  1. This is completely understandable. The issue is that, (as much as people would like to deny it), Unathi and Tajaran take quite a good deal from other games, done to their speech-patterns, and naming styles. Why? It's easier, and it's more simple, and whoever came up with them knew that. People also will go to them because they're rather safe, in that people are able to play these races, without jumping in as a character with a huge downfall to it. As you stated, it's any easy race that's "cool" to play as, and it has the security-factor of the already set-in-stone base build from the games they were taken form. While it would be great to see some completely original SS13 alien races, the truth is that it'd be way too hard for most people to do. I know you weren't stating "I'm going to go make my own races today", but I thought I needed to throw that out. Most of your sci-fi races probably took sometime to come up with, and I dunno if anybody in the SS13 community can get something on par with the Star Trek, Star Wars, or Mass Effect races. So, while it would be cool to see an original alien race in SS13, the likely-hood of something coming around that isn't piggy-backing off something else, is pretty slim.
  2. A random person shouldn't get banned for doing this, on their first instance, either. Banning somebody for their first instance of something is a bit much, in my opinion, unless it's something related to outright grief. This was what this was. There was no previous incidents of this happening, and thus, the player was told to stop. Warnings seem to do absolutely nothing, period. The playerbase is not afraid of your silly notes and player warning mechanics. You do not establish a precedent and hammer it into people that they fucked up without outright threatening a ban or applying it. A cop is not doing their job if they're only issuing citations to people who have repeatedly screwed up and have proven themselves to disregard the rules for what they are at any given opportunity for personal gain. Stop being limp-noodles. Do something. Yes, because giving everybody three-day/week/perma bans is a good idea, for every thing they do. That's a pretty easy way to alienate people, if you're giving people bans for everything they do. If they know they're going to get banned for their first-slip up, they won't do anything at all. There is a point where you can rule with an iron fist, but would it be worth being known as "that one admin/moderator/staff member who bans everybody for their first instance"? I think not, but if the general playerbase is supposedly more happy with staff members banning on their first instance, then maybe we have an issue. And no, before somebody says "well, Mirk did (x)". I'm talking about spamming the faxes, which was what the ban request's original focus was.
  3. The thing is this, secret is the most voted game-mod, and ends up being the picked game mode. Removing extended from the rotation won't just remove it from the list, it will end up making it one of those modes that rarely get picked. How often is extended actually voted for, outside of event times? Not very often, in reality. Sure, some people might not like extended, but others do. That said, without extended being the rotation, the only thing that will be there will be constant antag rounds. You may say "oh, that'll influence to pick extended". No, it won't. The reason that it worked before, was being Aurora was getting 20-30 players, most of the time. Aurora is a rather popular server, and with that, comes more people who are interested in antag rounds, than extended. Also, I'm not sure if Extended is chosen more highly. Probably want to get somebody to confirm that. This idea shouldn't happen. It would lower the times extended is played, even further. Antag rounds have their time, and it's often, so why remove extended?

  5. Again, I don't see how saying "nobody told them to stop" keeps being brought up, when two staff, and non-staff players have stated the opposite. The issue is that other non-staff players have also expressed annoyance with the constant statements of Germany, and Nazis. It is fine once or twice, but this is a daily occurrence. The same goes for any other things. If somebody wants to talk about how they liked the Soviet Union's actions during Stalin's rule, okay fine, that's alright. If you're doing it every, or every other day, then it isn't okay anymore. This is a time and place for everything. OOC is not a place to bring up the Nazis. I'd assume on most servers, if you brought the Nazis up, you'd be told to stop, because it's not an appropriate thing to be constantly doing. It's tactless. Also, how was it a minor celebration of Germany? They were...celebrating the Nazis? I think we all understand that the Nazis were brought up in the conversation, and while they are a part of Germany's history, I would find it a bit odd to be celebrating that part of your history.
  6. How many times do I have to say it. I was never told to stop until AFTER all the things were said. I complied, and another player in OOC asked for "English?" of what I said last, which was "Meine Ehre heißt Treue", so I did. I translated it for them, and said: "Meine Ehre heißt Treue = My Honor is Loyalty." shortly after this, I was muted and given a stern talking to by IJ. This is not true. While my memory may be getting shittier by the day, I distinctly remember you and another player speaking about these things in OOC, and told multiple times to stop, before the last one. The most likely thing that happened is that you glanced over them multiple times somehow. You were told to stop, before the last one. You keep saying you weren't, but as I'm sure other people can tell you, you were.
