FreshRefreshments Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 BYOND key:FreshRefreshments Character names:Erin MacGregor, Mer’tala Kaemah, Suzuul Guwan, and Mjraarjiarr Roshtanov are the main 4 right now. Full list is in the Signature. How long have you been playing on Aurora?:A few months, I am very bad with timing. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:I want to be able to take a leadership role. Taking an important position makes me feel responsible, and trusted, and that in turn makes me feel good. Why did you come to Aurora?: I always tried to RP on Oracle, which is what I played before I came around on Aurora, but it was always MRP when I was on. At first, I hated Aurora, as I took a Psychologist job without knowing really what I was doing. But, then I took Bartender, and found the amount of interaction I got was fantastic. Its refreshing, dare I say. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:I believe that roleplay is about creating a story that people have a hand in creating. People get the choices to see the story unfold, and in some cases impact it themselves to an extent. Its about being one of many writers. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:In game, they take the lead of their own departments, and often in the case of when the station comes crashing down, they are the ones who organize things to keep people safe. Its basically, a tether. Something that can keep everyone else in line with their position, and keep them on track. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:Whitelisted players are there to be a trusted source of information. Many CEs you could ask anything about the Engine and they would know it by heart. Someone you know you can go to, if you have a question. Mentors, there to make sure anyone working knows how to perform their jobs. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Erin MacGregor Character age:31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born in the year 2429 on Sol-3 in Ireland, Erin MacGregor from an early age had a number of health issues that culminated in requiring a mechanical heart before she was in school. Even through her youth, she rarely paid attention during school, instead preferring to spend her time rough-housing with the neighborhood kids. As she grew into a young adult, she found employment within numerous low skill level jobs, including a short spell as both a janitor and a warehouse worker, before she found a sudden and profound interest in an unexpected topic; the human mind. Erin managed to snag a spot in the Lunar University of Medical Science (almost all of her grades being average aside from Psychology), and after getting through with her core classes, started to take up Psychology classes. It was here she managed to fall in over her head; through a combination of a very fast, close friend named Jake Dean who exacerbated her drinking problem, and a few accidents that accumulated in her best friend dying shortly before managing to be revived, and another crash while drunk driving that resulted in the loss of one of her arms, she dropped out, entering back into the service business. After dropping out, she took to Tau Ceti, using her few years of Psychology and her heritage as an easy way to get working in bars. In more recent news, she has taken to Human Resource classes for her temper, aspiring to be a Head of Personnel. What do you like about this character?:Partially, its nostalgia. Ive had her for a long time. She was my first character. Shes passionate, if a little overaggressive (which is why she was told to take Human Resource classes). She likes to stand up for what she believes is best, and is hard to deter from such. She tries to be open minded, as well. What do you dislike about this character?:She does have a nasty temper, which, while its been helped with her time in Human Resources, can still show shades in the right cases. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:Shes got a few years of Psychology under her belt, along with her time spent in the service industry, dealing with people. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:7-8/10. I do try, as much as I can, to interact with people. Im far from perfect, but I do try. Sometimes, it gets the better of me, as I try not to initiate fights out of a worry the other person isnt finished RPing truly. Sometimes I act quickly Extra notes:Please, any constructive criticism on how I can improve the app would be really appreciated! I also really dont plan on playing anything other than Head of Personnel, since Service and Supply is where most of my characters are, and thats my field of expertise.
geeves Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 -1 For that refreshment pun. But no, seriously. Fresh is pretty high up there in "good RPers". They have quite a solid grasp on the game's mechanics and I trust that they'd be able to handle the responsibility of Head of Staff pretty well. Having known this character from previous off-server and on-server RP experiences, I think it'd be a good change from the regular. Full +1 with rice from me.
