Yuri Daruski's Achievements

Barman

Barman (3/37)

  1. Personally I'm all for extra items to flesh out Off worlders. It makes them seem so much more unique, dynamic, or otherwise, rather than just giving them all NT equipment. These are folks that are constantly working with this stuff on their on shift so I've got no reason to believe why they wouldn't be responsible for their own equipment. Additionally basied on Lin-Yu's interactions she'll make good use of these items. From the short glimpses of the sprites I've seen, they appear to be very nice looking indeed to boot.
  2. Personally I'm a fan of Allakai, I've interacted with many of their characters and I havn't had one that I've felt has been a bad RP experience, whether I had known it was them at the time or not. Many of her characters retain a sort of humanity that is lost is some other characters. Some individuals have gotten on their back early on in their space station experience about a few deep lore nitpicky things, but as far as I know they've since rectified any or at least most problems with that. which if I have any criticism against a head role it would be a sense of relative newness to the station. Granted we are still talking seven months or so, which didn't really occur to me until this point but, I digress, time flies. In summery I have full confidence in their ability to perform well in their position, and to set an example of good role play to the rest of the crew, especially the newcomers as of late. +1
  3. Personally I am very skeptical of an approval of this application. if not on the negative side of such an action. As others have well stated OOC conduct has been an issue, in some cases IC conduct as well. While I do believe there are cases where perhaps something was said or done in one occasion that doesn't reflect the whole, but from what I've have seen and heard this seems to be a repeating thing. I shall not make those specific cases in this post however, as not to start any sort of drama or incite anyone, and instead focus on what they have said here I hope you all understand. And forgive the likely long windedness .. I'm a university student and apparently work in nothing but essays. These two statements give me some slight caution on how the user sees the head of staff position. I worry they see it much more as a mini-game master role. Included in this second quote seems to point toward a focus on a meta mentality when looking toward antags of the round. Rather than playing the role of one's character more focus is seemed to be placed on combating the antag in question. While there is no doubt a challenge will be posed to an antag during a round, I don't think going specifically out of the way to combat said threat, especially when there is a staffed security, is the purpose of an HoP, if that is what this is implying. Since this is a, "Unmade" character, it would have been nice to divulge just who this character might be, however all we get is a name and job title. The thoughts on Tau Ceti events seemed also a bit bare to me. having a completely new character is a bit of a gamble on my end to recommend, because I have no idea who they will be portrayed in game. This may be a veteran of some gang conflict, a Dominian who worked in a supply chain up the managerial levels, or a baldie who lied on his records. This would have been a great spot to tell us, those looking to give you support, information just /who/ this person is. Perhaps this is a petty argument though. Overall just … don't think this is the route you should take an application but … that's just me. call it unprofessional or, what have you, but it can be taken in a range of ways, usually toward the end of a negative connotation. Over the years of myself playing on the Aurora, I havn't really seen the user's players all that often. Whether to chalk that up to just the departments worked being different, being inactive, or perhaps just not being involved in very encompassing RP is left to be interpreted. However the lack of visibility speaks words in itself to me. With that, I can't make much for or against in that regard, other than observed events and other party information. Again, giving what I have heard and seen, I am very skeptical.
  4. I can't lie, given my past interactions with the character it certainly wouldn't be out of place. Looks like a fine addition to me.
