GreenBoi Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 Vaurcae have stiff, inflexible carapaces and are poisoned by Nitrogen (they can actually breathe Oxygen fine mechanically and lore-wise). Think it'd be nice to have CPR be impossible to do on them- you can't do chest-compressions because their chests aren't meant to be pushed down and bounce back up and you can't do mouth-to-mouth because the Nitrogen being exhaled would poison the vaurca and the phoron coming IN would poison YOU.
Carver Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) Isn't it already incredible suffering for medical to treat them? I'm not sure how to feel about making it harder to keep them alive. Alternate suggestion: CPR works, both parties get minor toxin damage from each attempt. Edited March 14, 2020 by Carver Added a reasonable suggestion.
Pratepresidenten Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 Personally, I see them as freaky outcasts, and I one hundred percent would not attempt resuscitation if I was at risk myself, even if low toxins. For all I know, they might involuntarily snap my face off while I try to save them, and Im not breathing in lethal substances to keep an icky bug alive :') Isnt the whole point of a bug to be alien, terrifying and hard to deal with?
Roostercat Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 You already cant do rescue breaths because of their mask, so that part is totally irrelevant, as for compressions, that is more a question of "Do we want to fuck Vaurca players over even more". Overall I think this isn't a very crucial change.
GreenBoi Posted March 14, 2020 Author Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) As a person who has played vaurcae a lot, and the OP- this wouldn't make things that different. ICly. Attempting CPR on them would already be stupid for the reasons described and CPR itself isn't that good of an option if someone's already in medbay (also its kind of ridiculous to assume CPR for humans would work for every single species). Generally, when I'm expecting death as a bug- I expect it from toxins, burns, or bleeding (which can all lead to braindamage anyways). Not from not getting CPR-spammed hard enough. i was also gonna suggest being unable to choke vaurcae unless you were one too, or a unathi but that's a different suggestion right there Edited March 14, 2020 by GreenBoi

Is this not something to be decided on a per-character basis ICly, rather than mechanically locked out, in that case?
Pratepresidenten Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Well yeah, one would decide per character how much they'd be willing to help, but the initial issue is the same. Where would you put your fleshy face into that sharp horror to partake in mutual poisoning and worse after you rip their life-sustaining mask off? Are we even capable of mouth to mouth with this species? 9 hours ago, GreenBoi said: Generally, when I'm expecting death as a bug- I expect it from toxins, burns, or bleeding (which can all lead to braindamage anyways). Not from not getting CPR-spammed hard enough. I think.. This was a good change following brainmed, and braindeath by lack of breathing isnt as dangerous as all the others, probably? I dont really know the stats on that, so dont quote me on this ? But either or, its an interesting idea to me atleast, and I'd love to hear some lorenerd thoughts on it!
JamOfBoy Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 You can't do CPR on vaurca unless you remove their mask. So, if you really wanted to do CPR on a vaurca, you'd actually just be making things worse! But if we want to mechanically enforce this, sure. Not being able to be choked also sounds cool - but that's for another suggestion. Please don't mouth-to-mouth insect men who breathe a toxic, highly combustible super-fuel and also oxygen while you have a lit cigarette, thanks.
