I don't know about the whole two people on a rollerbed thing - depends on how sturdy it is, I suppose. I can't say it's a feature I've ever noticed missing. Still, isn't that what Inaprovaline is for? It might be nice to be able to put a sheet over someone on a rollerbed. There's a sprite for it already, though it's not especially good. Should be doable, even for me, to resprite it to look a bit nicer and maybe create a sort of blood overlay that stains the sheet to match the places where the person under it has open wounds, but I've got no idea how complex the code would need to be to make it work.

A very good deconstruction, but unless we actually go around and implement all of these, we have to boil them down to existing charges. That was the IRL stuff, yeah. Not that I am not a lawyer, but I have looked into the subject a bit. These things vary a lot depending on country though. Spesslawified: Minor Assault: realistic threats of attack or actual performance of an attack involving minor injury - fisticuffs, disarmspam, tabling etc. Also covers attacks with various 'harmless' weapons, ex. a folder full of papers, a thrown rubber duck, 'softer' less-lethals - tasers, stunbatons, stungloves, pepper spray, flashes, etc. Assault: an attack causing serious injury without the intent to kill. An attack involving a 'real' weapon, ex. a wrench, a kitchen knife, a Unathi/Tajaran's claws, a Hulk's fists, a baseball bat, a bottle of Tunguska Triple Distilled. Basically, if you can hit someone with it three or four times and they'll (barring ridiculous RNG) be able to survive without Medical's immediate attention, it's Assault. Aiming for the head could definitely upgrade it to Attempted Murder, though. Manslaughter: killing someone through negligence or an assault without the intent to kill. An Engineer firing the PA while his mate is in front of it would qualify, as would a friendly knife-fight in the Bar that led to one of the participants bleeding out in Medbay. Attempted Murder: an assault that was or would be perceived by a Reasonable Crewmember (lel) as a deliberate attempt to kill. Ex. a Barfight where one of the participants went down and the other just kept whacking away, an attack with a "Lethal" weapon - one where even a single hit might be life-threatening - Detective's revolver, shotgun slugs, lasers, a fire axe, an energy sword, a Vaurca's mandibles, etc., or a sustained and dangerous attack with a lesser weapon - beating the shit out of someone's skull with an oxygen tank, or hackin' and wackin' and smackin' with a knife, or repeat harmbatonings to the skull. Murder: as above, but someone died. Self-Defense: can downgrade an assault/manslaughter/murder by several steps or all the way to a pat on the back and a handshake, depending on circumstances. I like the way it's phrased in New Zealand law: Reasonably clear, innit? A little vague, though; it is Common Law, after all. So, here's some stuff sort of cribbed from all over the place to act as guidelines. Criminal Activity: If you are attacked in the course of committing a crime, fighting, even to defend yourself and in a fashion that would otherwise be acceptable, is not self defense. Provocation: Is not a defense. What he said about your mother is irrelevant - you are a grown adult, not a hormonal teenager. If someone's making a nuisance of themselves, go to Security and get an injunction. De-Escalation: You should take reasonable steps to de-escalate the situation, where possible. Try and talk him down, instead of running in to robust. Immediate Threat: An attack needs to be either in progress or believably imminent for intervention to qualify as defense of self or others. Urist McCatbeast may have been mrowling over the radio about how much he hates you and wants you dead, but that does not mean you can shoot him the moment he steps into your Bar. If he takes out a fire extinguisher and starts hopping the counter, go for it, but if he can't realistically do anything to you, beanbagging him will get you brigged. The nature of the participants also affects this; even your muscles have muscles, Engineer Crush McStompBones; an unarmed Phoebe Essel is not a credible threat to your life and limb unless a horde of metafriends are backing her up. Proportionate Force: The force must match the threat. If he's punching someone, you can punch him back or disarm him or table him or flash him or pepper-spray him, as suits your fancy; if he's going at someone with a fire extinguisher, you can tase him or beanbag him or break his leg with a baseball bat or any number of other things, but you can't just shoot him with slugs unless it looks like he's trying to bludgeon someone to death. Shooting for the legs or arms DOES NOT downgrade a bulleting to Assault - if you're not justified in shooting to kill, you're not justified in shooting at all. Note that that does not mean that you can empty the rest of the magazine into them once they go down - Self Defense ends when the assault does, and an attacker who can no longer stand is an attacker who cannot be seriously considered a threat, barring special circumstances, say, SCYAR NILA CAPTAIN'S OFFICE! or Urist McLing appears to wake from the dead, having healed all wounds! This includes warning shots - do not fire a shot 'just to scare him off'. You are responsible for every round in your gun, and if one ricochets into an innocent, you will get the blame. Depending on the circumstances - while alone, say, or from ambush - an attack with stun weapons could definitely qualify as an attempted Kidnapping, which is a very serious crime only a few steps below outright murder, and may justify considerable force. Some things that may or may not be present depending on IC laws, regulations and culture: Citizen's Arrest: Regular crewmembers can act to assist Security when a crime is being committed, if necessary, but are subject to the same use-of-force restrictions as Security staff. Defense of Property: Property is of lower value than life - you can remonstrate with someone who's stealing stuff or performing vandalism up to the point of grabbing him by his filthy grey jumpsuit and throwing him out, but anything that causes him more than minor bruising is forbidden. You can't put him in a chokehold and strip-search him, either. If he starts getting frisky and pulls a weapon, though, all bets are off; as above, criminals are not justified in using force, even in self-defense. Duty to Retreat: If you get a reasonable chance to safely disengage and leave it to Security, you must take it. Staying to fight, without the likelihood that someone will be killed or seriously hurt if you retreat, will disqualify a claim of self-defense. Re-Engaging: If you successfully retreat and come back later for Robusted 2: Greyshit Boogaloo, you are the attacker now. Needless to say, even in a legitimate self-defense situation, you need to call Security. Disposaling the weapon you used will not help you to look like a paragon of virtue.

