So, some seven odd rounds ago, I has an IC thing where I got my character turned into a slime person. Then, when sent to medical, I discovered (I literally had no idea about it) that slime people had no organs apart from a slime core. That got me thinking, why not put it in as a whitelistable race? The positives could be that, because you have no organs, you do not get organ damage and do not have to breathe (obviously). Downsides would be more susceptibility to cold, since freeze rays kill slimes easily, more susceptibility to pressure, since slime isn't the best structural base, and of course water is your bane. Brute damage would be less severe as well since, well, bashing and hacking slime won't exactly do as much. As for the lore, I think something fun could be done with this. As far as I know all races currently come from a planet (except for diona but plants are weird imo), but what if an entire race was created from an experiment? Xenobiology has been around ICly for a fair old while, and I can't imagine no one ever canonically (not necessarily player characters) turned into a slime person and was studied. You could expand on that, like, after it being deemed harmless, injections for people to be turned into slime people were produced, and volunteers could sign up. I haven't fully thought it out yet, but it's not worth working on if no one wants it. So, opinions, please? :3

Right, I have a bunch of characters, but the important ones/the ones I play the most/the ones I have a clear theme for are: Albert Gizro: Rose Gizro: Miles Houther: Yumi Yotin: Ranie Raf'Iqa: I have more characters that this, but I haven't played them in too long to give them a theme right now.

Right. I was under the assumption just shooting them like that (and with it, interrupting other people RPing with them) was a huge dick move and in conflict with the rules. Sorry, 1138.
-
The way it was explained to me, was that the vaurca did RP their eating of the lizard, loudly announcing it before doing it, and then getting scolded by several people right after. From their point of view, the CMO just shot them without saying/emoting anything beforehand, not having any RP interaction with them after that either. I understand the CMO had IC reasons to have a tranq dart on him and be wary of the vaurca, but tranqing them because of a mechanics thing they RPed without doing an emote first or something /really/ detracts from the vaurca player's fun. Which is the reason why I made the warning, you should keep everything you do fun for other players if you can.

TrickingTrapster's Moderater app
TrickingTrapster replied to TrickingTrapster's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I think the biggest downside on that would be that I know less of the lore than the others. I'm not that active on the forums because It's easy for me to forget that until it's needed. I'll try working on that. -
Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account:TrickingTrapster Character Name(s):Albert Gizro, Rose Gizro, Lyndis Aevisen, Chantal Faers, A.E.P.H.Y.S., Shalae Aeria, Eva Aeria, Zahia Hal'Ima, Ranie Raf'Iqa AI Name(s):OS-A.E.P.H.Y.S. Preferred means of contact: Steam. Steam name is the same as my BYOND name, except with a space in between. Age:21 Timezone:I live in the Netherlands. When are you on Aurora?:Usually when I'm not playing steam games with friends, or when I'm right out of school to relax a bit. Usually that means during deadhour, but I go on till around midnight, past midnight on weekends and holidays. Experience How long have you played SS13?:Since last summer vacation. How long have you played on Aurora:Since last summer vacation. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?:Nearly all of it. I only don't antag and haven't done atmospherics, HoS, or cargo tech/quartermaster. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:No, I don't. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?:I have not been banned. I do think I received one warning about using tildes as Lyndis, but I've dropped that since. Personality Why do you play SS13?:Because I really like roleplaying. Why do you play on Aurora?:My girlfriend got me onto the server, and I never left. What do moderators do?:They're like security to the players. If players break rules or need help, moderators should step in and resolve the issues that arose. Though only for situations that actually require their help, of course. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?:It means that you're somewhat of a safety net to the players against things like griefers, OOC squabbles and newbies not knowing what they are doing. Why do you want to be a moderator?:Because I'm (usually) on a lot and I feel I could help out with situations I'm sometimes involved in(like unwanted forced antagging.) What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?:I feel I'm able to listen to all sides of the story without jumping to conclusions, and not get angry over petty things like insults. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?:Depends on if this means my own anger or the anger of others. If I'm angry myself, I'm probably not playing SS13 at that moment. As for the anger of others, I remain calm and reply in the same calm fashion. No need to return insults, I'm there to be an example. As for stress, if I feel my stress level get to a high point, I take a bit to calm down before trying to calmly tackle all problems one by one. Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here) If I am approved, I'm going to be a moderater for the first time anywhere ever. The most experience with a position like that I've had was on a single session on a DnD-like map in warcraft 3. It ended... Somewhat well.

