Gentlemen, and ladies, Allow me to make this point clear and brief. No amount of mechanical tweaking will fix this. No amount of changes to the code will fix this. No amount of talking will fix this. No amount of shifting the blame will fix this. The only thing that will fix this issue is action. Allow me to very delicately describe the situation that Staff currently rests in: We are very quaintly stuck between an n count of people who will attack us if we start trying to mend this here issue with both sides, because hey, we're suddenly going against their fun and trying to dictate how things work. Now, back onto what'll actually fix this. As I said, actions will. It's really, god damned simple. Stop acting like pricks towards others. I'm sorry, but yeah. Do that. What you perceive as an in-joke is, can be, will be perceived as an act of open hostility by a new player, and make them feel unwanted. Soo, stop: Discriminating against every bald Yelling at people who accidentally call restart votes Backseat adminning Clique-related attitude If someone does something dumb, you tell an admin. If they're new, moreso. Otherwise it'll end will you lot descending upon someone like a horde of harpies upon someone who may not be deserving. Oh, and to you veteran folk, who put out lines like this: Start working towards fixing the situation. Seriously. Admins can't act without grounds, and you can provide us this grounds. Call me up, tell me, "This dude is being shitler because A, B, and C," and I will do my best re-enactment of this guy right here:

Important things: - IPCs are impervious to paincrit (!this is an amazing thing, seriously, it really fucking is!) - IPCs have a brute damage modified (either 0.5 or 1.5, Iiiii forget) - IPCs are impervious to disease and organ failure - IPCs are impervious to radiation - IPCs do not need a breathable atmosphere nor oxygen, they just need some sort of gas that is at room temperature - IPCs are unable to enter EVA without a modified RIG suit (they require advanced temperature control) -- Helmets make IPCs overheat (this is a kek, and will be fixed) - IPCs do not have their own language (current options: give them all hunam languages + one xenos, or give them their own language; I prefer the former) -- I do not wish to give IPCs binary, because it doesn't make sense, and can lead to excruciatingly dumb things - IPCs lack auto-regeneration -- They are unable to fix themselves -- Note that this fact is kind of pushed aside when you consider that they do not feel pain, and are not debilitated by it. Meaning: they can run around with 100+ damage without keeling over and going into pain/oxyloss death - IPCs will shortly be able to select their own colour (because, why not? We paint our laptops, as Scopes said, so let's get coloured IPCs! (dontmakemeregretthis ;-) - IPCs die rather hilariously to EMPs

I will say one thing. An alternate solution, and one that I would have let happen, is have security deal with your character, Bobsen, as they would have sought fit and let the round play out. And then contact you at the end of the round, and run, basically a review. Though this may have resulted in you being permabrigged for causing difficulties in a high stress situation, and them just opting to make away with you. Also, wasn't there, but if Sec really didn't communicate with you much beyond arresting and so on, then we may have an issue. Although, I hope that the majority of the players present at the time (at least two did: the HoS and Meowy) read this and take some advice. -
Trying certain things on Z-level 2, where the tiles are unsimulated. Our Head Admins are responsible for a number of crashes with ties to testing things like that (YeahChris more so).

TheCritsyBear's Moderator Application
Skull132 replied to Gallic's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I am curious. Since this is a hot button topic, what would you perceive as the balance between a fun environment and a roleplay environment? Hopefully I expressed the question well enough. Feel free to lock it down with examples, as needed. -
The latest interaction I had with you left an odd taste in my mouth. We had an issue that needed solving, and instead of squaring the issue away for yourself, for good, you opted to lean on crutches. Basically, instead of figuring out how to respond to situations well as an antag, you opted to start actively consulting people, or cease, if none are available. This paints the image of a person who either cannot improve and develop themselves, or lacks independent thought within some areas. As a moderator, you will be presented with situations that are new and foreign to you. Sometimes without backup. How do you think you would cope with that?

Mod Application take two: OneOneThreeEight
Skull132 replied to a topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Okay, you lost me with your last paragraph. That's something I want to talk to you about, actually. But later. First, you didn't answer my initial criticism. Do you just think that you might make a decent moderator, or do you know that you will make a good member of staff? -
As of yesterday, 22JAN2015, the initial commits for Mutiny are in. However, there is a bug that stops us from running the gamemode. I'm presently looking at the issue, and should be able to update on what's doing what tomorrow, or the day after.

Alrighty, I'll lift the ban and provide another chance for you. For future reference, if you see something like this happen in the future, don't jump and attack them. If they attack you, adminhelp it, as it does go against the rules for the majority of cases. Have a nice day.
-
Nah, what we're doing isn't rocketscience. 5 days of play should be enough to get a feel for things, and start figuring out where you need to tread how; or when to ask what.

