone involved, causing security to shoot the fleeing crew, and nearly killing @kyres1. This is where I now chase down the man, beating his skull in with my hammer, and leaving him to die out on the rocks as punishment for literally starting an intergalactic war with no reason. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, this was a round-long issue, and deserved more of a general complaint to the round, not any individual action. Approximate Date/Time: 13/06/19, roughly 2:00BST-4:30BST

Staff Complaint - Drwago
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Perfection in a bottle. Requesting this complain be closed and archived. -
BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Staff BYOND Key: Drwago Game ID: b1y-dBWA Reason for complaint: Invalid prosecution and enforcement of rules. Evidence/logs/etc: To begin, I will cite a simple explanation of the events that transpired prior to the bwoink as I interpreted them. Roughly twenty minutes into the round, an announcement was made saying all funds had been suspended due to suspicious activity; this in itself was as such, and it was found the HoP was in fact illegally siphoning the funds. After a lengthy, half hour search turned up dry, with several reports of explosions, assaults, and possible murder in the time I searched, my HoS stated I was reassigned to looking for a new black suited hostile capable of teleportation and attempting to kidnap crew whilst threatening to decapitate them. I received no standing orders following the fact, and continued these until it was revealed the armoury had been raided. Hearing this, combined with that tools were being handed out as the HoP had a lethal weapon that was out of my authorisation to even know the basis of, I went to engineering to get a crossbow, capable of pinning the hostile that'd i'd now visually confirmed could teleport, and a spear for should I need something else to defend myself with. I found and "...arrested the man wearing the suit.", who claimed to be an outsourced NT worker working on the solars. His ID matched that that I saw earlier, and he was in the same area. He'd fallen, and was badly injured, so I "...Took him to robotics to remove the suit, took the suit and the man to medical to be treated..." I then informed medical to bring the man back to security when he was healed. next, I "...headed to security to offload the suit..." This is when, following his story about a contractor, and repeatedly being ignored by other members of security over comms "...looked to see modules to check man's story to check validity..." and discovered a e-sword, thermals, and the teleporting module, this next part is where I, admittedly, slipped in judgement. I next "...walked back to see man to take to security..." having not taken off the suit, which was where the mistake was, "...bumped into the HoS on the way. and asked if we could use the suit..." I'd informed the HoS had thermals, meaning the HoP would be far easier to track down, who'd eluded us from the thirty minute mark until the 1:45 mark. This is where I was bwoinked. At the time, I'd been wearing the suit for enough time to see the modules and walked from the security locker room to the north wall of the elevators, where the HoS would be found talking to the previously mentioned roboticist. I was informed this was attempting to validhunt, yet I feel all my actions (excusing not taking off the suit before leaving the brig once more) can be validated with IC reasoning and backing. The round was utter chaos at this point, with multiple explosive-related deaths, and suspect on the run, having used lethals to escape. I'd like to note I did NOT use the suit for anything more than showing to the warden that it had a lethal weapon attached to it. Additional remarks: I was informed of a Spacer event in which a Warden tried on a Spacer hardsuit after it'd been captured. They received no punishment for these actions, barring an explosion killing him. I tried on the hardsuit to check the modules, and did nothing but check the modules. I took the crossbow when faced with no other option for a weapon, and never returned to the brig until the hostile I'd been ordered to capture had been captured, thus never getting a chance to trade out the weapon. It's also important here to note that the Warden in this round used the suit I was ordered to give them by the HoS to cloak-teleport into a hostile shuttle an execute those within with little to no reason; Drwago dealt with this matter as would be expected. I would also like to note that this is validhunting, clear as day. Drwago dealt with this case perfectly, this is not necessarily a complaint about the staff memeber, but rather a disagreement with the punishment handed down. Drwago also dealt with this particular situation well, but did not get the finer details and thus executed judgement wrongly.
