1. If i can get this in before you withdraw it, I was the HoP Leonce, and I'm gonna give some context as to what happened exactly.
2. I know, i was just busting your balls NoahKirchner I still think this suggestion would help antags a LOT, and save a lot of the less creative people some trouble when struggling in aooc to find a good gimmick, when they have a list of solid gimmicks right there in their antag text. And i really love writing antag gimmicks, so I'd greatly enjoy contributing to this page.
3. Some example gimmicks (for gamemodes that arent in the game yet, but you get the general gist of it):
4. Literally just suggested this in my other suggestion, ban this man. On a serious note, I'm all for this. I think a big, obvious link should also be available in the roundstart text for antags. It solves the problems of antags having difficulty coming up with gimmicks, while still allowing creative players to use their own, fresh gimmicks. I'd work on this if it existed.
5. Alright, I edited the post slightly to account for some of the very valid concerns brought about with lowpop. This should fix all concerns except those for EXTREME lowpop, which aren't addressed by our current system anyways (and besides, this wouldn't replace the other two secrets or all the other gamemodes; if the 3 people on at that time vote for true secret and get ninja, that's their fault). I'm also considering switching ling and tator, but I'm resolute that vamp is a low impact antag and should remain one point. I have made merc 2 points though, on the argument that heist and merc have about the same impact. @Scheveningen, that post was just to highlight some of the potential combos and gimmicks that could be done WITH this suggestion, not as a part of it. However, I do think creating a "Inspiration Gimmicks" page on the wiki, then linking that in the roundstart text of every antag, would be very helpful for people who have problems with gimmicks. I'd gladly help with such a page if it existed. And what Mappel6 suggested pretty much summarizes the problems against the suggestion; the original system is so simple it can be easily edited and modified with code that already exists to fit any and all situations that come up. I'm glad at all the positive feedback this is getting. I honestly think a system like this would take the server leaps and bounds in the right direction, by giving players more freedom through randomness as well as having a fair, balanced system that doesn't make ridiculous games unless it's sure there are enough people online to combat all the antags.
6. Alright, I'm just gonna highlight some potential gamemodes and gimmicks for each of them that aren't possible in our current pool, partially because it's fun to come up with gimmicks, and partially to show the potential of a system similar to this one: Monster hunters: Merc+ling+vampire: The mercenaries are monster hunters, who have tracked the lings and the vampire to the station. Their goal is to exterminate this threat, and they aren't gonna take any chances: collateral damage is acceptable. Will the station work with the mercs and destroy the lings+vampires, despite the brutality and overkill methods of the mercs? Or will the desperate security force enlist one of the more "peaceful" lings/vampires to combat the mercenary threat? Synthetic Sympathizers: Rev+malf: The revolutionaries are an anti-synthetic organization, and want to destroy/ban all artificial life on the station. Will the AI be able to trick command staff long enough that it can eliminate the revolutionaries? Or will command staff discover the AI's secret, side with the revs, and destroy it once and for all? How far will each side go to achieve their goal? Can a compromise be reached? Thinning the Veil: vamp+wiz+cult: The barrier between the veil and the real world is weak here, attracting all types of magical entities seeking to harness it's power for it's own goals. However, all these magical creatures despise each other, and would see themselves the only rulers of this source of power. Who will the crew ally with? Will the vampires come out of the shadows, and proclaim themselves the grim lords of this station? Will the wizard recruit an undead army, or perhaps an apprentice, to grow his power? Will the cult gather a following of crewmembers scared by the other powers at work? Quantity vs Quality: Ninja+heist: The raiders have looted a spider clan weapon, and incurred the wrath of their finest warriors. In their cunning, the Ninja decided to wait until the raiders were on another heist, so that he could strike at their weakest... However, the raiders are not fools themselves, and will frame the ninja as the villain. Who will the station believe? Will the ninja be overwhelmed, or will superior skill and technology prevail? These are just a few examples of what COULD be possible with a suggestion like this. The implementation of this simple algorithm would multiply the potential gimmicks tenfold, and absolute destroy any notion of repetitiveness or staleness that existed with the current modes.
7. Simply making rev 3 points instead of two would fix that problem NoahKirchner. In fact, I prolly should do that.
8. I mean, it's not THAT complicated NoahKirchner, a basic algorithm could simply spawn the right antags depending on what the roll is. There are probably some complications, but the base system is simple enough it wouldn't be that difficult to fix those problems.
