BurgerBB Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 The original plan for making ninja a better gamemode is that there are 3 ninjas instead of 1. For reasons I do not know (which are probably reasonable but still), it was instead just made two. I think that ninja would benefit better from having a maximum of 3 ninjas instead of two. Having two ninjas just encourages 1v1s, and even then, 2 ninjas is usually not enough to interact with crew.
Carver Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 3 ninjas sounds like absolute suffering for the crew, on the other hand.
FreshRefreshments Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I actually just played a very recent round that went fantastic with two Ninjas. I think currently the two we have is very effective. Three seems like veering closer and closer to something that is only used as very powerful mercs, since they get their suit and everything in it, along with the telecrystals. Two ninjas seems plenty to interact with crew.

I mean at the time the ninjas weren't as powerful as they are now. Ninjas are absolutely invulnerable and any powergaming sec are extremely reluctant to kill them because of their explosive chip. Maybe a ninja nerf is needed. It is one of the only antags, next to wizard lich, that is hard to kill when they get out of hand.

I wouldn't be entirely adverse to 3 ninjas if the built-in 'passably good by Toxins standards' bomb that activates on death and tends to kill 3-5 people around them were removed, and replaced with the suit simply bricking or frying beyond usage on the ninja's death.

Yeah that's easy to implement if that's what you're concerned about. The semi-recent tweaks to air have made even 1 ninja exploding a burden to everyone involved.
Screemers Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Ninja event seem to often only include a small part of the players, so having a third one could be interesting. But as it was said, if all three have an explosive device that destroy everything on death, that could be an issue. I would be for that idea if the Ninja have a random chance to get that explosive failsafe only.
Kaed Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I think ninja should have to buy the explosive failsafe, a bomb that powerful shouldn't just be built into the suits. And the failsafe should also trigger only manually, not upon death, or at least only have a chance to activate on death. Maybe we could also revised it so that it doesn't tear a hole in the ship but just kills or hurtse everyone nearby?

This is, in most cases, entirely up to the ninjas. If you add another and all it does is further antagonize security, then science still gets nothing out of it. But one ninja, when played right, can zip around and fuck with just about everyone. I delight in the rounds of ninja where they manage to roam about and interact with each department. I don't feel adding any more would do much to the situation. That said, I've never rolled ninja and don't really know all of the details behind it. Take my 2 cents for what they are worth.
GreenBoi Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 No. Too many ninjas for a good gimmick, and too much potential for dumb mayhem from three unstoppable weeaboos.

If a ninja happens to die in an unfortunate place, or just acts like a massive cunt and succumbs as soon as someone is near their unconscious body, then it causes a fairly unavoidable dice roll of whether you get gibbed or just die within some seconds because you happened to be standing next to someone who died. The original intent of it's design was to keep the suit from being stolen, to which I think the suit should just brick if the wearer dies instead of turning them into an APC bomb-lite.
