  1. No, but the whole "have a tragedy SUDDENLY someplace nice" is pretty sue. Also, as far as variety goes, I'm not convinced - I've seen Aaron who is a miner who doesn't give a fuck, Robert who's a bit of a manchild and deeply in love with a robot, Essel being Essel, Ezra being a down-to-earth no-bullshit guy, Moon being a chill yet authoritative person, Lachina being a fun but smooth woman, Aleksandra being a bouncy-as-fuck warden... There's plenty variety to be had in human characters. You just have to find a few more characters of your own.
  2. It does not, because my complaint was not about your characters being bitchy, but BECAUSE of your lack of variety. I don't think a simple "Tajaran Stone" would be of much benefit to the station, and we have no evidence that you can do anything else. That's my main point. There's also the generic/mary-sue-ness of your sheet, but that's mostly a detail if you could show you had a lot of variety.
  3. Really sorry, but -1. While Wolf isn't a terrible RPer, he's still rather uninspired (it feels like, as he has hinted, that most of his characters are pretty much a template of one another) - and it shows in his lackluster presentation. Tajarans, being especially communicative, most likely wouldn't be properly reflected yet in his play. If he shows, in the future, the ability to increase his character variety while being human, I will change my vote. But until then, he has to work on his characters.
  4. +1. SASHA BEST WARDEN. Seriously though, I've had only a handful of experiences with MuscleGirl (mostly with Aleksandra, twice with Michelle), and she's a DELIGHT to play with. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do with command. (Admittedly I am also hoping that some day we will see Sasha HoS. THAT WILL BE GLORIOUS.))
  5. So - it really bugs me out. The server is calling itself "heavy roleplay" yet the players are unable to make things happen - instead, they sit around extended rounds waiting to be able to vote the crew transfer to move to a more action-based round style, and then wait for shit to blow up in the other gamemodes so that they can do something about it. What's the point? Isn't Extended supposed to give the players the opportunity to both create networks of characters that know each other, and to reflect on the events of the past shifts (if they consider it canon for their characters)? To develop their character's past and present? What's the point of calling Aurora "heavy RP" if most the players are just waiting for shit to happen to start playing? In that mindset, I would suggest increasing the vote limits by 1-2 hours if the gamemode selected is Extended (no vote initiation before 3-4 hours, then the 2/3rd rule pops off after 4-5 hours) to give players an incentive to actually roleplay on Aurora instead of just playing rounds after rounds of the station getting fucked to hell and back. Thoughts?
  6. Okay I want to make a clarification. There was ONE head of staff (barely) alive outside of the station which may have been retrieved and repaired.
  7. I've seen people make fun of every single religion. Christianism and Pastafariansim was parodied with a sweaty space jesus with noodly arms. Scientology was parodied by having a church that venerated the Skrell, Unathi and Tajaran for being bearers of soul. I've seen Buddhism be parodied TWO TIMES in opposite ways - one of them emptied the chapel to make the most bare chapel, the other turned the chapel into a full-on buffet to celebrate Buddha's corpulence. Hell - I've even seen a parody of mesoamerican religions with an antagonist who ordered a goat then switched a man's heart with a goat's. If you want realistic religions in SS13, the Aurora is probably not the place to be because as far as I can see, the "Chaplain" post in Aurora is pretty muc "religious clown". There's nothing wrong with Timmy's behavior - he wasn't trying to harm anyone, he was just playing a stereotypical very devout Imam.
  8. I approve - and because people don't know how many votes each has, it also means that "strategic voting" will also be mitigated - everyone will vote for what they truly want, and that may show a resurgence of less-used gamemodes (and a lesser use of secret). And Frances, I don't see that being a problem. And the coordination part is actually a problem that was stated and that we're suggesting to fix.
  9. +1. Loow is, without a doubt, one of the most fun players I've interacted with - both IC and OOC. Beatrix Taylor and Tereza Vasquez, in particular, were a delight to play with - I have absolutely no reason to say they shouldn't have a Skrell. It'll just lead to more awesomeness and shenanigans.
  10. They can be CMO, CEs and RDs.
  11. +1. I never expected Dragonsnap and Mo'Taki to be from the same user. There's a stark contrast between them - Mo'Taki, I felt, was sort of a more nervous and secluded character who was proud but probably hurt inside while Dragonsnap was what a butler would be if it was a borg - polite, useful and very non-intrusive. Overall, I trust entirely NebulaFlare in their application for a white list, and am certain that Lori will be able to reach Nasir Khayyam in matters of CE reputation.
