Player Complaint: Kyres

BYOND Key: Scheveningen
Game ID: cpB-aC2i
Player Byond Key/Character name: Kyres/Cupcake
Staff involved: no staff were available at the time of this round, probably due to it being mildly late
Reason for complaint: Antag play that incorporated very little attempts at roleplaying or sportsmanship - evidenced by the raider team killing a miner who was hospitalized in medbay due to a spectral eel, still don't know why that even happened. The stand-off in medbay was accentuated by the combat mech armed with a laser cannon shooting brazenly at security in lieu of making any meaningful demands or asking for any unorthodox interaction besides violence whatsoever. Myself and Karpati decided to intervene by flanking through deck 3 medbay, and we stopped the mech dead-to-rights. The shoot-out continued, and the raiders splintered apart and were gradually picked off until kyres' raider was left. An incident occurred in where after an encounter between my officer and kyres' raider ended in a draw and while I initially thought they were going to disengage due to us both being injured from it (within character behavior rules of not suicide rushing without decent reason or character development) because I did not back them into a corner, they were able to just leave, due to my own wounds needing tending by the EMT that I retreated towards, with Willey also backing me up. Kyres as their raider apparently popped a combat hypospray and dove back in to fight with a kneebreaker hammer, which decapped Donny Willey, who was my character's best friend. It was sheer luck that my officer was able to grab-pin them to stop them, but given that Ken's BFF just lost his head, Kyres' raider got their head beaten in and otherwise wrapped up the antag team's story then and there.

Given the lack of meaningful roleplay attempts coming from the antagonist team coupled by some extreme implementation of antagonist equipment to gain absurd and game-breaking advantages for combat purposes, rather than using bought antagonist equipment to ensure a meaningful narrative is being told, I am accusing the offender - primarily Kyres, who I am certain was the senior in terms of server and roleplay experience of the people in this team, and their mechanical conduct MOST ESPECIALLY stood out of the rest of the heisters here - of powergaming and playing to win as the antagonist. This was an incredibly unpleasant round experience overall and I personally do not play this server as if it's a Call of Duty lobby filled with tryhards trying to min-max game mechanics and therefore make the receiving players who have to deal with them otherwise have an awful time.
Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation?: Yes, but by the time an admin came online to address the situation, the round changed over.
Approximate Date/Time: 9/1-2/2023, 11PM-1AM EST

Image evidence of any equipment bought: (note the insane amount of smoke grenades, that is kyres' row: this is because of a specific antag strategy where thermals gives you mob x-ray and lets you attack/shoot people through smoke and it doesn't obscure your vision of mobs in the smoke, which is extremely min-maxxy because sec without thermals can't fight back meaningfully inside smoke, you are either forced to suppress the smoke or get the hell out.)

First and foremost, the response prior to this complaint was to come swinging at me in a DM over the trite circumstance. After you prompted a response and demeaned me, you blocked me.

I do not appreciate the immediate hostility and the fucking insulting attitude you directed at me. After this reply, I have no interest in speaking to you again.

In response to the substance of the complaint,

I don't know what started the original confrontation. I had nothing to do with it, as at the time I was trying to get a pair of gloves and a paint sprayer for the mech in a different department. By the time I regrouped with the team, I never saw the miner that was supposedly murdered.

The ENTIRE context of our confrontation is not mentioned, only that I am powergaming. Let me cover precisely the events that occurred, from my memory alone.

Spoiler

1. The entire medical confrontation occurred. Someway, somehow, a miner died here. I don't have recollection of how this came to be.

2. The raiders ended the medical confrontation with one in custody and three fleeing into maintenance.

3. The raiders began fleeing. A lot of uplink shit was used to stem the pursuing security force. This included the four smoke bomb boxes (that's twenty smoke grenades) and a powerfist. This combo was purchased with the sole reason of using thermal goggles to wrest absolute domination of the circumstance from security, only if they decided to be so careless as to run into the smoke. Ultimately, none did - with the exception of Schev's officer. I began running out of the smokes - buying more to keep up.

4. At this point, the raiders are getting whittled down. One raider has been decapitated and is being dragged along on the floor to be recovered. I couldn't keep covering my buddy who, at this point, was injecting berserk stims to keep fighting. I broke off and escaped alone to the cargo bay area.

5. After a short downtime, I collected myself in the cargo bay, and I notice Schev's officer walking through maintenance on my own thermals. I notice that Schev's officer is wearing looted thermals and holding the energy glaive from the teammate I was just trying to save. I make it clear I can see them through the wall by emoting and pointing at them. The gesture, if I recall, was returned, and preceded them alerting their department of my location. They activated the glaive.

6. Here's where it gets funny. Schev's officer actually took the advantage here, if I recall correctly, by priming flashbangs without tossing them. They simply walked in holding flashbangs that detonated in-hand in one hand, with a glaive in the other. Just before they did this, I detonated smoke, which gave me a brief enough cover to avoid getting killed then and there.

7. Using more smoke as cover, I powerfist punched them to disarm them of the weapon that would otherwise instantly kill me, as I had no helmet, no limb guards, and only a vest.

8. This began the actual fight with the glaive. I ended up having to pursue them for a solid minute or two constantly swinging, missing and hitting them with the glaive, dumping the remnants of the only .45 mag I had towards them, shooting x-rays, etcetera, all in an attempt to down, or in a best case scenario, kill the threat.

9. Donny Willey, an atmospheric technician, wandered into the engagement by happenstance, and in the panic began to disarm me. As I saw more people coming into the tunnel, I didn't have much of a choice but to break off then and there - as Donny had successfully taken my glaive and energized it in an attempt to again kill me with it.

10. After I broke off, I scurried for less than 20-30 seconds into an adjacent tunnel. I realized that, if there were so many people there, I wouldn't be able to accomplish anything, even with how relatively-unharmed I was. I knew the best bet of me getting my colleagues out of the brig (which, they turned out to be dead anyway) was a security officer's card, not to mention the one who just spent the last number of minutes expressly trying to murder me.

11. I jabbed exactly 5u of a combat hypo, toggled run, and returned to try and get the glaive back. Since I was out of ammo outside of it, and out of any alternatives, the glaive was my only odds of survival. When I returned, Donny had dropped the glaive to try treating Schev's officer. So, I took the glaive back. Before I could weasel my way out of it, I was cornered by a first responder, Donny and Schev's officer again. After that, I began clicking on the closest target to hit all 3 with the cleave to try and clear space. After 5-6 swipes of the glaive, Donny's head flew off, but Schev's officer had gotten a redgrab off on me, and promptly after I was killed. I don't know when or how the grab got off, because at the time I didn't notice it at all, which I commented on at the time.

In terms of powergaming, this boils down to a critique of my usage of smoke and thermals. For why, I literally can not imagine, you say this in the very same round you pursued me with a looted glaive and thermals of your own. There were obviously "counterplays" (such as not walking into the smoke) and in the end your character still survived. What makes it okay to insist I'm powergaming when ultimately, I used smoke grenades as intended? You mean I can't use thermals to look through opaque things? Why do I even have them? Should I just not fight back? This sure is getting to sound oppressively unfun even being forced to justify it to you.

I don't actually want this pursued on the part of kyres further, I would like this dropped. I will get over the situation, I acted pretty harshly opening with this complaint, and I am sorry for DMing you my frustrations like that and then locking you out of further discussion in DMs. I don't expect you have any interest talking to me, but if you want a more proper apology, I have you unblocked.
