niennab Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I wanted to put in the suggestion to revert the IPC heat gauge to it's old form. The reason being that I find the current UI to be too small, difficult to read, and hard to quickly gauge in an emergency. Heat to an IPC is incredibly important and I found the old art conveyed that urgency a lot better and quicker. Moreover, the current art often clashes with the background tiles, making it harder to read (the yellow heat in the example below conveys that well I feel). I don't have a lot of screenshots myself but here is what I had in my folders in addition to what I could get from other people. Personally I liked the old food gauge as well (I was hoping to eventually replace it with a battery and see if it could be changed) but my main concern is the heat.
Carver Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Can definitely say I also preferred the old UI elements in that regard.
niennab Posted October 15, 2020 Author Posted October 15, 2020 If heat damage is going to be more prevalent, (thread below), I want to desperately ask again that the heat gauge is looked at. I've had numerous rounds now where I've taken damage simply by walking into an area without atmospherics and not realizing how hot I was until I was on fire. Or, running for a bit too long and taking damage.
Doc Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Not going to lie; I'd like to revert all of them. Do they look prettier, as individual sprites? Sure. But they're so, so much smaller, less flashy, and all of them readily blend in with the background of the average room. It's far too easy to miss the very important information that the icons are supposed to immediately display until something has already happened, like when you start gasping because your lungs have popped, or you're already burned half to hell as an IPC.
Sheeplets Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Bump out of interest and also because of this. 2 hours ago, Doc said: But they're so, so much smaller, less flashy, and all of them readily blend in with the background of the average room. My lungs almost exploded the other day because it took fifteen seconds for me to realize I was suffocating in a vented hallway. If I hadn't gotten messages in my chat log I probably would never have noticed at all. I can only imagine how annoying that must be for an IPC. One second you're fine and the next you're dead because you didn't see a tiny flashing icon in the far corner of your screen. They're great in theory but horrific in execution.

Doc Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 @geeves I would really, really, really recommend bumping up the size of the icons at least a little bit, 1.5 to 2 times. They're just so friggen smol. Still, this already looks like a definite improvement- thank you!
