  1. As Skull said, preventing observers from voting during a CT vote, but not starting it, would accomplish the objective of disallowing non-players from being able to judge the round. With that new system, observers would be able to start a vote, but not take part in it, essentially putting the CT option "on the table" for others to judge.
  2. The "Robustness is absolutely haram" thing would have been so fitting for this. Oh well.
  3. RNJesus must hate you very much. I have seen lots of people tank a few hits from a blob before getting a broken bone. Also, why the hell are you within melee range of a blob in the first place? If it is simply growing towards you, you should back off.If you fail to back away from the blob before you are forced to go near it, you really can't blame anybody but yourself for what follows next. The new blob is now a threat that requires a degree of coordination, spacial awareness, and planning. If you were fighting the blob from a position where you have nowhere to retreat to once you run out of energy/ammo, you really can't blame the blob. You were rightfully punished by the game mechanics for lacking those things.Simply mindlessly rushing at it will only result in your liver getting eaten by a giant spess amoeba.I also faced the wrath of newblob as a security borg, and have seen other borgs do too. The probability of losing the power cell after a single hit is nowhere near that high. A very good solution indeed. Seems good. "Reduce the chance of that happening when it is in process and limiting it to the "main" directions." Going to assume that means less chance to get sucked in when the RNG is deciding, and only suck in from the "Main" directions. What that would mean is that somebody could stand near a blob tile that is only 1 square away and attack the rest of the blob unhindered, provided the tile is diagonal from the player. That just sounds silly and arbitrary. Almost all the time, people end up being right next to a blob due to poor situational awareness, or spess wind doing what spess wind does. Why not keep the suck-in system as is and let people plan to avoid being right next to a blob, or face the consequences if they don't?
  4. >2-10 minutes to breach a single wall. Last time I checked, the biohazard warning is given to the crew around 1 minute after a blob or vine infestation spawns. If a blob has to take 2-10 minutes to breach a single wall, it hardly sounds like a threat, and it would mostly be contained to whatever room it happened to breach into first, until it breached another one in 2-10 minutes. At that rate, it would only breach into 2-3 adjacent rooms before being taken out by any competent engineering team. Honestly, this sounds a lot like the old blob: An annoyance that the crew has to deal with, sometimes a threat, other times not. The potential of a blob to take out a decent-sized chunk of the station while spreading decompression and murdering everyone nearby is what makes it a threat that has to be dealt with, such is life in spess. You already get warnings when a blob is nearby, in the form of shutters dropping on maintenance tunnels if a breach occurred, and welding tool noises when a blob is eating a wall. If the wall to your department has been breached, but the wall separating you and the blob from spess has not been, there is absolutely no reason for you to stay behind until it does. If the wall to spess has been breached, but the wall separating you from the breached tunnel has not been, you still hear welding tool noises from the blob eating the walls, indicating that you should GTFO. Whenever a blob is attacking a wall, reinforced or regular, the wall tile will start getting cracks in it, similar to how the walls of the science burn chamber crack when overheated. If you don't run when you see the wall which separates you from the vacuum of space begin to crack, while strange noises come from the other side, you can't really blame anybody but yourself for your horrible death.
  5. A round has just ended. It was an autotraitor round. I joined late as a ghost to observe it. I fly around, and see that the AI and borgs have been subverted, and three scientist traitors got a locker full of armory gear inside science maintenance. The subverted borgs and the three scientists were gearing up to take a large amount of crewmembers as hostages and tie them up in departures, with the help of a subverted borg. As a final step in preparations for the hostage-taking, the traitors were supposed to inject each other with what I assume was hyperzine. Charlie Roe, one of the traitors, had Ffwdwr Caellach inject him with hyperzine. And then it went horribly wrong... Instead of Hyperzine, Ffwdwr Caellach injected poor Roe (Disguised as Wally Diggery) with 15 units of potassium chlorophoride. Instantly,Roe was paralyzed. Regardless, the rest of the team went on with the hostage-taking, and took a good portion of the crew as hostages. A few minutes later, Roe died despite the team's best (Sub-par, I must say) efforts to save him. Drama in DSAY ensued. A minute or two later, the AI and borgs were unsubverted, and all of the traitors taking hostages were subdued. One of them apparently had a lethal gas grenade, but could not use it in time. The person with the grenade was also the one who injected the wrong chem. Wew. Pics for memes: Not necessarily in chronological order.