  5. People seem to be either making a meme of this or calling how it's the worst thing in the world, at least the most vocal of people. Personally, I'm fine with this, After 6 years of playing SS13 and I've been on many different servers, many with, and many without adult themes, whether that be direct ERP or not. -At the moment I feel people's main frame of reference at this moment is not wanting the station to turn into Citadel, who's main focus appears to be on such themes, and is overall a rather low RP server. Some have said Role-play will suffer, where everybody will just be in maint giving each other the ol' toss in the bed and nothing will get done. I've been on medium role-play servers where it hasn't been an issue so I find it hard to believe on a heavy role-play station that "Station everything will grind to a halt". I highly doubt whatever introduction to 'adult themes' (as it is rather vague) will be nearly as forward or bad as people seem to be leading on to think. Or at least the introduction will be a gradual one, as he says it will be. At the moment there's a bit of an atmosphere where even kissing is kind of "Ew coodies" mentality in some of the crew at times. There's at times were I've been iffy to even /reference/ an adult theme just because of this station's distance to the subjects. If we're going for believability, then it's not hard to see that everybody on station is a normal adult on the middle of space, and given that /you work/ provides the station with a functioning bar, dorms, pool, and other such nontraditional work environments and situations, I don't see a reason for the company not to have taken into consideration 'adult themes' other than the pin-ups and spam messages of WetSkrell.net Additionally, one could say that many people seem to think the station is going to turn into an instant sin city type situation, and sure, for the first short while you'd likely see a surge (such as we recently saw with the gun selection) but even that said it wouldn't be nearly to the scale that you see of the guns, simply because, and I can't believe I'm saying this, it's easier to get a gun than get into a 'adult situation' (assuming it is direct ERP). I'd be hard pressed to think there wouldn't be any sort of regulation, for lack of better terms. I don't believe people need to be nearly as scared of this as they seem to be now, and many of our questions and concerns will likely be addressed in that "Legitimization thread" that is referenced in the OP
  6. That's an admin. I'm aware, is nominating an admin not allowed?
  7. I'd think whoever plays Lunea Discata would work well as a community manager (I only know their IC name). Seeing as they're pretty active on the relay and run the Shipping Manifest now. I mean that's mostly an 'good IC examples' list too so, take that as you will.
  8. Name: Yuri Daruski Species: Human Age: 26 Date of Hire: Jun 30, 2454 Job Title: Quartermaster/Shaft Miner Preferred Contact Info: Relay Account or PDA
  9. I don't understand this. They have a "Good" character, but the new character they made to play a different role is a Greytider? Greytide is an OOC issue, not an IC character archetype. Apologies, I ended up blending two points together, on one hand you've got a player that has a more known character, so if they have to bring in some other character that nobody knows just to be able to be on station, then it's not going to be nearly as satisfying as the character that has relationships, goals, and background on the station already. People are already sick of the constant, "Oh just play another character" argument and frankly I am too. additionally, bringing in a new character, or ever an old character that none of the player base knows and be a bit awkward. And the second point being to only give the onslaught of grey tide access to those roles before the other more dedicated players are stuck ..say ..mining for the rest of their character's life. Not all new comers are bad, or "grey tide" however it can be a problem at times, especially when departments like the service department can be very RP centralized, such as in the case of the bartender.
  10. The way I see it we are a Role play server not a "Role" play server. There likely are some people that play SS13 for the fact that it's a game and they want to do their jobs and could care less about player interaction. more power to them. However, I play to have my character interact with other members of the crew, with my job being a medium to do so, not the main piece. Personally I feel the more ways somebody can interact with the crew the better. While we could micro manage ever little possible thing and be like, "Well you can't play cook unless you're a 17-20 year old human from Mars that worked all his young life in his mothers kitchen on Mendel" it doesn't bode well for other players interacting. Personally, and this is just my choice, I play one character. It helps get into character a lot easier and they end up being more well rounded RP wise. on the terms of many of the civilian jobs I treat some of the "low skill needed" positions as "open shift" opportunities if nobody is working there and the station could use the hand. you don't /have/ to be a 5-star chef, or the top club owner of X planet to be a tender. I'd much rather see good RP from all kinds of players than just Grey Tide Bob, running X department because their actually good character is constrained to Y position. We could even go all the way down to "Oh well your character would realistically stay in their department and do their job else they'd get fired so all players can now only talk around water coolers and only use comms for important stuff" but that won't lead it good opportunities for people to interact. Now obvious the problem comes in when you've got an Engi/surgeon/Sec officer who knows the in and outs of the mechs. But I have more respect for people to understand that. Even in the real world some upper level personnel can be seen helping out the lower level entry positions if they are needed. I'm personally on the side of, lets give people more opportunity to RP, as long as it's not something completely unheard up. Yuri Daruski started in mining and moved up to QM, does that really have to mean he had that memory purged from him? I believe Incog brought up that heads of departments should know their departments and generally how to run them. I think this is essential, especially when training in new people tot the server like we've been having. If we just constantly give new comers "Find out ICly :)" responses that's honestly not going to lead to that person staying here. So to sum up, I'd rather not have people get overly complicated and anal about the job system, God forbid be have more role play opportunities between players. /as long as/ it's not a bunch of ERT vets that are engis medics and combat trained like we all like to joke about.