9. Alright, as much as I love mixed secret, I still feel like I'm missing something from my secret pool. Sure, there's that extended thrown in there to have the possibility for a quiet round, but it usually ends up with everyone disappointed there were no antags (much like on regular secret.) I want something TRULY random, but not in a ridiculous way that ends up with cult+merc+malf or something insane like that. The current mixed secret gamemodes are pretty good, but I feel like there are situations and gimmicks that are missing (such as vampire+cult for ultimate blood magic, or merc+ninja, etc). Vampire especially, being left out despite being one of my favorite antags. So, I introduce: True Secret. Each antag type would be "rated" on how strongly they typically influence the round, and an algorithm would randomly pick out antag types based on these values (which are WIP and can be very easily changed depending on dev/majority decision. Values in question, 1 being lightest impact and 3 being highest impact: Wizard: 1 Ninja:1 Vampire: 1 Traitor: 1 Changeling: 2 Heist: 2 Merc: 2 Malf: 2 Rev: 3 Cult: 3 Each round, the game would randomly pick a number between 0-5 (0 being extended, 5 being highest intensity). After this number is picked, the game would randomly select a combination of gamemodes that added up to said value. On lowpop, the algorithm would only pick a number between 0 and 3, instead of 0 and 5. Once the total server pop (NOT the readied up pop) reaches 35-40, intensity 4 gets unlocked, and once it reaches 45-50, intensity 5 can get unlocked. I think this mode would allow a LOT more cool gimmicks to be created, as well as generally create a lot more unexpectedness in the game-mode rotation, while still steering clear of ridiculous, unfun game modes like merc+cult+malf or something like that. Some ridiculous modes are still possible, like wizard+ninja+ling+vamp, but these antags are all somewhat low intensity (usually), and would still be less chaotic than paranoia. These values are very open to tweaking, as well as the algorithm the game will use to pick this "true secret" gamemode, but the general gist of this suggestion is what matters; more randomness, more gimmicks.
10. Superiorform That's a good compromise, I like it.
11. Still don't have it...
12. If we can still pick our regular characters for this, I agree with it. Every character I have traitor/antag enabled has a reason why for that antag type (except types like vampire and ling, or types where you make a new char, like merc or ninja). I think this should also be a thing for vampire, which suffers from the same problems aforementioned.
13. I like this, but something needs to be done about force-gloves for this to be reasonable. Force glove grabs are already pretty insane, imagine if you could instakill everyone with forceglove -> red grab -> pull out gun and instakill. You could slaughter dozens of people in seconds like this.
14. My main problem is how a simple misclick to face someone results in a shot. I ALWAYS turn off all of the conditions (except maybe radio) when I aim at someone to make sure I don't shoot them when I don't want to. Sadly, this doesn't always happen vice versa, and has lead to MANY of my deaths from simply turning around/accidentally clicking on the screen, since the first shot usually sends everyone into a panic and results in violence and death. I feel like the initial conditions are a little too strict, resulting in people being shot when the shooter had no intention of shooting, nor the hostage any intention of resisting. It makes the mechanic a lot harder to use effectively, honestly. I'd even rather shooting "reflexively" wasn't a thing anymore, but maybe LRP-ers wouldn't respect it anymore.
15. Skull132 I pretty much always emphasize people to "Update their employment records at centcomm" every time I see a blank one. I would love to have interviews with people where I would go over their employment history and update it for them though. Shame that doesn't carry over.
16. Ive considered doing that a lot of times, but I was unsure if the records actually stayed updated Next time I have some time as HoP, I'll call in people to "update their records."
17. I think Noah makes a very good point about employment records, and how they affect character backgrounds. Simply needing the character to have a place of birth, education record, etc would VASTLY improve on some of the "backstory" elements, which as a recent HoP, I see are very sparse (most people either have no employment record or a very brief one). Since it's so open, some people go crazy and make this awesome resume, but it's very intimidating for someone who doesn't want to do that. Simply having some guiding elements to it would encourage people to learn more about the background of their character, rather than just having them be an entity that magically appeared on the station to work.
18. Can't find the head of staff forum anywhere.
19. As much as I think mixed secret and mixed gamemodes in general can lead to really exciting, interesting, and unique rounds, I somewhat agree with Delta here. Having almost EVERY round devolving into a warzone gets tiresome, especially if you're a non-combat head and are constantly being targeted (though I haven't had many rounds as a head yet, though every one has resulted in me getting kidnapped, bombed, shot, attacked, etc). The thing is, while mixed secret can lead to great RP opportunities, especially if the antags have gimmicks where they work against each other (to give the crew a fairer chance), they also often don't have great gimmicks, especially modes like paranoia and siege. Personally, I think a third option "super secret", where both regular and mixed modes are present, would be nice. So you can have medium intensity rounds with the option of high intensity.