  7. The main issue is this. You and another player who were making jokes, were told to stop no less than three times by the staff team, and you refused to. The things regarding Hitler, was due to another player reportedly seeing this take place, and let the Staff team know. It may be important if the player who said this to back the claim up. Also, you claimed that it was a joke. That said, you were told to stop and you didn't. Even if you aren't offended by jokes like this, some people may. You said it wasn't supposed to a certain way, but how was anybody supposed to know that, at the time? You didn't seek to clear it up in OOC, or with any players (I can't recall if you tried with staff). Here is a question that I think needs to be raised, because OOC a lot of times devolves into discussion of Nazis and debates about WWII. This is both directed to Space, and players who think it's appropriate to bring jokes up about Nazis (which you did admit you did) into OOC. Is this REALLY something that needs to be brought up in OOC? Also, you stated: You sure? One of the links that was posted was, if I'm recalling correctly, literally a song about Nazis. Unless, of course, there was another reason to have a Nazi flag on the screen for the entire song. I mean, I could be wrong there, but normally when I see a Nazi flag in a song, I assume it has something to do with Nazis. Also, just because others are doing it, doesn't mean you have to right to do so as well. Two wrongs don't make a right.
  8. Disclaimer: Alright, so look here. People seem to think that the Khajiit, or the Nords are "good guys", when in reality, they aren't. The good guys are the Imperials (both Nibeneans and Colovians, of course), as everybody should know. Look, we got the Khajiit. Who likes these guys? They're just cats, who deals drugs and steals stuff. Like, what? They're just petty criminals, all of them too. They're lucky that they haven't gotten wiped out yet. Man, just look at them. They're so dumb. On the subject of animals as "races" (ha), we got the Argonians, which is another race that needs to just go away. Hell, just get the dragons to come back, and get them to raze Black Marsh. They're also thieves, like the Khajiit, but this time they're like frogs or lizards, and some of them have horns to look cool, but they don't look cool. Next, we have the useless Nords. They can't even control their own land, so the Imperials had to come and try to civilize these savages. Some of their peasants knew better, and sided with the Legion, but some of them thought they could do whatever they wanted. Like, what now? Even worse, they decided that because they can't cope with the sheer intelligence, strength, and wealth of the Empire (which, mind you, the slow "collapse" was just a joke to make the lesser races feel special), that they had to try and become terrorists and attack the peaceful Legion soldiers. Next, we have all the Mer races, but come on. Do I really need to tell you why the elf races are bad? Seriously? They call each other different names, but they all mean the same thing. They're lazy, and try to abuse the Empire's trust for their own gain. Is it possible to say "I trust a Mer" with a straight face? I didn't think so. It's one of the oldest jokes in the book, because it's also the one that has the most truth to it. Also, I'm going to throw in Breton with the Mers, because they're pretty much idiotic Mer who thought by being with somebody superior to them (humans) their kids would be liked. Ha. For this next one, I'm pretty sure they're just some Imperial mage's joke that got out of hand. The "orsimer" are probably worse than the Nords, and that's literally saying a lot. If you're worse than them, you know you're really pretty bad. First off, they have these underbites, because I guess they don't know how to fix that? They're also all green, because I guess they fell into a lake full of pollen or something. They also look like they could have been a troll or giant. They're probably dumb enough to, anyways. Next, we have the Redguards. I mean, they could be fine if they hadn't left the Empire they could have been cool. They don't know how to use magic, because they think they're strong enough without it (another funny joke). Anyways, the Redguards are probably going to fight the Nords, and two lesser groups will be wiped out, so that the Empire doesn't have to deal with these guys anymore. So, this comes to the Imperials. What do they have? Well, they know how to do everything the other races do, and know how to do it better. Charm, intelligence, strength. All of that, times like twenty. They commonly try to save these savages from themselves, but "no" they say. They don't want to be brought up from their poverty and plague-driven farms by the "evil" Empire. What else does the Empire have? Wealth. What does wealth buy? Power, and importance. How important is High Rock, Skyrim, or Elsweyr. The answer is not at all. The Empire and the Emporers have been gratious enough to let these guys, like the lizards, or the cats, or the terrorists, believe that they were important. One day, they will have to realize that the Empire is the Alpha and the Omega, the be-all-end-all. Until then, those who have the honor of calling themselves an Imperial can enjoy life with actual food and clothes, while everybody else tries to live off skooma and rags. Discuss why the Imperials are the best around.