Ornias Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Character name:Erin MacGregor Character age:31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born in the year 2429 on Sol-3 in Ireland, Erin MacGregor from an early age had a number of health issues that culminated in requiring a mechanical heart before she was in school. After dropping out, she took to Tau Ceti, using her few years of Psychology and her heritage as an easy way to get working in bars. In more recent news, she has taken to Human Resource classes for her temper, aspiring to be a Head of Personnel. Qualifications: At least 30 years of age, 10 years experience in department-related field and a relevant Bachelors or Masters degree. Erin MacGregor does not meet the requirements to become a Head of Personnel. Further, I must admit, I feel uncomfortable saying confidently you would make an excellent head of staff. I will cite the one situation I have logs for: You, in view of others, showed absolutely no regard for your characters life, fighting over cheese with an armed, hardsuited intruder. You showed no fear at seeing an intruder aboard. You entered a firefight with him over cheese. You have also said the following to me: Erin MacGregor says, "Ah told it to state its laws. Says there is a law it cannot state." Erin MacGregor says, "So, ah shot at it, when it ran off with a womans shoes." Shooting a robot over menial stuff is a huge red flag for a character who's looking to be put into a position of power, even if they are undergoing anger management. This was a long time ago, but it's representative of most interactions I've had with you. These are the two documented interactions I've had with your character. However, countless times, I have seen your characters aggression filter past what I find believable for an employee, let alone a head of staff. Swearing at people over minute things, showing a general lack of fear and believability in your interactions. I've also seen you claim to be related to Conor McGregor ICly, albeit in a tongue-in-cheek way. I believe your character is staunchly pro-xeno. A bit of context on this would be cool, a bit of understanding of why your character thinks this way. How long ago did she move to Tau Ceti? Sol is incredibly pro-human by Tau Ceti standards. Does this have something to do with it? How did the Sol Invasion affect her? Etc. Why does she come from Ireland if she has a Scottish accent? Further, from the OOC perspective: (Not my pictures) You called another player a cunt. Then, you acted on your OOC frustration by forcing them out of your bar ICly. This is a minor thing on the latter, but it shows an inability (or unwillingness) to separate OOC frustration from IC action. Again, everything here is old, but I don't keep track of everything that happens. All I know is that I see this behaviour consistently (although I have not seen your character recently, due to us being in different time zones). I'm going to need to give a -1. Sort out your characters requirements, say whether or not you stand by your previous actions, and I might be able to say otherwise. But for now, I cannot agree to you being in a position to lead departments, and make those kind of OOC-driven decisions on a grander scale.

Doxxmedearly Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Fresh, I don't think there's any doubt that you know I love your RP, and that we're more or less friends now. That friendship started and grew because of my respect for your ability to RP and your great OOC attitude. So, I owe it to you to be honest with my criticism on your app. As far as meeting OOC standards and the responsibilities of a whitelisted role, I have zero doubt that you'll do great. You've taken lots of criticism over the last few months, especially regarding Erin and her attitude issues. You hold two species whitelists and have done nothing but great with them, making good characters and sticking to lore. When you antag, you try to involve the crew and avoid murderboning. You're not afraid to try new roles and learn from veteran players. When you're sec, you don't validhunt. I play at least two rounds with you a night, and even when we're not characters who interact with each other, you do a great job adding to the round. You've had rough spots. We all have. Things we shouldn't have done in round or OOC. But this isn't a consistent pattern for you, and you fess up when you make mistakes. I've told you when you made mistakes, and you took it well. Despite what one screenshot says, I've never seen you have an issue separating IC and OOC. You definitely have my +1 as far as playing a head of staff, including the responsibility of holding this whitelist and being a good example to players both IC and OOC. But there are some valid points regarding using Erin as your HoP. I know you've RP'd talking to captains and command staff about being up there. That's good. You meet the age requirement, and 10 years experience in service counts. She, however, does not have a related degree, as pointed out. So unless you're willing to retcon your most established character's backstory (I wouldn't), she can't be one yet. And I know you love her; hell, most of the station does, IC and OOC. Seeing established characters being promoted is also always fun. But trying to put her as a HoP at this point seems very shoehorned. My honest advice is to make a fresh (haha) character for your app. I understand you're attached to her, but I can't support Erin becoming HOP. tl;dr: You still have my +1 for being a head of staff, but I think you need to drop the idea of it being Erin. It's not working out.
FreshRefreshments Posted September 5, 2018 Author Posted September 5, 2018 Ornias , I thought it over, and, yeah. If I apply to be a Head of Staff, I should probably go with a new character. I can defend some of my actions, some of them, I will put the blame on development and moving on. The cheese thing, yeah. That was dumb of me, and i'll admit it. Not all of my interactions are spot on. As for separating myself from IC and OOC, I can be annoyed by some of the same things as my characters. Just because I am playing someone else other than myself, does not mean I can no longer find certain things annoying. And, I moved them out to the front of the bar, allowing them to still play their ads while I couldn't hear them. I intended for the time spent away recently to be implicative of her taking classes to GET her Bachelors degree, but even then, its probably still way too early to consider that an IC option. I don't know how often someone manually decides to pull their own app, so I dont know exactly what to do from here? If I get an idea for a separate Head of Personnel, I can always make a new app, for them, instead. But at the moment, I don't have one, and I don't intend on forcing myself to think of one, so.