Make stealth drop on the heister hardsuit when attacking.
TrickingTrapster replied to Alberyk's topic in Archive
Oh god, YES to this title. That stealth suit is complete bullsh*t. Especially when combining it with an esword- Two hits for every kill? Won't matter how small your battery is, you can kill half the station without recharging like that. Maybe go about it like, since it's a SUIT, it doesn't cover weapons in your hand? So if you want to attack, you'll have to grab your weapon, reveal it, then attack someone. Gives people time to react while still being sneaky. Put away the weapon and get out if things go awry. Being completely invisible for every action you do is complete bs, no one can do ANYTHING against that, especially when they try to /roleplay/- that thing we're playing the game for- the scene out. PLEASE. Do something against this suit. It's not condusive to a fun round in any way. -
Guys, I think we're getting a liiiittle off-track here. From an IC standpoint, ERT is a perfectly viable solution in a code red situation with hostiles involved- Usually when half(read: all) of security is dead, or security was understaffed to begin with(Damn you, deadhour). If the antagonists have gone as far to get the heads of staff to go into code red, they have either screwed up or completed their objectives(I think, I don't antag myself). If they actually did a bit of roleplay with their antagging, and killed people after taking them to maintenance, roleplaying out tying them to a chair and then killing them with something, while the other player can roleplay back, I think the "deadchat warriors seeking vengeance" would drop substantially. So from my viewpoint, the problem is with the antagonists, not the ERT. They get the tools to do their job silently; If they do not use them that way, it is not the ERT's fault they get called in the first place.
-
A little double-edged on this. While the idea makes sense, I am also against forcing people to antag(I have had issues with the cult using soulstones on me before), but then again, I'm also against destroying cloning/robotics as those are the only things that can get players back into the game without making them wait 30 minutes, or just straight up killing players as it takes them out of the game in general. Honestly, if there's just a way of finding out someone has been slave-implanted, and there's a reliable way to remove it, that's fine by me. It doesn't sound as strict as AI laws, or as forced as cult or vampire, since people would see you implant someone just like that. As long as you can resist ridiculous orders ("shoot yourself in the head!", "steal the captain's ID off their suit!") and just have to, like, cover up for them or distract people by making a talk, I don't think there are huge issues with it.
-
Huh. I never knew. 2 christmas'es ago is very long, I didn't even play SS13 back then. Being part of one of those votes sounds exciting.
-
It could work, in my opinion. If you would make a thread on the forum where players can post their heads of staff they play regularly, then add those to an in-game vote, like with the player poll thing. It would be fun for an IC event, but that may be pushing it a little. I mostly find it weird why there are plaques for crewmembers that are never on station, the plaque being ten years old with a name none of the crew ever heard of. I was thinking if you were to replace it, do so with a player's character, so people can look at it and be like "Oh, hey, I know that guy."
-
So, I was playing Albert Gizro recently, and my eye fell upon the "best doctor" plaque that sits just before the upper CMO office entrance(on the exodus, anyway). That got me thinking: That thing is really old, won't there be a new election somewhere? So, here's my idea, don't know if it's possible or not, but how about a "Best [Department Head Of Staff]" vote? One for each department. So you'll have a best Captain, best HoP, best HoS, etcetera. Could even make it an IC vote, but not sure if that's going too far. Feel free to improve/expand upon this idea, I just felt I should put it out there.

Well, I imagine her to be somewhat curious to human customs, though reluctant to fully act on that due to her past with racist humans. She won't be quick to jump the gun, but will follow given orders. And she will probably be more open to other Tajara than humans. I'll have to actually play her a round to fully establish it, though I have a pretty good idea of what I want.

