You guys are being dumb. Ling is fine, what people call 'bad rounds' are actually just the result of it being too repetitive. Personally, I love ling the way it is. Just sec mains can't RP it properly and half the station will either try to genk the ling or, rubberneck the ling. The other half that avoids the ling I'm certain have a good time outside of all the radiation leaks. A legitimate bad ling round is one where there is absolutely no RP, where the HoS calls out the ling claiming they've 'seen it before in Dominia' or something. Those don't even happen here. Ultimately I think you guys should be happy with what you have, Ling rounds work really well, and I usually love the sense of terror that accompanies it. Granted I get a little salty if I get insta-killed, but the one time that has happened I was being retarded and trying to fight the horrorform with no armor and a replica katana. If you are all unhappy with pure combat, maybe just let horror form emote so you can have actual body-horror RP. That doesn't happen tho, because most people are quite happy with pure combat, there are just a few ninnies who get sad when their spaceman dies and they are upset. Yeah I'm one of them, but like I mean come on, it's no reason to just remove Ling all-together. It's a solid round type and a staple for a good round of SS13. Getting Assmad is fine, it is not scaring people off. You weirdos just need to like, try not to change everything because of a handful of bad experiences that you could not appreciate.

Guwan commit 70% of the crime in Biesel despite being only 5% of the population.

Do not trust them they are stimkgy lizards. I once saw a guwan picked its nose and ate it. guwan do not shower because they are gross and smell bad.

The jetpacks in game are monofuel jetpacks. They use pressurized gas to push people. I think we should have both monofuel jetpacks, and plasma jetpacks. Plasma jetpacks would generate actual thrust through making an intense amount of ions, using a large amount of power. Monofuel jetpacks would work with pressurized gas and only function at low pressure/ gravity. Honestly what makes less sense is that the hardsuit component converters turn gas based jetpacks into an ion/electricity/hover based jetpack. Making the jetpack consume power instead of air to use it.

oh that's a good idea! An emergency blue-space eject module! Something that lets you escape the mech instantly, and get teleported randomly somewhere that is hopefully safer!

What if... Mech swords are just a traitor item. They have a high-rate of missing when being used on people, but if being used on other mechs or walls/doors they absolutely wreck it. Alternatively, a 'sword' could be an engineering tool, something like a rapid demolition tool that uses hypersonic vibration to make the big ole' blade do alot of damage to doors and walls.

In comparison to the vanilla mech code? Yes, quite a bit. I can't quite recall all the equipment now, but the list has been considerably thinned. We've still got laserguns, tasers(Now titled 'electrolasers'), and machine guns, but we don't have alternate versions of them. There is also an X-ray laser gun that you can outfit the mech with, if research has illegal technology up. I believe there is also a flashbang launcher. Instead of a jetpack, there are legs specifically to enable hovering. They consume more power and in exchange let you freely move up and down. For medical, the biggest change is the Medical Drone Bay, which can shoot a stabilizing beam at nearby people if they are hurt. However, other than that all the same medical equipment exists. Engineering basically just gets an RFD now, there's no cable layer. Still RFD's are very useful tools, particularly in a mech because they run entirely off power. Lastly, there are a few misc bits of equipment, like a flare launcher or an extinguisher. Major stuff that's missing from vanilla mech gear would be power generators, force-field projectors, and repair drones. I think it's sort of worth the trade though.

BYOND Key: 1062 Aphelion Accused Players Byond Key: Don't Know, do you really think I want to know you OOCly? Time of Act: A week ago, a month... maybe even a year? Reason for Ban: We all know you did it. It was really terrible, and even though you may think nobody minded at the time. We did. It was perhaps the most cringe inducing thing ever done on this server, billions of times worse than ERP, genking, metagaming, and zero-RP actions all rolled into one. Honestly I am baffled you could even stoop this low, hopefully the admins can deal with the pathetic individual you happen to be. Evidence: I have no logs, I don't need any. I think we've all just had enough of you, and if I'm the first one to make the call then so be it. Go back to whatever lowRP server you started at, you aren't wanted here. As for evidence, I only need to rely on the testimony of everyone involved in the incident that is you. And sadly, that's everyone who comes to this server. Just every engagement with you is so awful, so terrible, so cringe inducing that we have no choice but to blot it from our minds. Regardless, I say it now. Enough is enough. I hope the admins ban your IP swiftly.

+1 Seems like someone who just genuinely likes making the round better for everyone, would be a fine addition to the pool of heads in my opinion. -
Thankyou And yeh, the two hardest things for me to learn was the function of the Control Module, and that Alt-Clicking was how you used flood-lights and such.

I imagine feasible designs for metal-gears and Kaiju-Slaying war machines exist though, At the VERY least, there are probably mechs being produced to match the size and strength of Vaurca war-forms. A kaiju slaying war machine would just be far too big to make in game, sadly. Although canonically I would wager that Purpose probably has built super-mechs but just have no use for them... yet.

The new mech systems are pretty great; but I can see how they could be difficult for someone new to SS13 to get the hang of. It took me a few attempts to learn the basics which I will cover in this guide. So- what am I covering in this guide? Components required in mech parts Painting Components Assembling the mech Disassembling the mech Equipping the mech Piloting the mech Hopefully all this information is useful to anyone looking to get into robotics. I really encourage experimentation, as it seems like every component adds a little uniqueness to the mech. Entirely complete mech, equipment and all.

Yes. My interactions with Xicic have all been rather pleasant. +1 -

@ all the people saying that nanopaste/whatever is a must. Medical needs chemicals in a similar fashion, but they very rarely break into chemistry to get them. Perhaps making it actually possible to replace components in an IPC would be good, instead of making nanopaste the only way to fix robot organs. Either way, it is very frustrating. The solution of placing the Protolathe in the hall basically removes the role of R&D entirely, the whole point of the game is on playerxplayer interactions and you shouldn't be able to get everything you want without interacting with anyone.

