dude i was role playing a fuck ton that entire round in a meaningful way. safi saved several crew members and a nuke ops, she was trying to rescue everyone cause she cares about the crew and emergency. this falls into the same exact complaint as before which was removed cause the round was pretty much over. which is whats happened here. I was burnt out by the end of the round as i was dealing with the ops almost up until the last moment. the round was over bro people started playing games and relaxing, chill out. several crew went to gossiping and playing word games not caring about the emergency. *edit* you act like i was doing this the entire round. I wasn't, i said it literally at the last 5 mins of the round when we where all just siting around waiting for the bomb to go and people already started joking.

Sierra's feedback thread, since everyone else is doing it
the_furry replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Character Stories
so heres some thought out criticism i have about your characters. consider these suggestions if you wana make your characters cooler. Ziva Mo'Taki she should date travis Rasine Ha'kim she should not claw travis, and date travis. Katana Silvers she should get life like anatomy then date travis. Miraj Zi'Ad she should be younger and date travis. -
punishments for the sake of punishment is kind of pointless. banning people is for a simple thing to remove problem players. regardless of how many chances the players had before if the player is no longer actually a problem then why not bring him back? the issue is determining if the player is still actually going to be a problem or not. in this case, I've never seen a player so dedicated to make a YouTube video to apologize. I would truly be supersized if he is still a problem player. since he's most likely not, why not bring him back? the amount of trials he's had is irreverent, the relevant question is if he will contribute good RP to this server now.

Fortport's Tajara Application
the_furry replied to Fortport's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It was my answer to that question in the application. Majith, in my mind, is a very determined individual. She's the type of person who organizes her things and plans everything that she does, even if it's a mundane task. Why, though? Why must she be so meticulous? I think she has a lot of pride in herself, that's my short answer. She's risen above the stereotype that, I think, exists in-character and out-of-character. People often make jabs at the species about how they're primitive or etc. I can perfectly picture humans being xenophobic towards the species. Majith might've been deeply bothered by it, but I haven't found out /why/. Was she harassed? Did people tell her she was never going to get anywhere in life? Is she just that sort of person who strives to do something with herself? I'll sort it out, but that's more or less my thoughts. I want her to be passionate still, even in her thirties. I do like how there's some more ambiguous motivations here, it actually makes the character more realistic. not everyone needs a major event or primary motivator in their life. in fact most people don't have said event, most people are average joe's that want to succeed and some try harder than others. I kind of get that feel out of this one and i think it's refreshing. also I've had really good experiences with this player, always pretty fair in security and Robbie Calhoun in the holodeck was just fun. he has my +1 -
I support this, jboy has a great since of humor and is fun to play around with +1

i was gona post on this but i see its already approved. well just to throw in. he played genetics and didn't chucklefuck...that was amazing. seriously though, probably some of the best genetic rp i've seen in a while, was fun -
I’m sorry, you don’t get to shut someone up in an open discussion just because you don’t like their arguments and have nothing constructive to say. There’s a huge difference between having a discord and shit posting. Only one shit posting here is you and chaz. I’ve only added or rebutted the conversation at hand, not once did I bring up taj as a thing, or make any comments about any select individual. Your complaint has come down to you don’t like how vocal I am about the misperception people attribute to genetics. Literally you just want me to shut up because you don’t like someone challenging your position. I’m sorry, this is an open discussion for a reason, if you don’t like it you can choose not to participate. But you don’t get to just shut me up. Now let’s break down what you’re saying, the one little part you did add to the conversation. Actually this conversation started with the opposition saying how absurd it is for scientists to self-test because in real life it would never happen (which is untrue it’s happened throughout history, but still). So I’m taking a chapter from the opposition’s book on this. Your trying to have it both ways, the opposition (which includes you) says real life would never allow it to happen, then when I use real life as an example your saying “oh it’s just real life this is a game”. You’re trying to uphold a situation in which the same grounds for an argument are true for you but not true for me, that’s called a double standard bro.
-
Lel what? No one’s brought up anything taj or cat related other than you. I’ve been talking about the perception of genetics and whether that perception is accurate or not and rebutted skulls comments that “stereotypes tend to be grounded in truth”. Now...if you want me to start defending taj and comparing it to the holocaust I’d be happy to oblige. But that would be irrelevant to this conversation and not a topic that I brought here. Are you sure you want to bring cats up here? XD

that's some of the poorest reasoning i've seen. "everyone hates it so it must be true"? theirs a lot of factors that go into stereotypes and in fact stereotypes actually tend to stem from fallacious things; or are you gona tell me there's actually some truth to the stereotype that Asians have an inability to drive? what effects stereotypes more than truth? mob mentality, generalized dislike for a group, group bias, which is displayed with prevalence here. all of these things have zero to do with whether the stereotype is true or not but weigh in heavily to creating the stereotype. i can tell you, in my time of playing when theres actually a geneticist on the chances of them fucking around is far less then chemists, security, and janitors, who seem to fuck around on more than a daily basis. which is why im incline to believe that this stereotype stems from the fallacious roots of mod mentality and group bias rather than any actual truth.