Okay, So before everyone starts yelling at me with quotes along the lines of, allow me to actually explain the system at play. Eversince last year's December, we have been hosting a database that enables us to "age" players. Every new player that plays on our server, will have their ckey carried over into a collection, and their first time of play dated. From there on out, we can check the age of this player in days. So, let's say I made a new accounted, played yesterday. As of today, the entry is one day old, and so my ckey/player age is considered to be one day. Now, this enables us to install a few soft limites. Restrictions that are lifted automatically, and that can allow for the planned integration of new players. Now, where do we apply this? Out of all of the antag modes, there are two which stand out as being considered a bit more demanding due to the nature of our server, and will require some familiar with how the server is managed: nuke and heist. What would I suggest? Applying a 5 day age restriction for those two antag slots. 5 days, one work week, would enable new players to not get selected by accident, and chucked into the mix without having a solid grasp on the mechanics here (that right there is my main reason for suggesting this). It is also a short enough time that experienced players from other servers shouldn't get annoyed at their inability to play the role. Also, guidance versus limitation. Other antag roles are primarily single-antag type. This enables a moderator or an admin to very clearly and without much effort to advise and guide the player, even if they're new. In nuke and heist, however, there are other teammembers who are involved, and the entire team sets the tempo that the newbie would then have to keep up with, all the while talking to a member of staff for guidance. I think that for this, a soft limit is better than saying, "We can teach'em!" For both, player and staff. So, thoughts?

[Denied] Kane DeWitt - Worn Leather Jacket/Outlands Jacket
Skull132 replied to Kane's topic in Denied Apps
Shell casings are worn as anything from decoration to mementos. I even have a friend who carries a blank 5.56 NATO round in his wallet (probably retarded to carry a fully loaded round, but yeah). -
Konf, the custom items can be restricted by job or department, even the generic ones. This would go under that, if Duck did the thing.

Mod Application take two: OneOneThreeEight
Skull132 replied to a topic in Moderator Applications Archives
The first post for the selection process will kick in next week, whenever trials are picked. Until then, no applications are outright denied. Now, let's see. You're unsure in your application, that much is clear. Sell yourself more, you should be applying with the mindset of, "I am here, I can do stuff, I can be useful!" Instead of, "I think I want to do this, uh, yes?" Figure out the mindest first, and we'll then proceed onto the next point. That being your conduct. You are an individual noted for the silly thing of, "Backstea moderating". Basically, harping over people's actions in LOOC, without much constructive effort put into it. It looks as if you make a point of trying to show people that they're violating the rules, instead of simply hailing a member of staff to take care of an issue. I'm not interested in the "why," at this point. Instead, as a prospectful moderator, what are your thoughts on this sort of conduct? What effects can it have on the community, shoud it become widespread? Should it be curbed, or encouraged? -
Rebel1254's Moderator Application
Skull132 replied to CrunchyIntruder's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
You are the head of another roleplay server, technically a competative one. Why did you feel it necessary to leave this fact unmentioned, or unnoted? Understand that information like that should be considered important enough to end up on this application, as it may lead to conficting interests and unnecessary bias. With the above note in mind, could you please further explain as to why exactly it is that you are applying. -
Consider this a poll for public opinion, Zip. Previously, the complaint was that the OOC actions of the staff were not inline with the community's desires. Now we're getting the community's feedback in a manner, so that we may evaluate and plan future actions in line with that. Do know though, that no decision here has ever been final.
-
Oh, a note. I urge people against voting "Don't care." This is a subject presented to the community, for the community. If you, for some reason or another, have not yet formed an opinion on the matter, then I advise you to do so now. Regardless of which option wins, a parallel victory would have no votes with "Don't care," and everyone aware and armed with a personal opinion on the matter.
-
The ban was automatic, trigger by your IP. I'll have a look in the next 10 hours and get back to you.
-
Ban lifted.
-
The circumstances you listed differ slightly from the account I was able to scrounge up, however, we're going to extend you another chance, unless any staff have any objections over the next 24 hours.
-
Ban lifted. Please do read the rules upon returning, and apologies about the belayed reply.
-
Notice: date of ban is 24NOV2014. The mismatching date is due to information migration. According to the notes, you have been banned twice for ganking a player, and logging on contact. Once on 01NOV, then again on 24NOV. Alright, on the count of you believing that the individual had an energy sword, okay. However, you've been talked to about 3 times prior to this, at which point you should have read the rules and the part which explained that End of Round grief is punishable by staff. As such, had they even attacked you, you could have just adminhelped it and been free without charge. What happened?
-
I'm curious. You were warned about shuttle grief prior, and yet you still broke the rule. Why?
-
You know. These threads pop up every now and then. I usually smile and wave, forcing a happy and joyful, "Goodbye, and best of luck with whatever!" Forcing. Why am I doing this, using words which do not belong with my thoughts? Because here we have a member of our community, the reason why we're all here, opting to walk away in a usually disgruntled fashion. What would I rather do? Sidetrack them. Grab them by the arm, sit them down, and squeeze every single word they have to say about this community, its members, its staff out of them. And then I would address, or see towards addressing these issues, even when I am listed as one of them. Why don't I do this? Because I don't feel it necessary to interrogate people. They should present these issues themselves, because, at the end of the day, if they don't, then who will speak for them? Make no mistake, my words are not aimed against FarCry. He is actually a rare exception to the trend noted above, an individual who actively, as both a member and moderator, spent time shaping and working on this community. A commitment and an effort which earns anyone my highest respects. But the trend is still there, still being followed, even by individuals who should know that they can do more than just sit, wait, watch and nod. The staff are tools. We shape the world to what the community want it to be. We do pick out toxic people, and gradually work them. But we don't know of all of them. And we cannot act without grounds, lest we be called authoritarian.
-
I hate resignations and never know what to say on them. Bleh. Okay. You did an amazing job as an admin and a member of our community. You're also a great person to talk to about whatever, really. See ya about, FFrances. Have a good one and ping me whenever, really.