20. BYOND Key: driecg36 Character name: Francois Leonce Item name: Old Earth Luxury Cognac Why is your character carrying said item to work? As an IAA, Leonce knows that appearances matter in the corporate, bureaucratic world. A lot. Therefore, he always dresses sharply, and has something in stow to impress the upper echelons, or anyone who he needs to win over. A prestigious, rare, and classy liquor is exactly something he would use to butter up an important person. He keeps it stowed in a compartment in his desk. He also sometimes keeps a bottle of lower grade cognac, which he offers to lower ranked crewmembers. Item function(s): Simply a bottle of liquor with a fancy sprite and name. Nothing extraordinary. Item description: "An unusually shaped crystal bottle, covered in elaborate etchings displaying the symbol of the house that produced it. Inside is a smooth, amber liquor, which smells of the barrel it was aged in. The region and producer are on the label." Item appearance: This would make a nice guideline for the sprite. Of course, the branding would have to be removed/changed for copyright reasons. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? First of all, this would be in exploitable info, so a very sneaky tator may poison this drink for a kill on Leonce, who relaxes with this when he has the chance. Even better if he's expecting company, one could secure two high profile assassinations. This would also paint Leonce as a very sophisticated, classy man to whomever he offered this drink, and would generally help a lot in painting an image of him in the minds of other players. It would also serve as a conversation piece, creating greater options for dialogue.) Additional comments: I only just got my head whitelist approved, and since I am currently on vacation (in the cognac region, amusingly enough), where I have had very little time, so I have not yet actually designed Francois. I will be done travelling in a few days time, however.
21. Too busy to go and advertise it in game this week, but I'd like to bump just because it has been two weeks.
22. Reporting Personnel: Andrei Yeltsin Rank of Reporting Personnel: Anomalist Game ID: bPl-aqjz Personnel Involved: - Ka'Akaix'Kzaya Kte'kzil (Offender) - Andrei Yeltsin (Victim) - Ingrid Brohe (Witness) - Echo (Witness) - Ida Tian Wei (Witness) Time of Incident: Real time: 11:30 Location of Incident: Medbay, Exodus Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard [X]Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault [X]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: So, I was working in my lab on the research outpost, when one particularly nasty Anomaly created some sort of hostile creature, which ran at me and attacked me. Not having any way to defend myself, I was severely wounded by it until Ingrid came and rescued me. After taking me to medbay, I was left in the lobby to wait for a while (in horrible pain), and then a doctor came in and scanned me. I do not remember the doctor's name, but he scanned me, and handed me off to a Vaurca, Ka'Akaix'Kzaya Kte'kzi. The vaurca then took me to surgery, where he anesthetized me and "performed an operation." When I woke up, I was still in horrible pain, so I asked the doctor if I was treated. He told me yes, and then injected me with something, presumably a pain killer. He then told me to "go eat something", told me "I was treated as best as this room could treat me" showed me the door. I made a few steps out, until the painkillers wore off, when I realized my ribs were still jostling around my chest and that I was not actually treated whatsoever. I collapsed on the ground, and then was taken in and out of cryo for the rest of the shift. The medbay was overwhelmed with a viral infection, and they just assumed I was also infected, so they left me lying there in pain with my heart slowly failing. I ran into "Dr," Kte'kzi again, who simply told me "You can file a lawsuit later." I informed Echo of the situation, who was initially dismissive until he realized my actual situation. Then, Dr. Wei kept me alive and escorted me to the shuttle. I understand that medbay was overwhelemd, but Kte'kzi literally left me to die INTENTIONALLY. He knew my chest was still broken, and yet he actively told me to leave medbay, putting my life in danger through carelessness and malpractice. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: I tried to PDA the IAA, but I was unable to move to reach my PDA. My distress over radio was ignored Actions taken: Attempted to call for help, informed others of the situation. Additional notes:
23. I feel like xenoarch's anomalists also need something to defend themselves from carp now that carp can invade their mining site, or at least a more armored voidsuit so that they don't get slaughtered by them. I get that xenoarchs aren't supposed to be indiana jones, but it makes your work almost completely impossible for the rest of the round if the station opts for bubble shields instead of a sec sweep. Maybe a simple plasmacutter? Just anything that prevents a fairly common random event from crippling you.
24. Thanks, I try my best! Thanks, I try to be as fair as I can, though sometimes people make it hard. I don't remember any egregious OOC arguments we've had however? Thanks, and good luck on your Head app too! I've only been an interrim once (and very shortly, it was a chaotic round), simply due to bad circumstances. Thanks for the +1!
25. Sean is a very likeable character, and his aptitude with paper work and general fair mindedness make him very well suited for Head. Zel also RP's very well and creates a lot of interaction through even little things. I'm sure he would make a fantastic head of staff. +1