I’m curious to know what the actual level of fuckery that comes out of genetics compared to other departments. Sure it happens but I get the feeling that it happens far less then you guys let on and most of this complaining is just hipped up. If that’s the case then it’s your mentality that needs to change not genetics itself cause there are lots of people that actually enjoy genetics. Like I see more fuckery from engineering, Chaplins, and chemists, on a regular basis then I see coming from genetics. So really, on a daily basis, how many times do you have to arrest the geneticist cause of fuckery?

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner! This question is exactly why Baystation removed genetics from their code. A little knowledge of SS13 history will have you find that genetics is a TG station creation. TG's mentality is a lot different from Bay's and from our own. The original purpose of genetics was to give people cool superpowers to fuck around with and to, to use our terms, chucklefuck with. But that sort of play wasn't an issue there. It is here, though. Id also like to add, theres plenty of things to do if everyone stops trying to limit every little thing there is in genetics. if they are fucking around arrest them. otherwise let them explore powers. that is a major thing they could do but no one here seems to be willing to let that happen.
-
my suggestion is to expand it or remove it. as is i try my best to rp with it. I do share the powers at any chance i get. been makeing security soldiers lately thats been lots of fun XD. I would like to see it expanded rather than just scrapped.
-
Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner! Let's face it: genetics is only there for the cool powers. It has no utility beyond generating super soldiers, and even then very few geneticists think about others after getting TK/X-ray. This is kind of why I wanted to replace it with biology: hopefully something with greater utility and depth coded into it. when ever i try sharing it i get eather everyone saying they dont want it. or the heads just up and denying it. I think out of all the times if jumped through the hoops to allow other departments to get the powers (i've tried a good 10 times) i've only had people take the powers once. so no, its not that we don't think of anyone else. I get tired of having all the paper work signed just for everyone to say screw off cause they don't like genetics.

self testing is bad scientific practice...unless your in a society that values self experience where it's expected for the person to personally know what the participant is going through. hmm...say...that...sounds like a lore solution. imagine that. the current western para-dime is that self testing and self experience is a bad idea. but that is only a recent development within what the last 400 years and not accepted universally. It can easily be argued that you would only want a scientist to test on you if they tested it themselves depending on the cultural values we have. we already do this with police forces, many police forces have to undergo tasers and pepper spray (self testing) so they know the experience of the tool. saying this it suddenly can make more sense if we change the lore. so yes..this is a lore issue. lore can pretty much explain anything we want to design the sort of universe we want, we just have to choose what we want. *edit* im not saying we should adopt this idea as lore, but I am saying genetic selftesting and safety can easily be explained by changing the lore in some degree. which is what you are denying.
-
so, other then giving powers to a motionless body then staring at a wall the entire shift...what is there to do with genetics? (and lets not pretend cloning is a fulltime job shall we). your saying if we're lucky there will be a head to sign off powers; luckier still cause that head needs to be willing to sign off on this. why is it so detrimental to let the geneticists give themselves powers to explore(they are already limited from leaving the lab with powers as it is). if he starts abusing it arrest him. we do that with literally every other department in the game. there is ways to explain it ICly if we choose to let it be. that is, we can always adjust the lore to explain how it's actually considered safe to give yourself dose of radiation. so stop pretending it's impossibly absurd, it would only be a minor change to lore and it can be made completely reasonable. it's merely our choice to deny the lore suggestion or not, but it doesn't invalidate it because this is a universe that we all get to choose how it works. let the player have fun until he starts interfering with the enjoyment of other players then arrest him. or is this lab to be the sit and stare at the wall lab?
-
You're going to sit here and tell me it's not Bruce Banner levels of radiation when there's literally a Hulk mutation. your going to sit there and tell me it's not ok when we literally have a medicine that's designed to treat Bruce banner levels of radiation in seconds? also just for reference as magnificent said, the hulk had the power to contend with superman. bare in mind superman can literally pull a chain of planets in a solarsystem...yeah don't see that happening with the 'hulk' we have. edit bruce banner is known to hold 150billion tons (it was a mountain)...so yeah...no not brucebanners hulk or probably not his levels of radiation.

