[Accepted] DatBerry's Tajara Whitelist App!

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: DatBerry

Character Names: Gordon Armstrong, Rob Oster, Solomon Howard, Steven Ashford and a bunch of less active characters

Species you are applying to play: Tajara

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): wheat

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Maybe

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: i want to branch out to other races, starting from tajara, they have a long and well written lore page and their history of nobility, past and present conflicts is fertile soil to grow characters from, you could have rebels, loyalist, tajara trying to escape and give a better life to their off springs, or some who don't care much about the politics or the history of their people and only care about furthering their own standing, all backed with already well established lore.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

they're different game mechanics wise, and lore wise, they have a weird speech style compared to humans, they overheat in room temperature, they have to use specialized equipment, which is sometimes not easily accessible which can lead some tajara to feel unwelcome, which is great!

Character Name: Mohammed Al'Adeli

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Born after the first revolution he was given an offworlder's name, to a family of old loyalists, Mohammed's Father was M'sai while his mother was a Njarir', they were of the few who held the nobles as gods, they were benefiting from the old regime and the first revolution was not something they were happy with to say the least, mohammed was always told about how great the nobles were and how the revolution ruined everything and that it was a ploy by the space-faring big pharma nanotrasen, not totally convinced, Mohammed lived his life somewhat normally, till the second war came.

With the declaration of the new kingdom of adhomai, both father and son(after being persuaded) joined the new kingdom's army, tasked with defending their home town which was a safe distance from the front line, mohammed thought he wouldn't see action in a few years unless he's relocated, but 3 months after his conscription his town was heavily bombarded, his mother and most of the populace dead, the kingdom decided to relocate Mohammed's brigade to the front lines, where he would meet his father and deliver the news.

Tasked with assisting the front lines, they were sent to the western front, were they had to help a encircled brigade, the fight was obviously in the republic's favor and moahmmed's company was planning to retreat, when he noticed his father's body shivering in the snow, he slowly approached, he lost his left and right leg and half of his face is blooded, the father was praying to the snow god, which was surprising to him, as he always knew his father was a devoted loyalist who only worshiped the nobles, the father turned, painfully, after noticing his son, he called him over, he wanted to tell him about his past, his mother and everything, but only managed to tell him one thing, the he always regretted his loyalty to the nobles, mohammed was about to tell his father about his mother's death when a shell fell down on the spot, finishing off the father and taking mohammed's right leg with it.

heavily injured and crippled, mohammed had to retire from service, with internal organ damage and a missing leg, the kingdom's nonexistent medical insurance did not suffice.

mohammed left the kingdom of adhomai and traveled all the way to the republic's capital, fascinated by the difference, he was filled with hope that he could recover his leg, or at least be able to walk again without a cane, at the capital, he met his uncle, who worked as a mine quartermaster for nanotrasen, his uncle's values were very different than his father, yet mohammed felt he was with his family again, after arriving, he spent a few months with his uncle, he told him about his family, and how they were devoted snowman worshipers, his brother, mohammed's dad fell for a catbeast of noble descent, and he had tried everything to get on her good side, leaving his religion was one of these things.

mohammed quickly got a contract with nanotrasen, in exchange for a prosthetic, he has signed up a contract to work as a cargo technician, he also has hopes to apply for a cadetship once he gets used to his new leg.

What do you like about this character? this is probably the deepest character i have made so far, he had to deal with the fact that his dad thought with his dick and eventually costed him his leg, he developed a hatred for the nobility and his father and their unnecessary war that he got dragged into.

him being in the countryside left him like he was living under a rock, the racism he will receive will be caught the shocker for him (sadly this rarely if ever happens ICly so ill just have to RP as if it already happened)

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6.5/10 really bad

Notes: ive seen better reviews given to longer and deeper backstories but the question asks for a short story, so i made a somewhat middle sized one

I thought I replied to this.

I'm going with +1. DB is a mature and capable roleplayer. He knows his shit, he knows his mechanics, his lore, etc... He's pretty kosher. He's level-headed, and I trust him not to make a purple cat that goes uguu every third word.

Oh hey its a thing.

