[Resolved] Player Complaint - Menown

BYOND Key: SueTheCake

Game ID: The one before b65-dBse.

Player Byond Key/Character name: Menown

Staff involved: Arrow, I think.

Approximate Date/Time: 5/9/2020, 5:50~ pm.

Reason for complaint:

At the end of a long revolutionary round, myself and several other individuals escaped a bioweapon on the station by using a pod. This included Menown's character, Jesse Armstrong, Anya Orlova, a janitor, an engineer in a rig suit, and the warden, as well as me. In the lead up to the pod launching, Menown kept unbuckling my character from their chair with no provocation. This meant that upon the pod launching my character was thrown into a wall and suffered brutal injuries, as by the time the round was ending my character was bleeding out and would have eventually died.

After the pod launched and the people inside were thrown about and wounded, and while trying to deal with said wounds, Menown proceeded to open the pod's airlock and eject everyone out into space except for the janitor, myself, the warden, and the engineer, saved by buckling and magboots respectively. This then lead to the further deaths of the warden via suicide as opposed to pressure and the janitor as he began to run out of air. I would have bled out shortly after, meaning that in a pod of 7 people, Menown killed themselves and five others. Only the engineer was unharmed and would have survived. I asked Menown why he did this. His response was that his 'character was hot and wanted some air'.

I am making this complaint because I was told the end administrative decision was a 'severe warning'. I do not feel this is appropriate. Several players died as a result of this, and Menown was not an antag. A sane and mature character does not open an escape pod airlock mid flight to get some air because they know on the other side is space. Five people (and themselves) were killed by Menown and I'm not convinced a warning is sufficient. I believe if it was a new person to the server who tried to use the same response, they would have suffered a harsher punishment. Menown toes the line constantly with silly antics that mostly kill themselves, but in this case I don't think it was acceptable and was fully against the rules. Someone who has been here as long as Menown has should know better.

If you took my meaning for that as serious, boy I need to work on my OOC sarcasm. It was the end of an incredibly boring and uneventful rev round where there were seven(?) or so people crammed into a two-seater escape pod. My suspension of disbelief was severed the instant we all crammed in under the chairs, so once the pod took off, yes I started fucking around unbuckling everybody's chairs because I'm honestly curious about the type of damage the new throw mechanics for shuttles cause. Was my intent to space myself and a bunch of people? No. I tried to close the door back but I had already been tossed to the floor so I couldn't do it and managed to fuck it all up.

Should I have done it? No, but I've been warned for it and I'm sure I'm on the end of a really thin rope at this point. Not exactly sure what you're looking for with this.

Well, since I am named as involved.

During the end of the round, I saw some mentioning in dchat that someone vented one of the escape pods.
Talked to Sue (I think; should be in the logs), because they were the last to touch the airlock controller according to the logs.
It turned out, that they did not open it.

@Alberyk handled the rest of the ticket and warned menown for it.

To clear up what arrow said; I warned the player due to opening the pod middle transit. I was not aware of the unbuckling thing to get people to slam on walls when the shuttle left.

I think this explains why the punishment was as light as it is.

Menown, like you said, you're at the end of a very tight rope here. Flim and I have decided to ban you from the server for a week, and this will be your last warning. Enough with the rule-skirting or not caring about the rules - next time you do this again, you'll be permanently banned.

I will leave this complaint open for 24 hours.

Some time away to reflect, get things back together again, and improve myself may be not only good for myself, but for the community as a whole as I know I can be a bit much. Sorry, and thanks for the break. See you soon.
