@DeadLantern She worked hard for a certain man. She wanted a certain man's love. Another man came in and claimed her, and her father sold out to the wealthier side in hope of more money and power, apologies if that isn't clear enough but if multiple people express that as a concern I can rewrite the story. If you think I'm playing this for the "underdog" card, you're mistaken, and because of such a statement I don't think you've interacted with my characters enough to know I'm most known to play normal people; is it wrong of me to want to do a new character? Fleshing out a character comes with roleplay, I have a backstory and a temperament set out, their story will continue from there, as all my characters have done. Thanks for an in depth review though, I appreciate something more than "Good RP +1".

BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Character Names: Alice Gough, Pheobe Rook, Detective, Cecillia Star Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I really enjoy interacting with most Unathi players. Particularly the Guwan concept interests me, and having read through the lore page, I find my love of the caste system portrayed in their story. The new race, the Aut'akh, seems somewhat interesting as an extreme counter to the traditional, Hegemonic Unathi. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi are a very cultural, traditional race. Similar in many respects to a medieval system, the majority of Unathi are considered lesser, by definition of name and status, than others, the more well-off demanding respect and tribute from their subjects. However, there are other sides of this story, with the Quorian Unathi having experienced a democracy and have then been subjugated and thus forming a more "socially acceptable" mentality within human space. Traditional Unathi also suffer more from cold temperatures and can deal more effectively with heat. They have a stronger base attack, capable of using claws. There are many, obvious physical cues Unathi use emotionally, where an angry human would shout, a Unathi would thrash their tail against the ground and when anxious, they would hiss or sway. Character Name: Kiza Heshaii Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs. Kiza was not more than a typical Unathi woman; raised in an Moghean village, she spent her youth learning to cook and clean, and her brief adulthood cleaning and cooking. Through her childhood, she often found herself focusing on the art of dance, basking in the eyes of the suitors of the village. At the age of fourteen, Kiza found herself obsessing over her practice, having firmly settled her gaze on a young male who she'd been raised side by side with. Her dances became swordplay, and indeed she caught the eyes of the men. Twelve days before her eighteenth, her village was graced with a powerful visitor, their Lord toured from village to village, collecting debts and taxes from his subjects. With the lord came a second guest, and the village once more put on a dance, women of all ages attempting to win the eye of the Lord's son. Kiza, infatuated with her childhood love forced herself to work, desperate to use grace and wit to finally win his heart before she came of age. Suitors came to her father, begging for her hand, and her beloved was one of them. In the days following her eighteenth she was wed to the Lord's son, and for four long years she worked under him, cursing her father, her love, and her husband for what they'd done. Five years passed before Kiza finally gave up. It was a simple decision. Whilst her husband slept, she cooked and she cleaned, giving the house one final touch. She cooked his favourite meal, tidied even the hardest places to reach. Then, she left. She wasn't going home: taking on a new name, she fled through the next shuttle to Tau Ceti. Spinning tales of abuse and neglect, she weaselled into society, soon after scoring a new job on the Aurora. What do you like about this character? I massively enjoy playing the underdog in a society of belittled women. Playing a Man-eating Guwan woman would allow me to create a character so different from my normal designs and I cannot wait. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I like to think I'm better than most, and not ashamed to admit it. My roleplay ability ranges from a 7/10 to a 9/10. Notes: Let me know if there are bits to touch up on, it's 2:30am as I write this. Edit: Unboldified. Edit II: Really unbodified now. Edit III: Backstory edited.