Somethings:

One, I hate your characters name.

Two, I hate your characters race.

Three, I hate your character.

Four:

DayBerry is one of the most entertaining, if not nicest of the staff team that I get to spend my time with. I would like for him to get what he wants in his life and become the Fursona of his dreams

Hi, Kitty Cat Master here.

I really appreciate you having a character that's actually (been) involved in the conflict on Adhomai, since most players skip to the "refugee raised on a human ship" formula.

That alone is pretty sweet, so after a bit more peer evaluation so everyone has a chance to post, I'd be happy to form a verdict on this.

I'll have you know Arrkady is a veteran of two revolutionary wars.

Datberry makes fun of me for grammatical mistakes in LOOC when I play late at night so I fukken h8 him he's pretty funny.

I /really/ like this character, and since Arrkady was also a wheat m'sai, but a veteran of the revolutionaries, I really look forward to the animosity and arguments which might rage between them on station. Two average Tajarans who under different circumstances might have gotten along, enemies of circumstance on different sides of political borders. Anywho, these possibilities are tantalizing to me, but as far as your roleplay abilities go, I've had limited interactions with your characters, but enough to know that you're a solid roleplayed. +1

Wow, it's almost like we intended for that to happen when creating the civil war as a standard that instead got ignored

I've had memorable interactions with Rob Oster and Oliver Roadmann and both of them very positive. DatBerry is also a thoroughly enjoyable person to talk to. I really like that character backstory too. :)

My only concern is if a N'Jarir would even marry an M'Sai. But if that is possible, then shoot, this is good.

Just change the name, please. Tajarans adopted humanized names for the sake of simplicity, and Mohommad is a very human name. It can be his nickname, like how My Tajara has the name Karima when her real name is Kyyir'ry'avii, but Tajaran law requires them using their real name, especially if they are citizens of Adohmai.

his mother disowned for being a slut in her teenage days, but she was still snobby, and was getting paid for ratting out people and worked as an informer for her old family.

that works, but i read on the lore page that tajara gave their newborns human names and old tajara had their's changed?

Link to comment
Huh, I don't remember reading that. I would think they wouldn't give human names out until very recently, when humanity became better known to Tajarans.

Native Tajaran names are usually difficult for humans and other species to pronounce properly; as such, older Tajaran prefer to take names (whereas young Tajaran are given them at birth) that they find they themselves are able to pronounce and are also phonetically pleasing. For many, these are names derived from Arabic or Russian backgrounds, as they are the easiest for their inhuman mouths to pronounce.

So, it is possible for a tajara to have a human name since birth.

Anyway, DatBerry is a cool and chill rper, I think he would be an interesting tajara. 1+ this application.

Hey, how's it going?

Datberry seems pretty chill OOCly, and shares my hobby of idle bitching when bored, so I figured I should look at his application.

This character is, like all characters from a snow-planet, a snowflake. Now let's talk about how that's a good thing in this case. First, he's from the New Kingdom. That's something we hardly ever see in the on-station Tajara. It's not bad that the majority of the Tajara we see are from the Republic, in fact it makes sense, but it certainly seems like we've been due for one of these for some time.

It'll be interesting to see how young Meowmix handles the new society. It's a huge change of pace for him and it seems like you've considered the angles quite well. Throwing in my two cents, it makes perfect sense that little Scratcher was born with a Human name. Apparently his dad remembers the Humans coming by and the knee-high kill-cat himself was born after TajaraxHumanity first contact. Still, I'd totally believe he goes by a native name now. It's a really popular trend now.

A few of the details you've mentioned say a lot about how aware you already are of the Tajara playstyle. " (sadly this rarely if ever happens ICly so ill just have to RP as if it already happened)" in particular pretty much tells me you "know what's up" so to speak.

I'm all for this. Pretty please don't mess it up.

+1.

Hi Datberry! It's clear a lot of people - myself included - think you'd be great for the role of furry catbeast cripple mcdegenerate.

Your backstory is charmingly consistent with the lore, and your knowledge of the race is obviously extensive.

This application is accepted.

However you did just make me miss my fucking bus when I stopped to type this and I feel like murdering you right now
