WAYRT Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 BYOND key: WAYRT Discord Username: WAYRT#8622 Character names: Malcolm McGulby, Quartermaster Chazz Bell, Drill Technician How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around 10 monhts Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Nothing apart from a warning and a week-long ban which I believe happened due to my lack of expirience in RP at the time. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: As the Head of Staff, one will often be the main reason for most of the events during the round. Be it a general cleaning day or station-wide basketball tournament, it is up to Head of Staff to make the round interesting for as many parties involved as possible, similar to antagonists. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Head of Staff is considered a mentor of sorts to those who work as interns in their department, and the first person to hear the complains of the workers in the department and act on solving them if deemed necessary. Another goal of the Head of Staff is to ensure that department is, at best, is still standing during emergency situations, and is operating without serious issues during non-emergencies. All this must be done with proper level of Roleplaying. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? As it stands, the majority of Orion Spur is still experiencing a shortage of Phoron. Under such circumstances, the announcement of SSCV Horizon came as a surprise to nobody. After completing his contract aboard NSS Aurora, Malcolm returned to work under Hephaestus's banners, where promotion for his job was only a matter of time. As a newly promoted Operation Manager who managed to prove his devotion, his employment at SCCV's logistical sector on behalf of Hephaestus was a reasonable expectation. Following the Solarian Collapse, Oliver Marshall had the choice to either return to his family and position of a dockworker in Callisto's less than distinguishable space harbor, or proceed with his relatively new career at NanoTrasen in Tau Ceti to provide better financial support. Following the further developments in Alliance, as well as Violet Dawn, Oliver had few reasons to doubt his choice. There were more incidents, such as Mictlan situation, Corporate Reconstruction Zone and conflict between Vaurcae Hives, which ultimately did not affect neither characters in any way. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Main reason for this application is to transfer my QM character to Horizon as Operation Manager. I'm planning to play as Head of Personnel aboard Aurora during the trial as another, new character. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Oliver Marshall as Head of Personnel during trial, Malcolm McGulby as Operation Manager aboard Horizon Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Naturally. Have you linked your byond account to the forums? Yes, I did. Extra notes: I dont know of how much of importance it is, but I play during European hours, which most often than not are deadpop.
4000daniel1 Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 (edited) In my almost 2 years of playing on aurora, I've never seen anyone develop as much in terms of roleplay as WAYRT. I've played with him in cargo since when he first started out and didn't know which slot your ID is supposed to go in and until today, where in my opinion he's a perfectly capable player who plays few, but distinct characters who have radiating personalities and detailed backstories that evolve an impressive amount as he plays them. In my experience it's rare for someone who starts with the amount of experience that WAYRT started with to keep playing here, but boy am I glad he did because the character he has been playing for ten months now has grown into one of the most active quartermasters, a very solid one at that. Malcolm has the perfect balance between playing a quartermaster with a strict personality while still taking his actions into OOC consideration and how they affect the round for everyone else. Always glad to have him, and I for one would find it highly unfortunate if he couldn't play the operations manager role. I'm also intrigued what he may have in mind for his new character, Oliver. He should be given a trial. Big chunky +1 from me. Edited February 6, 2022 by 4000daniel1
DekserBecauseILostMyAccoun Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 (edited) Without a doubt it's a +1 Malcolm Mcgulby is already more of a Command member than some Captains, as a Quartermaster. I've seen him coordinate and manage one of the most known departments for its shittery and inability to be led by anyone other than an angry Captain. I have seen Malcolm as a character, RELALY developed. He has a fully fleshed backstory that is actually difficult to find, opposed to a lot of characters that tell you their entire backstory of about 2 sentences when you just ask their name. His character feels real, a rarity on Aurora and is very capable in the aspect of leading. I really do hope to see Malcolm in a command position, he is a master in legal corporate espionage, without a doubt he would do anything to ride the ladder of promotions. At this point in time, I'd like to see a trial. Edited February 7, 2022 by DekserBecauseILostMyAccoun
lukebr2 Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Warty characters are great to interact with, generating lots of drama and fun two things that are perfect for a head of staff player, i would love to see their characters as heads in the future Big +1 for me
Shadow Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Your trial starts today and will end in a week, dont forget to collect feedback regarding your command play.
Diggey Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 This person manages to play someone who is in command perfectly, as in, he does his job, he cares about the job, and you hate him. But in the best possible way. Like, It is fun to be forced to do your job and he will help you every step of the way. And in the end you realise he isn't actually an asshole, that he cares. This is REALLY hard to roleplay out. As in. This is one of the few few few once in a decade kinda person. They deserve a Head of Staff role, also they are on during times where a Head of Staff is dearly needed.
Shadow Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Due to a lack of feedback I am going to extend your trial till next monday. Try to get more feedback, you can advertise your app once per round.
Sparky_hotdog Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 I'll throw my +1 in here, because man does WAYRT deserve it. Malcom is often the most authoritative figures on the station, regardless of how many actual command members there are, and yet he demands respect respectfully. Sure, nobody likes being harassed for bounties, but he never does it in a that makes you hate him, just the task, which is a very careful line to tread. I've interacted less with Oliver during his trial, so I can't comment much there, but from a few passing conversations he seems fairly good at his job. Also, the fact that WAYRT plays during Europe hours (aka dead/low pop) does mean that his command is sorely needed when he's around, as that one person who can get access to areas nobody else can in an emergency can often make empty rounds a little more bearable. However, I would say this might have impacted his app a bit, as a) When you only play rounds with the same 5 other players, you're going to be more limited in the amount of feedback you can get, and b) These rounds are mostly extended, and if not they're going to be an antag like techno or traitor, which does mean there's less opportunities for WAYRT to prove their ability under pressure compared to a player during high pop who gets a couple of merc rounds in. Not sure if that's relevant, but it was a thought that came to me.
XdwbX Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Malcom has certainly grown on me since first meeting him. Went from an abrasive overbearing control-freak to a fatherly figure. And that's just my direct interactions with him. I've also observed him with others and that has only further improved my opinion of him. From my limited experiences with his characters, I still say WAYRT would make a fine addition to the command team, and the fact that they'd likely be on when command was needed most is just icing on the cake.
FearTheBlackout Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Worked over me as Malcolm McGulby when I was Bridge Crew on the Horizon. Did a good job of communicating and working with limited information, as well as averting crises. +1!
