Skull132 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 As a note, I've assigned this to Lord Lag. The first thing we're looking into is making low temperature kill slimes again.
Conservatron Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 note - it looks possible to kill slimes with brute damage I had a round where there was a slime outbreak so I grabbed engineering's firefighter mech and went to spray them to death. burnt through two full water tanks and then started just smashing them with my gripper. It was so much more effective popping them like the killer pimples they are.
Skull132 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 You can. The ironic thing is, killing slimes with massive amounts of brute damage is more effective than water atm. Which is awful, and will be changed, by making extinguishers more effective.
UnknownMurder Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Oh god, i was there. I suspect it was a heist round, given the robbery of the captain's office. I spent most of my shift treating people with battle wounds, and then suddenly at the end, slime apocalypse. I spent the last part of the shift attempting to get an EVA suit and rescue people, while our main EMT flew around in an Odysseus commendably trying to scoop up the wounded until she ran out of power while surrounded by the things, and presumably died. I never heard from her again after i told her to make a break for medbay Fire extinguishers just suck, i feel like that's the main problem. i didn't see any point in trying to fight them. Killing them with normal damage should be possible too though, i found a shotgun on the floor and there wasn't any reason to fire it. Odysseus Operator? She died in front of me.

Lured them down maintenance, and just whacked it down the hall into the wall. Could you look into a way of making it so xenobiologists aren't having to physically get in contact with them but making them more aggressive as they die? Perhaps a little sprinkler trap between the doorway in. Where if it gets wet it'll be a little more unpredictable and attempt to break out.
Damarik Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Yep. Done with Xenobiology until it's fixed. Apparently, if you get glomped and have to wrestle a slime off of you, it resets their friendship value. That's the only thing I can think of. I fed the slimes in that top pen 4 times in a row while staying in constant view, but because I kept getting glommed on, they would not befriend me. It ended up getting me killed...AGAIN. This is total crap.

When you're going to kill them keep a monkey in the slimes cone of vision. Wtf are do you mean "why are are they given an opportunity"? How the hell else are you supposed to move them from pen to pen? Guess what? I used your little monkey-vision idea...and they STILL went after me. I wrestled the slime off the monkey long enough to get it into a new pen, and the second we were in the chute? BAM! Hit me like a sack of bricks. They Myth that they'll go after monkeys first and only when they can see one is just that: a friggn' myth. That monkey was in line of sight the entire time, even when in the second chute.

It's not a myth. I pull it off successfully each shift. You just have to break line of sight with yourself. Let one slime out to immediately attach to the monkey, drag it into it's new cell. Slimes aren't /that/ difficult, you just have to ensure you're not their target. If you are, close the shutter for a second, and reset their vision.
Damarik Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Letting it nab the monkey is counter intuitive to the whole idea. By the time you get it into the next oen, it will already have consumed enough energy to grow to adult size.

I can physically hop on tonight and show you how easy it is if you'd like.
Damarik Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I work until around 5AM, EST. If you're up around then, I would love to see this method. I am rather quite tired of being slime food.
Carver Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Remember to knock out every monkey you give to slimes. Punch them out before the slime is on them, and after, for good measure. This method has never failed me in keeping slimes as friendly to me.
