  1. @Peppermint and I will handle this. As usual, a general reminder to only post if you have something to add in terms of actionable information in the form of logs, timestamps, images and such. If you are unsure if your posts would be allowed, seek permission from either Peppermint or I.
  2. So looking over this, I feel like @ShesTryingshould have at least tried to provide one example to better explain the issue or to articulate it with you. That is not to say we’re required to go into multiple novel length examples, but in this case an example or two to better explain the issue and how to avoid it would’ve been appropriate. I didn’t really see any passive aggressiveness on the side of @alt4s but rather they seemed frustrated, which I can understand. Being given copies of entries of our rules while not understanding what was wrong and how I could’ve done better would be frustrating. To summarize. An example would’ve been within the scope of the ticket and appropriate here. It would’ve been brief and if it dragged on, could’ve been stopped.
  3. @Garnascusis busy so I'll be taking over this. Expect it to be resolved by the weekend hopefully.
  4. Sorry for the delay, been sick for the last few days. To start off, the opening post was inappropriate. Normally we'd hide but since it is the OP post, I've just deleted it. If the OP would like to keep this discussion going, they'll need to rewrite it in a more appropriate format. Second of all, in regards to creepy behavior. It's not an everyday thing, but it does happen. It is not exclusive to game modes, and the best way to deal with it is to report it and we'll handle it. Third of all, when joining the round, especially in secret, there is a list of all potential game modes, so by joining it, you are doing so with the understanding that you may get involved into the antics of game modes you do not particularly enjoy. Though in saying this, we understand that we cannot force you to play something you do not enjoy and try to accommodate the players as best we can, within reason. Lastly, Aurora has many themes to gameplay that are things we wouldn't particularly like, the line between appropriate and inappropriate portrayal falls on the community member bringing it. Though there are a few things that do receive more scrutiny, with erotic things receiving a complete ban. Unlocking now.
  5. Locking this temporarily until I can address a few things brought up.
  6. Hello everyone. We hope you are all doing well. It has been another tough year across the globe unfortunately, with COVID-19 still affecting our lives, the new variant causing a spike in cases. Though hopefully, with vaccination and booster numbers on the rise, the end of the pandemic is hopefully close. The staff hopes that with the new year having already arrived for some, and soon arriving for the rest, that better days are on the horizon for everyone. We sincerely hope that things improve for everyone, which is what Aurora is about, a community that has a medium that brings joy to us. Much like last year, Aurora has grown, and positively. There are always rough patches in the life of a community, but what is important is that we learn from it and move it. The staff team has had many people join it for the variety of roles, and to those still around along with those that have retired, a thank you for their efforts in making Aurora what it is today. We would also like to thank the contributions of the community as a whole for making Aurora what it is today. This community is the result of the collaborative effort of everyone that is part of it or was part of it. Another big topic this year is the NBT, an example of the collaborative effort between staff and community members. A project in the making for the last few years, with an announced play testing date set for the 22nd of January. It is our hope that it will be an enjoyable experience. It is also important to note for projects like these, constructive feedback is vital to ensure a positive growth. To copy something we said in the last annual letter. We appreciate you. Old or new, you have all been a boon to this community, each in their own way contributing, making friends and giving us memories that we cherish. You are all what makes this community special to each of us and we are happy to have you here with us. We wish you the best. Times have been hard, we have all handled some measure of hardship this year. We truly wish and hope the best for you, and hope this community has been a respite this year. Be nice to each other. The community benefits from being friendly and inclusive. So be nice to each other, and even should any of us be rude or crass to another, know that there is nothing wrong with apologizing. Life is too short to hold on to grudges or bad feelings when it can be corrected. Even the people with the best intentions can make mistakes without malice, and it is our belief you all have the best intentions. Lastly, the staff team would like to take this chance to encourage people to adhere to appropriate safety protocols and precautions as prescribed by medical professionals during this recent resurgence of COVID-19. Thank you for the good memories, and we hope that more are made as the community continues to grow. Happy New Year!
  7. So from what I see here is that no party was really malicious here. I’m not finding any issues in this particular case beyond it being a case of miscommunication that involved parties will keep in consideration for the future. @KesterShadowHair While you didn’t intend to phrase it as a direct kill order, it felt to me as an outsider that you ordered a kill command on Jenkins. In the future, just be aware that Captain orders will often be taken literally. If you told command to jump, they’ll jump. In this context, “taking them out” and “your orders standing” can easily be taken as a “Yes, I really want them dead”. So it really boils down to the choice of words here. @NerdyVampire I’m going to quickly elaborate on a few points you made. 1- While there is a distinction between corporate regulations and actual laws, there are circumstances where characters can be justified to set them aside to complete a task. Captains are given absolute authority and Biesel essentially being a corporate shill, there is an overlap between the two. There are incidents where executions not being legal, have sufficient build up to justify it, despite it being “illegal”. 2- In regards to how the execution was carried out. While ideally it is better if there were no witnesses, it probably would have been a worse situation if you were dragged to medical or somewhere else in terms of aftermath for executions. Had they brought you to the holodeck after treating you for a public execution, then that would definitely cross the line. This is not to say executions should be a common thing, they are a very infrequent thing, and if we put aside that the execution order came from a miscommunication, I feel it was appropriate given the explained timeline of the round itself. So to summarize. Captains should be careful when describing their orders, wording is key here. Executions are illegal but if extraordinary circumstances occur, people can do what they feel must be done, within reason. This incident was a result of miscommunication, they happen and we learn from them for the future. @Faye <3 In the future, I do recommend that you shoot a quick Ahelp when you get an execution order to make sure it’s alright. It’s completely okay to ask us for permission before doing something extreme. And as a final note, this is more or less being treated as resolved. I’m going over the logs to make sure everything lines up, so if everything here is true and nothing is missing, this’ll likely be the final verdict.