Arvak Morekborn's Unathi application
TrickingTrapster replied to Arvak Morekborn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Ah, Whispering Willow. Yes, I've seen that character around and I can say for sure this is a good RPer. Whether he will play unathi well, I can't say because I don't play Unathi myself, but I will give a +1 for good roleplaying in general. -
Complete Garbage's Head of Staff Application
TrickingTrapster replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I... Cannot give a solid plus or minus, I'm afraid. While I have RPed little bits with Alexia and Connor, and the RPer seems fine, I have not RPed with the character in question. Might want to play that character as a normal engineer first, let people see and know that character, before you let them judge him. -
So, I see most of these negative comments are based around Lyndis. Allow me to clear up a few things about her. First, the hairstyle. Lyndis is based on a character I made in a personal comic, who was based on Lyndis from Fire Emblem ( http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/0/0c/Lyndis.png/revision/latest?cb=20151014150234 ), hence why she has that hairstyle. Also, she does not ignore hair safety protocols around machinery, she binds her hair into a short braid before operating machinery like that, something that has 0 chance of getting stuck in machinery. Second, the tilde thing. I explained this in an earlier comment, so look it up if you want that explanation. I have a question for you, though: Why are you basing all your gripes on only ONE of my characters? I'm pretty sure I've been playing Albert Gizro for seven rounds in a row now, and one or two as Chantal Faers. I'd like to get some feedback on those. I got Gizro up as CMO, that's got to count for something, right?

BYOND Key:TrickingTrapster Character Names:Shalae Aeria, Eva Aeria, Chantal Faers, Lyndis Aevisen, Albert Gizro, Maria Sophis(A.E.P.H.Y.S.), Jack Faers Species you are applying to play:Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Ivory, as according to the page's M'sai usual colorations. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:I have. A bit much to take in, so I may forget one or two points, but I'll leave the page open for reference during RP if needed. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I have seen other people play Tajara and it seemed like fun, but I wanted to make some more experience as a player within different departments. Now that I have six humans and a robot under my belt, I think I'm ready for Tajara. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:The obvious things like speech patterns and Tajara languages, and some mechanical differences. But also the lore difference, as Tajara (are supposed to) get a lot of racism from their human co-workers. I will probably have to keep the different Tajara ethnicities in mind, too. Character Name:Zahia Hal'Ima Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphsBorn on the Tajara home planet of Adhomai, within the capital, Zahia was was born as third child to a relatively rich family. She and her siblings went to the same basic schools, but where her sister went into farming, and her brother into mining, she pursued her career as security cadet in Nanotrasen when she turned old enough for the academy. Being bombarded with racism from her human co-cadets caused social problems for Zahia, and as a result she had to redo one year of her cadetship. However, in the end, she pulled through, and had completed her academic training to be a security officer. She has been working as an officer for three years now, coping with racism here and there, but making friends along the way. While she is the target of racism regularly, Zahia is not one to lash out on verbal abuse. She learned that in the academy. What do you like about this character?I'm pretty excited to try out a new race to play as, as well as having a predetermined disposition. Though I guess that last point is more up to other players and less up to me. I still like having a new, well, "type" to play, as it were. How would you rate your role-playing ability?Taking it from my head of staff app, that still has not changed. I rate myself 7 or 8 out of 10, since I have seen people do it better than me, but also waaay worse. Notes:Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong in this alien whitelist app. While the head of staff whitelist guide is pretty clear how to apply, the alien whitelist leaves some explanation to be desired (from my viewpoint) and I had to look at other alien whitelist apps for examples.

Ah... I had no idea. Still, my point stands - I don't think the IC reason for genetics existing is to give people powers.
-
I think the main premise of genetics itself is lost here. I don't know from the top of my head if the powers are supposed to be known, but I don't think the powers are the reason genetics exists IC. Genetics exists to have the proto-people there for organ transplants and cleaning cloning defects. The powers may be the main attraction for most people, but the reason genetics is even built into the station is definitely NOT for the powers. At least, that's what I think.
-
Yes, this is a good concept. I don't like how people just keep self-testing every round. Though, maybe you should have like, a more suitable use for the powers? I always see only the geneticists with the powers, no one else really ever gets them, and the geneticists are never asked to really... -DO- anything besides cloning. And that's a thing even the doctors and chemists are able to do if they can get to it. Just an idea, but powers seem relatively useless station-wide at the moment.

