  1. Right, then I'll wait for Jackboot's input before I make the alterations.
  2. I think it is okay to judge an application on previous merits of the applicants. I do so and I don't mind other basing their critic on this, I have to admit I've actually counted on it, thus the joke. I am not going to fix the application because you are just being a killjoy at this point. I may fix it if enough people are bothered by it. As for the last, there was no question in the app as to what my character brings to aurora and unathi community. If you believe that those questions are relevant, please contact Jackboot to improve the application format. I will attempt to improve the story as my original intention was not for it to be bland, but to present someone who was a regular person struggling through the world. Thank you for your feedback.
  3. I had to summarize someone's life in two paragraphs. She is also hardworking, poorly educated and trusting, as demonstrated by her choices. As for the blandness, that is intentional. I am firm believer that a character's quality is measured by their personality, one which I intend to try and demonstrate. This is what should make everyone stand out, merits, not past. I could've went with security and produced a story of why my unathi is a mech pilot, even if they are female, but I ultimately chose not to. I chose a character whose story is rarely walked through, and may contain interesting surprises. As for the Contact War, I believe there is no individual Unathi that has not at least somewhat been effected by the event, basically a WW2 on nuclear steroids. An event of such magnitude and horror would very likely be the one thing that defines all unathi. As for the farming, yes. I didn't want to go into detail but the herding is the obvious primary food source. Cinnamon, cocoa, tobacco and spice peppers are not really digestible by humans. They give no nutritional value. Yet they are still important branches of agriculture. And let's no forget that large scale herding would be impossible without farming, considering the vast majority of livestock subsist on feed, not pastures. Sometime since developing a brain unathi would've figured out they can plant crops to feed their animals, even if they are just making better pastures. I think it was a good joke, but maybe I'm just biased. As for the non-serious attitude to my app I may have demonstrated with my reply that I am serious about the application. Thank you for your feedback.
  4. BYOND Key: Bokaza Character Names: Soma Kartesian, Elena Raschnikova, countless other of little note Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Of course not, I hate Jackboot's writing. Well... yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I had a stroll of inspiration that made me make this app. I liked an idea for an unathi character. However, as these things go, I do not know if I'll actually like it if once I get it considering I've never played as one. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Strange species with strange smell and strange eyes, living in strange buildings and walking strange paths, on strange planets and strange ships with no clear intent or order. They do not understand me and I do not understand then, yet, I am forced from my home into theirs. I live, I work and I die for NT, for it is the only thing that really binds us. For it is what keeps me here, my job. As for the simpler stuff, the obvious are speech impediment, conservative leaning, tribalism, lower stamina, heat sensitivity and more non-verbal expression. Character Name: Yamaza Vasaki Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Yamaza hatched as a one of three to clan Vasaki, a tiny insignificant clan of herders and farmers. At the age of three, she could barely understand the world when the Contact War broke out. Seeing the men in her family increasingly called to war under the Coalition, she would be pressed to work as soon as she was able, with the women in her clan doing their best to educate her within the limits of what was considered appropriate. Being hard-pressed to feed themselves with the lack of workforce, raiders and military confiscations, the nuclear apocalypse would see that reality made even even worse. The fallout would take many of her family members and all of livestock, then ravage the land into a near-wasteland. At age of eight, she would be betrothed and sent to a nearby clan that was in a better situation than the rest, while the remaining family would stay in their land, too stubborn to leave. The ever escalating violence would see the last of her clan almost completely wiped out, and sending her adopted clan fleeing for the last bastions of order on the planet. She would find herself living in destitute slums of S'th. By the end of the war, she and her betrothed, Saz'kin would be married. With their lands now completely worthless, they would be no better than guwan. Saz'kin, since he was few years older and male, would already have started working as laborer, earning a miserable pay that