Player Complaint - TheOrleans
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
0 - Both victims came in willingly, and seemed to be enjoying it until you knocked one out and the other was totally ignored due to the fact you were constantly beating on everyone. 1 - In this part I was talking about the Tajara, who's name I forget. I repeatedly tried to talk to them and they repeatedly made it clear they were not allowed to talk. They later died after being knocked out from you draining them. 2 - You never uttered a word of releasing them, instead randomly calling me insane shortly after, and even brought more victims IN to the room after I told you to leave. 3 - Didn't see HOW you made them come into the room, but I told Harper to leave so that she wouldn't get involved in the mess that was quite insane at this point. Either way you stripped them, and Rosetango, the player of this character, even suggested I make this complaint. 4 - I here quote "Aimee, why don't we make them like us?" to which I replied "No, that just means Aimee has to fight more people." which happened RIGHT at the start when we simply had three. If you wanted to release them, why did you leave them unconscious on the floor after I was contacted by Yoni suggesting to release them and tried to do so; you attacked me when I tried. 5 - If someone does not want to be a thrall, that is their choice. You should respect that, certain people don't like playing antags and would rather be buckled to a chair with their own free will than a slave to some ganking dick. Don't take the gank personally, as I'm not saying you were. 6 - You embraced Ly, I get that. Cool, you released them; I only embraced them because they told me they don't want to sit buckled to a chair and I needed a hand with maintaining the other hostages and dealing with you. You also expressed wishes to rule the station, and made an army to do so; these are facts that you have just agreed to. If they didn't want to join your army, for example, the Tajaran, you left them to die. 7 - I never saw Albert fire, Albert didn't even know what had happened when he was revived. You went into the armoury, grabbed all the lethals you could find, ions, laser rifles, carbines, and armour, and opened fire with lethals against the crew. You could of used stun, like they were using, but instead you nearly killed a further two players while screaming you are innocent. The innocent man never goes down fighting. You were defending yourself from security who was coming to detain you for multiple counts of kidnapping and murder. 8 - B-4 was simply trying to treat the dead and dying, you were in their way too. You assaulted them and they, as far as I know, did nothing in return instead of continue to attempt to treat the wounded. In summary, me, personally? I agree that some stuff I did was poor, but I also only acted to try and further RP with the crew, like both Harper and the Tajaran will be able to attest to. Understand that there were weapons on the side, I even left a welder with a mask there. The room was designed so that they could plot and escape on purpose so that people didn't have to just be buckled to a chair. Sadly I was forced to stay in the room all round as I had to deal with a certain Warden who was abusing my blood farm. -
Thanks Chada1, that's perfect and exactly what I was looking for.

BYOND Key: iamcrystalclear Game ID: bXs-amwh Player Byond Key: TheOrleans Staff involved: No Reason for complaint: It's hard to explain: a mix between powergaming, needless killing, and being a general dick. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, we couldn't place a ruling on it at the time. Approximate Date/Time: 2:40-3:40am GMT 22/11/2018 It all started with my vampire gimmick being a small chamber in which I held captives for feeding. I was trying to provide enough RP for them to stay interesting, while still furthering my antag goals. About twenty minutes into this, the player in question arrives outside my chamber unknowingly, I notice them down another player and as such I offer to let them use my chamber. Some time passes and the player in question leaves, coming back shortly after with another victim, who has been dominated in such a way that they are not allowed to utter a single word for the rest of the shift. The player in question repeatedly bites the victims despite my protests, and sends two of them into a state of unconsciousness for roughly half an hour, one of which dies because of it. At this point, the room is so filled that I ask them to leave, and to leave my farm alone, when another player arrives, who they dominate, bring into the room, subdue, and then the player struggles, so they wordlessly thrall them. Shortly after this they continue to drain the players until they reach max strength, where they repeatedly demand we release all the victims, enthralling them and taking over the station, which i say no with the wisdom that several players present do not WANT to be thralls. They then decide to retaliate by repeatedly stunning everyone in the room, dominating me to prevent me from struggling, and then draining me to death. They then proceed to start mass-turning everyone present, running when security arrives, going straight to the armoury screaming "I'm innocent it was her it was her", and gearing up with lethals and attempting to murder every sec officer present, and ioning a borg to an inch of it's life. Before this they'd also meleed a borg to a point that they became blind, and unable to save the lives of further crew. People involved in this mess were: FreshRefreshmentsmwhit030RosetangoIron ChaosComradeCorbynYonnimer (was observing)

Why do I get a popup when I click "adjust mask" that allows me to select any character on my screen? Why does it have it's own "Commands" tab? The verb is unpolished, can we move it into "objects" and make it only apply to yourself? EDIT: The popup would make sense if I could adjust someone else's mask, but I can't, so why is it there?