"Homicide" means someone died and you were responsible. "Manslaughter" means someone died and you were responsible, but- "Voluntary Manslaughter" means you planned to kill them, but due to the circumstances, it isn't murder. Say, justified but excessive self-defense. "Involuntary Manslaughter" means they're dead but IT WAS JUST A PRANK BRO I DIDN'T MEAN IT. A pub fight that goes a bit too far would be manslaughter - even if weapons were used. Involuntary Manslaughter is generally the result of Criminal Negligence - a duty of care was owed, the owed care was not performed, and anyone with half a brain would have been able to see that shirking could get someone hurt or killed. There's also Constructive Manslaughter - you are committing a crime, and someone dies, and it is considered your fault and you are charged with manslaughter because they wouldn't have died without your crime. Say, someone fleeing a gunman trips on some stairs and breaks their neck, even if the gunman doesn't shoot anyone he's still charged with murder because someone died and it was his fault because he set out to do a dangerous thing deliberately. A genuine accident is not manslaughter. Manslaughter also covers reckless behaviour that winds up killing someone, like if an Engineer vents a room and doesn't tape the door and someone walks in and dies, or a Detective fires blindly down a hall after a tator and one of the bullets gets someone in the brain meats. "Murder" means someone died and you deliberately killed them. Sometimes there's aggravating circumstances that increase the sentence; they were a witness to a crime, or a cop, or pregnant, or you poisoned them, or you were being paid to do it, or it was an especially gristly killing. There's also Constructive Murder - you were committing a crime, and you killed someone; even if it normally wouldn't be considered murder, the circumstances make it inherently unlawful and you get a murder charge absolutely free. It's not a thing in most Commonwealth states anymore AFAICT, but the 'States still have it in most places. TL;DR: If there's a fight going on and someone draws a knife and uses it, that's Aggravated Assault, or Assault With a Deadly Weapon, or Grievous Bodily Harm; GBH is also called Wounding With Intent. If the other combatant dies, it's Manslaughter. If someone jumps out of nowhere with a knife and stabs someone half a dozen times, that's Attempted Murder.

"Borg, keep people from going in here." "Borg, don't let anyone run off with this evidence." "Borg, catch that fucking baldie." Replace "borg" with "bug" where needed.

Engie hardsuit and plasma cutter are just the ticket for 'ling hunting.

