[ACCEPTED] Meltharas' Head of Staff Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Meltharas
Character names: Luna Darkowski, Isskssi Issana, Zaeed Al-Hakar, Malika Alfarsi, Siilko Ukeki, Farah Al-Kandari, Fredek Al-Shahrani

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 3 Years

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to help contribute to the server and to the enjoyment that others get from interactions with my characters. I hope to help others have the same great interactions as I have had while helping the departments to the best of my ability and experience.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I played Space Station 13 for a little while on a no to low RP server before, but it wasn't enjoyable to me. I love the game, and the Aurora was my first experience with how much fun RP can be in this game. It gave me a setting and story to work with and made me invested in adding to it in my own small ways.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I got a strike a year or two ago on the discord because I accidentally posted round information while the round was still ongoing. I have not done so since. No administrative actions were taken on the server though.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is stepping out of your own shoes and into those of someone else. It is literally becoming a character in an ongoing story, causing drama and enjoyment even if you aren't a "main character". Roleplay should be about having fun, making friends, and most importantly creating stories that you can remember fondly and share with others. It should be a safe place where the only drama is the interaction between characters, both protagonist and antagonist, and once the story is over any hard feelings are left at the ending.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOCly, I always felt that the Heads of Staff were meant to provide direction to their departments and to all of those people playing within them. They need to be able to help everyone do their job to the best of their ability by assigning tasks and making sure everyone is on the same page. On top of that, they should be willing and happy to teach people how to do their job to the best of their ability, offering help when someone forgets how to do something OOC. The heads of staff also work together to make decisions for the station to follow or disobey as new troubles arise due to the antagonists of the round, making sure that a reasonable response is pursued and as many people are included and have fun with how the story goes.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The first and most important responsibility is to help create roleplay for others while helping make sure that others do not get in the way of the overall enjoyment. Sometimes that means teaching a newcomer the ropes so that they may get better at their role and have more fun, and sometimes that means kicking a troublemaker out of their department and filing an Incident Report to make sure that the troublemakers do not prevent others from enjoying their tasks and stories. Furthermore, they must act as an example to everyone who plays with them of how act and respond to situations without devolving into an unnecessary grudge match.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Currently, the Galaxy is facing a crisis in the form of a Phoron Shortage caused by worms devouring the supply. As the supply decreased, the prices have increased and caused heavy tensions between the different Governments and Megacorporations as everyone is trying to maintain their supply and prevent their economy from crashing. As a whistleblower recently unveiled crimes that the Sol Alliance government had committed against it's own people, the situation started to escalate when he was assassinated and Einstein Engines was accused of organizing this. The most recent development was the unveiling of Einstein Engine's new warp drive design, which Nanotrasen sued them for due to claiming that the design was stolen from them. This has affected Luna Darkowksi, my tajara doctor, since it has become harder and harder to send money home to her family and making it harder for her to maintain her standard of living. This has resulted in her taking overtime shifts to make ends meet, made more stressful by the unrest that seems to keep getting worse.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? The primary role I plan to play is Chief Medical Officer. As of late I have noticed an unfortunate lack of individuals filling this role when medical is often one of the more necessary departments on the station. Between organizing assistance for work related injuries to helping the station overcome antagonist-based troubles, an efficient medical department is necessary. The other role I have considered is the Head of Personnel. I have long enjoyed the relative peace of the civilian team and an unfortunate lack of others taking the role despite it being almost necessary to change jobs or make changes to IDs.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: I wish to use my surgeon, Luna Darkowski. She was one of the first characters I ever made, and the first after I earned my tajara whitelist three years ago. She has been in the department for all this time, offering training to residents and having a kind bedside manner. She is certainly one of the most experienced characters I currently play when it comes to her department. I do not have any current plans for another character, nor have I created one for the role as of yet.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would honestly rate myself an 8/10. While I know I am not perfect, I always do my best to play my characters well while doing the roles assigned to me for each shift. I do my best to interact positively with everyone, include as many people as possible, and react as appropriately as I can to situations as they arise. When I have played an antagonist, I do my best to consider what would be the most enjoyable for the crew instead of trying to think how to "win", even allowing my characters to be captured in order for more interaction to be had other than simply shooting them and eventually dying. I enjoy what I do and the stories I have made for my characters, and strive to continue making more with every interaction.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I do indeed. This role is a privilege and not something to take lightly after all. If I cannot be trusted to fulfill my role and responsibilities despite given feedback, then I do not deserve the role.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes, I have. I browse through the wiki on a regular basis, doing my best to familiarize myself with changes and keeping up with things my character should know. Command is no different, as there are plenty of details I should know.

Extra notes: Thank you in advance for any consideration. No matter the outcome, I will continue to play on this server and have fun with this amazing community!

I have mainly roleplayed with Luna Darkowski and Isskssi Issana. Not significantly with the latter, though. From what I have experienced, Meltharas puts good thought into their characters and plays genuine people. Nothing really struck me as exaggerated or unnatural when interacting with them. No matter who I played, they were still pretty great, whether a stranger or acquaintance. Made me want to learn more when it came to Tajara and Unathi.

As for how they might do with command, they handle new and not so new players well, giving them time and instruction whenever needed. Already a leader of the medical department when nobody else steps up to the plate, really. Competent as well. I am not sure how this would translate to being the department head outright, but that is what a trial is for.

Lastly, I did not really know the player behind these characters until recently, so on an OOC front there's not much I can detail. Only thing I can say is that they've been friendly and I'm glad I finally got to speak with the person behind some of the characters I have enjoyed.

Meltharas is an exceptional roleplayer with a firm grasp on all of the departments they staff, an excellent understanding of the lore, and a natural penchant for helping to acclimate new players. I can't think of a single bad experience we've ever had together and interacting with their characters is nothing short of an absolute pleasure due to them being some of if not the best I've ever seen. Issana especially is a fantastic character and probably the one that I hold all all other Unathi up to as a golden standard. The only complaint I have is that this application wasn't written sooner.

The character Luna is a memorable member of medical and I have never had a negative experience with them and/or the player. They put a lot of effort into their character and their roleplay to be a believable person with goals, vices and a personality. While I must admit that I do not know their other characters well, I have no doubt that they are equally well played.  They have my full support, +1

I'm fairly new to SS13 RP, and SS13 in general. I chose medbay for my first character, and Meltharas has always been pleasant and helpful to my constant questioning. They've taught me everything from basic game controls and administering which medications for what condition to basic surgery without ever getting frustrated or bothered throughout my mistakes and errors. I've never felt intimidated or as though I couldn't approach them OOC or IC and I think I am lucky that they were there to help me get settled in. I always look forwards to roleplaying with them.

+1 They are, and will be a great CMO!

I feel much the same as I did before. They're excellent when it comes to handling new members of the department and are empowered to help them out a lot more than they could before now. Also still very nice to talk to and one of the doctors that retains a consistently good bedside manner. Other than that, they are generally a stabilizing presence for the department and delegates as required. Not a super doctor. A real leader. Medical is usually one of those departments that rarely gets a Head compared to others, so its nice to have another capable one.

Good luck with the trial.

I played with Luna in medical (as LEVIATHAN, as Kimiko and also as Jurgen). They're really pleasant to RP with and makes for good company even in slow Extendo rounds. They always take charge teaching residents, but they also let other people do jobs coming up if they want to. As the workaholic LEVI I (sometimes quite literally) yoinked work out of their hands a few times, and they were always a champ about it. Stays cool even in pretty stressful situations and quite good at delegating. I think they would be a great HoS, or any head really.