(Not sure if this is the right place, shopped around for a while to no avail) Ok so there's a few weird things with how we process jobs on the wiki. Specifically, we seem to have a few odd cases with requirements for different roles, alongside a few very outdated jobs (geneticist is still on the wiki, for example). Literally all I'm suggesting is that we tweak a few roles to be clearer, for example, under current wiki guidelines, you must be 25 years of age, and have an applicable PhD to take on the role of Lab Assistant. These requirements are also the same to be a fully fledged scientist. Another key example is the Warden, which requires either 7 years prisoner management experience (understandable), or a PhD in criminal forensics; My FT character, Alice Gough, the stuttering, frail young woman trained to do autopsies, is a fully trained Warden. The Warden should really be a role based on trust; 4 years experience under NanoTrasen Security Teams, brief course in prisoner management, and a clean security record. This role is one of dealing with the contents of the armoury, and managing the brig, which requires a lot of trust to do. Assistant roles should be changed to be more suitable to students in training as an internship for the role: Engineering Assistants might be doing a course to learn engineering practically under guidance in a work environment. Lab Assistant could be the same. We already have Medical Intern, which really is what the other assistant roles should be. EDIT: It was brought to my attention that security cadet has the same issue.

It's insanely weird that we only have access to straights without hydroponics. Hardly anyone smokes straights these days.

Staff Complaint - Queen of Yugoslavia
IAmCrystalClear replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I admitted that FT is irrelevant in 90% of rounds and that I try to involve myself by playing a backline support. I still do not believe this warning was required when people can get away with rushing the teleporting ninja with an ion gun to shut them down. I never said that I wanted to be involved in combat, I said I want to have an impact on the round as security without playing an ungabunga security officer. Frankly, if you're going to tell me to demote my most developed character out of her /entire/ gimmick, then you may as well ban me from the role and force my hand. Once again, an officer would never be scrutinised for taking a laser rifle to kill a teleporting human that has committed several instances for grievous bodily harm, yet I, as an FT, whilst the entire security team was busy trying to assist in protecting the crew, am told I should of been job banned for attempting to get my hands on the equivalent of a laser rifle to use on a teleporting dionae that has committed several accounts of grievous bodily harm with the intent to give it to an officer. Maybe that explanation makes more sense? -
BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Staff BYOND Key: QueenOfYugoslavia Game ID: bWN-dhX7 Reason for complaint: Invalid warning Evidence/logs/etc: https://gyazo.com/bfb14009ec9b39e8c23d4ddcff0d2fc6 (these are the only "logs" i have. I closed byond with no intention to open it for a long while) Additional remarks: This round was infuriating. After joining and being told there was a hostile dionae capable of teleporting. I suggested using a chemical capable of killing it, as I knew laser guns would be nearly useless. I told the team I'd get some, went to chemistry, and asked for some. They were cool with it, if I got the RD's approval. I didn't, fair enough. Now, the dionae had stabbed an officer, and was actively avoiding security. It would next steal a laser carbine, and then the captain's laser, and continue to avoid security. I was told it was repeatedly using a player as a beacon, and told that character to remain still whilst i used Plant-b-gone to attempt to cripple the teleporting wizard. I did so, it didn't help. Now, the wizard would teleport near me, and open fire upon me several times, aiming for the head, and making me pass out in crit. They also shot several people around me too. The RD continued to refuse me the chemical, and I continued to ask, getting more and more desperate to take down the person who'd nearly killed me. Initially this was a backup plan in case negotiations went south. Negotiations had now gone south, and we needed it. With security tied up attempting to lock down the dionae to zero success, I took it upon myself to secure a real weapon whilst the rest of the team distracted the hostile. Now, the hostile had breached the core, and subverted the AI, leading to another near-death of a third officer when a borg opened fire upon them. I continued to attempt to obtain the drug to no success, and decided to call an ERT. Shuttle was now called, but I was in the Captain's office, with the Captain's spare. Understand that I was continuously being hailed by the mod in question, and repeatedly explaining my actions, explaining how it wasn't validhunting. At the end of the round, I recieve a final hail, and after a lengthy discussion, I was given a warning, for validhunting which told me to do the following things: reread the CSI guide, and retire my character to a cadet or assistant role. I personally disagree with this warning for obvious reasons. I even explained how the logic of "get an ion, the IPC is trying to kill people!" and "get a lasergun, the human is trying to kill people!" is not validhunting, but "get the plant-spray, the plant is trying to kill people!" is. In my head, that's the logic there. Command was working against me that round for logical, IC reasons, and I reacted with logical, IC reactions. This round has caused me to lose faith in aurora, as I've received many warnings for "improper escalation" doing the exact things that others appear to get away with scotch free. I'm taking a break.