Well if swords are unrealistic, maybe add some kind of leg-shield that can deploy infront of the mech so it rams into people. I'm just saying cause right now we've got two pairs of legs that work for two different things, the treads make a mech turn slow, but move fast, and the quadrolegs make a mech turn fast, but move relatively slow. So one pair of legs is good for ranged combat, and the other is good for charging and melee combat that we do not have.

Heeey So uh, apparently there's been a few ideas to add for mechsmithing, but I thought I'd just create a thread for things that I think would make it cooler/ what ideas would be nice for it. So far, I have three main ideas. 1. Mech swords/shields/melee. The use of a sword is outdated somewhat because bullets and guns are just that more efficient, but when the sword is as large as a person, and is being swung on a hydraulic arm nearing the speed of sound it just makes sense to have it. Additionally it would go great with the tread base for a mech, because those seem to be designed for charging. 2. KA Holder-slot Miners like to use KAs, just add weapon for holding and firing KAs. 3. Buffer-Treads/cleaning tools Basically, a set of legs and equipment if you want to make a mech for the janitor. A rare thing I know due to material costs but hear me out, the Janitor could move at a relatively good speed and clean the floor as they go. Anywho I wasn't really sure who to talk to about this, so I thought I'd just blurt out my somewhat crazy but nice ideas that I think are sorta cool here. What else could mechs do with?

BYOND Key: 1062 Aphelion Character Names: Owata Sagan, Lucia Humie, Michael Suss, Vulun Yonosh, Qoklor Zet'gox, Yonosh Nuux, Daniel Blaze (the list goes on, but those are my most played I think) Species you are applying to play: IPC - Bishop Accessory Frame Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'm a big fan of robot sci-fi. That sort of trans-humanism aspect of attempting to create intelligence and the implications of artificial intelligence. I think roleplaying an IPC in general would make for some titillating RP around having cognizance while seemingly being devoid of a few of the key elements that make a human or biologically formed creature. Additionally, specifically playing Bishop I think appeals to me a fair bit, I think it looks really cool, and at the same time I like the personality that is bound to come with a luxury synthetic. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: For me, a few things would influence how the character acts quite dramatically. For starters, if the character is a robot it would not be born, but rather made, most likely manufactured to suit some kind of purpose or order. Then there's the fact that it is an effort at replicating intelligence, the unnaturalness of it in comparison to how human intelligence operates. Additionally, their priorities would be much different, although an IPC would emulate human behavior, it would also seek out the more rational solution to problems, not being affected by emotions in the event of a crisis. Character Name: RCA Luxe Please provide a short backstory for this character: Luxe was created as a Robotics Consultant and Assistant, within the Eridani Federation, following a stringent activation process that ensured it was knowledgeable and socially effective before being assigned its role at the Oran Robotics and Engineering Academy. The role Luxe was expected to perform at the academy was a tutor or study assistant for up-and-coming robotics engineers. Generally this service only being provided to extremely important students. As was expected of Luxe, it took up working with between five and twelve students on various assignments as they achieved their qualifications, although Luxe interacted with many students, it would find itself more often than not, assisting a small group of well off humans, namely Jody Bekanham and Terry Isle. These two students seemed to not only appreciate the assistance Luxe would provide in their assignments, but additionally found the social programming Luxe came prepared with quite entertaining. Although Bekanham and Isle would not refer to Luxe as a friend, in any case it became part of a small clique, and in this process fulfilled an obligation of its design; That obligation being to affect the students it worked with on a social level, to develop an even better work ethic and interest in their selected field. In doing this, Luxe would at one point save Mis Bekanham from involving herself with dregs, which she had been in contact with for cheap narcotics. Luxe did this by encouraging her to quit narcotics entirely and regularly leading discussion to scolding those awful dregs for their supremely anti-social demeanor and outright disgusting appearance. In the end, this strategy proved quite successful for the duration of her study, and she graduated successfully. Luxe would continue to tutor various students for roughly eight years, Mis Bekanham and Mister Isle graduating roughly three years into Luxe's service. The ending of Luxe's vocation was unprecedented, and a quite stressful time, as it was abruptly told to cease its tutoring and go to the department of supply, something that only usually happened to defective IPCs who were expected to be dismantled, the stress itself was also quite unprecedented to Luxe, and through it Luxe came to the conclusion that it liked existing. However, Luxe would soon discover it was not going to be dismantled or 'troubleshooted' and instead was being purchased by NanoTrasen. It then found itself working in a high end Robotics and Augmentation facility, yet again working with Terry Isle and Jody Bekenham who it was quite certain had influenced the sudden purchasing of itself. Luxe began working at the facility, providing consultation to people interested in augments and assisting in the training of newer Roboticists, another two years would go by and eventually Terry would be promoted out of his position and Jody fired as her addiction to narcotics resurfaced, evidently affecting her productivity quite badly. Luxe found and still occasionally finds this upsetting, but at the same time understands that Jody was not its responsibility and ultimately got what she deserved. Luxe would continue operating at the facility for about a year, before ultimately being requested to move around in circulation within the NT corporation, as its expertise and experience base were considered beneficial for most facilities it worked in, eventually finding itself being moved to Tau Ceti. What do you like about this character? I don't think we see enough Eridani IPCs coming to the station, at least no obvious eridani IPCs. I think it would make for an interesting addition to the crew. I think that there is good inner conflict in a machine that although practicing Eridani customs has experienced first hand that there are some areas where it doesn't quite work. and, well I like to think it still largely adopts the role of tutor when working in robotics, if there are less experienced roboticists about. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6-7/10 Notes:
