But it does solve the entire problem. The problem is that I do not like seeing it, and when I click "toggle OOC," it is gone. How much more problem-solvey could it get? Does it really bother you so much what people say while you can't see OOC? It's like being the singular vegan who goes out to eat with fifty of your closest friends, but has an inexplicable psychological compulsion that demands each and every one of said friends eats only vegan-approved foods, despite the fact that you are not obligated to eat what is on their plate and it shouldn't very well matter to you. When they go home at night, you know they're going to break out the thick-sliced turkey bacon. If the food isn't on your plate, then it's really not your problem. You have a legitimate grievance if someone tracks you down in-game and shouts IC and LOOC at you to the same effect, but barring that, just shut off OOC and let the good times roll. If you're incapable of that, then simply pray for mercy and never go to 4chan.

But that's between them and whatever diety or moral compass they possess, if any - I don't see it as our holy mandate to stomp out shitlords wherever we might find them, so again: just toggle OOC and don't whine about it, because whining is both fueling their rants and also quite possibly as annoying (if not more so) than the original rant that's taking place.

This is in percentages. So wearing an anomaly suit, anomaly helmet, latex gloves, and science goggles gives you 110% protection from the ill effects of anomalies.

We don't need a dedicated job for it; that just makes it so immersion-breaking. Just do little things within reason when you're not an antag, and larger things when you are. For example, even if you're a criminal who steals little things from other departments or embezzles gold coming through the cargo office, you'd still need a pretty damn good reason to kill someone and put yourself on the radar of law enforcement again. Just use common sense.

Only if you place an electric razor in the locker room and I can slip people and shave their heads bald.

We can have our cake and eat it, too. Who cares if they're having a shitstorm discussion about the merits of religious bukakke or whatever? Just toggle OOC and make it all go away. I don't see how this is so difficult, unless you can feel their words hurting you across space and time.

Maybe because the majority of players don't want to play that game mode that was originally winning? You're addressing something that isn't even a problem - if anything, it's an advantage. I usually do it to piss off people who're easily pissed off at stupid things like a single vote. Anyone can switch their vote at any time; they likely have a game mode they prefer anyways. If you like, think of the vote as having already been decided, but you just don't know what it is yet. Like the outcome of your first suggestion would be. I know, right? You got what you wanted and we didn't change a thing! If someone is so easily manipulated as to vote for something just because some squirrely symbols were stuck in front of it, we have bigger problems than the voting system. All the OOC conversation block does is serve to annoy me when I'm trying to have a conversation with someone, and if there's an individual spamming the chat box, that's another matter entirely. When you're trying to decide on a board game (archaic, I know) to play with your friends, you don't all write your desires down on a piece of paper and reveal them dramatically, telling the minority to suck it up because "YEAH MONOPOLY WON!" You decide together, and while the majority may want to play Monopoly, you may be unanimously satisfied with Settlers of Ctan - but you won't know that unless you talk. The only result of a system like the one you propose would be to lock us into extended every time the chair-RP group decides to vote together. Then, we'd get 2/3 of the vote calling to leave at the two hour mark, and now everyone's perpetually pissed off because we can't coordinate in OOC to prevent ourselves from voting extended in again. Sorry mate, I'm going to have to say no on this one.

Give them the little description add-on that a changeling using digital camouflage has. Something about being uncanny. That, or give them their own custom descriptor that's added to every IPC; despite the technological advances, I'm sure that IPC-people wouldn't be entirely indistinguishable from their organic counterparts. Let's see how many people still want to play 'shells' when they've got an "EMP me" sign on their back for antagonists to exploit like the rest of the IPC's, eh?

Complaint: Garn (Power Gaming Vamp)
EvilBrage replied to Jboy2000000's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Most implants do malfunction when they come into contact with an EMP. Death alarms go off prematurely, or fail to give a death location when they do finally go off, and explosive implants suddenly become very fun. Loyalty implants on the other hand are unique in that they do not, even though they probably should. There are only a select few circumstances in which it can fail, but these are few and far between for some reason. Lucky them. I wouldn't be nearly so unhappy with loyalty implants as I am currently if EMP blasts had a chance to make them break. I also firmly believe that we need more in-game prompts as to what the loyalty implant does exactly, as it's become prevalent enough to warrant some ground rules being set on what implants can and cannot do - because if we simply go by the in-game description, it merely makes you "more loyal" to the company. This could be interpreted in many different ways ("I won't kill all of the employees now, I'll just set off a bunch of bombs instead.") -
Because we wouldn't want any verbal cues that they're not the race they look like, now, would we? I said this while it was a mere suggestion and I'll say it again: the 'shell' thing was, is, and will forever be a stupid idea. I have no clue what led anyone to think the implementation was a good idea, given the mechanical advantages of the IPC, but I think we've gone far enough with it.

Aft Port Solars being a good place to die? Sounds legit. And here I thought nobody could see those diety facts, so I stuck THE EMPRAH up every time I played chaplain.

Not to mention the whole "infringing on commercial profit" requirement to even begin thinking about the pursuit of intellectual property laws, but I digress. I believe it was agreed some time ago that synthetics had more leeway to be referential than other characters, due to the AI creators basing some of their creations on pop culture and whatnot. I did cringe a little when I saw the AI was acting like a WH40K ork, but that's more of a personal criticism.

Player Complaint: Spooce & Reo neo cooper

I don't think we should be enforcing a rule stating people must remain logged in whenever security arrests them; I can understand an "I don't have time for this" sentiment, especially when it gets up there to 40+ minutes and the officers that arrested you have all gone SSD themselves anyways. This is a game, and if they don't want to put in the effort to make being imprisoned slightly more enjoyable than the norm, then fuck them. That said, these chucklefucks have obviously done enough to warrant some kind of punishment, but security is not the OOC police (as some players seem to forget) and disconnecting because you have better things to do with your time should not be punished with ban time - security needs a wake-up call to either be more interesting with detainees, or to suck it up when someone disconnects after being arrested. -
Staff Complaint: Garnascus (II)
EvilBrage replied to Jboy2000000's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I was under the impression that it extended through whenever the last genetic backup was taken of a character - that's what the link through the rules says, anyways. In any case, if they knew an individual was a traitor for well over an hour, you could at least have some fun with them; they've likely told all of the relevant authorities that they needed to, if they were going to. From what I understand, Garnascus is new and we could chalk this up to a learning experience, but I also have to disagree with his decision based on the information we have. Yes, perhaps they were reasonably expected to be armed, but we have a hostage-taking mode (or at very least, you could blow off his leg before you waltz up and make your verbal point) to prevent people from accessing inventories and the like while they're being held up. However. We're missing some information. A combat shotgun is a large item - did Jboy react and try to fight them as soon as they saw the combat shotgun? Was Jboy admiring themselves in the mirror before the antagonist wordlessly waltzed up and blasted his brains out? We need more context. -
I think this would be the case if everyone knew about it and consciously remembered this during the vote - I find this somewhat unlikely. Think about our regulars who don't use the forums, in addition to more casual players who aren't our typical Aurora citizens, and you'll see why. You could always plaster it on the home page, though, and see how that works out. I still stand by lowering the chance without removing it entirely - part of the splendor of secret is knowing that it's entirely possible that nothing will happen, in my opinion.

Telescience has never made sense to me. They can access very secure areas with a little bit of math - and moreover, all science personnel have access to it. It's kind of like like leaving an all-access card in the middle of the hall in case the captain wants pizza.

