Lady Fowl Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/commit/aa61badaf7b5df3ef08def0acf853961d23b5b2c I understand why Genetics was removed but would it be possible to revert part of this commit Its useful for science to be able to develop protohumans for the use of limb or vitals replacements when needed or when testing on human subjects if virology needs to.
Resilynn Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 You can still build a genetics lab in science no problem, and protohumans can be purchased from cargo.
Lady Fowl Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 You can still build a genetics lab in science no problem, and protohumans can be purchased from cargo. Not sure if you read the commit but, the entire circuit board has been fully removed from the code
LanceLynxx Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 You can still build a genetics lab in science no problem, and protohumans can be purchased from cargo. the board was removed from R&D. you can't make genetics equipment.
Resilynn Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I dare say! We need that back immediately. I haven’t seen anyone abuse it since we got rid of the geneticist position. And it’s useful to have around. Like, really useful. It’s the only way we can undo some damage done by radiation storms.
Arrow768 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Its useful for science to be able to develop protohumans for the use of limb or vitals replacements when needed or when testing on human subjects if virology needs to. Voting for dismissal. It is possible to order protohumans, prototajara, protoskrell, protounathi and protovaurca via cargo.

Voting for dismissal. It is possible to order protohumans, prototajara, protoskrell, protounathi and protovaurca via cargo. But it's expensive and time consuming, and needs Cargo to be staffed. Really slows down any tests or research, especially if it involves lethal things, then you need to jump through all the hoops, have enough money, and competent cargo to get more.
Arrow768 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 But it's expensive and time consuming, and needs Cargo to be staffed. Really slows down any tests or research, especially if it involves lethal things, then you need to jump through all the hoops, have enough money, and competent cargo to get more. A vaurca drone costs 400 credits with shipment and takes 4 minutes to get there. The following people / entities have the requited access to order stuff from cargo: 2x Cargo Techs 1x QM 1x HoP 1x Captain 1x AI 2x Borgs (roundstart) (and atm even the shaft miners, altough thats a bug)
ben10083 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I agree with arrow on this one, this allows cargo techs to actually have something to do besides sorting warehouse, I encourage stuff like this and other stuff similar to this. Not to mention if it's too expensive you have a department account for this very situation. -1
Resilynn Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 And undoing genetic damage, like skin color changes, after radiation or anomalies? How else do you suggest those are handled?
Lady Fowl Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 If there worried about people using it as a way to access genetics, you can simply remove or commit out that code for the powers
Arrow768 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 I dont remember the last time we needed to construct genetics to be able to cure someone of damage received from a rad storm. It is very rare that someone gets caught in a rad storm, because there is enough time to get into a maint tunnel. Also, I believe that it is perfectly fine if some conditions are not treated until the end of the shift. The Aurora is not a medical facility.
Scheveningen Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Ryetalyn cures all genetic disabilities. It doesn't cure changes in genetic structure which is unfortunate but that side effect from rad storms is extremely rare.
Saudus Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Would much rather see the boards returning and the genetic powers ripped out of the code. They're the issue IMO, not the protobeing stuff. I agree with Arrow however that it is perfectly fine that a person gets left untreated with the genetic damage for the shift, and it'd probably usually happen anyway because of who are on staff and various circumstances. One of my fondest memories on the Aurora was when I got a shift spanning project from Arrow's Captain char and made a prisoner implant system with my then main Adam Harrow. I'd lost a hand from electrocution a while before in a round not directly due to antags, so I made it lore. The char despised the prosthetic due to personal philosophical reasons and managed to get a protohuman clone made of themselves to get a replacement hand as a reward for inventing the system for NT. Now, it could have just been done behind the scenes "on the Odin" or gotten the cash and went to Zheng-Hu, but that frankly isn't as fun.
Resilynn Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I was literally hulked days ago and left green. Also, I use the cloning machines to regrow organic limbs for people, matching their skin tone. It's made for great RP, I'd hate to lose it.
