  1. Alright, I'll agree to that. The warning, as I said, will be adjusted to reflect reality: Namely, the issue of naming your religious Muslim group ISIS.
  2. Then why are you trying to say that action should not have been taken with the reasoning of "it wasn't really that ISIS"? So, at least partly for the sake of a joke. Repeat offenders are dealt with accordingly. There's a difference, however, between making an inappropriate sort of joke in OOC and creating an IC group/character for it. Furthermore, you don't see them get dealt with because you don't see admin PMs that are not your own. The fact that you do not see someone being punished does not immediately mean they have not been punished. This is not an attempt at explaining your actions. It is 1) A lie ("I'm not making a joke" followed by the forum claims of "I made the group called ISIS because it's funny" and "I chose it for Satire. I thought it was funny, and several others thought it was too, in OOC. ") and 2) Disrespectful, considering you're more or less saying "it's called roleplaying, relax". Yes, that's good.
  3. The warning text will be adjusted to accurately represent the issue. The issue is this: This is a heavy roleplay server. You made an Islamic group named ISIS, and then argued with a moderator when told that is not acceptable. You are attempting to use a sort of loophole (IE, "it didn't really mean the same thing ISIS does") to justify your actions. Point one: Your intent seems pretty clear. You, yourself, stated that it was attempted satire. Point two: Staff members, contrary to popular belief, are not obligated to argue with you in admin PMs - when a lengthy discussion is permitted, it is a courtesy from the individual staff member you are dealing with. If, after explaining the reasoning and circumstances behind your actions, you still receive punishment, and feel that the punishment in question was unjust, you are expected to drop the subject on the server and, instead, make a staff complaint. Now that the question of whether this was warranted or not has been addressed, we can discuss the manner in which it was handled. For that, I'll be waiting on Josh to post here. Fine print: Allahu Akbar does not, in fact, inherently have any connotations of terrorism.
  4. We will be clarifying what exactly is considered a violation of the IC in OOC rule some time in the future. As for the mute, the main motivation for it was already explained as not being entirely based on IC in OOC, but rather on attitude. It could have, of course, been handled in a gentler manner, but I do not see this as enough of a reason to reprimand the staff member in question. I will be locking and archiving this - if anyone has something to add or ask that might be relevant to this, you are more than welcome to contact me.
  5. Alright. As it's already been said, Tishina has no fault in this. Will be locking and archiving this.
  6. Will wait on Ryfer's input before commenting. Bear with us.
  7. This should be lifted by now. Archiving.
  8. This rule is (at least, I hope) crystal clear. You violated it twice within a span of three days. The fact that you were not banned on the first offense was a show of leniency, since, as you can see, "end-round grief is punishable by an automatic 3-day ban". I don't understand what exactly you feel is unclear or unjust here?
  9. Locking & archiving, then.
  10. Alright. Since the poster seems satisfied with the given explanation, I'll be locking and archiving this in 24 hours unless anyone has anything to add.
  11. Sigh.
  12. "I was a medbay doctor, minding my own business. Someone says they want to donate blood in the beginning of the round, okay I guess. Person gets to medbay, typical moeblob female character, stutters a bit. This is just HRP routine, I think nothing of it. I examine her with my HUD to see her blood type and -- ...Find out her medical record is a list of fetishes, with bestiality and BDSM on top of said list. The subsequent confrontation about the affair ended with every Unathi and Tajaran on the station forming a lynch mob against me. The round was still fun, mind you. It ended up with an ERT being sent to restrain the angry animal people, they were all hauled to the shuttle in cuffs. Then, someone started playing devil's advocate for bestiality in OOC because some people were actually OOCly salty that my character had ICly condemned bestiality. Aurora is a magical place." -Ebincluwne, on a /r/ss13 thread about lynch mobs Like, okay, yeah... is this the kind of playstyle you're looking to protect? Should we defend the absolute garbage of HRP? And yeah, I might surprise some of you by calling a group of players or a playstyle garbage, but, that's... literally what it is, pretty much. Thirteen-year-old furry fetishists, sparkledog-inspired mary sue creators, strange, basement-dwelling men who only roleplay teenage girls with long dyed hair and japanese names, people who do nothing but engage in light disney-PG13-sex roleplay touching each other in maintenance tunnels, and so on. Hell, they're at least prominent to a point, because we've even got a widely coined acronym to describe a specific group of them, "Suicidal Space Lesbians" (of which I've definitely witnessed quite a few). And sure, I might not actually play on Aurora quite that much anymore, but these kind of people have always been around, and I'm pretty sure they'll always be around, especially since I can mention we've got our share of recent stories and threads reporting on their existence (or on the incomprehensible need that some people have to whiteknight them). You can go with the politically-correct route, and turn Aurora into a hugbox. And sure, these people are gonna be happy, and Aurora won't be "cool" anymore, and it's still going to be a HRP server though a different brand of it, a brand that some people will hate and that other people will be very happy to have (but a brand I think already exists in a lot of places, while the slightly cooler and slightly more judgemental kind doesn't really seem to exist in HRP anymore). And I guess I'll be a little disappointed to see that happen but whatever. So, my question is, do you want to defend these players? If so, why? And to which extent? First of all - I was there for that incident and a great deal of that story is complete and absolute bullshit. Moving on. Yes, I'm going to make sure people can play as they please as long as they maintain a modicum of civility and adhere to the current rules. If you do not wish to frequent the same server as these people (which, might I add, are rare as fuck) because you see them as being below your standards or "garbage", then allow me to politely remind you that you are more than welcome to exercise your right to withdraw.
