  1. I played the engineer in question and I would say that I did follow fear RP by virtue of not instantly unloading on you on the elevator when you cornered me. That would have been complete shit, and I agree there, but I intentionally waited for you two to be nearly offscreen + I made sure that you gave me back my ID so I could run into maintenance, and thus I had the ability to run away. You didn't really need to fuck me over to not get shot, honestly. If you had taken my ID for example I would never have attempted this since I wouldn't have had an easy way out. Also, you were just 2 heisters, and if you were grouped up in a full stack I would also never have done this. Not even just that - one of you didn't have a gun at all, the other only had a sword. If you two had guns I also probably wouldn't have done this since I would've eaten shit in the maintenance tunnel.
  2. MINISTER OF DEFENCE, ADMIRAL MARCUS CARBONERO, SACKED THIS MORNING: NEW REPLACEMENT AND NAVY REFORM PLANS ANNOUNCED Article 2 of the Amor Patriae Prologue This live coverage of today's press conference by the Provisional Government is brought to you by the Sol Alliance News Network. After thirty minutes of waiting, at precisely 18:00 on Unity Station, a man that appears to be in his late fifties rises up onto a podium, with a Solarian flag behind him. He is wearing a Navy dress uniform and has a dour, serious look. Cameras begin to flash at the man as he begins speaking. Those that are especially interested in Alliance politics would recognise this man as Admiral Yuhan Verhasselt, the head of the Provisional Government. “Nearly three years ago, the very foundation of the safety of our nation, the Navy, was shaken to the core. Parts of this organization, infested with traitors and corporate-sponsored backstabbers, began to rebel against their own kin – against Solarians – and against our great nation’s values,” he begins, clearly holding his words back to some degree. “I speak as a man that has been with the military since I became an adult. It is evident now that the Solarian Navy is no longer the organization it used to be – no longer the organization I knew it as, and the same goes for many of you. The Collapse proved to us just how unstable our foundations were and what dangers our nation faces today, and as we begin looking to the future, it is necessary to reform the Navy to bring it up to par once more. To that effect, this morning I dismissed the minister of defense. Admiral Marcus Carbonero. In his place, the provisional government has appointed the decorated Fleet Admiral of the 1st Battlegroup, Lucien Courtois.” Verhasselt steps off of the podium. After him, a man in his late thirties or early forties steps onto the podium. Still wearing a Navy dress uniform, he appears to be considerably younger with less of a dour gaze and more of a fiery and involved look. He places a set of papers on the podium and looks at the reporters in the room. When he begins speaking, he does so with a good amount of passion in his voice. “It’s no secret that the state of the Solarian Navy is shambolic at best,” he begins his speedch, eliciting a few gasps from the functionaries in the back, although they are quickly shushed, “Significant parts of our Navy were allowed to openly rebel in a state of emergency and continue to run their petty kingdoms in Alliance territory. To this effect I ask all Solarians – what is the purpose of a military, if it cannot hold together?” Nobody in the room answers. “The answer to this simple question is none. Many Solarians think that all of these traitors have left to the so-called Wildlands now, but they are wrong – the rebellions that we faced two years ago were facilitated by collaborators in our ranks. The Navy is still infested with these traitors, and it’s about time that they were brought to justice. This amount of corruption and complacency is only further exacerbated by the fact that the Navy only answers to itself, and no other individual.” The Admiral lets these words hang for a bit, but then quickly moves on… “In matters of doctrine, our Navy is not up to par either. The established doctrine is far too rigid for modern standards and needs to be adapted, especially now that ships are beginning to be outfitted with the Hammer drive. Now that we have a potentially crushing advantage over our opponents – a drive that doesn’t use phoron – tactics that make use of it must be developed. However, complacency in the Ministry of Defense has prevented any advancements from occurring in this field. While we may possess the most advanced military in the Spur, that does not mean anything if we are still using outdated tactics from the Interstellar War.” Courtois picks up the papers on the podium and starts reading from them. “Finally, this reform plan will conclude by putting all of these improvements to the test with increased border patrols and military maneuvers around our northern border. My message to every Solarian in our borders – every single one, even those currently under control by these Warlords – when it’ll be time to strike again, our Navy will stand strong, united and ready to defend you.” The Admiral says these final words looking directly at the cameras and at every single reporter, then proceeds to answer their questions for thirty minutes, before leaving with his escort. Now, the word goes to our reporter, Céline Eylenbosch. A blonde woman stands in the hallways leading to the Unity Station senate, with a large number of known VIPs, Admirals and other such figures passing through. Her expression is rather ecstatic, and she speaks with a characteristic Cytherean accent. She looks fairly exhausted -- probably from shooting rapid-fire questions to more than a few people -- and tends to pant a bit, taking a few small pauses in her words. “Thank you for passing the word to me! Fleet Admiral Lucien Courtois indeed seems to be a very qualified person for the job!... Admiral Courtois is the ex-admiral of the famous twenty-ninth fleet, the man responsible for preventing the takeover of New Hai Phong two years ago by the rogue sixty-seventh fleet! He fought a numerically superior foe and came out victorious with minimal casualties, and our battle reporters wrote many military articles on his new and revolutionary doctrine. And who else could the Provisional Government pick for a total reform of the Navy?” Céline finishes this elegy by clearing her throat. She is pushed a bit by an Admiral rushing through the hallway, whom she looks to awkwardly, but then continues. “He, as you have seen, has outlined the need for reform that many Solarians wished for… but nobody expected words of this degree! Especially after our past Ministers have always praised the establishment and never made any attempt to rock the boat. I can tell you the reporters–... all reporters in that room were completely shocked to hear his words, which I imagine came at a complete surprise to everyone! We were all pleased, but many doubts still linger on if these plans will really work… is it a good idea to rip the foundations apart now, with all these threats at our border? This was Céline Eylenbosch with the Sol Alliance News Network, thank you for tuning in and let’s hope for the best in these trying times! Long live the Solarian Alliance!”
