  1. This had better have been a bad April Fools suggestion, because jesus fucking christ. Another suggestion to nerf the stations capacity to actually defend itself from mass murdering antag types. Combat borgs are only ever called for in situations that are confirmed Code Red and currently too much for Security to handle. They're not 'mass validhunt tools', they're not 'instant I win' buttons. They're a counter-deployment to the mass murder already being caused by certain antags, and yes they are easily counterable themselves unless you try to fight them head on with the wrong tools. If you don't want to risk combat borgs, don't go loud. If you do go loud, prepare for an adequate response, or at least the attempt. Use the tools provided to antags to neutralise the stations defense mechanisms, for this exact purpose if you fear it so much. Protip: EMP weapons will generally disable any IPCs, borgs, security with laser weapons and even ERT, so you have absolutely no excuse not to prioritise getting one, and can only blame yourself if you willingly overlook the ease with which all these threats can be handled with EMP weaponry. Arrow's hit the bullseye. Borgs are an intentional force multiplier intended to give the station rapid, heavy self-defense capabilities, either because a situation is beyond Securitys ability to handle, or because they will need the reinforcement without requiring a full ERT. Combat borgs are just as vulnerable to the typical borg weaknesses, though; they can be EMP'd with various weapons, they can be flash dismantled, they can be remotely locked in place and remotely destroyed, must follow orders from the AI, Command and other crew, and are subject to lawsets that can be manipulated. I sincerely hope this was just an April Fools prank, bro.
  2. But they promote, uh. Healthy blood flow.
  3. While I do not have specific evidence of this behaviour, as it has not been targetted at me and you never expect admins of all people to end up in a complaint regarding poor behaviour, I can say that I have seen plenty of comments from Nursie regarding Liliums character/s that were less than constructive criticism. Nursie has basically admitted this in her response, then attempted to hide behind the shield of banter. This is extremely poor form, especially when the behaviour is seemingly targetted at a player who is already dealing with documented harassment from other players, something that a lot of the admin staff are already aware of and should probably have notes on, regarding the offenders; the fact that an admin joins in, not only supporting these abusive personal attacks but emboldening those who do them, is a clear case of lending the power and status of the administration team to the basic abuse of a player. Maybe that much wasn't intentional in your attempt to be a bantersaurus rex, but such is the outcome, and while I think the actual act of trying to pull an injunction that specifically targets one player in your department without mentioning them by name, because your character cannot stand the NT approved uniform, may not be that egregious of an offense, it can still seem somewhat pointlessly personally targetted when you're on the recieving end and was likely just the straw that broke the camels back. It's okay to not like people OOCly. It's okay to not like someones characters. But maybe wind your neck in and quit dumping your toxic opinions on someone in full view of the server, as an admin. You not only make yourself look bad, but the whole staff team you work with.
  4. +1. Have played with BUD and Annie and they're good, fun or in-depth characters. I reckon CrystalClear understands synthetics and could play a good IPC.
  5. The three hour round meta instated mostly to give certain antag types, namely cult, time to get their research done and established and have time to start doing things. And then cult got a massive acceleration in the form of all words known from the start, for free. I think every other antag type, except perhaps Malf, can adequately 'ramp up' their gimmick over one to two hours.
  6. I did not ahelp because, technically, nothing I saw done was against the rules. We had RP through the round, mostly me shouting at them to move the ship, and a couple minutes of RP on the ship before they turned on me. They held me up for a minute before firing. The problem is, that's all they did. They manned the ship, interacted with no-one else, and betrayed a merc in the middle of an antag RP that had been planned for over a week. I want to know why. Maybe it was legit. It seemed like they shitting on the roleplay for no good reason. Exia could have walked away from the confrontation. Exia could have gone to the station for loot/other captives. Why was betraying a merc in the middle of antagging the shit out of someones backstory for kicks, the way to go? This was co-ordinated, backstory based roleplay. I got the characters name right, I got the backstory details right, I got a good flavor text picture, I survived the meta-vox ambush and stealthily solo-extracted my target and was in the middle of a very personal antag exposition. Ricky's contribution was 'I don't like it so I'm gonna kill you'. I don't care that I died. When I antag, I expect to die; I just try and make it a fun ride for people. I don't expect anything done was technically against the rules, except for perhaps being a dick by needlessly shutting down roleplay. You know, that thing we're all here for.
  7. Yes, but I actually want to see his responses. The IC justification from what was said between the characters, was weak to non-existant. I want him to justify OOCly shutting down the only surviving merc interaction with the crew.