  9. Now, here's some things I want to point out. I am not trying to say you were 'wrong', but a few things are off a tad bit. I came in near the end of the round, but I saw a few things. The round ended at 2:33 exactly. You didn't sit in the brig for three hours like you claimed, and unless you headed to the station AS SOON as the round started, I don't think it would be two and a half hours either. Secondly, the hardsuits that the syndicates wear (if I'm recalling correctly) ARE military grade and look it. They aren't just stuff you can commonly grab off the market, which is why a lot of people will use it to connect the dots between two groups of nuke ops. Third, this stuff is sadly a reality of Nuke Ops rounds. There are players who get taken out of the round within half an hour due to a random Nuke Ops running around, or a Nuke Ops who wanders off and gets nabbed by Security. Fourth, was there any sort of clearance, message, or anything sent to the crew beforehand saying that there were traders inbound? If not, then the reaction should be reasonable, seeing as this is how Vox are generally treated (who ARE actual traders) because they show up unannounced, at first at least. You can wave an ID around all you'd like, but without any confirmation of who you were from a group like the Odin or such, the crew would have been considering you a basic intruder. So, this is my question. Were you truly removed from the RP? You were left in the main brig area, and given access to the brig communal, which has an intercom, food, and windows to interact with the officers (which you seemingly did, due to asking to be let out near the end). You seem to have wanted Security to release you, even when they possibly found contraband items on your person (I personally didn't check, but judging from what the comms were saying, there were some interesting things in your gear).
  10. This has been a thread that I've written, erased, and thought about making, dozens upon dozens of times. This sentence has also been the exact same opening every time I typed it up too, believe it or not. Basically, let people know more about you in this thread. We know the more well-known players pretty well (or do you?) but some people never get noticed, or people just don't much about them. Maybe you'll learn something about somebody. Maybe you won't, but it's always cool to at least read what people have to say about themselves. Without further stalling, I'll kick it off so somebody isn't waiting for somebody else to. The Boring Life Story of Poo-Poo Head So, that's that. It turned out a lot longer, and more clunky that I'd intended the first twenty times I wanted to type this thread up. It also kinda looks a lot more about my life story than telling much about me, which is my bad there. I hope it tells at least a little bit more about me, at least the first few parts. Of course, I don't want this to be just about me. I'd love to see you guys tell more about yourself as well, although you don't have to nearly going into as much detail as I have (although you can).
  11. There was the pink-haired Unathi with an afro, which led to some less-than-fun stuff a good while back. I miss that. I wish people still did that.
  12. I thought everybody knew I was the true American, and in the best state as well.
  13. Nobody can surpass mine. At all. Bestowed on me by the late Sphere-senpai.
  14. While I could be wrong, I don't believe I was the one who responded to your ahelp. Seeing as I was the officer locked in the locker by the IPC, I didn't feel that it was justified to respond to the ahelp, although these may be different cases that I am thinking about. I do not know who actually responded to the ahelp regarding that, but they may.
  15. Your title is a joke about Destiny. You thought only Destiny players would figure it out. I'm onto you. But anyways, some of these can help players out overall. The thermite solution seems a bit iffy. It'd be weird to see people just running around with it in spray bottles.
  16. I noticed this was briefly touched on, but I want to make another note of it. We did use to have whitelists, where the general "yes/no" verdict came from a player's RP skill on the server. For a good while, if somebody hadn't been playing for more than a few weeks, they'd be told "get to know people more, and allow people see your RP, before trying to make a whitelist", due to a lot of new players, even then, making whitelists rather quickly. This was later changed to what we have now because, if I'm recalling correctly, there was a lot of favoritism going on. Players would +1 an app of somebody they'd played with before, not because of how their app was typed, or presented, but because they were either good friends with them OOCly, ICly, or both. There were newer players, who would work hard to get an app in, and would get denied, because nobody knew who they were. Some people who were generally just crap at RP, were getting whitelists, because people in the server liked them, OOCly. It made the server look like it was playing favorites quite a lot, and in the end, people didn't like it like that. So, here's the million dollar question. What would prevent the exact same actions from happening again, if we reverted to "you must be at least somewhat well known to get a whitelist" type of whitelists?
  17. As somebody who loves psychology probably than most people here, making a psychiatrist who does actual experiments would probably not get a lot of traction. Most players tend to ignore any psychologist that comes on-board unless they have something already in mind, which is why so little people play them. For the "best" way to make a new character, there is no "right" or "wrong" in this context. It comes down to the player, and what they've done in the past. Some players may find it easier to have a clear, laid out idea of how they want a character to be, so there is less room to mess up their personality, or ideals. Others may believe it's better to unfold their character as time goes on, letting things play out as they go along. There are pros and cons to both of these ideas. I personally have found it better to have a brainstorm of a character before jumping in, to avoid having to retcon things. That said, I don't think the point of the thread is to give people tips on just "making a new character", but more-so different types of characters, as seen in the OP. Something for people who have run out of ideas to try and take base character ideas from.
