Carver Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Blood Boil rune can outright kill non-cultists if they're close enough to it. Having prosthetic limbs can have them soak and mitigate the damage from the blood boil rune, allowing you to potentially survive if you're close, albeit at the loss of a limb. Wizards who take the Mutate spell can use it not just to gain strength, but to become temporarily immune to stuns in combat. This includes batons, getting dropped by pepperspray, flashes, and generally anything you can think of. Right-click the SMG you're given as a Nuke Op and set it to Burst Fire. It retains the fire rate of a regular SMG whilst spitting out thrice the shots, allowing you to actually defend yourself against baton-rushing security/cyborgs with relative ease. Remember to aim for the chest on the former, and either the groin or the arms (Holding the baton) on the latter. It is often easier to 'Disarm' a member of Security in combat than to kill them if they're wearing armour. Aiming for the hands will provide the best results for blade users. If you can surgically and quickly seal the stumps (Do all parts of the limb replacement surgery, up to actually putting a new limb on) then they won't die from it, this is useful in keeping around hostages after they try to escape. Continuing from the last tip, if someone has only one hand, they cannot be cuffed. Try not to cut off your own hand unless it's prosthetic, elsewise you're both a touch insane (Unless you really want to escape) and liable to bleed out if not tended to quickly. Strait-jackets can still be used to restrain handless combatants. A strait-jacket is not straight, merely strait. You can survive in space for a short duration without a space suit. Wear a fire suit, gasmask, and fire helmet (I think any helmet works) and you can crawl around in space. Afterwards, drink lots of coffee to lose the effects of spacefreeze. Space freeze isn't a thing. (Thank god, too) To survive in space, you merely need internals of some sort and a chemical to stave off the brute damage. Bicaridine works. Prosthetics will need regular repair. Quote
Conspire2Ignite Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Something something, DO NOT PULL CRITICAL PATIENTS. USE THE GRAB INTENT. This. Don't even pull anyone who may have any sort of severe injury. It's bad and it's messy. * EXAMINE FIRELOCKS. Can't believe this hasn't been said yet. It will tell you the pressure on each side of the firelock AND, in red text, whether or not the pressure difference can hurt you! If it can hurt you, DON'T OPEN IT and call for someone that knows what the fuck they're doing. Usually it's engineering, but sometimes it's being run by chucklefucks so... * Maintenance tunnels don't have firelocks, so you could very well open one and be knocked flat on your ass, gasping for air. If you've been informed of a breach near a location, don't open maintenance tunnels near or leading to there. It's likely those are also compromised. * Yelling "Help" over the radio actually alerts three different departments: Medical, Security, and Engineering. Try to be more specific. "I'm dying!" will tell Medical to get in gear. "I'm being attacked!" will get Medical AND Security in gear. "There's NO AIR!" will get Medical and Engineering in gear. Huh. Guess yelling "Help" is only useful for Medical. Giving a location before anyone has to ask for one is a bonus. Quote

Guest Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 As security, one of the healthiest mindsets you can have is focusing on justice. Never lead yourself stray with personal issues with certain characters or with any vendettas. Hunting down nuke ops for vengeance for your friend that got shot in the bar will only lead to your own fall. Twice the pride, double the fall. Focus on your oath to protect and serve. You swore on that, didn't you? You better have. You'll notice this mindset will make /you/ a better player as well. You'll start thinking of possible outcomes and approach situations decisively and carefully. The better you become at focus, the more people you will save. Strive. Assess. Reassess. Adapt. Act. React. Quote

If somebody is being murdered in another room, but somebody is breaking into the medical bay, you're supposed to go for the break-in first. Quote
Guest Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 ...Uhh. No. If someone is being murdered and there was a break-in at chemistry, the smart thing to do would be to assess priority of a security response by level of severity. Break-ins can be investigated later, an assault-in-progress is to be dealt with FIRST. It makes no IC sense you would prioritize taking fibers from a broken window over saving someone from getting their gullet sliced open. Quote