I'll make this simple for you. Here's what the rules say: Here's what you said: And then here's what I said: The conversation covered by the warning wasn't a meritorious discussion into the history of the swastika before it was adopted by the Nazi party. If you are truly so daft as to fail to realize that what you said could be potentially offensive, and then think you could somehow convince other administrators that quotes adopted by Nazi officials - as well as expressing the desire to be one of them - are not offensive or "hateful," then I don't think this is the server for you. -
Complaint: Rusty Sh4ckleford
EvilBrage replied to Uberzweihander's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
The monster can't grow if you don't feed it. Far as I can see, Uberzweihander and Mirkoloio were probably asking for it by bringing things OOC in the first place - from what Baka's posted, I really don't see Rusty going out of his way to taunt someone who hasn't complained about the events of the round, only dishing out harsh words after the supposed victims brought their cases to the court of public opinion. Of course, I don't have the logs, but we should probably take a closer look at who initiated the conflict in order to determine who the instigator was. As far as the actual language itself, again - Uber and Mirk are the ones who start with the words "cunt" and "rape," unless there are earlier iterations that Baka hasn't shown. Let's not get into BYOND pagers either; enforcing a code of conduct outside the game starts a huge spiral that Aurora really doesn't need. -

I think I know how this went now. There comes a point in time where we have to exercise common sense. I'm sure that at some point in your head, you probably thought to yourself "hm, maybe saying I want to be part of the Waffen SS isn't such a good idea." That's because it wasn't - I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we'd like to keep our racism and divisiveness IC in both state and relevance. Want to enslave the entire tajaran race? Feel free to boldly state that, but don't be surprised if a few of those #TajLivesMatter activists try to claw you in the face. See what I did there? -
I'm not too sure I like the idea of completely removing extended from the secret rotation - but I also don't think it should be weighted more heavily than any other game mode.
-
The only purpose that loyalty implants serve is to give me the extra challenge of removing the implant before I convert them to a cultist/thrall, and to upset me when it is decided that this will be my punishment for my antagonistic behavior. I invite you all to read this thread as well as the other numerous threads on this subject, but my thoughts are as follows: Your captain or head of security should not be a mindless drone, but they should also not be capable of antagonist roles - and let's get real, paperwork is only actually completed half the time.
-
Simple - "using" a pair of handcuffs or cable restraints in your active hand makes it appear as though you are handcuffed by examination. If you've actually gone through the trouble of removing a pair of cuffs without someone noticing, then you deserve to have the element of surprise when it comes to a potential ambush.

Sometimes, collateral damage is required to get the crew to wake up and for the ball to get rolling. Sometimes, that collateral damage is you. If you're so fixated on your character that you can't stand waiting the 30 minutes to respawn as a different one, the issue isn't with the game - don't make it sound like they're targeting you with the sole intent to ruin your fun, because you know that's not what it is at all. Of course, if you're one of those players who can do nothing but type 'FUCK YOU' over and over again while spamming the resist button once you're captured and/or incapacitated, there's really not a lot an antag can do with that. You're reading this and shaking your head, saying "that's not me, I would never do that," but if I were to say that 70% of my antag capture victims acted this way, that would be a low estimate - and that's depressing. Before we even look at bad antagonists, a far more damaging problem is the unwillingness of the players to accept that they can occasionally become victims. Trust me, most antagonists want to make the experience fun for everyone. My latest scheme involves a pair of Russian Revolvers and a single ticket to freedom - but if you insist on being a git, don't be surprised when no antagonist wants to deal with you in any capacity beyond removing your head.

There's nothing to do during extended rounds (apart from taking your RD mining so you can increase your research levels) because the very definition of "something to do" involves other people, and unless you have your chair RP niche, you're rather limited in your ability to create something for the rest of the station to do - your circumstance is an outlier, Japak. I've had to say this before many times, and I'll chant it until doomsday if I have to: If I wanted to simulate a 100% realistic work environment, I would go to work. This is a game, not a work simulator, and honestly if my fun little wizard gimmicks mean that we sacrifice a bit of realism, I have no qualms with that - I think most of you have enjoyed at least one of my wizard rounds, no? I couldn't care less what you want to call the server, the only thing that matters is that the individuals playing it are having fun doing so. We've gathered around Aurora because we like to have a more serious variety of that fun, and we use the term "Heavy RP" because it gives someone an idea of what to expect here - not because we are the arbiters of definition and we have deemed Aurora the heaviest of the RP's. "Heavy RP" is the icing. "Fun 2D Spessman Game" is the cake. I'd hate to have a cake that were comprised of 99% icing. I believe Baystation went in that direction.
