I like this idea, and it'd be a cool thing to bring up something to RP about. I have a question though (And I'm really hoping the answer is yes and admins would allow it, because this would be cool) - Will you be playing out 'Rustbucket' as well, as perhaps a voice coming from the PDA and/or have a friend that'll be like a pAI personality acting as Rustbucket? Either way, I like this, I can see it being something certain characters (I'm thinking of a specific Tajarran roboticist in fact) might be interested in ICly. +1 from me

[Resolved] Genetic Engineering
SierraKomodo replied to Erik Tiber's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
So, for example, someone having genetic modification to reduce the likelihood of receiving a genetic disorder/disease that runs in their family, later on in life? (Ziva Mo'Taki's heart issue comes to mind with this one - Was trying to think of a 'real world' application for this, so to speak) I could get behind something like that as a medical practice in the day and age the lore is set in, although what Jackboot's said in the last couple posts more or less hits on what I'm thinking of for this right now (It's honestly the only application I can see for it at the moment; Something might hit me later on) P.S.: There was a character Rasine and Jo'Zah ran into the other day, that mention he wished he was Tajarran (Not in a fetish way, either). Was interesting, even if that discussion was rather short lived due to red-alert-oh-god-oh-god; Genetic engineering/research could have a play in things like that -

I've always had Katana interpret it as 'ERT is not this station's crew. However, the role of ERT overrides all members of this station's crew'. -
This needs to be our new code delta sound. Please.

Except the laws say nothing about staying in lanes, or even that I need to follow regulations in any way, only to obey based on rank and role. I can imagine a lot of people not being happy if I started taking that line of thought with Katana -

In regards to the chain of command, particularly captain>command. I get told, alot, that I do that wrong, no matter which way I do it. Captain overrides command staff? Alright, I'll obey the captain's every order, period- "YOUR WRONG TWO HEADS OVERRIDE THE CAPTAIN". Ok... So let's say 2 heads or 50% of non captain heads, whichever is greate- "NO CAPTAIN OVERRIDES EVERYTHING". I put up a thread about that awhile ago, and couldn't get astraight answer from anyone so.. Any thoughts on that? Currently, I've just decided to ignore the bickering about it, and have Katana assume a certain number of heads overrides the captain if they vote, and Kunai assume the captain always overrides command. -
I'm slightly on the fence about the colors. What about antag chemists that make one chemical, and label it as another? I.e., putting sleep toxin instead of painkillers in a bottle?

Loow is a filthy scrub peasant. But he RPs well, crates some glorious moments (Particularly with Chance), and I think he'd be great as an IPC. +1

Reporting Personnel: Ziva Mo'Taki Rank of Reporting Personnel: Maintenance Technician Personnel Involved: Brian Moon Time of Incident: 2:30 PM Location of Incident: Outside the bridge Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property []Neglect of Duty [X]Harassment []Assault []Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Brian Moon was constantly making speciest remarks, said she should not be paid because she is a cat, told her that she will not get catnip if she does not /behave/, and continued on with other racist remarks, and even pushed her. He later continued with more racist remarks about her and an Unathi on radio after she left the area. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Head of Security Raymond Tanner, Research Director Cecillia Lambert, and CMO Eira Asher were present when it occured. Additional notes: (If there are none simply leave it blank)

Reporting Personnel: Ziva Mo'Taki Rank of Reporting Personnel: Maintenance Technician Personnel Involved: Duty Officers (Felix Walters, Kelvin Stephenso), Engineering department (Ziva Mo'Taki, Ridley Aulmais, Paul Fauteux, Andy Waterson, Nasir Ha'kim) Time of Incident: Location of Incident: NSS Aurora Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault []Misconduct [X]Other Failure to properly investigate and report issues to departments (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Duty officers performed a surprise investigation. their report includes items that were already fixed by the time she became aware of them and checked on them (Missing tiles. Exposed wiring. She thinks vandalism or sabotage but it was fixed by the time someone mentioned it to her). Nothing that they listed in their report was ever reported to engineering prior to her pay being deducted. Everything she was told about, she fixed - The bar floor (Delayed because wood needed to be delivered by cargo), doors in cargo not working. Another engineer fixed the security doors that were not working as soon as it was reported. She was also told an anomaly in the power system was a reason for her pay being deducted. That is something completely out of her control, that nobody can predict or prevent in her experience. She and the rest of engineering do not deserve the pay deduction they were given. Everything reported was fixed, and a couple things not reported but discovered were also fixed. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Research Director Cecillia Lambert Additional notes: One of the duty officers fell asleep while she was talking to them about this

