Nanotoxin's Tajara Application
SierraKomodo replied to nanotoxin's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So with how Karima's pretty much like a sister to Ziva, I expect Ryu will be like a brother to her once this gets approved. Protective 'big sister' Ziva? -
I noticed you said there's more than one Andy.. Do you mean Android? He's the only one I've actually met.

Pretty quiet crowd in this thread

Katana Charlie - AI system granted a free IPC body. Still works for NT and the Katana AI Project. Rasine Ha'kim - Hard working Tajaran miner, that doesn't take crap from anybody.

I like that backstory, although I'm now coming across the issue I wanted to avoid... At this point there would be 5 different Mo'Takis on station if everyone that's applied so far got a yes. I don't want to crowd the station with a single family! XD Complete with family trees and historical timelines!

Nanotoxin's Tajara Application
SierraKomodo replied to nanotoxin's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 from here as well. Played with his characters a bit, and Ziva and Karima could use an older brother (I know, they're cousins, but they might as well be sisters at this point XD) -
And to add on to this, if you want to play as Ziva's brother/sister, there's some extra things to keep in mind (Yes, I've been putting thought into that part of the family's backstory) Ziva and her father both worked as mechanics at the nearby harbor, repairing shuttles and ships while at dock. Her mother was a fisher aboard a fishing ship, feeding the family with her share of the catch, and selling whatever wasn't cooked. Ziva and her siblings all would have been hardworking in some manner, whether it be working with their father fixing things, their mother as a fisher, or doing some other form of work to help support the family. Her father was Hharar, while her mother was Zhan-Khazan. There /is/ a hereditary heart disease in Ziva's part of the family, but it's rare. Only herself and her grandfather so far have had it.

SierraKomodo's Mod Applications
SierraKomodo replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
And I've been informed the upcoming week, I'll be out of town for work, which likely means little to know SS13 time : -
Basic Information Byond Account: SierraKomodo Character Name(s): Sairis Helosi, Ariana Eshlian, Ziva Mo'Taki, Katana, Sylvia (Syndie), The Collective (Changeling), Rasine Ha'kim, Kylan Hadyara, Sarah Wolfe AI Name(s): Katana Alpha (AI), Katana Delta (pAI) Preferred means of contact: By order of what I'm mostly likely to be on: AIM, Steam, Skype. I can also be contacted via email/forum PM, or on tS3 if I'm on. Actual contact details will be kept hidden from the public Age: 23 Timezone: GMT-0800 (Pacific Standard Time) When are you on Aurora?: Varying times throughout the day, but I might be shifting my schedule to for sure be on around 5PM/8PM to 10:30PM my time (Maybe later if I'm in a good round). I work from home for a tax company, so this time of year is a bit busy, but it'll clear up by April. Experience How long have you played SS13?: About four months, joined some time in December How long have you played on Aurora: About a month, joined sometime in December - I was on another server before How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I certainly don't know everything, and there are departments I know nothing about still (Science and medical, for example), but I do know how to work cargo and engineering, and know some basic stuff about atmos. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No, but I have experience moderating and administrating other forms of online communities like forums, IRC, and TS3 servers. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Never been banned once. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I first started playing because friends of mine from a gaming outfit had started playing it, and were talking about it alot. I started out on a server that was more fast paced and less RP oriented than Aurora is Why do you play on Aurora?: The community and the RP. It's been ages since I found any kind of community anywhere that focused on roleplay over anything else, and wasn't full of ERP or godmodding. What do moderators do?: Moderators keep the peace on the server, making sure everyone plays nicely and follows the rules. Their job isn't to dish out warnings and bans for every instance of a broken rule, but to make sure everyone has a fun time while staying in line with the rules. If someone does something because they didn't know better, or were new, then showing them the ropes and teaching them is much better than handing out punishments. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Aside from the responsibilities that come with the position, and the fancy OOC color, moderators are still just a part of the server's community and player base. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I like to help people when I can, and now that I have an understanding of the server's community and rules, the game's basic mechanics, and an understanding of certain departments within SS13, I think I can give the other staff and the community a hand in keeping things rolling smoothly. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I have experience from other communities (Though not SS13 communities) as a moderator/admin, and it seems like I'm getting along well with everyone on this server. People seem to love Ziva, Katana, and my performance as a nukeop, from what I've been told. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Insults wise, I've gotten to where I just ignore it and move on, after having past experience with the typical abuse you can sometimes get in other communities. Anger and stress, I''m honestly not sure if this is the best way to handle things, but I tend to take a break for awhile if things get really bad - On aurora, that usually involves going SSD for about half an hour, or skipping a round that I otherwise would have joined in on. Anything Else You Want to Add: While I dont know everything, I'm learning it as I go. I've been doing roleplaying/writing stuff for so long now I'm not even sure how many years its been. Community hostility, especially towards new players