That's more like it. Unsure how we'd work it into the off-station antags, though. Figure it out and you're golden. +1

-1 This is primarily used for kidnapping. Understand that the moment you use this item, medical knows. The oxyloss practically raises alarmbells in medical. It's single use. It's close range. It's blocked by gloves, blocked by masks, blocked by clothes. It's designed for a single purpose; to get the jump on someone without them being able to react. This item is already balanced. If you're actually looking to reliably stun someone, use a dart gun. Use force gloves. Use wrestling books. Furthermore, changing an entirely unused chemical for the purpose of nerfing a single one-use item seems a bit over the top. Zombie Powder requires carpotoxin. It's nigh impossible to get.
-
If this is the case. It is 100% required that it is bound to a role. Similar to how an officer can start with a holster, but an engineer can't. Another issue with this is the fact we may be giving players the ability to spawn in with enhancements over other people. Big enhancements, such as toolbelts. Toolbelts are kinda rare.
-
I like this idea, I really do. It makes sense in our lore, and it actually is in our lore, with both the Vox and the Vaurca using cybernetic modification heavily. There's an issue though. It's much the same as the issue that occurred with the suggestion of making IPCs more specialised. In that thread specifically, there was mention of the Zeng-hu frame being able to access an internal syringe. It was mentioned that this would make them extremely overpowered. The issue is, people will use this to powergame. We will see hulking security officers with heat-seeking eyes, diamond-laced bones, and carbonised skin. We will see engineers with insulated hands, toolbelts for fingers, and meson eyes. I hate to say it, but maybe Citadel/Vore has it right on this with the NIFsoft idea. At the start of every shift players can choose to install NIFsofts into their brain, such as reactive lenses, PDA messenger apps, or even nanites that help slow down death by bleedouts. These would need to be expensive though, and have significant drawbacks, for example, where being ioned with mechanical eyes gives you blindness, the same should happen to those with any form of lense-based NIF. Being shot in the head should give a chance to destroy the NIF, causing massive damage to the brain, perhaps frying to a point of being unable to be cloned. I love this idea you're suggesting, but you need to consider how antags would suffer, too. My suggestion with the NIF idea is that traitor uplinks could be outfitted with a NIF option of each set of glasses, having the same drawback as the other NIF lenses. Work on the idea some more, you have my vote.

