[Resolved] Staff Complaint: AimlessAnalyst 2016-05-14 11.10 GMT

Recommended Posts

Byond Key: NanakoAC

Staff Byond Key: AimlessAnalyst

Reason for complaint: Not helping with a bug.

Events happened on: 2016-05-14

At roughly the time of: 11.10 GMT

During a deadhour cult round, aimless was the only admin online. Security (which consisted of only one person) asked me to come out and help him at the research outpost, and to cut open doors with my fire axe. I took the odysseus too because the shuttle dock was vented, the officer was in my passenger compartment.

We went there, found nobody, and decided to go back, we got into the station, and up to the outer door of the shuttle dock, and then my internet died. got disconnected for a few minutes.

I came back to find my axe gone, but i was still inside the odysseus, as far as i'm aware, there's no way he could have taken it from me, because there's no way to easy way to take me out, and i wasn't gone long enough. It was simply destroyed in some bug. As i logged in, the officer was gone and there was a portal next to me. I hadn't noticed the axe was gone yet, and decided not to follow through without confirmation that it was safe first. I tried talking to him over the radio, but got no answer, and the portal naturally closed.

So there i was, trapped in a vented dock. I'd prepared for this eventuality by bringing the axe, but a bug had destroyed it. I asked aimless in OOC to spawn another one for me.

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: expect me to do any useful admin things next round

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: im deader than deadhour rn

Nanako Magojiro gasps!

Nanako Magojiro gasps!

Nanako Magojiro starts to climb into PURIST

Nanako Magojiro gasps!

Health Scanner HUD prevent you from using PURIST Integrated Medical Hud

OOC: NanakoAC: hey aimless, my fire axe was destroyed in a bug

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: rip you

OOC: NanakoAC: Got disconnected while in an exosuit, it vanished from my hands. Respawn it please

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: rip you.

OOC: DatBerry: >aimless >doing their job

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: that'll teach you for bringing a fire axe literally everywhere :^)

OOC: DatBerry: you came to the wrong analyst

OOC: NanakoAC: come on, it's a bug. Debugging is a fine use of admin powers, this bug has affected gameplay, all im asking you to do is restore the status quo

OOC: NanakoAC: and i was asked to bring it by security

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: rip

You start forcing the Emergency Shutter open with the crowbar!

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: you

I figured maybe it's because i was asking in the wrong place, so i did an ahelp:

PM to-Staff : I'm trapped in a vented area now because my axe was lost to a bug. This is an eventuality that i prepared for, and a technical problem has taken my preparations away. please fix

[Common] Yurik Mori says, "PRAISE NARSEI"

Your adminhelp will be tended by DatBerry. Please allow the staff member a minute or two to write up a response.

-- Click the Trial Moderator's name to reply --

[Trial Moderator PM] DatBerry: did you try to call for outside help?

Aimless didn't respond to the ahelp, berry took it. So i tried calling for help, nobody came. It became clear pretty quickly that the cult was murdering people, and help wouldn't be coming.

PM to DatBerry: yea thats not gonna work, people are getting murdered.

There was no farther response. I couldn't get through the locked doors in my way without that axe. I tried breaking through a window to space to reach the shuttle, but i just managed to get lost in space as the shuttle left without me.

At this point, i was about to just pass it off as aimless being too tired to do admin duties, given the words at the start of my quote. And the round ended

A round of Cult has ended!

You missed the crew transfer after the events on NSS Exodus as Nanako Magojiro.

....

An admin has delayed the round end

OOC: NanakoAC: you're delaying the round?

OOC: NanakoAC: i thought you weren't doing admin work, y u no axe

OOC: AimlessAnalyst: Nanako, I'm gonna be blunt, please hush.

No reason, i was just told to hush.

So i hushed, i wasn't about to start an argument in OOC. I think there's a time and a place for it, and this forum is the place.

Aimless delayed the end of the round, presumably to do admin stuff like warning and banning people, so clearly admin work was being done. But not my request, i feel a little singled-out here.

