Fortport Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 It might not be immediately obvious, depending on the cyborg's icon, that they're dead. Sometimes, all that happens is their eyes stop glowing. ( Looking at you, sleek. ) A cyborg should topple over if it was beaten so hard it dies, for the same reason that a human knocked unconscious would fall down. With no power to keep itself upright on its two feet, how could it resist whatever impact well enough to stand tall? If laser beams can punch through their chassis or a changeling can rip them apart, why not? Characters might have more empathy for the machine if it looks helpless like this, at the very least. It 'dies' similarly to how an organic would. If a cyborg has legs, with no treads or wheels, why would you be pushing it across the floor while it's standing upright? Wouldn't it be easier to drag it on its back?
Chada1 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 The main issue with this, is that not all of the Cyborg Sprites are humanoid. You'd have to sprite a different death state for every single sprite, and IDK about you, but as a Cyborg player, I wouldn't want to lose any Sprites for this concept, the subtle cue of their eyes and powerpoints turning off is good enough, IMO. You can use AIPM to get peoples attention to rescue you, you don't need it to be completely obvious that you're disabled. But this does remind me of another idea that I had, that did the same thing, but I don't know if that would go in its own thread or not. Furthermore, many of the Cyborgs do have treads/wheels and float. You could reduce the amount of work of this if you just sprited laying down for the humanoid ones, but again, it's a lot of work for relatively little pay-off, and the current features are just fine...

There's only a few humanoid cyborgs, and it's just flipping the sprite that's already there...no extra spriting. You also cannot make them wear clothes, which helps the spriter to an extent. What bothers me, however, is that a cyborg can send PMs without a power cell in its body to begin with. How can it send messages without any power to operate?

It's because not everything in the Cyborg is disabled. Some of the internal circuits have their own power supplies. It's not a farfetched concept. These are autonomous machines in the blackness of space. It would seem like a design oversight if they didn't have the bare minimum for locating them if they were lost in Space and ran out of power. I'd say the AIPM messager simply has its own minor battery. EZ. But, I will maintain my stance that I wouldn't want to lose any sprites for this. That said, if someone wanted to set some new death states for the few Sprites, SURE? Not really any reason for me to be against that.
ben10083 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Maybe instead a automatic fax is sent to robotics with cyborg location (example: NOTIFICATION: B.O.B is out of power/ destroyed at (place and coords)
Arrow768 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Stay on topic. This topic is about borgs falling over when they are dead and not about borgs being able to send PMs when the cell is taken out. Regarding the former. As mentioned already: We have a lot of borgs that dont use legs and I dont see why all those borgs should suddenly "fall over" when they area dead. You can always examine a borg to check if it is dead. Unless someone provides good sprites for the death state for all borgs, I am voting for dismissal