  3. Here is why I banned you: First of all, your last log in to the server was at the very beginning of a month ago. To add to that, you have no rounds played at all in 2022. You were never active in the Aurora discords, and thus we have no real reason to believe that you just happened to open the Relay page. You have exactly one message sent in the Relay discord, thus it is quite clearly a discord you do not pay any attention to whatsoever. Coincidentally, after we started commenting on manifest grief and someone posted a link to a new discord for the manifest, you joined it. With all of these factors considered I decided to ban you as I have a pretty good guess that you are part of whichever group is griefing the manifest. Am I wrong on any of these assumptions?
  4. On trial until 13SEP2022. Link your forum account to the Web Interface.
  5. PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES PRESS CONFERENCE TOMORROW AT 18:00 Article 1 of the Amor Patriae Prologue The Head of the Provisional Government, Fleet Admiral Yuhan Verhasselt, has announced that he will host a press conference on Unity Station tomorrow at 18:00 GST regarding the Government’s plans for the Solarian Navy and what new measures will be taken. The Sol Alliance News Network's coverage of this exceptional event will be hosted by reporter Céline Eylenbosch.
  6. This forum is for contesting IC actions. You need to make a new post in the Ban Appeals section.
  7. No. We need feedback on the application first to move forward with a trial.
  8. Feedback is lacking. Have you been advertising your app?
  9. Voting for dismissal. Technomancer replaced wizard to try and (unsuccessfully) solve some of the inherent issues with the gamemode, chiefly the fact that a D&D-type gamemode really has no place on our server. I'd argue that this goes for Technomancer too at this point as well. Replacing Technomancer with Wizard again would just result in the same problems resurfacing, because the problem with Wizard cannot and won't be fixed -- the fact that it's inherently immersion breaking. At this point, I would rather see Technomancer just go completely and not be replaced with another wacky gamemode.
  10. Approved conceptually, although this is the first time I have heard of this kind of Consular concept being played and I would much appreciate being informed in the future if you intend to play a type of Consular that is not mechanically represented.
  11. The thing is that I'm not sure if this is actually possible. In game you would spawn in as a hegemony Consular anyway, no? Or am I wrong? I don't fully remember how the Unathi consular stuff is set up.
  12. Are you still playing regularly? You can't play Consular for your trial, note. The strip was dependent on whether or not you had your forum account linked to the WI. Since you didn't, it was removed.
  13. Some things I'd like to address: This character is a merchant, correct? I can see this item working for a merchant but not for a ship character. Is this a fleet that's meant to be publicly available to everyone or not?
  14. Accepted, sure.
  15. I don't think this point is very valid to be fair as people that wanted to do surgery used to intentionally pick the Surgeon alt title to do it, but with this change there would be an active expectation that you are a) not the sole surgeon b) expected to do GTR work as well and c) have no right to a monopoly of the ORs.
  16. Due to the nature of this kind of complaint, I would like to remind everyone reading to not post unless directly involved.