Recolours and copy-paste =/= spriting.
-
Contrast seems to be the trick; too dark and it all blurs. The new light-blue seems pretty good, though I'm not sure about the eye colours and the removal of the yellow from the Bloodhound.
-
It's a much easier effect than the actual lights, sure. AFAIK only nuke op suits and the human sec hardsuit have that glow, though. Updated the screenshot for the catbeast suit; adjusted the shoulders for a bit more contrast and shape. EDIT:
-
Done; Did a few tweaks to the catbeast suit after making this, should look a bit nicer. A possible new cadet uniform: (concept credit to Meowy) Human: Catbeast: Squid: Lizard:

Finally we can wear jandals the way they were meant to be worn - with socks!
-
Working on this. Cake's got some of his own in progress too, so we'll just have to wait and see which comes out better. Changes since the screenshots were taken involve a few more blue accents on the Skrell suit. I've been informed the Tajaran suit could use some tweaks too, so that'll end up with some more blue too. I updated the in-hand sprite for the security helmet. Refitted suits don't have in-hand sprites; recolouring things is more spriting than I've done in years, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to make them.

What about muh calibres? Pistol-calibre rifle for muh pinpoint spray-and-pray, rifle-calibre pistol for maximum dakka/more hilarious failures... An autofire feature could be shiny, but muh jams. Fancy drum magazines should have serious consequences for reliability. They tend to be jam-o-matics even when not prototypes. How would the sprites work? I think variable sprites can be done (thinking food items here) but anything more might be tricky. The devices should have some peaceful applications, but I can't think of any myself.

About the recent influx of hatsune m-m-miko ripoffs

Ripoffs of who? -
How will I RP as an oppressed hairless monkey if the station is actively prevented from having a crew composed of 90% catbeasts, liggers, squids, monitor-heads, bugs and :V? I don't think it's really necessary; there aren't that many aliens most of the time, and when there is they're different types so it isn't just a huge Paradise-style mrowling fur pile.
-
Not too annoying please, 'mech movement makes me want to commit sudoku from the memories alone.
-
That is exactly what nurses are for. Alternately, regular assistants. "Put patient on table" does not require a great deal of mental ability, after all; even a common bald can PUT THE SAW BACK RIGHT NOW.
-
Is LiLITH going to become the next Dr. Mengele except for people who breach corporate regulations? "You failed to fill out forms to build a mech. Now... Into the DNA scanned with you." LiLITH once came into a round to see a surgical cyborg dragging a guy around on a rollerbed and slowly vivisecting him with a described logic process that went thusly: he is an alien infiltrator I am vivisecting him vivisecting crew is forbidden quod erat demonstrandum: he is an alien infiltrator *ping Her reaction was, essentially, to wander off and attend to something else. It was a tator round, but still.

Honking? Once or twice, where I was sure no-one could see it. Slipping? Anyone who slipped did so because they saw a wet floor sign and ignored it. Apart, perhaps, from that filthy blood trail in the Bar, but that wasn't exactly subtly done and one of the previous Janitors misplaced the space cleaner. Brage got slipshoved and tabled, IIRC, but that had nothing to do with me. Ahelping? Not me. Locking, not so much. The engineer was locked, but once she was out of that alcove it was just a matter of shoving past moving objects. It's not necessarily chucklefucking I'm complaining about, as it is the involvement of IC Security. A spot of chucklefucking here and there is a good time, but calling in Sec just isn't sporting. I suppose it's that chucklefucking is a mostly OOC diversion, an amusement for the players that doesn't stand up to too much 'screen time'; 'oops, honk, tee-hee, dank maymay' and then slid off-stage before it draws too much attention. A more effortful example, I suppose, would be a surgeon who emotes accidentally dripping cigarette ash in the patient's incisions, picking his nose mid-operation, misplacing tools and making little fuckups; a 'real' surgeon who did that would be instantly fired, and it's chucklefucking, but he's trying to make things interesting and he's not causing any harm; if it's breaking someone's immersions, an allusion (please stop smoking in Medbay) and a LOOC 'come on man it's funny but can we at least pretend to be professional here' should suffice, instead of instantly phoning Sec and the HoP and IA malpractice demote one million years brig. That, admittedly, isn't what's involved here - this case is just regular chucklefucking, but the general 'keeping it out of the spotlight' aspect remains. -