  8. BYOND Key: K0NFL1QT Game ID: bTv-dhh9 Player Byond Key: rickymadenson Staff involved: None Reason for complaint: Pointlessly ruining a Merc gimmick in progress, for no good reason. Long version. Lilium Argentium has an approved contract for her abduction. I, as a Merc, decided to pursue it. We geared up and deployed, and this is a side issue but the moment we set foot off our shuttle the Vox Heister was pulling drivebys on us with an Xray laser gun on a space bike. So rather than deal with that bullshit, I went ahead into the station alone, secured my target, extracted them successfully with much delay. I had the shuttle dock at arrivals just so I could get back on the shuttle and get the target secured and safe. I got my infection tended to and then went to torment the kidnapped crew with our pre-planned gimmick, but apparantly Rickeymadenson, as Divine Exia, decided they were just going to shoot me because they didn't like what I was doing. I wasn't forcing them to be a part of my plan, wasn't asking them to help too much, and was ready to help them if they ever wanted to do more than sit on the shuttle contributing precisely nothing to the round. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, because I doubt it classed as grief, but I still feel it was very dickish. Approximate Date/Time: 22/03/2018
  9. +1 for O-O-S. I'm reassured he/the player understands the engine, and adapts to better ways when informed. O-O-S has been stepping up to the CE spot as an Interim for a while, with no memorable issues arising.
  10. How do you envision RMP being earned? Last time I saw this suggestion, it was 'fill out a report on a subject, fax it and get a random amount of points in that field'. If it's changing to 'make X and get points for X', for example, printing guns accrues RMP just for gun research, or contributes to a general pool that can be allocated however?
  11. While you get the IPCs ability to learn rapidly, you haven't displayed your understanding of the second part of an IPCs learning; the limited capacity. This lends to IPCs being very specialised, even before specialised frames are taken into account. What role has Alice specialised towards?
  12. I like the ECF how Skull has originally proposed it, but I do have an admitted bias considering I have active characters from there with backstories that Skull helped me shape. You're proposing a total retcon of Eridanis foundations rather than building and expending on what already exists. And what you have proposed does not make sense alongside already existing lore. Imagine if someone proposed retconning Dominia in two years, and you're still playing your space-romans when the change is pushed.
  13. Yeah, that's fine. 100% reformed.
  14. I was never informed of the ban duration, and it's not otherwise visible to me anyway. Regardless, I will try to do better in future.
  15. BYOND Key: K0NFL1QT Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: Unknown. Sebkiller handled the ahelps but I do not know who applied the ban. Reason of Ban: "past behavior, and actions taken in the round, regarding improper escalation of conflict, and ganking." Reason for Appeal: Game ID: bTg-cOVw In this round, I attempted to eliminate the AI and borgs to prevent them from interfering in planned later activities, and in doing so recieved a permanent antag ban. I'm not here to say I did nothing wrong and deserve no punishment, only to ask that the permanent status of this ban be instead of a defined length. To break down the actual infractions of that round, I did two things; uploaded a kill order to an AI, was bwoinked and told that's a no-no, so I went to undo the kill order. I still wanted the AI out of the way though, so I carded it with its transmitter turned off, then blew up a borg. Regarding the AI; Did I interact with them? Yes. Did they have a chance to avoid their fate? Yes. The AI had the opportunity to deny assisting my RD from claiming Acting Captian on the grounds that, currently, IPCs are not authorised for Captain level duties. Following that same logic, they could have not turned off their turrets to permit me into the AI Upload and AI Core, although I recognise by this point I was being treated as a legitimate Captain. That said, I know now that kill orders are still considered 'gank' regardless of interaction, so there's no defending that. After I carded the AI, I left them alive but intentionally out of contact with most of the crew so that I would be able to go ahead with my plan without their interference. Except, now that I look back on it, there were two sec officer IPCs that were on the AI Binary channel due to a bug, and the AI was probably communicating to them that way regardless of my attempts to isolate it. Regarding the borg; Did I interact with them? Yes, during their construction. Did they have a chance to avoid their fate? No. I'll admit this was shitty, but I thought it would be permissable as a Traitor RD. It has been done to me before, and deemed totally fine. I have clearly been corrected. Let me lay out the full context. The actions which were deemed unacceptable came during my second traitor character of the shift, after my first was murdered by a station-bound and regularly lawed borg. I'm not going to put everything on this instance, but there was a tense, adrenaline pumping fight, which ended in disappointment because a borg player broke the rules. As a ghost, I could see the borg player wasn't punitively removed for their actions, and that I wasn't going to get any admin assistance to revive my character to correct the mistake that, in character terms, simply shouldn't have happened in the first place; the borg apparantly did not know that lawed synths do not, under any circumstance, kill crew. So, I'm just putting it here that coming into the second character, and being made antag again due to autotraitor, I was already fresh from a somewhat emotional trip and my judgement may have been impaired by that. Admittedly, at this