  17. Nationalization of megacorporate assets is not something that should be taken lightly in a megacorporate-dominated setting. The big thing to remember is that corporations essentially run the Spur-wide economy and the glass house of intergalactic economy is basically half-managed by them. A structure like that is inherently fragile and Sol nationalizing a fairly large amount of corporate assets in its space should ring some fairly big alarm bells for the galaxy, but also for its inhabitants. First and foremost, this action basically guarantees Biesel's hostility towards Sol, while it might be seen by some governments as amiable at most. Secondly, for Solarian citizens, the cessation of many corporate assembly chains essentially means that for a good amount of time, certain goods that require corporate expertise (think heavy machinery operation or assembly lines) are going to skyrocket in price for a while as retooling takes place and facilities are emptied out of their managers and re-staffed by SCA-appointed personnel. Sol's economy would take a sizeable hit, in my opinion, although I am no economist. It should reasonably rebound once the SCA really gets going, however. This action does allow Sol a good amount of control over its own economy as well, and makes it independent in SOME sectors -- this is more than Biesel has. The only company we currently have that arguably has a soul is Idris. Everything else falls short of having a defined personality simply because they don't have a powerful enough theme for players to latch onto. Idris succeeds because it has a strong, immediately-visible personality: sleazy bankers that just want money is something that's easy to co-opt and make a character out of. Everything else is niche or simply not well-advertised enough, or too hard to latch onto (Zeng-Hu's augment business is not only just not elaborated upon, it also hard-locks out a significant amount of characters, you have to make a really weird character to go along with ZH's theme, hence why most people just avoid this corp). In general, corporations need more of the flair that Idris has, but that's a major project on its own. Jargon needs its power scale checked, ideally through some sort of internal crisis à-la-KOTW. It is absolutely impossible for me to consider any sort of formal Jargon-Alliance relationship simply because that would mean the 2 most powerful entities in the Spur entering a formal alliance, which has INSANE repercussions for the Spur's political landscape. This kind of alliance would make our lore much worse as it'd essentially make both Sol and Jargon completely untouchable. Other than that, it should be a primarily trade or services-based relationship for the time being, with Jargon supporting Sol's current government and not messing about in the wildlands if not to benefit Sol to some degree. I'd like to see more Sol-Jargon cooperation hinted at in the tech/science fields, as well. The importance of bluespace gates (which are phoron-powered) is an often overlooked aspect, despite being a major one. Bluespace gates shutting down would essentially mean basically almost every single civilian/transport ship network shutting down as they can't use bluespace travel otherwise. This is a major issue that all governments would realistically be looking at -- imagine all cargo ships and airplanes ceasing to function overnight. That'd be a colossal deal, one which is not really ever hinted at or even pointed out in-lore. That's the biggest impact I can think of -- otherwise, I'd say shortage of pharmaceuticals and a looming power generation crisis are the bigger ones. A lot of inspiration can be taken from the 2000s energy crisis in this regard. Focusing on effects on characters, travel costs would spike up a lot; the same goes with import costs and all kinds of related things. What we can show off articles-wise would probably involve interviews of normal people in Biesel/Sol/the CoC from a diverse pool of planets. Essentially, these interviews would contain the average persons' grievances caused by the phoron shortage (as mentioned before, import costs, travel costs, fuel costs, ...) which can be made visible through the wiki (ideally in a Phoron Shortage page or something) and thus utilized by characters in-game for storytelling or background purposes. On an even higher level, thus speaking about governments, reason follows that governments would grow more desperate for phoron as time goes on (see my point about bluespace gates, the entire galaxy is quite literally on a timer to complete and utter economic explosion) and this should be reflected.
  18. The issue I take with this segment is that you admit that this was a very visible gimmick in the first place. You were going to meet up with the technomancer in a public area by walking past public areas full of people, and then you decide that when you see someone, the appropriate course of action is to hold them up and tell them to not talk about you, despite the fact that you are intentionally walking through a public area to be seen. I can understand telling people to not call you out if you're doing a stealthy gimmick, but nothing about what you are saying is stealthy or even close to it. This is where the problem I have comes in: you are playing a gimmick meant to be public -- or at the very least, one where you know you're going to be seen instantly (around this time both your accomplices were known and were roleplaying in the bar). So why did you deviate from the gimmick to go and murder Rize for calling you out, when the plan you had very clearly involves the antagonists being a publicly known element? It is true that according to escalation rules you are justified in killing someone that called you out. But when that is what you want to happen, this comes off as little more than fishing for a confrontation or for a reason to shoot someone. More problematic than that is the fact that you did not consider the gimmick or your fellow antagonists at all in this course of action. By following Rize to the equipment room from around Medical purely to kill her because she called you out, you essentially completely messed up the gimmick, tone of the round and escalation for the other two antagonists. Being a team antagonist does not mean that you get to ignore your allies to chase kills -- you need to be considerate of the gimmick/story they're building. What you did here was quite clearly the opposite. A week-long antag ban will be given to Forester. No action will be taken regarding Kyres and Gladiator, as they were dealt a bad hand and there was no real good outcome for them.