Honk. I notice you weren't going out of your way to return it, either. It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together when a geneticist is talking about distributing superpowers and strange things are going on near Genetics. Moving stuff around in the Bar earlier, in the Escape Shuttle... And tell them what? Oh, people are getting slammed by self-rolling tanks in Genetics maint, and there's one single Geneticist who has been distributing powers to see through walls and hurl objects around with your mind, but clearly there's no connection, mysterious bluespace happenings, carry on. Besides, there was no point; a little chucklefucking, honk, all good fun. She was trapped when I saw her. The point is, if you're going to chucklefuck, fine, but don't immediately switch to supersrs DON'T TOUCH MEH AAH SECURITY when someone joins in. There was no point in ahelping because no rules were broken, it was just rude. -
BYOND Key: Vanagandr Player Byond Key: XXTheFurryXx Staff involved: None Reason for complaint: Genetics chucklefucking, IC troublemaking when favour returned Approximate Date/Time: 10:30, December 30th So, Isra chucklefucking around with powers again. Yes, fine, whatever. I was the janitor. Isra was playing games with movable objects and trapped an engineer in maint, as she does. Also sent my cart flying away. Rescued the engineer, we went to remonstrate with her. New geneticist arrived, I followed her in, was stuck outside the doors of Genetics for a little while, then managed to work my way in. Splashed water on the floor, slipped Isra, *honk*, chucklefucking punished in kind. All good. Then she comes out for round two, with the amazing self-slamming locker. Fine, whatever, I've had enough, get stuffed. I go to retrieve my cart, find it, then she comes after and grabs it again. I follow, of course; a Janitor is nothing without his cart. She runs into Telesci, I follow. She runs into Research, I follow. She runs into Genetics and slams the door. Now trapped in Research, I mill around for a while and follow a Xenobiologist back into glorious Maintenance. Hang on, there she is! She's in Research. She doesn't have my cart, though. One thing leads to another, slip, *honk*, swipe ID, "thanks", run into Genetics, here's my cart, grab it, some more scuffling, I distinctly recall being disarmed and dropping the ID but apparently it ended up in the cart's trash bag during the clickfest. So, fine, all's fair; I've got my cart back, geneticist got her chucklefuck on, everyone's happy. Then she gets sec and the CMO involved. Got salty when the superpowered detective cuffed me, because the complaint I have is, beyond the usual, you don't do this. Chucklefuck, ok, whatever, all good, but don't fucking get sec involved when you get honked back and lose, especially when you started it. If you got something taken off you in the clusterfuck, PDA message or something, because if you come running after someone with your fucking headglow going they're just going to assume you're coming back for round three and sax harder. How the fuck am I supposed to filter through my gear and find your damned cat ID when you're chasing me? Log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lb3shsujbknuitp/log%202015-12-30%20%2810%2043%20pm%29.htm?dl=0

Why would anyone have a basic mechanical arm if they could have one with storage compartments or glorious muscle?
-
Get a jetpack (so you don't drift) and a GPS on the floor (so you can wander a little but still find the evac tile) and have your telesci monkey hit the button again after thirty seconds or so.

Not Letting this die (Unification War: A living background)
Vanagandr replied to Dea Tacita's topic in Archive
If anything the vague colonial lore is a good thing; there's far too many little polities and factions out there to track ICly or OOCly, so having little detail allows people to come up with all sorts of backgrounds which matter to their character but which no-one else has ever heard of, in or out of character. -
I don't think an extra surgery room is truly necessary. You can get the Geneticist to let you in to use his table and tools; he's too busy hunting for Hulk and Remote Viewing to use it himself. You can chat up the Roboticist and borrow his table. If there's several surgeons, you can trot over to R&D and send someone else to Engineering and convert an existing room into a theatre or attach a whole new section by Virology. If Urist McGreyshit has wandered off with the tools, you can go to Cargo - or R&D - or the Kitchen and Primary Tool Storage and pick up a toolbox. In a pinch, you can smash your way into one of the above or get the AI to DOOR, either or. Speaking of missing tools, Bone Gel isn't truly necessary; stop by Primary Tool Storage, pick up a screwdriver, some brackets and a box of screws. Fix-O-Vein is nice, but if you take the wire out of some cable and use surgical glue to attach the insulating sheath to the damaged blood vessel...
-
Take out the circular saw and drill and they won't be able to do organ repairs and brain surgery themselves, but will be able to handle fractures and embedded bullets. Maybe a rollerbed instead of an all-up surgery table.