  12. BYOND key: Killerhurtz Character names:Kelly McKenzie, Cruz Newbern, Kaidan Bouchard, Sybil-M, Sybil How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A month now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've noticed that things usually don't really go well when there's no Heads - griefing, meta-grudging, being an asshole or people doing things just because there's no one to stop them. Well - one more head should help towards stopping that, right? Why did you come to Aurora?: I came because a friend invited me over to take a look after a few years of not playing SS13. Stayed because the Aurora members are amazing - I haven't had that much fun in a multiplayer game in forever, if ever. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Exploring situations, and thus people's reactions, that most people would never live through in real life - if at all, considering the Aurora's setting. That means personifying different people, even non-humans, to see what we truly are about - and mayhaps even finding some understanding about people the opposite of oneself by playing a character that embodies it. But most importantly, having fun with others being who we aren't. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Making sure that people don't do stupid shit. Heads of Staff have the authority to do what most other crewmen can't - like saying if something should or should not be done, and so on. That also means holding the people under them responsible for their actions - like not letting Toxins just make and detonate bombs without warning or out of designated areas, or not letting engineers just fuck doors up and such. They're the only people who can make sure that people can do things and have a good experience without a jerkwad getting in their way. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: As whitelisted players, they're trusted. That means that the admins hold them as examples of what players should be - as such, their conduct should be exemplar - on top of reporting or otherwise dealing with the less-than-ideal players to make sure that everyone has just as good an experience OOC as they have IC. I would enforce it by first trying to defuse or otherwise stop any subpar player before reporting them. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Sybil-M Character age: 3 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Sybil had started out as a full-fledged station AI designed to handle multiple tasks as most AIs seemed to be very task-focused. It's first assignment showed that Project Sybil was a success, as it successfully answered all queries of a minor space station. Between assignments, it's creators had worked at improving it's capabilities, which had produced the multitasking juggernaut that was Sybil V2.68 - as shown on it's assignment to the NSS Aurora, where it collectively assisted Security in arresting a suspect, assisting an emergency crew in restoring an explosive-damaged Xenobiology lab, scanned the station for an unknown biologic presence AND assisted a CMO-less medical crew in saving lives. Due to that sheer success, it was decided that a more mobile unit based on the software was to be made - and thus, with the authorization of NanoTrasen, Sybil-M was created from the software of Sybil V2.68 , shedding it's sheer computing power and database interfacing in exchange for a more powerful social processing core and the key point of all IPCs - mobility. And that, too, was a success - Sybil was readily accepted within the crew, serving most often as quartermaster but more than once as researcher and just once as a chemist, and unofficially as moral support (due to it's advanced social processor), which earned itself freedom from a distressed CMO. And with that freedom came more success - it continued it's duties aboard the Aurora, remembering the non-unpleasant work and influence of NanoTrasen. After several shifts, it had decided it would at least attempt to apply for posts it believed would be the pinnacle of what it would be able to do: research director or chief medical officer. What do you like about this character?: A very polyvalent character which lets me test how much multi-tasking I am capable of AND explore several concepts involved in the existence of a sapient synthetic (which is a big plus to me - I love everything that deals with the concept of a true AI) while also being able to test how useful a synthetic can be. What do you dislike about this character?: I feel somewhat uncertain - on the one hand, in it's bio there IS an advanced language module, on the other hand I am half-afraid to be reported if I do not support the synthspeak style common to IPCs. Also, genetics testing is really slow because it's artificial. And finally, there's the fact that since there's no robotics crew most games, I am left to my own devices when needing repairs. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: It was DESIGNED to be the head of something - after all, it started out as an AI, which is in a sense Head of Station. While it might have trouble with cooperation with organics (whether through insubordination or being a griefer), it's fully equipped with everything to handle anything thrown at it - especially paperwork. Why?: As stated, Sybil-M was derived from the software of a station AI, which means that it has been put in situations where being tasked with several things is not a problem - combined with the fact that a lot of the crew it's encountered has reacted positively to it's presence (though it's probably far from being all of the crew that are regularly on the Aurora) means that generally it will have no problem cutting through decisions and allowing the station to function correctly. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Well, I have been roleplaying for quite a while - in text for the last nine years, almost, and in several games for four - which means I am generally well-versed in roleplaying. Combined with my general acceptance from the groups I am in and my success at being an appreciated AI within the NSS Aurora, I would give myself a score of eight out of ten - meaning that while I am very good, it is not perfect and I still have a few things to learn. Extra notes: I have no idea if it was intended that there was that line above my RP rating but there it goes.
  13. +1. Farache is by far the snarkiest, most awesome chemist I've had the grace to RP with - I can't wait to see how much ass he whips as CMO, it's going to be HILARIOUS.
  14. +1. Imraj Brar is an awesome character. I'm fairly sure that canon's going to make an awesome Unathi - mostly because Imraj is already a colorful, well-defined character with an actual personality. I am sure that these traits will move over and adapt to an Unathi character quite nicely.
  15. +1. KISA is best AI.
