Player Byond Key/Character name: Darius Stafford. Don't know the ckey.

Staff involved: I asked Alb if it would be okay to make this complaint to raise awareness to the player, as I didn't want their whitelist looked at. I simply want the player to realize that the following complaint is ongoing and that it needs to be addressed BEFORE their whitelist has to be looked at.

Reason for complaint: I have Captain'd with Darius Stafford several times. (More with my old Captain Demos, but lately the rounds have been with Scarlett Moore.)

Darius does not communicate, at all. In fact, you have to directly ask him to talk before he even begins to communicate to Command OR Security. Half the time, it relies on the Captain or some officer to give orders and find out what's going on. Last round (the one that prompted me to file this complaint), the security force had to be commanded by the Captain and Jake Jarvis. Now given, Darius was in surgery for close to 30mins, but before surgery and after he STILL did not attempt to communicate with his team over any sort of frequency.

This leads to a very disorganized Security team, lack of communication, confusion, and honestly... I'd rather not have a Head of Security at all if I'm gave the option of one that doesn't talk or not having one. Commanders are incredibly important, and we need you to communicate better with your team AND with Command. As a whitelist holder, you have to guide your department. You are their mouthpiece at times. You can't just not give orders and sit around waiting for the action to occur. Team building is an important part of the security force. Even if it's to check on them over the radio, "hey, status update?". It lets us know you're there and willing to command when needed.

but you drop the ball on this, hard. I've had multiple people come to me about this. I don't want to see a white list stripped. I don't want to see a warning, or a ban. I want the player to reflect on their RP and see if they can understand where I (and several others) are coming from. It's frustrating to rely on you if you don't talk.

Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes and no? I ahelped at the start of the next round, as I was a bit AFK at round end. I was hoping maybe Stafford would pick up, even a bit, but it never happened.

I play Jake Jarvis, and this is the first round in a long time I've played with Stafford, I joined the round about an hour in, and I asked what was going on, but got no response from the HoS, so the captain stepped in and told me to read the newscasters, so I thought, fair enough. A while in the round, I had to basically take command and start getting information for the ISD my self, I felt like I was the HoS more than the ACTUAL HoS. I had to at least command some members of the ISD to help me, I went around my self getting information from all the wizards on how to handle the situation best, and so I saw fit to start taking the wands away, without detaining the wizards. I only saw and heard the HoS ONCE. That round, and that was not even on radio. It was when i came in to security to deliver the wands I confiscated.

The lack of communication was... appauling. This is the same reason why we lost Lin Dyslioth, was because of lack of communcation, but this was worse. Much worse.

Darius Stafford was in surgery for ages, I told the Captain that. I had to AFK at ~1:45 minute mark (that was when the Captain, me, the Ninja and the HoP were talking just outside the medical back door) due to a call and had to leave the round 5 minutes after relatively quickly. The HoS was in surgery at this point for at least 15 minutes with a surgeon. One that I assumed was capable of performing the plastic surgery after Stafford got husked. I doubt that was his fault at all.

No no, you're not understanding us. He didn't talk before or AFTER surgery either, at least not without being asked multiple times, and he never organized his team, from the get go.

When he got out of surgery, he still did not speak or organize Security. We understand not talking while in surgery. That's not the complaint. This complaint isn't just about one shift either.

Stafford has done this nearly every shift I've worked with him.

Hi, sorry for all the wait! @Flamingo and I will be taking this complaint. All person that have some kind of proof of their behavior, or a round ID, is welcome to post it here as long as it stays related to the complaint. The person concerned is also free to post here as well to see their point of view on the matter.

Alright, I’d like to address that the round that you focused on here, my character was under anaesthesia for around the better part of an hour. I gave heads up as I was going under, and I made it clear that I was back in working condition afterwards. The surgery took so long because the surgeon was inexperienced, but I didn’t want to annoy them at the time, and I have forgotten who they were now. Again, I did announce that I would going into surgery, although I was unaware of how long it would take. Also, as soon as I was out of surgery, I noticed someone had been calling for me on the radio, so I responded to say my character was back. Satin, I can easily see you interpreting this as me having to be asked multiple times to respond before doing so, when in reality I responded to the radio immediately after being brought out of surgery.

 

However, your complaint focuses on my communication playing Darius. Most of you on this thread know my character but not me. I don’t play as often as I had hoped to, due to ongoing family issues (which also have affected my playing during rounds as I have let admins know). I am still learning, and during that surgery, I thought about all the things I should have done whilst not in surgery, and subsequently, in general as Commander. Your complaint confirmed this. You are completely correct, and as the Head of Security, I’d say I’m still a fresh one, and I need to work on communication. I do ask for status updates and sitreps frequently, but I completely understand this is not enough. I want to improve, and hope to show a much sharper sense of awareness, communication and leadership during the next round I might play as Commander, and I hope you can see that I have taken all your comments and complaints on this thread to heart, as a genuine person who only wants to get better in the role to make the experience better each round for everyone.

(EDIT): DarkStar’s comment was about the specific round when my character was in surgery for a long time, in medical AND in robotics. Also, I joined that round late, so I don’t feel I was left with enough time to display proper leadership during that specific round in which he raised his whole case against me.