  8. @KesterShadowHair When your character told @Faye <3 character that the order to take them out still stood, did you say that with the intention that @NerdyVampire character gets executed? I’m seeing that there’s a confusion of intents between characters here.
  9. The way that interaction went gave me a lot of red flags to the degree that concerned me. Though your explanation here does explain your motives a bit better. Appeal accepted and ban lifted.
  10. I had some time to look at this today. You sent a ticket which I took asking questions about our tolerance for modern use of slurs and racism, you even used a very clear example on it. After my explanation that it is not tolerated, you gave the impression that you were not a fan. Based on this interaction I felt you were not the best fit for this server given how the interaction seemed to highlight how crucial the above element was to you based on our interaction. The rules state that they do not cover every case and we have discretion as staff. I’m not completely opposed to lifting the ban. But before I consider it; I need to know why racism and slurs was important to you in combination to it making you seek another server upon clarifying what is acceptable here and what isn’t.
  11. Escalation of punishment standards are for people we believe can redeem their conduct. My jump to the immediate permanent ban is because I’ve held no belief that you can redeem yourself. We reserve the right to escalate beyond the norm for cases of great significance. You are never allowed back here because you cannot be trusted. It wouldn’t be fair to the victims. Appeal denied.
  12. @ShesTrying and I have looked into the complaint. The verdict is as follows. 1- On the account of Rooster not being specific about the issues, we feel his initial explanation of the issue was sufficient and did provide you with examples on the issue at hand. The issue with this ticket was that it did head off into off-topic things, and when Rooster felt he had the right answers to his initial question, he declared it a non-issue and found you without fault when it came to your Warden play. Ideally the ticket should have went like this. Staff: "We have reports on A, some examples cited were B, C and D. Can you explain your side of things?" Player: Explains their side. Staff: If sufficient information is present, renders judgement. Otherwise asks some more questions. 2- On the account of lying and disrespect over the topic being in the Warden room. We don't believe Rooster was specifically disrespecting you or calling you a liar, during a round, the perception of time can differ, and it can result in different perspectives, it happens. The thing is, the Warden office does not seem to have much importance on the ticket, so we do feel that Rooster should've been firm in stating the irrelevance of it instead of engaging it, which seems to have allowed some of the issues in this ticket. 3- In the future, if you feel like staff are being disrespectful towards you, it is best to expedite the ending of the ticket, preserve the logs and then make a staff complaint.
  13. I denied your last appeal given you decided to harass me on discord. But since it has been a few years since then, I'm willing to give you a chance. Appeal accepted.
  14. I'll handle this. Please adjust your post to follow the correct format.
  15. In the future, make sure you familiarize yourself with the sub-forum rules. Complaints and suggestions tend to have specific rules that govern what new threads should adhere to and when to post on said threads. In this case, do not post complaints while rounds are ongoing. As for this complaint, given you haven't raised any issues with my reply, I'm going to treat the complaint as resolved with no action being done towards @Peppermint. The thread will remain open for another twenty hours in case anything new is brought to my attention that may change the verdict. If nothing is present, the thread will be locked, archived and marked as resolved.
  16. The spoiler has the ticket logs. I don't believe I'm missing any lines. From what I can identify, there are two issues being reported here. 1- The inability to discuss the ticket more in-depth. 2- Labeling what you say as an excuse. I'll start with point #1. In general, we aren't required to have lengthy discussions with the person, especially when you don't make it clear that there is more pressing information. Your reply tells me that you didn't disagree with the issue raised as described and tried to justify it, and then saying you won't do it again. This to me looks like you conceded to the issue raised here. The reason we aren't required to have extended dialogue is that it can become circular, which it does very often so we have to put our feet down. Additionally, three minutes is a fair amount of time to deal with issues. So to summarize, in the span of three minutes. Peppermint raises the issued, you conceded but tried to justify it, Peppermint replied by explaining why certain aspects made the justifications moot. I see no issue with this point. For point #2, the word excuse isn't immediately a negative word. You tried to excuse/justify certain aspects of what happened, she replied by stating that they aren't good excuses, or in other words that they are moot. Which I agree, just because there are other staff around, does not mean they have specifically spotted this issue. Issues are handled when spotted by us or reported to us. I also see no issue here. Onto another issue. You posted this during an ongoing round, which is clearly stated as a forum rule violation. You even acknowledged this. Why didn't you wait until the round was over?
  17. I’ll handle this complaint. A general reminder not to post in staff complaints unless involved in some capacity that is relevant to the complaint.
  18. Enough time has passed since any major rule violations, namely the ban in question and the other server ban you mentioned. Appeal accepted.