  13. I count a handful of "disgusted, excluded" veterans. We'll survive. Do you know what the REASONABLE thing to do would be when your unsolicited criticism is poorly received by the target individual and clearly unwanted? Stop giving it, they're clearly not listening. It's REALLY SIMPLE. Pressing any further will fix absolutely nothing. Apparently this is a sacrifice too massive to be made, however. And yet on we go, calling people huge pussies, brainless, etcetera. I applaud you.
  14. Calling people daft and halfwits is not criticism. Mocking people is not criticism. Hide behind a veil of trying to "improve" them, if you will, but I will not allow anyone to be publicly shamed out of a certain playstyle. If you want to criticize, do so in a manner that won't piss people off, or don't do it at all.
  15. But that would solve nothing. Some halfwits actually believe they're perfect, and of course, the same daft people take critisizm as a personal attack, rather than something one should try learning from. And by aggressively confronting and insulting people, you have solved even less. You've taken a step BACKWARDS, not forwards.
  16. There has to be some sort of middle ground that does not completely suck. The problem is discovering it.
  17. It's a very, very basic rule we have, on both the forums and the server. Criticism isn't the problem, tiny tidbits of criticism being surrounded by many thinly-veiled jabs is. If one cannot exercise the amount of self-control required to refrain from violating this rule, deleting their posts can hardly be called censorship. In short, if you want to make your opinion known, don't be a dick about it and you'll be fine - no one is going to delete your post simply because they disagree with it (and if they do, I am likely to bite them).
  18. Oh, I'm ASKING people to speak their mind. The problem is that the most vocal of them cannot differentiate between speaking their mind and shitposting. As for that thread, rest assured, it's being sorted out.
  19. I think that's pretty pessimistic. Things are hardly anywhere near beyond repair (for most people, with, admittedly, a handful of exceptions). From what I've been told, this isn't the first time this sort of thing happens. I find that almost everyone has an idea of what's "wrong" (at least, what they perceive as wrong), but when it comes to being asked for proposed solutions, most of them tend to shy away. Of course, having a course of action to suggest doesn't automatically translate to having the solution. We have the hilarious "delete the staff" types, and then we have the opposite, equally hilarious extreme. I'm trying to pick out what's reasonable or likely to help from whatever anyone proposes, and figure things out from there. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer.
  20. Small semi-off-topic explanation Ultimately, yes, you've explained what you believe is fucking everything up. Discussing whether it's accurate or not or whether I agree or not is beyond the point. My main question: What would you do about it?
  21. Allow me to start with an accurate of how we have been acting, as a community, in the past month. Now that we've made that clear, I have an honest question to ask. What do you want? Yes, you, the reader. Do you know? I have the distinct feeling you may not. Consider this an invitation to figure that out. If you need help with figuring it out, you're free to PM me or contact me through whatever means. If you think you already know, you're strongly encouraged to give me a concise summary of your issues through whatever channels you see fit, preferably choosing one through which we can have a normal, private conversation, uninterrupted by the various mooing and roaring and growling prevalent on the forums. You're also free to post your main concerns here, taking into account two points: This is not for open debate, arguing, or anything of that sort. I reserve the right to delete any posts I feel don't belong here.
  22. Friendly reminder.
  23. You see, the point of this whole thread, is because Jakers was being all social justice warrior, thinking that there is actually homophobia in this matter of SSLs. I only made my post to tell him, that it is not how it seems to him. This wasn't necessarily aimed at you, but anyone who had the impression that seeing someone as a poor RPer is just cause to harass them.
  24. Someone's roleplay being perceived as below your own standards does not permit or justify their harassment. It will not be tolerated. There are two options here: A) Suggest improvements for them in a polite and constructive manner and hope they consider what you've said. B) Shut up and simply RP with someone else. Edit for clarification purposes: I'm referring to RP that is not against the rules. If it is, do as Skull says.
  25. Unlocked. Will not hesitate to lock again if things become dumb. Please don't make things dumb. Dumb includes, but is not limited to: Reposting/quoting binned posts without getting staff approval to have the post restored. Making more off topic "fuck the police" remarks. Discussing forum mod conduct - this should be taken to the recently-created complaint thread, instead.