  6. Blobs are not overpowered. Just yesterday, one security officer was able to take down a Blob single-handedly with only a laser rifle, flashbangs, and an energy pistol (And a spess suit too,of course), recharging them as their energy is depleted. There was nobody else available to help, and the officer had to go through 2 other cores before reaching the main one.Blobs are also extremely susceptible to fire. A single flamethrower or a phoron inferno will be able to take down a significant amount of blob tiles. The only times there was a problem with the current blob was when somebody approached it in melee combat (Why the fuck....) and had his/her tool taken away and sucked into the blob. And if the station doesn't have an engineering team or a good security officer? Then that would warrant a shuttle call, or some improvisation from the crew. Git Gud. 1 and 2 sound good. 3 is good if the blob as-is is also kept. Maybe make the variant that doesn't take down walls and doors blue?
  7. Thumbs up for evil spirits coming back from the dead to haunt incompetent medical staff that couldn't treat people.
  8. Perhaps make it something that can only be grown from a mutant plant, or a normal plant the access to which is restricted (Such as all reserves being controlled by the RD)? Being able to buy it from the tator uplink would also be a good idea. The drug would probably never be coded if it is going to have mechanical effects other than messages, or be a purely RP drug.
  9. Thank you for your answers to my question. Skull's answer is the best one so far. Would you say that hacking doors would fall under something a roboticist would know(Seems like a "Small-scale application"? What about securing machinery to the ground, such as an emitter or field generator? What about building an individual power unit, such as a PSU or SMES? SMES seem like something relatively small-scale. Lastly, I have seen some roboticist characters able to setup the solar arrays without engineering staff. Would that be plausible?
  10. I have been wondering about this for quite a while. I think that roboticists would know a lot about engineering ICly, and I want to know just how much. This is what I think roboticists would know about engineering and why. If I am wrong, please correct me. Electicity, wiring, and hacking:Both jobs would be taught how to do it. Engineers would be taught to do so because it is part of their job, and roboticists would also know everything about it because they have to wire mechs and robots as part of their jobs. Construction: Engineers know everything about this because it is their job. Roboticists would be taught construction because they have to assemble mechs and robots. Being able to fix a hull breach by covering the entire area with lattices and floor tiles seems entirely plausible, since those two things don't seem far off from what one would do when assembling a mech (Connecting the parts together, adding plating,etc.). Building grilles is a matter of arranging metal rods into a net-like pattern and welding them together, something one would expect almost everyone to be able to do. Attaching windows to them? I would expect a roboticist to be able to do it due to having knowledge of construction in general as part of their job training. The iffy part is whether or not roboticists would be able to build walls, both reinforced and non-reinforced. I think roboticists would be able to at least make regular walls, since it is a matter of building a girder and adding plating to it. Roboticists would probably know how to connect steel beams together to make a girder, since they need to know how to connect metal components together as part of their jobs. As for adding plating to finish the wall, roboticists would definitely know how to do so, since they need to do it to assemble mechs. APCs and alarms would probably be within their ability to construct. Piping: Obviously, engineering would know how to do it. As for robotics, I am pretty sure that one of the messages when assembling any mech says "You connect the hydraulics system of the [MECH NAME HERE]". And then "You secure the hydraulics system of the [MECH]". Doing both of those things is a matter of connecting pipes properly. In fact, it would seem like a harder thing to do than ordinary engineering piping, and thus make it seem like a roboticist would know how to do ordinary engineering piping. Installing pumps and filters would be iffy, and I would like some clarification on whether a roboticist would know how to do that. Engine Setup: Right now, engine setup is a matter of connecting gas canisters to their appropriate canister ports and turning on the appropriate pumps. I think a roboticist, after taking some time to look around the engine and told what the engine waste loop is for, would be able to figure out how to set up the SM engine. As for the singularity and tesla engines, security the appropriate machinery to the ground would be within the ability of the Roboticist, but not assembling the particle accelerator. The reason I think securing the machinery to the ground would be within a roboticist's ability is that doing such things would be taught to roboticists because they need to be able to do so when assembling mechs. TCOMM Scripting: Roboticists would be taught some programming because they would also need to be able to construct a new AI core. It is reasonable to assume they would know some TCOMM Scripting. And from what I can gather, very few engineering personnel know how to do NTSL Scripting.