allowed them to survive through the following years. While he was kind to her initially, the chain of tragedies would turn his heart cruel. Despite that, she would always rely on him and try and remember her place in the order. With several dead clutches, she would eventually have a clutch of her own at an age of twenty. Having experienced joy for what seemed like the first time in her life, she vowed to do her best to keep them safe. Saz'kin, having turned to taking various mind-altering substances, would eventually turn to beating her and threatening to hurt their children. With no family to turn to for help, she would one day take her kids and leave home. Homeless and worst of all, without skills, she would sign up with NanoTrasen and leave for Biesel in search of a better life. She would work the odd jobs at NanoTrasen facilities, as well as receive good amount of money from 'mandatory' flue shots. Having little experience with this alien culture, she would eventually find herself duped into crippling loan. Seeing an immediate need for a change of pace, she would take an accelerated program for Hydroponics and end up on Exodus. What do you like about this character? She has a driving force that pushes her to act, and she does not let what she is stop her from that goal. A stubbornness seemingly inherent in all the station unathi. This is what I have observed from more experienced unathi players on aurora and I chose to imitate. Imitation is the highest form of flattery after all. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10. Admittedly, non-verbal communication is my weaker side, which will make this role challenging. I also tend to compromise my RP quality in tense situations and have a habit of getting overly attached to characters. Notes: No, this app isn't satirical. This app has been changed to be less satirical.
  5. Looks good. I've seen Dawkins, seemed responsible and hasn't been in the brig to my memory. Which is a point by itself considering cargo is a hotspot of crime.
  6. So, you made up a bounty on my head and decided to get it? I'm not sure that's how bounties work generally, but I could be mistaken. Can an admin please weigh in on this?
  7. Right. I play a HoS and Officer regularly and have spent several shifts RP-ing with Munks. From his behavior I have noticed he has a good reaction speed, knowledge of mechanics and an excellent understanding of server responsibilities. His character does his best to be useful and knows his limits, which is something that marks a good roleplayer, at least in my opinion. But since I'm not exactly unbiased, I'm just going to provide an counterargument as well. I'll point out that I do not know the range of characters Munks can handle, since I've only ever seen him play one. This may be a minor issue concerning he may be switching to a wildly different play style from one of a human FT. I will still give my support to this app, for what it's worth.
  8. I assume that was March, not February, so today. You might want to fix that because it's triggering an OCD episode. So, yes. I was an Officer that round, Soma Karthesian. I had a pretty long EVA duel with him and pretty much got destroyed as expected because these fucking things are nearly impossible to hit. I ended up nailed to the wall by the spike thrower, and proceeded to use my last strength to try and fight him off with the mighty baton. Of course, I lost and died. This is not where it ended, however. He proceeded to lob my head off and then, albeit I did not see it myself, as reported by others, proceeded to throw the head into space. I have no further statements on this matter other than that the rules were not sufficiently clear to me so I initiated an adminPM receiving an unsatisfactory response and that Coolbc may have gotten a bit too carried away. To your other point, I do not see relevance in this. Coolbc has been on this server for a while and seems to actually be improving. I have had several shifts in Sec with him and he has definitely cut back on previously problematic behaviors.
  9. I have played with seb a couple of shifts in security and I can attest he's a good roleplayer and an officer.
  10. I'm actually all for purging the AI personalities or at the very least limiting them. Why? Because I'm a lore-centric type of guy. The feel of the universe should come before player freedom. May sound overly selfish or egocentric, but I think it's not 'Spess Mahreeens!' or 'May the Forth be wit yu!' that makes Warhammer 40k and Star Wars amazing, it's the doom and gloom, as well as the philosophical nuances. If we all make RP sacrifice or two and a conscious effort to promote such a universe, we can make it much more immersive. That is the direction the lore has to go? Being more immersive, as opposed to a bunch of handwaves and a tool to curb 'problematic' behavior?
  11. He can become the trash within the trash. Trashception.
  12. Doesn't look like it. Honestly, I would love to host it but no one wants to play Masterwork and .40+ gives me cancer due to its speed.