NanoTrasen values the trillion dollar facility over easily replaceable crew. Priority 1: Station preservation Priority 2: Employee preservation Priority 3: Self preservation I believe that is the priorities of our SOP for Security and Heads of Staff. Quote
Blue Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Well, I don't think anyone would lynch you for going for the dying guy before the break in. Okay, tips. [*]Bicaridine, Anti-Toxin, and Dermaline all heal faster in their aspects than Tricord. Use a mixture of these three for super effectiveness [*]Smoke has an ability to basically multiply the amount of a substance you can have in you. For example, if I have 10 units of Bicard and I make smoke and stand in it long enough, I'll probably have like 20 something in me. [*]You can put chemicals in cigs. They don't react unless you light them. Smoke + Chloral cigar, anyone? Quote

witchbells Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 There's a certain threshold of damage where bones fracture automatically. If you try to surgically repair a bone while it's still too damaged, it'll just break again. The threshold is fifteen brute. Anything under and you won't have any problems repairing it. Quote

SierraKomodo Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Don't pet the Tajarran. Apply dakka directly to the forehead. If it's red, it goes fast. And now for something a little more serious: If you're going to repair a breach, ALWAYS bring the inflatable barriers, a full stack of metal, and a full stack of glass, at a bare minimum. Trust me, you'll go through a lot more materials than you think you will. The barriers are because there is always that guy that opens a firelock - The barriers let you setup a secondary 'airlock' point to prevent venting everything into space when the inevitable happens, or if you need to get through that door/firelock to fix it. Quote
K0NFL1QT Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I've seen Random McAssistant go through the inflatable doors, rip off Engineering Tape, crowbar a firelock and go through an airlock in a breached area. You cannot stop them. They have no self preservation. Quote
Jamini Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 What it says in a tin! Post up the little tricks and tips you know (or learn, or discover) that people might not know here! 1. Opening a crate underneath a player will stun them. 2. Mangled gloves cannot be made into stun gloves, but the specialized ones ordered from cargo can. 3. You can use tools on alt-clicked items. Very useful if you need to rewire a SMES quickly. 4. You can scan paper with your PDA. The text scanned goes to your notekeeper. It will keep formatting while doing this. 5. NSS-Aurora Forms can be found in any request console. 6. You can move a pulled object by double-clicking on an empty tile. 7. Objects moved in the manner of #6 will be oriented in the direction you move them, regardless of weather they move or not. (So, for example, you can pull a shield capacitor and double-click the tile underneath the generator to make it point at the generator without needing to use the rotate verb. Bonus points if you use alt-click to do this!) 8. The shock resistance power only protects you from shocks from exposed wires. (This is an oversight/bug) 9. Dermaline and Kelotane heal rates stack. Mix your chems 50/50 for best effect! 10. Carrots contain Imozedine, and can repair your eyes without going to medical! 11. Iron triples your blood restoration rate, and overdoses at 30 units. 12. Apples contain Iron. An apple a day will keep blood loss away! 13. Normal dexalin is virtually worthless. It only removes oxyloss when you are not in critical. 14. You can dissolve pills into any fluid. 15. You can grind pills. 16. You can put reagents into cigarettes, they are applied when you light the cigarette. 17. You can directly drink any chemical if it is placed in a drinkable container (like a teacup) 18. You can put any chemical into an IV from any container. Including say... holy water. (Ninja chaplain decult go!) 19. You can fight a number of things behind your spare ear. Including penlights and paperclipped paper stacks. 20. Security officers never actually check paperwork. Just carry a few forms on you at all times and wave them in the officer's face when they question you. 21. Fire axes can one-shot any window when wielded. 22. Attacking the groin has a chance to break either leg. 23. Nobody respects a quadruple amputee. 24. Lockers protect you from disposals damage. Best used to check disposals for breaks. 25. Flashlights fit in almost all forms of suit storage. 26. Emergency tanks fit in the storage of hazard vests. Freeing up your belt. Post yours! Quote
enkas Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 25. Flashlights fit in almost all forms of suit storage. Post yours! Nope. When I tried doing it with armored vest (Detective's), it didn't work with any flashlight. Nor does it work with the Holiday Priest, chaplain's robe. Quote