Real talk here, would this count as neglect of duty? Can testing on assistants be the new SOP for science? From what I understand, the big problem with genetics testing is that protohumans can't tell you how they feel, but if you could test on assistants then they can tell you. Also I want to test the effects of laser cannons on undergraduate researchers. also also...are you really advocating for giving random (potentially bald) assistants powers, but geneticists themselves can't get them? how is this a good idea XD. I can see it now, safi gives every assistant on the server TK then explain that's the new sop so she shouldn't get into trouble. How bout we keep it as self-testing is ok and if they abuse it just arrest them. That way your only dealing with one person with powers. if they give it to anyone else without permission they get arrested, if they abuse it they get arrested. that way a geneticist can have what fun they can without being arrested while peace is still maintained by security.
-
from what I've been told by a good 10 people is self testing for geneticists is allowed. it's assumed as a geneticist whos job it is to find powers that you've signed a waver before stepping foot on the station. I mean the hell are we supposted to do if we can't even touch genetics with out there being some kind of head on board that would allow it? we can't pretend cloning is a full time job, the point of the job is to find and experiment with powers. soooo self-testing for the geneticist is kind of heavily implied.
-
also are we saying selftesting is no longer allowed? i thought for genetics it was assumed that the geneticist signed a waiver before even being employed.

the hate for genetics is strong in this one

I’m satisfied with this resolution. I do have two questions concerning the use of telekinesis in game. I want to make sure I’m following the rules to avoid any sort of job ban in the future. One, are we just not allowed to hit people with lockers unless it’s a life or death situation? I never really considered tk to be on the same level as a revolver that has lethal consequences for misuse. Maybe more like the annoyance of a flash. So I always took it as if someones harassing you to a great extent its ok to use telekinesis. Is this not the case? If it’s not I can tell you it’s not outlined in any rules and it really should be as at first glance the use of telekinesis doesn’t appear to be something that should be only used in life and death situations or compared to the seriousness of a revolver. At first glance TK appears to be something that can be safely used to harass someone back that is harassing you, be it a childish thing to do yes, but I always thought it was allowable (with the risk of suffering in game consequences like arrest or demotion, but not ooc jobban). Again, along the same lines of an officer flashing someone that’s causing harassment or an engineer making makeshift restraints, or simply pushing someone over that’s pushed you over, I always considered TK to be as serious as that. If I’m wrong I’d need to know. Two, this is in relation to the first question, can I get an outline of what TK can actually be used for? I mean aside from moving a box from one side of the room to another, it appears that you’re saying TK is only to be used in antag situations and nothing else. Even someone is harassing you to a great extent am I not allowed to use TK to try and push them back or impede them in anyway? I understand just using TK to slam lockers into random people is easily a version of harassment and misuse, but that’s not what the situation here is. I understand I’m not getting a warning now but I want to know what is considered an allowable usage of TK to avoid future warnings. -

o.0 what the fucking fuck and fuck? Can I just make up things to make people look bad and post it in a complaint too? Do i even need to defend this? like really where did this come from? yes i get powers alot, do i ever use them or even touch lockers anymore? rarely, and when im touching lockers it's normally at the end of the round and i literally just pull it (not useing tk) into the shuttle. so I've no idea where this whole i do it every shift bullshit is coming from. and what's this about an IA and taking pictures of naked people? like, again can i just say random shit that's never actually been done cause that's pretty much what your entire post is. I don't think i've ever taken a naked picture of someone. soooo...what...or are you just being loud hoping the admins will listen to your irrelevant untrue rant of bullshit? -

I do want to keep it in perspective, I only hit the engineer twice after they came back several times to observe the water tanks. She would walk away and about five mins later come back and stand in the matinance hall watching the tanks till I moved the tanks. The janitor cart was in retaliation of the player coming in without a word splashing me with water and pushing me onto the floor. If the engineer was every truly traped then that was an honest mistake and it wouldn’t have lasted long. I think that’s exactly what’s going on here. I mean if this is gona be a thing can I submit a counter complaint about the janitor coming in and flooring me with no Rp then stealing my ID to break into a lab? Should I take the time to write up that ooc complaint? (why couldn’t this have been handled by DO’s do they even exsist? -

Is actually meant to imply that most of them are probably jobbanned. Of course I will confirm this before a decision is passed. are you not listening? I've already detailed the use of Tk and it was not being used merely at the expense of others. as you insist on putting it. hell it was hardly being used at all. If your job banning anyone that uses the fucking power why do you have it in there in the first place? -

the_furry replied to Vanagandr's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Well this should settle it then, if we go with skulls perspective then I should not be issued any warning or job ban, as no geneticist has been giving a warning for what I was doing. Bear in mind we’re not talking about hulking out or spamming tk to endless levels of annoyance at the expense of others. I’ve already detailed the exact use of TK I did and it is some of the most basic thing you can do with TK. If we go with Frances perspective, again I should not be given any warning. As the intent was to produce roleplay with an engineer with TK, as she said geneticists are allowed to have some fun. If you really want to give me a warning then you’re better off simply removing TK from genetics all together or stating in the rules that TK is not to be used in game since at this point if I receive a warning for merely doing minor actions with it; there would be nothing a geneticist can do with TK safely without getting some kind of reprimand.