  11. I've played as a wiznerd less than a week ago on this server. We do not have the wiznerds that Bay does.
  12. Ideas for better names: Hypnozine- Servusium, from the Latin word "Servus", meaning "Slave". Makes sense, seeing as this drug is meant to eradicate free will. Deafenizine-Surdusium. Blinditoxin-Obscuratium. Silincian-Silentium. Hypozine-Adstatuamium, from Latin words "ad" and "Statuam". Roughly translates as "To a statue". Painimine-Perterritum. Yes,I know that means "terrified" or "intimidated", but whatever. Night Vision-Noxvidium Illuminum- Lumium.
  13. I totally agree that we need these.
  14. Some proteins can be tasted.
  15. Alright, some ideas for the tastes of various substances: Salt-Salt Potassium Chloride-Bitterness Potassium Chlorophoride-Bitterness Chloral Hydrate-Tasteless Animal Protein-Something brothy. Alternatively: Something Meaty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umami Milk-Something savory, thin, and watery. Iron, mercury,copper,Silicon,Gold,Silver,Uranium,Aluminum,Radium- Metallic Blood-Metallic Lithium,Potassium,Sodium- To be added Cyanide-Bitter Almonds Phoron-Sharp,biting, and irritating. Ammonia-Ammonia Hydrazine-Ammonia-like??? (Google says it smells like Ammonia) Wine: Sweet and sour Hydrochloric Acid: Sour??? (I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that acids taste sour) Polytrinic acid:Sour, with a tingling sensation. (This is what will be displayed to anyone drinking it). If not mixed with anything, will display "You can feel your tongue starting to burn up!". Sulfuric Acid: Will leave this up to the imagination of the coders. Lemon Juice:Sour, with a distinctive taste of lemons. Alcohol: Bitter and sour. The bar drinks would taste like each of their individual ingredients combined To be continued.
  16. more elaboration on this would be interesting See Nikov's post, I think it conveys the idea perfectly. Maybe have the other species use P and Z pairings ( Source: https://www.quantamagazine.org/20150710-genetic-alphabet/)and require more work to repair? Never Happened.
  17. My suggestion is aimed at significantly changing mechanics relating to anything involving cloning and organ surgery. All of the suggestions below would operate in conjunction with one another. Here goes: Brain Rejection Following Transplants: Organ Printers: Genetic Marker: Organ Genetic Identity Modifier: Immune-Suppressant Drugs: Change In Organ Repair Surgery: Instead of being able to repair organ damage by using trauma packs during surgery, change organ repair surgery to require using a compatible organ to repair organ damage in the patient. If an incompatible organ is used, rejection occurs. The new organ repair surgery would go as follows: The above surgery would also apply for brain damage. Peridaxon would still be effective due to difficulty in making it. Remove Alkysine (Inb4 I get flack for this): Hallucinations Following Brain Repair Surgery: Make Cloning Require Some Supervision: Make Cloning or Borging Impossible After a Certain Time: Add meme-tier deathchems That is all. As always, feedback would be nice.
  18. Umm,OP, vox are not able to be played as part of normal station crew, but you can choose to play them if you happen to roll heister.
  19. Maybe this would be better off in Guides & Tutorials, but whatever. This is a gimmick I managed to pull off two times before (Though, I only tried it two times total) with what I consider to be remarkable success, so I have finally decided to share it with you guys. The idea behind the gimmick is that the mercenaries are supposed to be a legitimate Asset Protection Team sent by Nanotrasen to weed out any "Subversive Elements" among their employees, with full backing of Central Command (This can be played with, however), in preparation for a Syndicate attack on the station or to foil potential operations. You and your buddies then round up people mentioned on the "Status Summary" printed at round start, or anyone with incriminating exploitable information, and then publicly execute them. This will make the crew hate you in a heartbeat. Once security inevitably fucks your team up, a real death team -consisting of the ghosts of the crew you executed- arrives on the station and fucks everything up. From that point on, things take their course. Feel free to add your own spin to the gimmick as you feel. Let's get started: Firstly, explain the gimmick to the admins, if any are online at the time. Ask the staff to spawn in an Asset Protection ID for your crew to scan their cards on (DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR CARD'S NAME AND RANK), and possibly the appropriate radio headset key. Look over the crew's exploitable information and compile a list of people to go after right away. Then, gear up and get ready to head for the station. Once you have done that, beg the staff to send a fax- or make a public station announcement- saying the following: ASSET PROTECTION TEAM ARRIVAL We have intercepted communications from a hostile terrorist organization discussing an attack headed for the Exodus, which will be aided by sleeper cells planted among the crew ((Fancy name for traitors, though there will be none)). We shall be sending an Asset Protection Team to your station in preparations for the strike, and to weed out any such sleeper agents among the