Hello, Tricking Trapster here. Yes, I made an account for this app, but that's mostly because I had too much fun playing on the aurora to spend time on the forum. A thank you in advance for readin over this, for those who do. BYOND key: TrickingTrapster Character names: Shalae Aeria, Eva Aeria, Chantal Faers, Lyndis Aevisen, Albert Gizro How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Not too sure specifically, but I think it's been between 4 and 6 months. I didn't count. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:Well, the Aurora is the only server I play on, so I thought trying to get more involved with it. Why did you come to Aurora?:My girlfriend told me she knew a cool roleplaying game. Been addicted ever since. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes, I have. and, since 3 out of my 5 characters are applicable medical personnel, I have also been able to observe a lot of CMO's. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:What it is, taking roleplaying as a whole, not just SS13, is a group of players sort of writing a book, and only having a small amount of input: Their own character. The only thing they control. I think roleplaying should be about having fun and creating drama within said "book", according to the setting and lore. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To teach people within their department their jobs, like explaining mechanics LOOCly, and making sure their department doesn't fall flat on its face because members are SSD/missing. No one likes having to be dead from minute 5 without having someone at genetics or robotics. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:What they are... Well, I think I answered that in the question above. Teach newer players the mechanics, without dumping everything on them. And try to resolve issues that arise. Like, if someone disconnects in the middle of their work, take over. Certainly don't sit in your office all day. I'd uphold them by trying to actively be engaged within the department, keep checking on what everyone is doing, and trying to make sure no OOC arguments arise between them. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Albert Gizro Character age:73 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Albert Gizro grew up as a fit and very helpful man. No wonder, then, that he ended up in the medical department. He started out rough around the edges, but quickly became a respected surgeon. He had a wife, and a lively daughter. His drive to care for his family made him strive for a better job, so he took classes for more than just surgeon: Chemist, was the first. At his graduation ceremony, a rather impotent colleague was giving a demonstration, mixing the wrong chemicals. This resulted in a large explosion, with many wounded and dead. This included his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. Albert himself was mildly injured, giving him some minor recurring pains in the hips. He mourned for two months straight when he woke up in the hospital. This didn't stop Albert, however: He had a granddaughter to care for. To give her the best possible education, and make sure she had the best life she could, even without parents, he had to continue. Albert became an EMT, medical doctor, and geneticist. He became more grumpy during work, but never hesitated to help anyone needing it. As his field of expertise increased, so did his pay. He accumulated enough credits for his daughter to go to university, and she did very well. He's only seen to be smiling and happy all the time in the company of his granddaughter. Now, in his old age, walking with his cane in hand, he keeps working, to help his granddaughter accumulate some money for her eventual family. What do you like about this character?: I always like the old grumpy grandpa stereotypes in books and films. Yet they always have a reason for their grumpyness, and never are as heartless or as rude as they first appear to be. Out of all my other characters, this is also the odd one out, since it's an older male. I just generally enjoy calling other characters "sonny", too. and I just LOVe using the line "Don't you sass me, boy." What do you dislike about this character?: Since this is the only male in my roster, I have to constantly remind myself I am playing the older grumpy grandpa, and to not make slipups with "she" instead of "he". I also need to keep reminding myself not to forget the cane. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's got a little over 50 years of medical experience under his belt, worked in every aspect of the medical department and has worked with enough different people to be able to gauge them well. He'll prod people to work with his cane if they're nodding off, and praise them for good work, despite his attitude. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:I've seen people do it better, but I've also seen people do WAY worse. I don't place myself inside my character too much; I, the player, am a seperate entity from my character. But I know how to control my puppets. 7 or 8/10. Extra notes: I imagine Albert being a little bit of a mix between Old Joseph Joestar and Deckard Cain, in appearance. Minus clothing, of course. Also, if this application comes out wrong, it's because I don't know much about this BBCode hoopla.