  11. As I said (Or at least hope I said) I have no lasting gripes about how the events eventually played out, The complaint was started before the round ended if memory serves correct (and posted after, adhering to the rules and all) so was likely influenced by sour feelings persistent from the round. The events were handled in-game by admins, and change of behavior was found. It took a while sure, but eventually things generally worked out. I'm not entirely sure what this complaint was set out to do, however I do not feel further action is required at this time.
  12. Seeing as I'm involved in this I'll be putting in two cents, now, understanding that I already attempted to make a reply but pressed the wrong button so, not wanting to rewrite everything this will be a bit shorter and less concise, hope it still helps. Being the first one killed, as well as being killed early-ish into the round, and early in terms of Yuri's life, I was able to watch most of the events play out. and I've come to the following conclusions: - Originally in the first hour and a half the following rules were broken and rebroken several times through the encounters of the several killed. save for the character who was involved with Faysal: "The primary goal of antagonists is to DRIVE A STORY AND TO GENERATE INTERACTION." (Apologies for the caps but that's how it is worded, not my emphasis), "Only resort to killing if it makes sense or drives a story", "No ganking" - A big part of being an antagonist is generating RP and interaction between the crew, and potentially for you and the victim, However, the actions presented generally boil down to "I need money" *slit throat for insta-crit* rinse and repeat. Most of these took place after only a few sentences, were out of the blue, and at times performed mid sentence, while perhaps it could be argued this is not ganking it is very close to it. - No interaction or clue was given to the crew about the disappearance of 5ish crewmembers, for a good hour and a half of the shift. At which point it did not take place until the actions of Faysal, who has meta knowledge of the happenings as well as our feelings on the subject, to go nuclear and run off to kill the merchant. He had several clues yes, so I will not accuse him to any sort of meta-gaming in this subject however the thought is still there. Additionally the bodies were left on the outpost, which is unable to be gotten to by any means but the merchant shuttle, that fact is a bit more of a complain on the map design but I digress, in summery it essentially removes those multiple crewmembers from he round. -In his defense Jackboot simply stated, "They could just respawn," as Candelaio mentioned. However I would argue, this being a Heavy RP server, it is very likely for in-game characters to have stakes/plans/running RP, etc. that one has to completely forfeit if one respawns. Which was the case with Yuri, who has been trying to make plans with Ellie and Blackwell for ages and the stars aligned that shift. Moreover not everyone plays a throw-away character, or has seemingly endless characters they pull from, such as SmrikingKirk does (No offence to him at all just an example seeing as he plays several) Personally for me I only place Yuri, he's been with me my five years of SS13, and I just don't really play anyone else, that's on me, but it's what I do, and it removes any sort of interaction if I'm removed from the station, without a word or trace, in a world where in reality that would cause some alarm, but in SS13 many would assume I'm SSD. People die in SS13, I get that I really do, 5 years playing this game that's a given, however there's good deaths and bad deaths and I watch 5-6 (However many I lost count) people die in the same poor way, which boils down to "Kill crew, get money" in a role where operations funding can get you three crewmembers worth of cash, with that knowledge one should know there is a much better way to kill of people than "I need money" *insta-crit* and at least make it a bit more enjoyable to the person you are removing from the round. -Answering the question, did he have a motive. Yes, he had a reason per say, And in a "realistic circumstance" it would be a valid approach and by all means believable. However in a role-playing game, such as SS13, some realistic plots do not work on an enjoyable level, for characters to die with little interaction and little to no hope of someone catching on. So while one /could/ argue he followed a story, it was not a good or enjoyable story for the majority of the participants. and no story was had