crew. Permission has been granted by the government of Biesel for such operations. Crew are expected to fully comply with this operation.During this period of time, the APT is considered above corporate regulations and above the law. -End Report- The exact wording can be toyed with to create more drama. Leave the wording vague so that the crew is shocked when they find out about you executing their colleagues. Once the fax reaches the station, or the announcement is made, take the mercenary shuttle and dock with the station. Then, waltz aboard the station, speak to whatever command staff are available, and ask to see the Status Summary printed at the start of the shift (That list that says that certain people might be working with "Subversive Elements"). Once you have read the list, go after whoever is mentioned there (Obviously excluding roles like HoS and Captain), plus people with incriminating exploitable information. Simply find out where each person is located, and escort them to the bar. Have one of your mercenary buddies man the command and communications console at the bridge, and prepare an announcement for the entire crew detailing that certain crewmembers will be executed for certain reasons (Exploitable info, NT knows they are working with subversive elements, etc.), and then kill the crew you rounded up. The main purpose of the execution is to create conflict and get ghosts for part two of the gimmick. Now,expect security to come rushing at you with guns, feel free to kill them. Once your team gets wiped out, or lots of crew die in the ensuing bloodshed, ask the admins to spawn in another wave of mercenaries consisting of the ghosts of the people you just killed (Maybe an ERT as well in order to have a battle going, or maybe even an announcement saying that CC will leave the crew to fend for themselves since they attacked the original APT). The purpose of the second wave is to fuck shit up, and they will not be posing as NT representatives or anything like that. The second wave could be Pro-Synth extremists, Syndicate Strike Team, etc. From here on out, things will take their course. The first time I tried the gimmick, the second mercenary wave wiped out an ERT and unlawed the station AI. Let me know what you guys think.
  20. What a time to be alive. What happens now? Only time will tell.
  21. Who cares if Shillary got rekt in the election while SJWs bitch on social media (REEEEEEEEE), and Trump will be our new President come January 20th (He isn't exactly our hero, but I consider him to be better than Clinton)- and It's only the tenth of November, while Christmas ( Or New Year's if you only celebrate New Year's like me) doesn't come until late December- it's the holiday season!
  22. Limus Purpura, purple slime. 1. One of the many slimes brought aboard the NSS Exodus for study. This slime, like all slimes, originates in bluespace. Due to anomalous properties of bluespace particles "Mimicking" particles when coming into contact with realspace((Lore incompatibility,I know)), a creature called a slime is formed due to bluespace particles "mimicking" human (or any other species')cells, albeit on a larger scale. When one such slime happens to be caught on a ship leaving bluespace after completing a jump, slimes end up in realspace. The slimes' cores are analogous to the nuclei of cells, containing DNA- or at least, as close to DNA as it could possibly get-, but also seem to fill the function of a primitive brain for reasons yet unknown. Due to the slimes' origins in bluespace, their cores will undergo strange mutations when subjected to certain chemicals. In the case of purple slimes, they will produce a chemical called "Slime steroid", which will cause other slimes to generate more extract due to partially undergoing division. "Slime steroid" is the slime analogue of ATP. Injecting the slime core with sugar will produce a highly toxic substance known as "Slime jelly". Also due to bluespace anomalies "mimicking" organic cells, lysosomes are also "copied", causing anything organic coming into contact with a slime to gradually disintegrate, which slimes use for food to assist reproduction. Slimes reproduce through cell division, but have a chance of producing different offspring due to mutations in the DNA. 2. The purple slime, like all slimes, is sensitive to water, and will disintegrate should it come into contact with water. For this reason,a chemsprayer, spray bottle, or fire extinguisher loaded with water is a very effective weapon against slimes. However, periodically evading the slimes is also a good thing to do, lest a slime attach itself to its attacker and consume him/her. 3. A slime is best kept alive in captivity with constant feeding in the form of a monkey or similar primate. When feeding a slime, be sure to let it see you, stay near it until it recognizes you as a friend so that it will not go hostile. This should be done when a slime splits so that its offspring also recognize you as a friend. When the time has come to harvest a slime, walk into the slime pen- make sure you wear a hazard suit and that the slimes are friendly-, drag a slime out, then spray it with water to kill it. Then, use a circular saw to cut open the core and Voila! Your slime extract is ready for use!
  23. Is the thread for suggestions only for lore writers/coders or can anyone post?