Was my request unreasonable? I thought using their powers to solve bugs is one of the things admins were supposed to do. The bug had a direct effect on gameplay, and all i was asking for was it to be undone.

The reason I didn't spawn the fire axe was because I was kind of trying (and failing) to not ICly be murdered by the cult at the time you were asking for a fire axe. Sorry, but we can't freeze the world to go spawn something in for someone all the time. I need to ghost out, find you, spawn a new one, then get back in my body, by which time, I'd probably have been headless. Admins play the game too, and while we're expected to be responsive to players, we're not obligated to give up our own enjoyment for the sake of a small bug. My OOC attitude towards it was, from my understanding, my usual stance of "say something mildly amusing while denying the request in an easy way, and explain later when you're no longer trying not to die." If you took it personally.... RIP you. ( No, really, it shouldn't be a personal thing, and I'm sorry if you took it as such )

When I told you to hush, we were in the middle of dealing with three players who'd decided it would be fun to bumrush and gank anyone in sight without a word of buildup, RP or reason to their action other than "lol time to kill people 4 nur'sie." It was just myself and DatBerry at the time, and as such, I wasn't exactly willing to get into a long, drawn-out explanation then and there as to why, exactly, I couldn't give you your fire axe. From our perspective... Consider a busy mom that has taken her son to work with her one day. She is trying to take calls, coordinate meetings, and do about ten different things on her computer. From her son's perspective, she's just looking at a screen, so he doesn't understand why she can't go get him an ice cream. Mildly irritated by the behaviour, the mother asks her son to go sit down and wait, beacuse she's busy. But she doesn't /look/ busy, I mean, how bad could it really be?

Yeah.

Hopefully that gives you a wee bit of an idea what's going on most of the time if the round end has been delayed for whatever reason.

While I may not be involved in this complaint, I believe this section of the rules qualifies me to be able to speak: http://puu.sh/oRz1F/9ceb466a25.png And, my proof will be in the puddin' fairly soon.

So Nanako's axe was destroyed because of their internet cutting out, making them drop whatever was in their hands at the time inside the mech, which in turn, makes it disappear. Their reasoning was sound; they brought an axe with them as an emergency tool because they knew they'd get in an area where such a tool would be needed. This is what you would realistically do as a sane human being, and when I read this:

http://puu.sh/oRzdh/e09d1927e6.png I thought "Wowee."

Jennalele claims that she didn't spawn an axe for Nanako because she was right in the middle of trying not to be murdered by the cult. Yet, as I hear that, I'm drawn back to this piece of evidence: http://puu.sh/oRzls/531426e842.png

She still had time to, in numerous instances, say "rip you" over and over again in OOC, which for some reason (Oh, I don't know why) makes me believe that they did in fact, have time to do what Nanako had asked, which was a completely reasonable, perfectly achievable feat. And before I get a barrage of "YOU AREN'T A STAFF MEMBER YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPAWNING AND AGHOSTING", let me tell you this.

I was.

I know exactly how to aghost out of my body, jump to someone, bring up the spawn menu, find the fire axe, while looking through a very small selection of text-blocks mind you, and return to my body in less than 5 seconds flat, if even that. Spawning something for someone takes absolutely no time whatsoever if you're looking for something as simple as a fire axe.

http://puu.sh/oRzyd/0b46f40ec2.png Again, completely reasonable request. It was only met with more passive-aggressive, snarky remarks in the form of "rip you".

I need to ghost out, find you, spawn a new one, then get back in my body, by which time, I'd probably have been headless.

It literally takes five seconds, which was more than enough time for you to type "rip you" about four times in OOC.

Admins play the game too, and while we're expected to be responsive to players, we're not obligated to give up our own enjoyment for the sake of a small bug.