  18. Xenonauts, woot woot. Also known as the XCOM-wannabe. Cough cough. By low spec, what do you mean, exactly? Hell, people rag on the Intel graphics, but they can run some (albeit very small amount) of "higher" end games functionally.
  19. Taiga Motherfucking Aiska. and Jade. As I've said before, Taiga is without a doubt my "best girl" choice, and Jade took quite good deal of inspiration from her in general. From her personality, to her one-inch-difference in height, Jade took quite a bit from the character. I wanted to see how close I could get to an "anime tsundere in space" without making a literal "anime tsundere in space". That said, she soon become more abrasive (or was supposed to be) than Taiga. I knew how I wanted her to be, and that was rude, with a capital R. I didn't want to make a character who ranted and raved about killing people, or tried to be the "one with a smirk, a gun and a sharp tongue". Of course, she took less pronounced bits and pieces from other characters, like Rin Tohsaka. Soon, the base behavior dissolved, and she became more "Jade Jade" instead of "pieces of characters".
  20. So, basically I've got to go for a little under week. Starting tomorrow, (Sunday 06/14/2015) to Friday, (06/19/2015). It's nothing serious, but due to having to head for JCLC Eagle at Fort Pickett with my JROTC team, I'll have no access to any communication jazz (personal communication devices, of course). Just a heads up, so you don't don't organize a search party to locate my IP. Not nearly as long as some people are gone, but I thought it'd still be good to let you all know.
  21. Too late.
  22. Seeing as this is turning into a "book review" thread, I'll throw in my two cents. The "Man of War" books were nice. I can't say much for book three, as I never read it, but book one (To Honor You Call Us) and two (For Honor We Stand) were rather nice. A military sci-fi series, set between humanity, and the race known as the Krag. Set on the USS Cumberland, it follows LCDR Max Robichaux, and his crew through the pew-pews of space warfare. The audiobook is as good as the novel, so check that out too. As a note though, some explanations are rather in depth. I took a Kindle screenshot a while back, where the author explained faster-than-light travel really early on in the book, which almost took up an entire page on it's own.

    Tossin' blames

I want to address some of the things noted against Security. I've always been a fan of true equality. Okay, sure. Get rid of hostile security players. If you do that, you have to apply it to everybody else as well, with a hostile character. That also means get rid of hostile players altogether. No more Roy Wyatt, Phoebe Essel, Travis Davis, Lauren Blade. This is grossly unfair to a certain group of players if you want to change their behavior, and refuse to do so for the entire station, as I believe I stated a while back. I highly doubt that having a station full of smiling, passive characters would be fun for long. For another example, why not get rid of all the nice characters, and have the station full of scowling, edgy rude people? The fact is, it's fine to try and fix individuals, but when it comes to the whole departments or even the station as a whole, it gets kinda hard to say "play this exact way". This adds to the problem, not fixes it. It puts characters, security and non-security, on edge, when some random person is just running around with weapons, as a non-security member. Security gear is pretty balanced, compared to what some antag items can do. They shouldn't be so weak that people can just run away. That said, security has been a lot less communicative than what it once was. There have been a good amount of times, where officers dump a prisoner into the brig with a random amount of time, and haven't told anybody else about it. It leads to people screaming at each other, both in the Security comms, and general, about some random person in the brig. People's records are being set less and less, and it becomes a problem for the entire team. This needs to be fixed, and it's not a character-changing ordeal. Players just need to talk to each other more, instead of being silent. At the very least, tell somebody their charges. Don't just throw them in a brig, and leave. Heads of Security players are also being a hit-and-miss, it seems. There are a few that are good, and the rest either don't really know what to do, don't communicate with the team much, or have their main goal set to winning.
  24. Techno was given a warning on this behavior. I can't speak for the rest of the round, as I wasn't active until the rear end. The player stated that they feared being arrested, and believed this was the only way to avoid being captured. I raised the point of non-lethal methods, but I cannot recall the response Techno sent me. As I told the player, sometimes being arrested can make the round more enjoyable for both of the parties involved.
  25. Instead of clogging up the official forums with the same-old-same-old threads, I thought it'd be neat to have a GW2 thread for Aurora. Here, people can find other users on Aurora, who also play GW2, without having to dig too deep to find them. For me personally, I have a level 63 Guardian, who I think has a great color combo on. So, go ahead and get some chatter going on, about one of the great MMOs.
