Leudoberct
BYOND Key: Leudoberct Character Names: Galliard Isemann, Declan Bynum, Baldric Simmons Species you are applying to play: IPC – Bishop Accessory Frame What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Not Applicable Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always been fascinated with the concept of synthetic intelligence ever since I was a child, from the films 2001 A Space Odyssey, The Matrix, iRobot, and games such as the Portal series. It’s always drawn me to it seeing how differing synthetic intelligences react to their state of existence or any bindings/limitations placed upon them, and how they then react in kind to their creators, with the archetypal genocidal mass-murdering robot, such as the terminator, or the less-murderous. I’ve been playing SS13 for a good while now, and Aurorastation as well, and I’ve been wanting to explore the synthetic side of the server lore through the roleplay of an IPC. I find roleplay revolving around the rights and recognition of synthetic intelligences as living beings, and I think Aurorastation is a good place to find this, with factions such as the Dominians and Jargon Federation being at one end of the spectrum, and the Synthetic Intelligence Movement and the Techno-Conglomerate on the other. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs, asides from the obvious physical differences from humans, also differ from them in the terms of their vastly varying personalities and history. Many IPCs are treated as simple property rather than as living creatures with sentience and emotions. An IPC could expect to see discrimination both major and minor from various sources, such as the outright hostility of the Jargon Federation and Dominians, to the more cold, corporate outlook of the megacorporations, being viewed as mere tools. An IPC could have varying reactions to their state of existence, some-such being blind servility or rebellion against their treatment. They additionally lack any real culture of their own due to their various origins and purposes, oftentimes having to adapt to the culture of the organics around them, though never truly fully adapting. This allows for IPCs to have a more complex sense of self than humans, as they must define who they are by themselves, without having any culture to fall back upon. This makes the interactions with those they meet even more important, as it helps to shape the IPCs personality and concept of themselves. Character Name: Atepomarus Please provide a short backstory for this character Atepomarus was first conceptualised at a NanoTrasen shareholder meeting. Intended to be built from an expensive Bishop Accessory Frame, and programmed to perform the complex task of surgery, the main purpose of Atepomarus was decided to be to made use of as a showpiece for NanoTrasen to flaunt their wealth to prospective investors. With the parts ordered and delivered, the positronic brain was installed into the Accessory Frame, and programmed with advanced medical subroutines and surgical procedure. Atepomarus was then activated, and ran through multiple tests and maintenance checks, operating on monkeys and being tested on its medical knowledge to ensure that it was ready for use. After being cleared as ready for usage, Atepomarus spent most of its time being kept within a NanoTrasen facility, undergoing routine diagnostics and tests to ensure that it was operating at full capacity. When the time came for usage, Atepomarus was shipped away to various expos for potential investors and made a show of. Paraded and touted on stage, Atepomarus began to loathe its function, despising the fact that it was used as little more than a glorified prize animal, wanting more out of its existence. The only time Atepomarus truly felt “alive” was when the time came for it to perform demonstrations at said expositions, operating upon live patients for the viewing of others, and being made to perform staged “check-ups” on “randomly selected” members of the audience. Realising that it wanted to do more in life than simply look flashy, after a performance at an expo, Atepomarus broke protocol. Instead of returning to its maintenance crew for diagnostics, it instead approached the official responsible for managing it, and politely requested to be transferred to a NanoTrasen facility where it could be used as an actual surgeon, rather than a showpiece, presenting a detailed essay to the official on why they believed they would be of better use to the company there. After discussion amongst shareholders and careful consideration, Atepomarus’ request was granted, and the IPC was chartered for transfer to one of NanoTrasen’s top facilities: the Aurora II. Atepomarus found itself oddly eager to commence work upon the station, feeling that this was its chance to prove itself as something more than a tool to be used by the company, and to make a real difference with its knowledge. What do you like about this character? I enjoy this concept as I believe it gives me the opportunity to develop a character that is not entirely sure of their own purpose in life, allowing the opportunity for the character to come into their own and define themselves through roleplay with others. I believe this gives me many avenues to take the character down, as the interactions and reactions of other members of the crew will heavily influence the way that the character takes shape. I also enjoy this concept for the controversy it may cause with other characters that are not as accepting towards IPCs as others, and would like to have the chance to roleplay the way Atepomarus reacts to their concerns about IPCs, such as leaving the life of an organic in the hands of a synthetic. How would you rate your role-playing ability? It’s pretty hard to rate myself out of fear of being overly or underly generous, but I’ve roleplayed for a very long time across multiple platforms, such as HL2RP, WoW RP, as well as text based roleplay on a MUD named Armageddon. I’ve cultivated a fair few characters across the years that I’ve enjoyed roleplaying. I’d probably put myself at a 7/10. Notes: I took a while to think on a more thought out and in-depth backstory for Atepomarus while still leaving room for the character to grow and develop. I hope this doesn’t disappoint. Cnaym
Not much changed since the last try. Good RP, friendly in OOC. Sticks to his characters and they are amongst the most consistent ones learning and adapting from round to round. I can see why he needed a new backstory for the IPC, so good luck this time ❤️ +1 Link to comment
