LanceLynxx Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Security was infiltrated both in the ranks o fregular officers and loyalty implanted heads of security. Detectives are the first person who would catch up to this. Affiliations with the syndicate are speculated. Last i checked syndicate was not a charity organisation helping crippled children. So it took me 4 sentences to justify being worried about officers being a possible threat to you especially if you're a detective. Does it count as taking an article to a logical end? you were not given your gun by the grace of god to purify security from the taint of corruption. dont metagame antag sec without evidence. Noone ever said that and reread the article. The reason for not trusting security is all there. An official statement from NT chief released an official statement. Unless you want to say that we shouldn't trust high ranking NT officials i have no idea what you're going for and why so why is the detective not a suspect either? in that case should we disarm the entire ISD to minimize possibility of abuse?

Let's remove security as a department entirely while we're at it. Security needs to carry out their duties and they needs specific tools for it. You can't be sure your fellow collegues are trustworthy so you pack a lethal gun to protect yourself as a detective. Security officers in turn pack an entire arsenal of various gear to deal with the detective should the need arise. It's not a hard concept
Sytic Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 So if the Detective only has their gun for the sake of protecting themselves against their teammates (which is hilarious in and of itself) why did they have a gun... ever, before that? I'm not saying I want it to be removed, I'm just saying that if your only reason for the detective having a gun is for them to be able to defend themselves against their literal teammates, why would they have ever had a gun before then?
Scheveningen Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 100 posts, guys. I'm so glad we're able to have well-reasoned discussions. If I asked, "Why remove it? Why not remove it?" then the other participants in this thread would still continue to talk in circles for another 30 pages on this subject. Right of committee was a mistake.
Alberyk Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I see little issue with the detective having lethals, mostly because stuns are equally, if not more, powerful in this game. It does give them far more responsability, and consequences, when they do use their lethal handgun. Also, we must take in consideration that the .38 already deals far less damage than any other lethal weapon that security is able to deploy. Besides, the revolver does work fine as a weapon of self-defense in this situation, and detectives abusing it, or doing anything dumb with it, are surely bound to be hit by the administration hammer. Voting for dismissal.
LordFowl Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Voting for dismissal. This thread has churned into some measure of irrelevancy. Ultimately however the detective should not be responding to threats that officers would respond to non-lethally, and they should thus not have non-lethals. Essentially the revolver is purely a self-defense tool, and has been said before using it is a matter of personal responsibility and consequence that can be dealt with both ICly and via the administratum. In terms of balance, the .38 revolver is piddlesticks. As Alberyk puts it this is a game of stuns, not a game of guns. The only potential issue is shrapnel, but even that deserves currently only a cursory investigation and perhaps a rework of shrapnel entirely to be more dependent on caliber, if it is not already. Balance thusly put aside, let's look at it thematically: The detective's theme is already fucked up. The neo-noir thing that allows the disconjunction of them having lethals while everyone else uses futuristic stun-prods is probably a little dated. But that is a shit-flinging contest for another suggestion thread. I would really only support removing the detective's .38 revolver in contingency to a comprehensive rework/update of detectives.
