Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I get my pantaloons rather distraught over 'losing', but after a few minutes I get over it. I only really complain in complaints when I don't think there's any good intention behind the behaviour. Being ganked just makes me immediately go "WELL POOPOO PANCAKES I JUST LOST" but if there was some form of rhyme and reason to it, it's completely fine. Quote

hivefleetchicken Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 EDIT: Actually, fuck that, I have nothing to apologize for. Read the question again, will you? what about dying/getting killed without RP pisses you off? Not just to the complaint owners right now, but to everyone who really gets their gears grinder when they see that stuff. What about death makes you so uptight and vindictive? The question was personal. I answered from the key required. I meant making your own opinion a personal means to attack you with. I was actually trying to defend your statement. Apologies for my wording. Quote

Apologies for my wording. Nono. Here's the play that I pointed out. You posed the question in the key of, "What makes you pissed off?" The question is clear and simple -- and personal. So, I answered in the perceived key. And I kept answering in the perceived key. Delta took issue with the fact that I'm only talking to myself, gleefully overstepping the fact that the thread is posed as it is (which is a silly move, specially when coupled with the strawman he built up on my writing). I then apologized it, momentarily forgetting why I answered as I did. Upon remembering, I added that edit for Delta to read and re-evaluate his stance. You're fine, Hive. And I enjoy the general spirit of this thread. Quote

Covert0ddity Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 While back in the day I used to become super salty over death, now it bothers me when people do. Death is part of a story, and, supposedly, here at Aurora? We're supposed to be making a story. Not a story about romanticisms and high-school drama, although it's certainly acceptable. But a story about meaningful character interaction with events that have weight on the playerbase, their emotions, and their decisions. Death is a means to an end, something which nearly everyone is afraid of, and something that can be touching, saddening, or maddening in the right situations. People shouldn't get so angry at death. When I die, I ghost, look around for a little, and wait eagerly until I can play again. Quote

Japak121 Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I think people tend to get salty about dieing because they have it set in there mind that there character is the hero of this story and that the hero shouldn't die. Everyone wants to feel like there character is special and necessary, few people play with the idea in mind that there character is there to support anyone else or that there death may contribute to the enjoyment of others. SilverTalismen Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 In all honesty, I don't plan on making complaints about people [this could be subject to change rendering me a liar] the way I deal with a problem I encounter ingame is as follows :Ganking: I ahelp a admin, explain the situation, circumstances, wait for a response, if they can do something fine, if they can't fine I drop my issue and either wait to respawn or watch how things play out with the ganker, If it's griefing, I ahelp about it and buckle down depending on what type of grief it is, if someone has a issue with me or my characters, I work it out with them to avoid having a complaint made against myself and to make friends [i promise im a terrible person once you get to know me <3] I don't see the point in letting what happened in the past affect whats going on now, yes I learn from these experiences and use better guidelines for my future, but Im not going to hate someone because they ganked me a month ago or something like that, you know? Dreamix Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Blah, blah, blah. Just wanted to speak up. And here's me, I just want someone to kill me, without it being a gank (random kill, just for the sake of killing), or literally taking me out of cryo for a execution. Last time I remember me dying as a humanoid character was 2-3 months ago, during nuke, when I died because security rushed a pack of operatives with hostages with EMP's, and my character's mechanic heart exploding in the process. Really, I even make my characters talk-first with obviously (from the OOC point of view) antags, my non-command humans have a synthetic heart, and command humans don't use sunglasses and leave their guns in their lockers. I even let people enter my office to talk with them, just waiting for them to take their gun out of their satchels, and aim at me from across the desk. Of course, I don't want it to look like I'm 'griefing', making my character too vulnerable and literally giving them my ID, disarming them, and suiciding. I just don't get to die, I would like to see some antags break into the bridge using bombs, guns blazing all the way into my office and I would be happy to surrender. Or angry employee to come to their office with a gun, killing their superiors. That does not happen, however. Also, "murderboning". Unless I was killed for the sake of killing, and actually my character's death gave something to the killer (whether it's access, intel, silencing, stealing of identity, making others fearful, anything), I will not make a complaint. Also, "metagrudging". I will try to see my, and the supposed metagrudger actions in a "objective light/point of view". If will then try to see who was wrong, and who was right. And even if I will make a player/character/staff complaint, I will try to clarify a few things, and probably ask for archiving it a few days later. Quote

Conservatron Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 i only get upset when i die in one of two scenarios 1) I am killed with no rp AND stuffed away so nobody can ever hope to retrieve my body, happened 2x i think 2) I am killed because sec is stupid and does things that actively put me in harms way. Otherwise its whatever. I am intentionally novice in robustness on Xullie, put him in a fist fight and he'll hold his own but gun in his hand? He's have like a safety lesson and maybe a couple hours of practice but will probably shoot wide especially at a distance. Maybe it comes from being a long term 'antagonist' player on my old NWN server but I don't have to win to have fun Quote
