How long have you been playing on Aurora?:I actually found SS13 from a video on YouTube about 2 months ago. the first station I really got into was the Aurora, I have been playing on the Aurora pretty much daily for just over a month now, for about 4-8 or longer hours a night.


Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to be on the white list mainly because I love engineering in this game and becoming the Chief Engineer is a position I think would be a lot of fun to role play, But also it will be challenging at times which is good. I have been Interim Chief Engineer before and the new added aspects of helping a team and being able to quickly get repairs done with the access it gave me it sort of got me really wanted the position even more then I did before.


Why did you come to Aurora?: I found the Aurora just by browsing the listings of SS13 servers, it listed itself as being a Heavy Roleplay server which is something I always enjoyed


Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have, a few times over to make sure I have my information correct

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.


Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is in my opinion the act of taking on realistic characters life. someone with flaws and strengths and acting accordingly to how the personality of that character would. much like being a actor in a movie, its the action of putting on a mask and making that mask believable.


What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The main purpose of a Head of staff is coordination, there main task is making sure people are doing there jobs, and if they are not capable of doing there job then helping them with what is needed to do that job, They may need training, help from others, or equipment. it is up to the head of staff to make sure it gets done, and if not that then to take the initiative to do that task yourself. Other then that a head of staff is to take care of their team members and coordinate with other command in the case of emergency or just when assistance is required.


What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A whitelisted player is to be an example to non-whitelisted players, to show them how to properly roleplay and what it looks like to follow the server rules. When a new player sees someone, whitelisted race or command, but especially command as IC they are held to a higher regard and are seen as such OOC to new players they should see a High standard that they themselves should strive for, they should not see something like a chief engineer putting bombs all over the station without even being a antag or having a admins permission. seeing something like that would make them think thats the okay normal on this server and would cause chaos. It wouldn't be fun.

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Mae Aiiko was born in the Sol System to parents who traveled on a small cargo vessel working contracts for corporations within the Sol System. the ship itself had a crew of 10, 11 if you counted her. Her mother was the Chief Engineer while her father was the ships navigator. Growing up Mae always looked up to her mother and took a interest in engineering. at a young age however an accident occurred in engineering, the new hire had made a mistake in proportions causing the engine to overheat and the containment to be breached, Her father put mae into a escape pod with a crew member known as Jeffery, her father ran off to try and find Mae's mother. Jeffery waited as long as he could before launching the escape pod, her father never returned.


Jeffery now without a job and having promised to look after Mae got involved with a smuggling operation aboard a small vessel called the Hitami. Mae was left on planet alone for many months receiving payment from Jeffery every once and a while to support herself, her interest in engineering grew more and more the time she spent alone. she spent it studying books and databases over the internet. Eventually Jeffery noticed that She was skilled in what she was doing and brought her aboard the Hitami to help the engineer. the engineer guided and taught Mae building off the knowledge she already had, however he eventually died on a smuggling deal gone wrong, leaving Mae the only one with Engineering skill. through the teachings of the engineer and databases over interstellar networks She managed all the small vessels, with quite a bit of Jury Rigging engineering and atmospheric needs for 8 years until she decided that she wanted out of these dangerous operations, she applied to Hongsun Park Engineering Institute and was accepted for a doctorate program in engineering. Thanks to her many years of engineering she was able to achieve her Doctorate and began legitimate work aboard the Aurora as a Station Engineer.(Nanotresen has no idea about her past as it is not known to authorities)


What do you like about this character?: Mae is a very kind individual, who is quite playful in her interactions. she tends to look on the bright side of things and tries to make friends with who she can. because she has been a engineer for so long she is a very good engineer which allows me to easily roleplay completing almost all engineering tasks. I find her alot of fun to roleplay because she is very similar to how I am in real life, Going on random adventures and discovering fun things on the station.


What do you dislike about this character?: Because Mae is so kind she is overly trusting of everyone on the station, which as well all know can lead to bad situations. Her kindness makes her willing to do things for other people in game that I really don't feel like doing in real life (normally because its 1 or 2 am and I am exhausted). She has a fear that one of her old shady contacts may find where she works, and she is always weary of security and tends to avoid them and not be friends with them.


What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I believe that Mae would make an excellent head of staff because she knows what she is doing in her job as a engineer, she is always willing to help those in need and takes the initiative to get tasks done. A head of staff should be friendly towards all crew just like Mae, and should be willing to work around crews differences to get things done. She is capable and determined, and also a generally friendly individual who strives to put a smile on peoples faces. that is why Mae would make a good Head of staff, specifically Chief Engineer

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate my roleplay a 8/10 because no one is perfect, and sometimes it can be hard to process just what the hell is happening on the station. (for example : when being a engineer and antags are blowing everything up and attacking everyone and you just have so many tasks your trying to focus on, it can make your roleplay not as effective as it is during regular work and with say one hull breach), also I am not a antag often so i am still learning how to properly RP an Antag so there is improvement needed there as well

 

 

Extra notes: Okay so first of thank you for getting to the bottom of (and hopefully reading) my application, I hope that people know my characters from how often I play them, Ive tried to make Mae very well known by playing her continuously, Bill should be known among engineering and some medical and T-E-R I believe is decently known as well.


I know I am newer then most regulars to the station but I am hoping my pretty much daily activity for the last month and a half .


ON ONE FINAL NOTE: if you vote -1 to this please give me a brief reason why so that I can improve myself in game to hopefully change your mind to a +1, if this application is denied then I can use the -1's to know how to properly proceed on my next application in a month or more

Not gonna +1/-1 this yet, I've never seen you ingame, so.. I like the way you answered a lot of the questions. My only big concern is the backstory, I don't like that she, a self-taught person with no real training and very little experience, was able to work as the sole engineer of a ship without any problems. That's kinda unbelievable, y'know? Other than that though, the application looks pretty good.

This is a +1 from me (Though I am possibly the newest member on the server, so I'm not sure how much this counts).


I have RP'd with Mae extensively (Feels like almost every shift, and for a good amount of time during each one) and have always been pleased, whether she's an antag or not (As an antag, she RP'd before killing my character, which was very appreciated). She knows engineering very well, plays her character consistently and believably, and goes out of her way to engage others without trying to make it about her. Looking at the app, she also seems to understand the responsibility and duties of both a head of department, and whitelisted player. I also like that she's eager to receive criticism and improve herself.


The idea of Mae being promoted to Chief Engineer rather than just having a new character is a good one, IMO. It shows character growth and furthers her arc.


If I had a criticism, it would be the backstory, echoing what tbear13 already pointed out. It would be more believable if she had trouble managing things by herself. Not that she COULDN'T but I feel there would definitely be problems, at least at the start. I'd also love to see more about WHY she wanted out of that life.


I might also say that if she was older than 6 when the accident happened, she might know more about engineering, but perhaps that's just nitpicky.


That aside, I think Mae would make a great Chief Engineer.

I've seen them round from round to round. Didn't realize they had a white-list app up till today though, Mae is a really interesting character and the backstory is a good read. They've also been interim CE a few times and they've done very well in that position, if only for a round. I see no issue with this app.

After a discussion with the whitelist team, taking in consideration your application and your behavior/presence in game, we have decided to deny this for now.


Mostly because we do not really feel the character's backstory is up to the standards of what is expect from a head of staff character, and coupled with some negative feedback from the team, we have decided to deny this application for now. You are invited to try applying again in some weeks.
