Fortport Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I'm tired of blobs, carp, spiders, and other annoyances. Why can't we have little parties and quick events for workers to mingle in? I can't think of an exact example, but it would be great to encourage roleplay between characters even more than there is now. National Popcorn/Random Food day. Puzzle day. Something random that is fun and makes situations. Someone help me out here. I think you get the idea.
Ornias Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 This is a really good idea. I'd suggest having it completely replace spiders, blobs, and carp, because none of those allow for roleplay in any meaningful capacity besides "let's kick it's ass". More interesting peaceful events would spice up extended, and would be less likely to interfere with antags.
Alberyk Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 How exactly is a party going to be randomly generated?
BurgerBB Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Instead of randomly generated parties, I think heads of staff should be encouraged to host events that are most appropriate for the round. Don't want to have something like a cook-off when there are no chefs or gardeners.
LordBalkara Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 A party is announced by CC, and a random shipment of party supplies sent to Cargo.
LordFowl Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Voting for dismissal. The impetus for "non-antag" events like parties falls upon the players to organize. Enforcing it through code would be both ineffective and unnecessary.

Enforcing it through code would be both ineffective and unnecessary. I see where you're coming from, but even if it weren't every extended round? Could it really hurt? Sure, as the captain, you could say "today we're going to blabla" and do a little thing with everyone. You don't need code to do that. Does it have to be a thing as big as a party? Could it just be as mildly insignificant as a carp attack? It could be random, surprise shipments. Like if a big crate got sent to the station that was wrapped up in pretty paper with a bow on it. An animal could be inside(kittens, Ian), or something else fun/random. It doesn't have to be a gathering necessarily, just more stuff that isn't necessarily trying to kill you or be an annoying chore. Wacky things, you know?
Butterrobber202 Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 fortport what he is saying that compared to other things, no one is going to want to code this.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 I have organized several pizza parties. While they are usually hilariously out of touch attempts to improve morale and avoid a revolution there is nothing stopping you from doing it on extended. This would be a major waste of time for coders since you can, as others have said, just do it. It is strange that you are asking us to automate what you are fully capable of just.... Going ahead and doing.

Going ahead and doing. That's not the only thing I'm suggesting. Aside from parties, I mentioned non-antagonistic events. Something happening that isn't always bad or annoying. Think of a non-lethal alternative to a radiation storm. Instead of radiation, something else that's cool or a marvel of space outside the windows. How about instead of meteors, something harmless hits the station? Friendly space bears from space circus debris? Heck if I know. I'm willing to concede if that's also a waste of time.
