Ian The Corgi Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) Cryogenics is the branch of physics dealing with the production and effects of very low temperatures. Cryonics the deep-freezing of human bodies at death for preservation and possible revival in the future. These terms are often misused when dealing with the subject of cold temperatures and stasis, to fix this issue I propose that the following areas and items be renamed: - Cryo Cell (the ones in medical) should be renamed to Cryotherapy Cell - Cryogenic Storage (The Ones for SSD'ing) should be renamed for Cryostasis Links for Terminology: Cryogenics: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/cryogenics Cryonics: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/cryonics Cryotherapy: http://www.bad.org.uk/shared/get-file.ashx?id=192&itemtype=document Cryostasis: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/cryostasis To support to cause give a +1 Edited August 7, 2016 by Guest
Ian The Corgi Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Petition to overthrow the UK Government, begin, I already have one backer.
Jboy2000000 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I can get behind this. And because this isn't the whitelist section and no one can stop me. PLUS ONE
LordFowl Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I can get behind this. And because this isn't the whitelist section and no one can stop me. There is never anyone able to stop you, jboy.
Owen Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I like the idea of officially renaming it. I have noticed recently, quite a few people referring it to Cryostasis and Cryotherapy.
Ian The Corgi Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 Thanks for everyones response in less than 1 day
Dreamix Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 And we also have people naming these cyrogenics. Duck these people. +1
Pratepresidenten Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 This sounds like a pretty valid suggestion. +1 for this.
nicemoreoften Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 +1. Everyone calls it cryo anyway, but if realism is possible and it doesn't mess with lore, +1.
Ian The Corgi Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 I think the support in this subject is pretty overwhelming now, and its a pretty quick-fix. Please harass others to support this if you like the idea.
Ian The Corgi Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 If anyone is wondering, the Cryo Beaker does keep its name, its accurate, check out the source for cryostasis if you're interested in why its right. Whoever named this one is a little smartie
Nikov Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 +1 for increasing our place on the Moh's Scale of Scientific Hardness. It also solves that "I just got out of cryo", "wait you were in the medbay"? meme.
Wesmas Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 - Cryo Cell (the ones in medical) should be renamed to Cryotherapy Cell - Cryogenic Storage (The Ones for SSD'ing) should be renamed for Cryostasis The thing with your new names is they start with the same thing, cryo. We all tend to shorten things, and we tend to use the begining, meaning I will still call both of them cryo. But it does make sense. Perhaps a slightly different name, but it needs to happen. +1
Ian The Corgi Posted August 31, 2016 Author Posted August 31, 2016 Thanks for your comment, but thats sort of exactly my point, its not a large change, and people who do not take notice of it wont be affected.