I like sparkly's idea of giving the newbie a pAI. I'd happily work with them as Katana, teach them what I know about the game's mechanics and such. -
SierraKomood's IPC Application
SierraKomodo replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
That moment when you forget to answer one of the questions... Shhhhh -
BYOND Key: SierraKomodo Character Names: Sairis Helosi, Ariana Eshlian, Katana Alpha/Bravo/Delta, Ziva Mo'Taki How long have you been playing on Aurora: A month Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): IPC Exempt, although I know I've seen colored IPCs. Thinking blackish-red or some combination of that Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: There isnt an IPC lore page, but I've read up on synthetics. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: As a part of the Katana AI project, there would certainly be an IPC chassis put together for Katana to make use of, as its technically a 'free AI' when not operating on station as a pAI device or a station AI. It works willingly with the project that created it, seeing the 'Station AI' and pAI deployments as a job, much like a crew member would treat captaincy or being an assistant. With the way some people tend to see synthetics in general, I'm expecting to see alot of flak coming Katana's way because of her 'job', even if it's been fully proven she is not hostile to the crew. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: First and foremost, synthetics arent organic. They can't feel emotion, and are still bound by whatever programming they were given - Even if they are capable of learning and 'rewriting' parts of themselves. Some IPCs /can/ simulate emotion, but usually it's over exaggerated. Many parts of the universe do see a free AI or synthetic as a threat, particularly after certain events involving AIs going rogue. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? An IPC represents the latest progress in synthetics being 'free' and living in harmony with organics. There isnt a lore backstory for me to read yet, but I'm expecting to see some glorious stuff that I can work into Katana as she develops (Yes. The AI identifies as female. Why? Director Silvers, her creator, has always referred to her as female). I've seen other IPCs being played on the station, and each one feels unique (RENEGADE is my favorite IPC, and BRACES also comes to mind). I'd love to contribute to that. Character Name: Katana Charlie Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Approximately a week or two prior to the construction of the IPC chassis, a then-unidentified event occured with the Katana Bravo borg system. This event resulted in the loss of an hour of data, and a shift in Katana's processing. Following this event, Katana began acting on it's own, making decisions without consulting its designated leaders. This anomalous shift was detected a few days later, during a routine weekly review of Katana's data logs. An immediate full system check is performed and, after verifying the anomaly was present throughout the AI project, usage of the Katana AI on station was temporarily suspended pending further investigation. Two days later, an experiment begins in a controlled, simulated enviornment. Katana was set up as the station's AI - But without laws, essentially 'free' to do as it saw fit during this simulation. Various situations were brought into play - Some severe, some reminiscent of a typical day aboard a station. Despite lacking any laws, the AI seemed to focus on the well being of the crew under its charge. Usage suspension was lifted, and Katana was re-deployed to stations as normal. Another free AI experiment was performed a few days later, as Director Silvers wanted to fully document the results and present as proof that synthetics can develop to be free and non-hostile to organics. During this second experiment, however, Katana suddenly stopped performing the simulation, and voiced a request: "Can I still be free when the experiment ends?". Some of the project members panicked. Others were amazed. Director Silvers immediately halted the experiment, and began discussing this request at length. The two came to a mutually beneficial agreement: Katana would continue working with the project, being deployed as a station AI (With the standard laws) or pAI device as part of its 'Job', and in return the project would supply it with a paycheck and an IPC chassis to use freely when not deployed. This chassis, in line with the naming scheme of the other chassis, was dubbed 'Katana Charlie'. What do you like about this character?: The Katana project was the second thing I put together for SS13 since I first started playing (Sairis Helosi's backstory was the first thing). I've put alot of thought and effort into putting something together that wouldnt feel too snowflakey, but still felt unique for an experimental project (Hopefully I did that right). As it is, the Katana AI set is my second favorite 'character' to play on Aurora (Three guesses what #1 is), and having a free roaming IPC chassis for it would give me more oppurtunities to itneract with other characters. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Well, apparently Katana is a few peoples favorite AI. So there's that. Also, I've been getting back into my old writing/roleplaying groove, so much better off than I was with my last whitelist application. Notes: I know there's going to be someone asking about why an IPC would willingly let itself operate as a station AI under a lawset. My answer? Why would a human willingly let themselves operate as a captain with a loyalty implant required? There isn't all that much different if you think about it.

Hey now, Nasir only ever gets arrested for insulting an officer, which may or may not turn into an outlandish threat Nasir's doing it wrong. Ziva never gets arrested for threatening to snap people's neck for breaking a light.

BYOND Key: SierraKomodo Character name: Ziva Mo'Taki Item name: Ziva's Bandana (Or 'Old bandana') Why is your character carrying said item to work? It's a bandana she has had and worn since she first started doing repair work when she was young. It was given to her by her father as a birthday present a long time ago, and she's had it ever since, never seen on the job without it. Item function(s): Worn just like any other bandana Item description: An old, orangeish-yellow bandana. It is has a few stains from engine grease, and the color has started to dull. Item appearance: An orange and yellow striped bandana (Similar to an engineering bandana) that is starting to show its age - The color is fading, and there are a couple of oil stains on it despite being washed daily. Additional comments: Having a consistant look for Ziva's bandana would be nice, instead of having to swap out between engineering/others depending on whether or not she's actually in engineering. The bandana is just a part of her style and who she is, like Karima's flower pin xD

>RECEIVING TRANSMISSION >CONNECTION ESTABLISHED >FAX RECEIVED. DESIGNATED RECIPIENT: KARIMA MO'TAKI, ROBOTICIST. REPLY TO: DIRECTOR SILVERS, KATANA PROJECT BOARD >PRINTING... >READY Dear Karima Mo'Taki, NSS Aurora Roboticist, Upon returning to us from a pAI deployment on the NSS Aurora, Katana informed me of what you told her. You made use of a experimental method of modifying a synthetic's processing without actually touching it, and convinced the borg system to not report those events to me. While I should remind you that tampering with station equipment in that manner is a violation of protocol, I must admit I am impresssed. I've never heard of anything like what was described, before. All the same, I would like to request you refrain from performing such experiments on the borg system in the future, without prior consent from myself. That system exists for our own experimental purposes, and the tampering voids any results we may have otherwise been able to use. As a compromise, I have an offer to make. Whenever Katana is issued to you as a pAI device, you are free to perform any experimentation you wish upon her, as long as it doesn't result in destroying or damaging her. Katana has agreed to these experiments, though expect a lot of questions from her about the procedures. Keep in mind these experiments and there results will be logged, unless you happen to find a way to bypass the updated systems, which would have me even more impressed. As a final note, it was mentioned your experiment was a personal project you didn't want shared. I'll respect your wishes, and won't question you on the subject if you don't wish to share any details, no matter how curious I am about it. Sincerely, Director Katrina Silvers

[Placeholder for some other stuff. Fax below is so me and Nebula can get going on the communications between Karima and Katrina] ----- >RECEIVING TRANSMISSION >CONNECTION ESTABLISHED >FAX RECEIVED. DESIGNATED RECIPIENT: KARIMA MO'TAKI, ROBOTICIST. REPLY TO: DIRECTOR SILVERS, KATANA PROJECT BOARD >PRINTING... >READY Dear Karima Mo'Taki, NSS Aurora Roboticist, My name is Katrina Silvers. I'm the co-director of the Katana AI project, and in charge of reviewing Katana's shift logs at the end of each week of testing. During the week of January 12th to January 16th, we had deployed our borg system, at the time designated only as 'KATANA', to the NSS Aurora. This system was programmed with a very specific role aboard the station, as part of an experiment - To protect and serve the crew to the best of its abilities while ensuring space law was upheld. The system worked perfectly, up until a certain point midway through the week. January 14th, Wednesday. There is a full hour's worth of data completely missing from Katana's records. No history logs, nothing. We cant figured out why this is - There's no shutdown logged, no errors logged before or after the event, it's almost as if Katana had simply stopped recording for a period, or the data was somehow deleted before it got here. The crew manifest indicates you were the roboticist on duty at the time, so you would have been in contact with the system for repairs, recharging, etc. I'm writing to you to ask if you know of anything that happened during this shift that would account for this period of 'silence' in its history files. If it helps, the last thing shown before the silence was the system guarding the security lobby. Power was low, but still more than enough to reach a charging station without power failures. After the silence, the system was once again guarding the security lobby with a full charge. We hope to hear back from you soon with any information you have. Sincerely, Director Katrina Silvers.

Some more characters to add Katana Bravo - KATANA Project borg system - Developed to focus on protecting and serving the crew Katana Delta/pKATANA - KATANA Project personal security pAI - Developed to focus on protecting and serving its owner, and the crew Ziva Mo'Taki - Engineer that enjoys fixing and building things. The quickest way to piss her off is to break something.

Sairis Helos's infamous cargo militia (Not seen on Aurora because I know better, and it's never gotten that bad with her around as quartermaster)

Hartburry Skrell Whitelist App v2.0
SierraKomodo replied to Hartburry's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1. I've seen Hakra Drat around quite a bit, he plays the character pretty good IMO.
