Game ID: b9j-a5yw

Player Byond Key/Character name: Arthur Osteen/armrha

Staff involved: None.

Reason for complaint: Right. I have several issues based on Arthur Osteen's actions that round. One was when he let a Uranium Golem go around the station, destroying walls and stealing things, being a typical nuance despite the crew protesting that the golem must be dealt with since they were fed up with it. Two was when he decided to use TTVs from Toxins to destroy the blob, this took apart half of atmospherics and nearly took away the gravity generator, a justification for me to call an emergency shuttle and end the round prematurely after asking the crew if they want to leave. Additionally, two androids were nearly destroyed and one atmospheric technician was nearly blasted away from these detonations without warning ahead of time. Their actions has jeopardized the crew greatly and as a Research Director no less, this begs the question of whether is he fit for Command or not given their actions described.

Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No because it was late into the round and we were evacuating, I did not think about ahelping their behavior until some deliberation.

To be honest, it felt like he was just trying to let a player do their own thing and there was a lot going on at the time. It was a ling round, and only a few crew members kept demanding the golem be destroyed, as we were unsure if the force needed to destroy it would cause a further detonation.

Osteen was more busy chatting up the golem and following it while safe in a radsuit as it irradiated everyone else from what I saw. Tried to call him for the ling's morph but he remained inattentive the entire time until we got it into a locker, then he became involved with the thing.

Engineering and medical were begging for us to deal with the golem itself, manifest was small enough that it really was not just a few. It made a lot of holes and was causing further damage with a hand teleporter. The key thing here is that a uranium golem kills you by existing nearby. All we got from Osteen for the longest time was 'It's interesting" and then the weapons grade uranium comments. Eventually once the blob became an issue, he did open up the armoury and we used the laser rifles to destroy the golem as it tried to enter the evacuation shuttle.

That's the extent of my experience as an officer.

i was the golem, and i promised some sort of "secrets"

the time spent damaging the station was a brute force way to gather these materials - bluespace crystal dust, the hand teleporter, and several other 'anomalous' items that i was going to combine into a weird 'bluespace anomaly' thing that would end in my death, hopefully leaving behind some Scientific Anomaly the admins might have spawned if i prayed and asked enough for it.

i believe Osteen was hoping for that end goal - but i was also being VERY vague about EVERYTHING, and he did try and personally tell the golem to 'chill the fuck out' (he didnt say it that way but same idea.)

i also subscribe to the belief that research directors can be SCIENTISTS FIRST, and 'security' second. we should allow a level of variety in how RD's can handle their departments, and the station. he was a lone command member who mostly functions as a form of teacher for the people in the research team, and i think his flaw in allowing the specimen to run amok is very interesting and endearing! especially for roleplay.

ANYWAYS, he just has a different style of command, and it's endearing and fun. he was forced to solve problems that shouldn't BE his problems in that round because he was asked to.

We apologize for the delay.

@BoryaTheSlayer and I were assigned this complaint on the 20th of this month.

After looking into the complaint, we attempted to contact the person listed in this complaint on the 22nd. They have not responded so we are going forward with the verdict.

1- The golem issue was deemed fine. NSS Aurora is ultimately a research station, so focusing on things with research potential is fine. Characters can put risk versus analysis to these situations to determine whether the risk and issues being caused are worth the potential outcome or not.

2- There were issues with the usage of bombs from science to deal with the blob. It is alright to use different means to deal with the biohazard, but consideration needs to be given for the people in the vicinity and damages caused. When utilizing such extreme methods, there needs to be a sufficient amount of effort put into preparation and precaution as they were not antagonist. A warning was issued for this detailing the issues.

We'll keep this open for 24 hours before locking and archiving.