  13. My general area of interest, as you likely know, is lore and world-building. I suggest you use stations as interact-able hubs. After that, it shouldn't be hard to use a separate menu where you can interact with characters and utilities in an RPG manner. Maybe even make the stations space elevators or shuttle hubs where you can possibly visit the planets and explore them further. Perhaps you can make your ship have shuttle of its own for atmospheric transition, in case the ship can't fly, then have planet-based hubs where you can interact with the world. As for world-building, that's pretty hard if you intend to make all of the planets RNG. Carefully crafted worlds with societies and geography to go with them goes a long way to make your world interesting. If there is anything to learn from shitshows like No Man's Sky is that making your world ocean-wide, but pond deep is a bad way to go about building a universe.

    I'm sorry.

Elena started as a dare. I decided to make a typical Femme Fatale russian woman. It was memey at the start, but I saw people responded well and changed her personality, made the backstory, MO all on the fly. There was never a solid character concept, I just built her as I played, to fit what a captain should be, what others want from a captain and what I want to play. The results were pretty nice. People actually liked her. The best part is, she scored pretty high on the marry sue charts, but people never minded, because it fit. Exceptional positions require exceptional people. But here is the thing. Before I started playing as her, I had a self-insert character who I played all the time. I used it to solve my own emotional problems and other things that should, imo, have no place in a light-hearted RP game. The amount of character development I put into him did not matter. Why? Because it was stopping me from enjoying the game.
  15. What a pisshole of a planet. Which is why I like it. Our lore does not stress the value of garden worlds and the complexity of terraforming enough. There should be more places like this. With that in mind, I would suggest you remove any attempts to terraform it from the info. It would be like trying to store hay in a burning barn: Shit is far too unstable to support life at any level above simple microbial. Next, the insistance on obsidian. It's a pretty useless stone. It's not even a gemstone. But I guess massive deposits of it can allow it to be exported as a construction stone. However, native iron is pretty rare and is more valuable for alloys other than regular steel. This can be a good source of income since steel is cheap as dirt at this point. Lastly, you should add gravity and temperature ranges of the planet. And where the cities are located and why not somewhere else. Otherwise, love the detail on the day to day life. That should the primary focus of any planet page, me thinks.
  16. Alas, I have been exposed as a hypocrite. Shame on me.
  17. From a mechanical point of view, once this happens, and it will happen often due to sec misfires, antag EMP or simply science fuckups, there is no way to fix it other than remove and implant a new one. A complex procedure to fix something that can be ohh very so easily an unavoidable accident. From a lore and logic point of view, it makes sense that implants are EMP-resistant, especially ones mentioned above. It would be too much of a health hazard if they were so badly designed enough to fail under such trivial circumstance. They shouldn't melt and fail like that. It could be fun, though, but only if it happens very rarely. Also, make synthetic hearts EMP immune. It's an idiotic oversight. Modern experimental synthetic heart designs aren't even electronic in nature, just mechanic.
  18. Mice are people too.
  19. I'll add you to the discord chat. You may feel daunted at first, but the RP is pretty open, albeit a bit slow. You put your character app there.
  20. I'm always looking for more people. The system allows new arrivals to join in and start quests at any time. Don't be shy, people.
  21. I generally would like an uncut one, but considering it's 3,5 hours maybe it's for the best.
  22. Will the recording be uploaded to youtube or other hosting website?
  23. Great, I'll give out invites today.
  24. Fair enough. As things stand, the current players are all from USA/Canada and I will probably be setting the schedual to accomodate them. Knowing you're from Germany, would you be able to play at odd weekend times. Idk, late afternoon/midnight.
  25. This might seem blunt, but you didn't seem very responsive last time around. Will you be able to join and participate in these to a full extent? Also, I guess I'll have to retconn your character being horribly murdered by city guards in the Ratway.