Administrators are expected to be responsive to players, that's correct. However, they are not expected to ignore (or in this case, practically insult) players when a "small bug" ended up killing Nanako, because a tool that they'd brought in advance for this very specific reason was destroyed, because of said bug. I'd also like to bring up the FACT mind you, that administrators do play the game, but you absolutely are obligated to help out the player that's had their experience ruined because of a bug while you're the only staff member online that can actually fix it. How you can even get away with saying this is beyond me; you're an administrator for a reason.

My OOC attitude towards it was, from my understanding, my usual stance of "say something mildly amusing while denying the request in an easy way, and explain later when you're no longer trying not to die." If you took it personally.... RIP you.

You have a history of being brash and quite rude in almost every aspect when it comes to interacting with people, and I can see where Nanako is coming from by looking at the evidence provided. Giving the reason "I couldn't do anything because I play the game too and I was trying to stay safe from the cult" doesn't excuse the fact that you still decided to practically insult them again and again. In fact, I'm willing to bet you've banned someone for doing this very thing. To turn around and do it yourself is...well.

Okay, imagine this. Jennalele is a fire chief outside a burning building, co-ordinating their firemen, generally being a bit busy, but ultimately, being a fire chief, just hangs back and continues to give the orders. Not really in danger, not really spearheading the operation, just laying back and playing it cool, like a chief should. Then Nanako, let's say she's a 10 year old child, runs up to the fire chief, and begs her to save their family's dog in a building that had its door collapsed just beside the burning one. It's very clear that the building the dog was trapped in wasn't in danger of the fire immediately, but then Jennalele, instead of co-ordinating an effort to save the dog which is entirely possible at that moment, sits the girl down for twenty minutes and tells her just why she can't instruct two firemen to clear some menial rubble out of the way. By the time the talk is over, the fire has spread, and the dog is most certainly dead.

Moral of the story? Fuck anyone asking for help, rip them.

First time back on the forums, see this. Being a former mod myself, besides multiple things being wrong with ...all of this.

I just want to point out that you put all this effort in a complaint about not getting a fire axe from staff after you lost one.

You could have called for help, I saw you said that you didn't get a response. Im assuming thats just from the officer, but if its from everyone then I somewhat understand.

But Im curious how long you were out of the round for? How long were you trapped?

Even after all this.

This is over /a fire axe/. You weren't ganked, you werent banned, you weren't screamed at and embarrassed. You just didn't get a fire axe.

Dont put this much effort into something so...pointless.

1: I crash, almost guaranteed, whenever I jump to someone. So there would be 10 seconds of frozen byond. The crash. Restarting the game. Waiting for the ad. Coming back in. /then/ spawning the item. In which time I'd be a headless corpse on the ground, too.

2:I was going to PM Nanako a formal explanation when everything wasn't chaos, but by the time I had a moment to, DB and I were handling cases of gank on part of said cultists. In the moment, yes, I forgot.

So yes. I'm sorry you apparently died from this, Nanako. Normally, yeah, I'd go spawn one for you, but it kind of happened at the worst possible time for both parties involved. Sorry.

@jennalele

This seems to have inflated a bit more than intended.

i died, these things happen. I was really more upset about the impression that you were taunting me about it :/

Instead of the replies you did send, i'd really have been happier with an overall shorter explanation, like 'Sorry too busy with griefers'. I'd have understood that completely and not taken the issue farther. As it was, i had no idea that you were busy with anything until the round end. and 'rip you' came across as some combination of lazy and vindictive, which i now understand wasn't the case

So just, more communication next time? (actually, saying that explanation would be less communication, but it'd still be more helpful)

Literally this.

Saying you're busy with something, or that you're busy, is fine. But responding in the manner that you did, Jenn, leaves the player confused and disgruntled. Taunting like that only really works whenever you actually carry out the requested act as well, thus playing off on the mixed signals sent (actions invalidating words).

Link to comment

Aye. I didn't mean to give that impression- Honestly, I'm the last person to willingly taunt someone over something that isn't even their fault, so I'm sorry that's the impression you got. I'll try to sneak a lil more information in next time.