until admin interaction/an hour after the first kill. Debatable even up to when Faysal went nuclear. I've seen Jackboot play for a long while, and he's not a chucklefuck from what I remember, however he should know better, and I know he can do better. I'm not as angry with what happened as I am disappointed in him. I don't mean to call him out for anything personally I'm simply saying I believe in him to do greatness, and he shouldn't be treated like any other rabble who's played for a week. -While I'm pleased that the interaction ended with semi-crew interaction, and the recovery of the bodies, I am disappointed in performance of this antag period and I know there are better approaches to be taken, I hope to see improvement in the future. and I am disappointed that it took one and a half hours before anything worth while happened, which at such point the round was already effectively coming to an end, seeing as I had five minutes out of the cloner before a shuttle was called (Probably not five minutes it's meant as a hyperbole). In summery I know there was a lot more I had planned and had talked about in my original copy, but I'll try to reply them when they come to me, or if anyone else responding to this complaint can remember some of the things I said in deadsay. Hope what I say helps with anything, thanks for reading this, etc. etc. *gets off soapbox*
  13. BYOND Key: BV1000 Character name: Yuri Daruski Item name: Martian Duster Why is your character carrying said item to work? Over the past few days Yuri has been becoming more open about his past on Mars. Part of him wants to bring it as motivation as his encounters with a certain someone which I’d rather not give away publicly on here (If it hampers the app process I can DM you the who and what) Item function(s): Nostalgia piece and possible conversation starter. IC-ly it’s a tougher fabric with a few small metal plates on in. Theoretically it could take a punch or two but I’m not so sure I want it viewed as powergamey at all. So if that seems like it could be the case the “stats” of a similar piece of in-game clothing would be fine. Item description: A Martian Duster. A longer coat made of a tough fabric designed to protect the wearer from the harshness of the Mars badlands found beyond the terraformed areas said planet. It appears this duster seems to have a few relatively thin metal plates attached to it. Two scorched holes can be found on the lower back, and three non-scorched holes appear in the upper torso in the back, with two lining up with two in the front. Item appearance: https://gyazo.com/592cd65f27ece8337233b1578b679a84 https://gyazo.com/bf84b87b0a595b060b3f4d3a129b0889 https://gyazo.com/3b094f5ea4e548a501dbcc4e3af2b6ca https://gyazo.com/846da6045b0e029d00bfdcb631fed3fe - Kinda reminds me of the Duster from Red Faction Guerrilla. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? This coat can add a plethora of conversation pieces for some deep RP if the players take time to peel off the layers of Yuri’s outer being to get at his past. Additionally, should it come to an antagonist round seeing the jacket again could sent him over the mental edge, being afflicted by a bad case of PTSD, or perhaps some sort of “sleeper agent” situation, giving a motive to the actions that can be built upon. I also would like to see how well the duster would complement the look in relation to the cargo department, having a similar color scheme. Additional comments: Additional notes: I would really like to test the outfit to see how it looks on an actual character in game. We've only superimposed Yuri's face on it but haven't taken it for a test drive yet. This is something I’ve been trying to be in since the days of BestRP and the Phoenix. As such we’ve never been given the proper chance to “Play test” it so to say, to see if we need to fix anything with the model. Big, super, tons of thanks to Renee Aria for helping me out with this outfit, doing all the actual pixel art. Both of us would really like to see it in action.
  14. Minecraft Username: BV1000 Character Name: Yuri Daruski Character Role: Filthy Peasant Short Bio: Yuri came from the lands of Derakal from a small mining village in the near the Rigel Hills. Internal and external pressure has ousted him from his lands and he searches on to find his new home. With this township which he has found he hopes to assist it in growing to better times. Perhaps he can "avenge" his crumbling home, by building another one up, that can stand, the test of time. He has left everything behind, materials and friends to form this new home.