  16. +1. Shaun and Flint are two great characters to play with - and I LOVE the idea of a dwarf IPC. IT IS A DWARF AND IT WILL BE DIGGING A HOLE. DIGGY DIGGY HOLE.
  17. +1. Loow is a great RPer and I find his IPC idea very interesting - I am confident he can exploit the concept to it's full potential.
  18. So, we have a holodeck, right? But right now there's only entertainment options. A few dead-hours people (including Josh1133) and myself have come to the conclusion that the Holodeck could certainly use a more utilitarian aspect - a whole training suite, so that assistants in the various domains (genetics, medical, surgery, chemistry, toxins, engineering and so on) could safely train on their job and have fuck-ups matter less (at least that would be the in-universe explanation - the real purpose would be that players can try things safely, experiment and learn things - and new players get to try and learn a job out before fucking up another player). Thoughts?
  19. +1. Sirasairot's an amazing character with a backstory of picking stray mice and carrying them aboard the station for companionship. It's just a natural order of things at this point.
  20. BYOND Key: Killerhurtz Character Names: Kelly McKenize, Sybil V6.28, Teisen V0.76, ZZR1CK, GL0R14 How long have you been playing on Aurora: Two weeks now. Species you are applying to play: Integrated Positronic Chassis What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Thing is, I got a soft spot for the non-organic roles. Currently, I like playing as borg, and I LOVE playing as AI (and I've been told a few times that I'm good at it too). So I wanted to have a go at the third electronic role of the station, see what it's like and see if I'd like it - don't get me wrong, I love all of the antics Kelly gets herself into (especially as a psychiatrist - the only two reasons she's my only character is because I felt like I didn't have time between rounds AND I really like Kelly), but I would like to know what it's like to RP as a free and highly adaptable electronic unit. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: For starters, the obvious fear that organics have of IPCs - they do not trust AIs as it stands, IPCs would be worse by tenfold for being independent, free AI platforms (which are not even hard-bound by hardware laws like station AIs are), and as such integration and interaction with organics would be more interesting and possibly more... flavorful. Second, there's the fact that they have the thinking of a computer, and not an organic - and that, in itself and combined with it's freedom, makes for several more interesting RPing options, and would allow me to explore even further what it means to be a synthetic aboard the Aurora. Third, there would also be the contradictory usefulness of an inorganic platform - which means they would have a higher dysfunction threshold, and could access more areas - and that means I get to see other players get torn between not trusting an autogoverning AI and choosing to trust because it can survive in a non-oxygenated environment and other miscellaneous uses of a self-repairing unit. I also find the concept of a synthetic psychiatrist VERY tempting to try. Character Name: Sybil-M V1.17R3 Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Sybil had started out as a main station AI. As all AI start, it's goal was to serve and protect both the station and it's crew. It's first stints were in minor space-stations, where it was denoted to have impressive presence. Between shifts, it's creators had working on improving and optimizing the software - which has shown Sybil V6.28 to be a legitimate juggernaut of multi-tasking, as proven on it's first assignment to the NSS Aurora where it collectively assisted Security in arresting a suspect, assisting an emergency crew in restoring an explosive-damaged Xenobiology lab, scanned the station for an unknown biologic presence AND assisted a CMO-less medical crew in saving lives. Being based on the aforementioned Sybil V6.28 (due to an error in risk assessment software in later versions which caused too high suspicion against innocent people and drastic measures to be taken too early), the Sybil-M platform was the condensation of the optimized task engine and personality (along with the experimental Teisen Improved Virtual Language Processor Plus, to emulate more closely organic talk) adapted to work in a mobile positronic brain unit instead of a full-fledged main core, leaving behind it's number-crunching and highly efficient database interface in exchange for a stronger personality and social matrix and, in general, mobility. The unit's success was rapidly seen as, in it's following assignments, it made a very remarkable manager and secretary, managing some of the best organics at such roles - whether being a research assistant or cargo technician (and eventually excelling in a Quartermaster assignment). It also served as a confident and crew morale maintainer, as it's enhanced social core allowed to read and understand organic thought processes and psychology better - even to the point of grasping the basic implications of emotion - including a distressed Chief Medical Officer which offered to buy it's freedom for the services rendered. Remembering the stimulating and generally not unpleasant work done within the NSS Aurora, it had decided to sign up within it as a crewmember. What do you like about this character? Sybil-M would allow me to explore deeper this new character of mine, and help me steer both what I want it to be and how I roleplay synthetics - and mayhaps even explore the relation of the Aurora's crew to a major change in an AI they may have remembered, on top of having the chance to RP an AI's adaptation to a limited, lawed platform to a free one. On top of that, it will also help me deepen my own RPing habits and comforts, seeing what I may want in characters and subsequently increase my characters diversity. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8.5/10 Notes: A▼▲, A▼▲