BYOND Key: SierraKomodo Character Names: Ariana Eshlian, Katana, Kunai, Kylan Hadyara, Miraj Zi'Ad, Rasine Ha'kim, Sairis Helosi, Sarah Wolfe, Sean Zelios, Ziva Mo'Taki How long have you been playing on Aurora: 3 months Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dull reddish-brown, almost rust-colored Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In the long run, I plan on having at least one character for every race that's currently in Aurora's lore. I want to have a more diverse listing of characters, instead of my current 3 humans, 1 IPC, and 4 tajarran, which seem to be the most common races on the station lately. I was debating on creating a skrell, but I had a sudden inspiration for a female Unathi running civilian level jobs, and decided to roll with that. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi from Moghes are a patriarchal clan-based species, unlike humanity where men and women are on more or less equal footing. The female character I'll be palying would be used to being nothing more than a sentient tool to do the housework for her clan - Cooking, cleaning, book-keeping, etc etc. Additionally, the Unathi are more formal/reserved socially - Preferring to be referred to by their surname, not liking physical touch from those they don't know well, and in referring to superiors in an extended name of sorts (Example: If talking with any of security, whom would technicaly be her superior in the jobs she'll hold, she would refer to them as 'Aurora Security' instead of using their names. Why does this species in particular hold your interest?: As I read through the lore on the wiki, poked a few people about it, and thought of how this character would have developed in the traditional settings of Moghes, I got more inspired for this character, and now I'm attached to her idea/concept. The only way I'll be able to play this character on Aurora is if I'm able to play as an Unathi. Character Name: Saite Kesra (Sigh-Eat - silent t) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Saite was born to and grew up in a clan of Unathi engineers, though as one of the females of the clan, she was never trained in any of her family's engineering work. Instead, her time with the family was spent helping clean their home, put food on the table, keep things organized and, at times, would join her male siblings to do the same tasks at a job site. Due to the nature of her clan's work, there was some contact with travellers and merchants of other species when she was working at a job site preparing food and cleaning messes. As she grew up, she started getting more and more interested in the stories these visitors had to tell of the universe outside Moghes. On her twentieth birthday (hatch-day?), she approached her grandfather - The clan's current Alpha - with a request to leave Moghes like other Unathi have before her to explore the outside universe she had heard so much about. He was reluctant, at first, but eventually gave in to the idea, on a single condition: She would be accompanied by one of her brothers. Siiead Kesra (See-Ed), from the same clutch, volunteered to go with, and in the year 2456 they had both set out with the Alpha's blessing. A year later, and Saite had found employment with NanoTrasen. Having just signed her employment contract, and completed her orientation training and shown she knows enough Tau Ceti Basic to function on station, she has been assigned to the NSS Aurora for janitorial and assistant work as a trial period. What do you like about this character? It's a new concept entirely for me to play a character that considers herself the bottom of the command chain, and considers everyone else a superior, or even for me to play a character thats entirely focused on civilian roles (Janitor, Chef, Librarian, etc). Plus, this makes her rather dependent on another figure (Her brother), even though she is working to earn credits herself (Which her and her brother are sharing - and yes, I imagine he has a job too), so being on station, away from Siiead or any other family might prove interesting. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I r gewd engriz and arpee. Is good yaya. In all seriousness though, I think I've been RPing pretty good lately. People seem to like all of my characters that I actively play, and I've had a lot of fun with trying to play a variety of different personalities and styles. Notes: Humans are friends. Not food. Monkeys, however, are delicious treats to be consumed on sight.

So. The situation Fowl was referencing, since he's using that as his reasoning for this thread. Jo'Zah, Imraj, and Rasine were in cargo. Jo'Zah and Imraj had crossbows made, Rasine just had a kitchen knife. Suddenly a nuke op shows up, opening the firelocks Rasine had dropped for the purpose of delaying anyone trying to get in. Jo'Zah and Rasine got into the warehouse, but Imraj got trapped. So, Rasine grabs a welding tank, runs out with it as a distraction so Jo'Zah could get Imraj out of there (Split second decision to try to save someone that she thinks is actually decent Horrible plan that, for whatever reason, actually worked). Tank gets shot, explodes, 99% sure that knocked the nuke op down as he was on the ground before Jo'Zah showed up (I was down, too). He took a few (Not sure how many actually) crossbow bolts and was still able to get up before help showed up to subdue him. So.. I'm not entirely sure where he's getting that crossbow bolts are OP, unless I missed something somewhere after my distraction ended in kaboom As for crossbows, I've never actually used one or had one used on me. I don't have any characters that would know how to build one and actually build one and use it, so I can't really say anything for or against them

Don't think Tenenza's trying to shoot the idea down, just trying to get people to be nice about things (Though still be honest, too) OOCly when they do this experiment.

I've got a theory about that one. Security is slightly unique in that they interact with the entire station in one form or another, by responding to security calls, patrolling, executing warrants, etc etc. It's perfectly feasible to find a security officer anywhere on the station, interacting with someone in some form or another. Medbay, research, and engineering typically sit in their own corners until they have to leave the departments for something.

I actually have a couple characters here and there that do know eachother ICly for one reason or another Ziva Mo'Taki and Rasine Ha'kim Believe it or not, they actually get along well. Probably because Ziva actually knows how to take a hint and not touch/hug people that dont want it. Ziva's not a drinking buddy, but the two harass Nasir alot I imagine Katana and Kunai Since they're both developed by the same people, it makes sense that Katana and Kunai would be familiar with eachother. Still working out Kunai's quirks/personality so not much else to say here xD And now for ones that would have interesting stories if they met... Miraj Zi'Ad and Rasine Ha'kim Honestly, I can only see that ending with Miraj in the hospital and Rasine arrested for aggravated assault. Miraj is a very friendly Tajara (Self proclaimed friendliest Tajara - Although only to humans, skrell, and other Tajarra) and hugs /everyone/. Rasine is... Rasine.
