This is a very well written application. Everything seems in order. Please post the code phrase from the lore page, or pm me, and I'll mark this as approved.

This isn't fully filled out. I'll give you 24 hours to update this following the guidelines. Best of luck. -
Hunnewle's IPC Application
jackfractal replied to Hunnewle's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You're looking fine. The lore page in question is here. There is a code word on that page, if you post it here or send it in an PM I'll mark this as approved. One minor warning, try not to have your IPC cross too many job boundaries. AI's advanced enough to be able to handle every task on a space station would be too valuable to install in a single chassis. -
How much do the Alien races weigh on average?
jackfractal replied to Dea Tacita's topic in Answered Questions
Shells are usually lighter then their organic counterparts due to their construction materials. Older models tend to be heavier then newer models, and those build for heavy industry or labor are usually more rugged then those built for precision tasks like surgery or entertainment. -
I think Jackboot has the right approach, just have this bypass whitelist restrictions.
-
Hmm... what if the secondary vote was just for the people who rolled mercs? I mean, it's their choice after-all.
-
What it says on the tin. Jackboot won't be available until Sunday. He seems to have limited Skype access but no way to get on the forums or answer questions.
-
Looks like you've got everything worked out. Approved.

These all look like fun. They should all be possible to code with the exception of Funny Gas. ZAS isn't setup to work with gas clouds like that. You could maybe fake it, but would be awkward and tricky.

RAD - IPC Application
jackfractal replied to RussianArmsDealer's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
1138 is wrong, it is entirely possible to put an organic brain in a synthetic body. The situation he was talking about was someone trying to go the other way, to put a robotic brain in an organic body. That, we decided, was probably one step to far, a push into transhumanist territories that Jackboot didn't want to go into. I like the idea for your IPC character, and your human character tells me you know what you're up too. You also have the code phrase already so I'll mark this as approved. -
I think this is another thing that depends on the synthetic. Some lawed synthetics will resent, fear, envy, or be confused by unlawed synthetics, while others won't care or won't pay them any attention. We have a reasonable number of artificial intelligence characters who play station AI as well as IPC's, so in that complicates the matter as well. They're Legally crew-members, so the laws of protection and service always apply to them.

[Denied]Diona Lore
jackfractal replied to nanotoxin's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
Wasn't there a skrell religion that worshipped the Diona as gods? I liked that. I'm with Jackboot on this one, I think the Diona lore from bay is pretty great, and this would involve throwing all of that away. -
The only way an alternative would work is if it were easier then brigging people, and less likely to create recidivism. To make a mining prison work, you'd have to make the mine the only prison, and that would mean processing in and out of it would have to be very efficient.

Considering how rarely paperwork gets done, I suspect that giving people the ability to forge signatures wouldn't destroy game balance (as people will always ask for confirmation directly when given unusual paperwork).
-
Hmm... I think zuhayr and company were planning on building a generic behavior tree system for AI's. I wonder if they ever finished it.
-
Hmm... assuming it's not MALF, we could give AI's the ability to 'cyro' (upload?) and have the core auto 'cryo' after fifteen minutes or so. Then a late-joiner could join as an AI into that core. I'd play late-join AI more often then I'd play round-start AI, I think.
-
I think the idea is to have late-join robots possible only if there are less then two on the station. I'd like this, as my primary character is a cyborg, not an android, so posibrains don't help me.

I'm personally in favor of having some kind of mechanical variety between characters (not of implementing it, because that would be a job and a half), but there is something to consider. In order for some characters to be good at some things, other characters would have to be bad at that thing. If you don't have the 'fabrication' trait then building a wall takes six times as long. If you don't have the 'weapons training' trait you're going to miss five out of six shots at a distance over three meters. To make the stats meaningful, you need to make people without those stats substantially inferior to the default level of ability as it exists in the game now. Right now, with a few minor exceptions, if you are capable of doing a task, you are able to do that task perfectly and, in most cases, instantaneously.
-
Adding a stats system would be... I'm not going to say impossible but I will say 'extraordinarily challenging' given the state of the code. SS13 doesn't really map the concepts 'you can do this, but this other person can do it better' with any elegance. You would have to rebuild a lot of interactions. That being said, I think trying to solve this problem is worthwhile one, but one that needs to be approached with deliberation. One of the key pillars that makes SS13 work in how directly player knowledge maps to in-game power. An antagonist who regularly plays security is dangerous, but an antagonist who regularly plays security but also knows how to hack, wear a space suit, make thermite, and use a medkit is a lot more dangerous. Breaking that link, even on a 'high-rp' server might do some weird stuff to the game.

Smifboy78's IPC Application
jackfractal replied to Bsmiffy78's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Cool bean. Thank you for the link. I'll mark this as approved. The administrators need to add your name to the approved list on the server. This usually happens within 24 hours. Best of luck! -

Could you link that one? That lore is no longer valid, sorry. I've been meaning to remove it. My bad.
