BYOND key: Geeves

Character names: Geoff Lufvio, Grayson Mintfill, Harvey Isemann, Touch of the Light, Ruzaaki Ih’akhar, Aruzi Ozehko, Ksahoi Laeski, Kuhserze Ioraks

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Roughly seven months now.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I believe I’m at the crossing point of roleplay, mechanics knowledge and responsibility to take on more important roles aboard the NSS Aurora.

Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend actually introduced a group of us to it by hosting a private server using Aurora as codebase. Unfortunately some troubles caused the group to disband and I, alongside some others, sought out the real deal, so to speak.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Currently I’m only wanting to play Chief Engineer, and have read this entry many times, thoroughly. Naturally when I do move over to the other head roles, I will do the same to them.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: My view on roleplay is quite simple, really. I think it’s just an outside player, playing a character in-game. Much like an actor playing a character. To this end, I myself don’t really live myself into characters, instead seeing all the events as a play on a massive stage. The combination of out-of-player-control events and player roleplay intermingling to create quite the impressive play.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOCly, a Head of Staff player should direct newer players to avenues whereby they can learn new facts, tips and tricks, and perhaps hidden nuances of the department they participate in. Whilst this may garner me some hate, I also believe the Head of Staff have a responsibility to not hog antagonists and give them some leeway to interact with the rest of the crew.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, the Head of Staff player has the responsibility of always generating an excellent roleplay experience for everyone they interact with. This may clash with my validhunting past, but I believe I will be able to keep it under lock and key when I play in a position of importance. I will attempt to uphold the responsibility, and somewhat my own personal morals, by staying my blade. (I had to.)

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Kuhserze Ioraks

Character age: 30, soon to be 31.

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ioraks was born in S’th, to a typical Unathi household. He is the only child of his parents. As he grew up, his visits to his Shaman’s various topics and learnings revealed an interest in mechanics and engineering. He began to tinker with any devices he could get his hands on, as well as building a small wind pump for his family home. He attended school at S’th Primary and Higher, where he received average to above average marks.

After school, he was put into Lord Azioli Karkartus’s Levy. He requested to be put into an engineering branch, which was accepted under the condition that he attend additional engineering classes at the S’th University, run by the Akazars Engineering Guild. Here he received intricate knowledge which later helped him find his job aboard the NSS Aurora.

Aboard the Aurora, Ioraks has been working as a Station Engineer for some time. In recent months he has begun being assigned as Interim Chief Engineer by Captains that recognize his ability and willingness to lead. This has caused him to pursue the position of Chief Engineer, having recently gotten his Doctorate in Engineering at the aforementioned S’th University.

What do you like about this character?: He is (mostly) an upstanding Moghean citizen representing his Species proudly aboard the NSS Aurora. He is quick to take the lead and leads somewhat effectively. He has a very general skillset covering most spectrums of Engineering which would be invaluable as Chief Engineer.

What do you dislike about this character?: He isn’t as harsh as he should be. He is known to treat Guwans as people fallen on hard times, despite their status as the lowest of low. He handwaves petty crimes often as it is “not his problem”.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He knows how to lead, as he was part of a Feudal Levy, experiencing excellent leadership first-hand. He knows everything a Chief Engineer ought to know thanks to his work aboard the Aurora and the additional studies at the University. Additionally, he has knowledge of station regulations and the nuances of station etiquette. Having been Interim Chief Engineer three times previously, he has gathered knowledge about how other heads operate and how he should mesh in the whole command structure.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10, sometimes I mess up hilariously.

Extra notes: I wrote this whilst being somewhat sleep deprived, as always. Any comments, feedback or angry angry suggestions will be read and worked on!

All the RP that I've done with Geeves has been with Kuhserze, and I've loved every minute so far. He's always done great at teaching others a number of facets of engineering, among other things, and does a good job when he ends up becoming a de-facto leader at other times. I think he's got the stuff, and would honestly love to see him as CE.

So you've finally made your head app, neat, cool. If you had posted this a few months ago I'd have actually rolled my eyes a bit and been worried of you going combat CE every single time. But you've addressed this yourself, and you have indeed toned down a few valid-hunting tendencies. So I don't think this will be a particular issue should you get your whitelist, especially if you are aware of it yourself.

Moving on to the more positive side of things. Geeves is a good role-player, I've never witnessed him breaking character or doing silly shit ingame for the sake of doing silly shit. He is more than capable of playing a believable and realistic character that are fun to interact with. Aside from playing an engineer that doesn't know not to touch live wires without gloves. I do believe he's capable enough to handle a command whitelist, so it has my support.

live wires are actual hackers, they need a nerf. I'll add Ioraks to the list, I swear I did but oh well.

Thanks for the feedback!

Alright, so.

I know that engineering is kind of a circlejerk right now, giving empty +1s to each other, but I'll do my best to not stick to the formula.

Geevo is someone who's pretty much every race whitelist ever, so it's not a surprise that his biography is well-written, touches on different pieces of lore, and is accurate. The application has no grammatical errors from what I can see, and it's well-made in general, so kudos on that.

In terms of mechanics, he knows his shit, and he knows it well. The only thing that concerns me is his knowledge about Atmospherics, but I'm pretty sure he'd be able to learn the advanced aspects of it relatively fast, with the help of myself, and Flamingo, who're more than eager to help.

His OOC attitude is well, and rarely if not ever have I seen him have problems with other people. I'm sure he would be able to solve any problems relatively easily.

His RP is definitely above a 7, and I've personally witnessed that the shifts we played together.

One thing that might pull him down a bit is the fact that he may have an untrustworthy vibe due to playing antag waaay too fucking often, but that's IC, and I'd rather have people remember that.

Overall, I'm sure you'll be an alright CE, really. Just calm down on making plasteel spears. (!)