point I simply didn't want to risk any further interference by borgs. With that in consideration, let's look at the permanent nature of this ban. I do not contest that in hindsight my actions were worthy of punishment. While I do not know what my notes say, but of my six warnings over my near four year stay here, three relate to 'improper escalation'. One was five months ago. Another was seventeen months ago and the last was about twenty months ago. This is not frequent and persistant behaviour, and I don't actually antag often due to not wanting to intentionally break rules, but this is one or two incidents a year based on misunderstandings. For example, I recently had a ninja round where not only did things escalate acceptably, I took the spare and pre-emptively disarmed Sec to prevent them validhunting me, but nobody even died that round as a result of my character because Ninjas simply do not need to kill to achieve their objectives. I've been part of recent rev rounds that were also fine. Also I'd like to point out that I recognise when I make mistakes and try to correct them, as evidenced by the fact that since my temporary AI ban I have not had a single incident regarding non-antag station synthetic behaviour. I do not get aggressive with staff when questioned or punished, and I do make efforts to engage with the community to discuss how to better approach these situations, as evidenced by the following threads; How do you provide interesting RP to a player you intend to kill https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9446 What is Gank? https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10544 Looking back at the round in question, I believe I was using predicted behaviour to justify pre-emptive action. That is to say, my assumption that the AI and borgs were going to do everything in their power to shut me down during my eventual actions led me to prioritising removing them first, which is definately something I can address in my playstyle. In pre-empting problems that have not yet manifested, I can see that actions appear random, lacking in RP and ganky, before a longer and more complex plot can get played out to justify the earlier actions. TLDR; I'm appealing the apparantly permanent status of this ban because, while I do make mistakes I respectfully own and try to correct them, and there are examples of antag rounds where my conduct was not in anyway questionable. If the staff reviewing this are merciful, I will accept a shorter ban time on a parole basis with the condition that a further transgression for this same behaviour results in an even harsher punishment, but this is ultimately up to you.
  16. UPDATE SUGGESTION: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Eridani_Federation This page states that the Eridanis homeworld is Oran, but there isn't a data entry about it. That said, the Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals page states their headquarters is on Oran, and the Apex & Ft Sunder Joint Military Academies states it is also on Oran, and a Fort Atrix is 'right in the middle of Oran', but there's no information on the planet itself. Is it a water world? Is it a desert? Is it advanced and high tech? Is it gritty and industrial? Is it marked by a great divide between rich and poor? Etcetera.

    What is Gank?

It's one thing to have vague ruling to 'not gank', without examples. It's another thing to have an exhaustive list of examples of things that are gank, and to be avoided. I say this as someone who made a mistake in judgement, and I'm probably not the only one; what one player considers gank, someone else considers fair game. So, here's a game for the community, because I need a hard list for reasons; list as many examples of 'gank' as you can. Uploading kill laws to an AI. Vampire Dominations that are essentially suicide orders. Blowing borgs who didn't do anything, even as Traitor RD. Buying an antimaterial rifle and scoping a headshot on a random target down the hall. Bombing an area where are lot of people are gathered, with the specific intent to kill a lot of people. Any murder that follows a sleepy pen. Teleporting into a room as a Ninja and decapitating your target without warning or interaction. As a ling, using Silence Sting, flash and cable ties to get an easy succ without a chance to escape your fate. Go.
  18. Diona are a still as yet mostly unknown alien race, with no known formal government structure with whom to negotiate. I would expect them to be distrusted more than machines that humans make, from start to finish, and fully understand.
  19. You could say that synthskin includes sensory feedback systems that mimic pain, but to just say 'robots feel pain now' makes no sense. And, reminder; stun batons are going to be EMP weapons soon, so IPCs are not going to be immune to them. Because half the species are functionally the same with different backstories (Human, Tajaran, Unathi). So it comes down to why they should be restricted. Diona have restrictions on speed based jobs, as do IPCs using industrial shells; these are good reasons for a restriction because it takes an innate aspect of a character/species and judges it as no good for a role. Regarding the basic carbon three, Human, Tajaran and Unathi, there's only really lore/political reasons why they can be restricted, and while these make great temporary reasons for a restriction these would likely soften over time. Perhaps fluctuate restrictions now and then as Nanotrasens relationship with the Tajaran/Unathi governments changes.
  20. I like C. Would this replace current mining voidsuits?
  21. Sure, just trying to drum up some discussion while consideration goes on.
  22. Any further questions? Would anybody like to weigh in on why they would support, or hesitate/decline to support this application?
  23. Don't 'jump' to characters, don't 'follow' characters unless ordered to, don't change z-levels unless you have to.
  24. Do they not still dock at a way station of sorts?