Remove changelings experiencing pain/paralysis/stuns in general
IAmCrystalClear replied to kyres1's topic in Archive
This is a clear +1 A simple, effective way of allowing the ling kit to be explored more freely, without having a ling rely on "bullshit" gank methods such as silence stings. Another suggestion would be make them more RESISTANT to stuns and pain. In the same way it takes time for them to reconstruct their genome after transforming, recovering from multiple electrical shocks should be rough. I've had dozens of round end simply because I am repeatedly stunned-cuffed as ling is arguably the ONLY killing antag with no built in access to armour. Cult gets robes, vampires don't need to kill unless they are cornered, mercs get voidsuits, traitors get access to heavy armour kits, revs have the ability to multiply very rapidly (and that round type rarely truly involves killing), wizard gets heals and a voidsuit and a pain-immune form, ninja can teleport and has armour, and lastly, raiders get voidsuits/whatever they spawn with. Ling has nothing like this except it's horror form, which has a long cool down and is very difficult to pull off. Ling may have stasis and rapid regen, but that means nothing when the only antag entirely forced to go full-melee to be able to down someone (without the ranged death/paralysis sting, which I've never seen pulled off) has no inbuilt defence against a single prod to the head. I don't know, give them cool-down tramadol or something. Give them heavy armour suit valued armour. Give them /something/ to make them robust against stuns, but not something that makes them OP. Again, +1. This is the smartest, simplest ling rework I've seen suggested. Even as a temp fix for a full rework. -
Nerf the Statue time to 1 minute
IAmCrystalClear replied to Butterrobber202's topic in Completed Projects
Had rounds where this happened to me, I came out the statue to be immediately statued again. I was ninja in this round, so you gotta imagine the frustration I had when the wizard called security and spam-statued me. -
+1 Yes, we need this. Along these lines maybe we could rework the "dry rag" meta, where you can use a chem-rag on disarm intent aimed for the head/mouth as you would for a throat-slit with a knife on harm. For reference, currently, aiming for the mouth with a dry rag will instantly inject 5u of whatever chem you have in the rag as long as they don't have a mask on, it's hilariously broken when you consider you can literally instantly inject chloral into anyone without any build-up.

I wish I had sprites, but frankly I don't even know how to make them.
-
I get it, it's 2500 and we don't want to offend anyone. We get the cool Null staff, the awesome Null rod, and the OP(citation needed) Null athame, but should that really be all? Specifically, I'm asking for a Null Crucifix, because Space Jesus is a thing, and we need him in our lives. It'd be a nice depth-enhancing item that catholic priests/nuns/whatever can use to feel like they aren't carrying around a huge, weird staff. Rosary Beads and other similar things would be cool, too. Not just for Christians, but the ability to expand each faith with more interesting items. Tl/dr: Add Null Crucifix option to null item list.
-
I get the whole armour thing. But I'd hate to have to start walking around in stolen armour every time I role any antag role simply so I can survive more than one baton prod. Think of it less of "improper escalation" and more of "improper deescalation". It's the simple fact that entire antag gimmicks, entire rounds can be shut down by a single baton prod. Think about rev; unless the crew actively hunts for armour, security can and will beat their asses without even having to grab a gas mask. While I appreciate the fact that yes, being prodded with an electrified metal rod does hurt and that we are a HRP server, we also have antags and need to appreciate balance. I'm worried the meta will become "take a revolver or tommygun and instantly shoot the leg off of anyone who comes within two tiles" for tators, and "only take blinding stings and para-stings" for ling.
-
My main concern is the amount of times I've been shut down as traitor, ling, and vampire because of a single baton prod. Even with the ling shield it's still REALLY powerful.
-
A single stunbaton prod is an instant K-O. Nothing melee is viable because of this. Fix it. Nerf it. Make it three, like it used to be. Edit: They also go through hostage-shields. As in, a shield the size of an entire person.
-
Since joining the server I've been in several hostage situations. Hostages are something I feel Aurora deals with poorly. I plan to change that. With that in mind, this is a brief guide to three things: being a hostage, taking hostages, and how to deal with other people taking them. Playing the Hostage. Taking Hostages. Dealing with Hijackings, Hostage Taking, and Kidnappings as Security.
